That post by WoTC was totally spin.

I don't have either issue, Dragon or Dungeon. As a big fan of undead creatures, what in particular did Mr. Baur do for ghouls? And is this "open design" project linked in some way...?

I always enjoyed Strike Force by Aaron Allston for the Champions RPG. It's a great look at one group's superhero campaign and one of the most interesting part is the timeline, because you can see where various ideas were unleashed on the campaign and why. Also, Warhammer Armies: Skaven. I've never liked orcs in a D&D campaign, but hordes of rat creatures, including their own chem warfare troops? Perfect!

Excellent! I love it when common sense wins out...

Okay, as the scout in question, I can understand the answer to my dilemma. The skirmish ability is intended to simulate the ability to "hit and run" and that doesn't fit in with attacking something physically attached to you. I have no problem with that. Common sense. Thus the "tongue in cheek" request. Can't hurt to try.

But, in the case of the roper grappeling, I think I would have put up an stronger argument. To be "grappled", to me, implies being impaired in some way (arms trapped, tentacle around the neck). If you're using a system that determines the wizard is grappled around the ankle, I so would have allowed and/or fought for a spell to be cast.

One of the Dragon magazines, #334, has an article on alcohol in D&D...

I always loved Al Qadim! I loved the setting, the flavor, the atmosphere, the classes. Just playing in a 1001 Arabian Nights setting made it fun!

I never played Dark Sun but I liked to read the modules, rules, and novels...

I like all of the current comics, although I wouldn't be hurt if Nodwick dropped off. Zogonia, Order of the Stick, and Dork Tower are favorites...

You people are funny! You sound like Trekkies! I won't watch Voyager because everyone KNOWS that Deep Space Nine is true Star Trek....

People, the beauty of the system is that you can always pick and choose what YOU want for YOUR game! You want Bigby to walk Faerun? Do it! You want Warforged to walk around Greyhawk, do it! It's all up to you what you want your game to look like. Personally, I despise orcs. They don't occupy a place in my universe. Instead I have added Skaven, from another company's product line. It's my game.

AS far as WotC and whether or not they're "evil" for publishing this or producing that, as some posters have mentioned, let it go. Rightly noted, they are a business. They'll produce whatever sells. Their minis sell, because, guess what? There's a type of gamer out there who doesn't want to (Insert GASP here) play RPGs, but happen to like collectible mini games.

If you want them to produce something particular, you live in the age of the internet. Get together a campaign to have 1000 gamers send them letters requesting something.

As for them publishing too much or not the right stuff, I began gaming in 1980. I remember times in the past 25 years when the pickings were slim to non-existent. I'm thankful that WotC seems to feel there is enough business to want to produce a ton of product. Again, I'll buy what I like and ignore the rest.

It's my game.

Thanks for the offer DarkWolf, I really do appreciate it, but I actually managed to snag one off EBay for a great price a couple of days ago. I'm just flabbergasted at the price set by these booksellers and hadn't seen other examples of game related fiction selling for these (extremely high) prices. I'll keep my eye open for the LO5R novel you mention!

My apologies if this is not the appropriate place for this question, but I have to ask... what the heck is the deal with the Realms of the Deep anthology?!?

I read the original Threat from the Sea series (one of my all time favorites) but never picked up the anthology. I collect most of the D&D fiction and I positively haunt used bookstores. You can find almost all of the D&D fiction in paperback for $1 - $10. Except this one.

I never picked it up when I have seen it in the past (my mistake!), but now that I'm looking for it (I read an interesting synopsis of some of the stories), I'm seeing prices of $25-$75! This is from EBay Stores and ABEBooks. For a paperback less than six years old! An anthology, which are usually the worst sellers! What's up? Does anyone have any insight as to why this one book, out of all the D&D fiction books, is so highly valued by used bookdealers?
