The Exchange 4/5

The Time has come for me to move on from VC Idaho and Let the younger Generation take over. I will be leaving Idaho in the very Capable Hands of Mark in Twin Falls as VC and Sarah in Boise as VL. he has been super active in the region as well as helping out the Salt lake folks as Much as possible. he will take Idaho new and Better places with PFS and serve Mike well in the Area. Sarah will serve him as a great organizer and committed VO.

this is not farewell though, I may not be a VC, I will remain very active in PFS Using my frequent trips to Japan to try and generate interest there. working with the USO to take PFS to our men and women serving us, and starting to coordinate more games on Roll20. I plan on attending conventions as well. depending on my travel schedule. I am really looking forward to a chance to do a side trip to Australia for some down under style PFS. Also i think Dragon CON in Atlanta may be in my future this year if Gen Con falls through.

It has been a great 2 years and I have made some great friends amongst the community and look forward to being a player/gm at many of your tables in the future.

The Exchange 4/5

I am visiting the great City of Tokyo Japan in March. and I am wondering if there are any PFS players in the area whom i could visit while there. Maybe even run a game if enough players are in the city. as a venture captain I would be glad to run the new special or any other scenario requested. I would just need a host home or store to run the game in.

Also if anyone knows of stores who sell pathfinder in the Tokyo region I would love to visit the store(s) while over there.

If you have any information for me you can contact me at clarence.garrett3@gmail.com. or message me here. I look forward to meeting any players in the Tokyo area.

Love the new seasons chronicle sheets. the changes to faction points makes it a lot easier to explain to new players.

I would like to suggest that Paizo make available a blank PDF Form of the new sheet to allow us to use the new form for season 0 thru 2 scenarios. we can easily type or cut and paste in the information from the old chronicle sheets to the new ones if we had the form.

The Exchange 4/5

Already posted on a thread in the rules section. But I want to know how it is being handled in society.

The monk weapons listed in the a PG state in their description that monks are proficient with them adding them to the monk weapon proficiencies. However the monk weapons in the UC do not state whether they are covered under the monks weapon proficiency or if they require the spending of feats to add the proficiency.

In Boise I have a new player using the three sectioned staff on his level one monk out of the UC weapons list. It is a double monk weapon with specials and 1d10 damage. Is this legal without a martial and exotic weapon proficiency?

do you need faction missions outlined in the proposal? and if you do do you need the new factions included for the new season? or would you just like the current factions for now?

ok got my schedule for the two tables i am running at paizo con. I am so excited.

but then it hit me like a two ton Black dragon. i am a noob! time to ask some advice of my illustrious elders in the society.

So my questions are as follows:

one of the two scenarios I am running is slotted for release in June. and one is out already. I plan on purchasing map packs/flip mats for the one out already as i have downloaded it and am beginning to prepare for it. Will map packs be available for me, or will i need to budget to buy map packs at the con for the new scenario? no way i am allowing my first paizo con to be a demonstration of my lack of kindergarten artistic ability via attempting to draw the maps.

how soon before the session will I receive the yet unreleased scenario?

what are some other things I should look into adding to my arsenal of materials to make the sessions run smooth. (got all the rule books i need to have and a few of the additional resources (rule books)already.)

Mark Moreland wrote:

Since the beginning of season zero, we established several guidelines for distribution of encounter CR difficulties, and also set a maximum CR for each subtier.

Part of the conversion process is bringing scenarios from the early days in line with these new design parameters. The goal is, of course, to do so without significantly altering the feel of a given adventure, but a party of level 1 PCs shouldn't be facing a CR 5 encounter.

That said, when you run the adventure, you can alter the flavor of any of the encounters to better emulate the thematic elements that changed as a result of the mechanical changes if you think it'll make a better play experience for your players.

I am wondering if this applies to encounters that are too easy/hard based on table make up. my current game store group is pretty balanced. barbarian, rogue, cleric, wizard, ranger. so far the CL of encounters have been appropriate, however combat goes quickly if it is one or two BBEG's only in larger scale combats like the opening scene of Murder on the throaty mermaid, does the combat have any level of difficulty for them.

Are you saying in the above that as gm I can tweek the encounters to make the mission more memorable. and by tweek i do not mean rewrite the encounter. but maybe I can adjust ac and hit points to make the fight last a little longer, or add a couple more of said creatures in a multiple creature encounter?

this would make some scenes a little more memorable for my party. their last round of comments was summarized as Great RP, awesome story, weak combat scenes.

The Exchange 4/5

Just had a game the other day...

Murder on throaty mermaid:
During the encounter with Snig the player offered to get Snig a "date" with one of the Female NPC's. the player then said with the straightest of faces and tone "and she likes it rough so it is ok to scratch and bite her all you want!" he was under the impression that she was the guilty party.

the table had to take 5 minutes just to get over the laughter.

I would like to hear some of your funny one liners as well.

****please use spoiler tags****

I am looking for any advice from my Sempai on running Murder on the throaty mermaid. I have read and re read it many times. ideas i am contemplating in spoiler.

Ideas i have come up with:
1) I am putting the Clues for each NPC on 3x5 cards organized by the name of the murderer. this way when i pick the murderer i do not have to sort through pages of text figuring out who says what because he/she did it.

2) I think i ma going to have the characters make a perception, detect motives, bluff and Diplomacy check before each interview. then modify their results based upon RP throughout the encounter as needed. (same for each NPC's opposing roll's) this way they do not know when they stumbled on something or not because i make them roll.

3) the storm is optional depending on time. how many of you have had to skip it? the storm seets up the last combat and gives the NPC's a slight advantage. without the storm I see Marzack and his ally getting thier butts handed to them quickly by a prepared party. (especially if the casters have not used all their spells that day on the rust monster or Shira Acidaxe.

4) Shira Acid axe is almost to me a forgone conclusion of ending in combat. Have any of your players beaten her without combat? how did that happen. the way i read the encounter almost anything the party does will piss her off and end in combat. I am looking for ways to allow players to avoid combat creatively. I Guess I am looking for a clearer definition of her point of no return where she will get pissed and attack the party.

I am really looking forward to running this. my table is at 5 rite now. so i am not to worried about player kills from the combat or said combat taking too long (dice god's willing). So I am more looking for ways to improve the experience. I have two people totally new to Pathfinder society play. and 3 returning from my first event. as a new GM i feel i may have taken a challenging Scenario. but I LOVE RP and this has a plethora of RP. I am really excited to run it. I just want to run it well and thus the asking for help from my Sempai.

The Exchange 4/5

when reporting a session i gm. and i am getting gm credit for my character. do i report it for my character? or just fill out and attach the chronicle to the character sheet?

The Exchange 4/5

ok i have read on several other threads some stuff that as a coordinator for an event, raises a few questions when setting up multiple tables over several sessions. hope this is the correct area to ask these...

1) when planning the sessions i have noticed that some cons have a list different scenarios at each session. is this one scenario per table or a list of available scenarios in that slot?

2) Should I let players preregister for scenarios in each slot? or should i just have them sign up for a slot and then place them tables with scenarios they have not played in to make legal tables?

3) If it is one scenario per table in the slot. do you make empty tables convert scenarios if more than 6 players sign up for a scenario at another table? I know this seems self explanatory but this would prevent walk in players from sitting at that other scenario's table that was advertised and available prior to the change.

thank you in advance for input. I have a convention I am organizing PFS for in August. and want it to be a great first time PFS event at the convention. I will probably add more question's to this thread over the next couple of months as they arise. I am relying heavily on the experience of this community for my first convention. so again thank you in advance. (BTW i will post the Convention dates soon. but I understand it conflicts with the almighty GenCon. you are still welcome to come to ours though. it is a lot cheaper :) )

The Exchange 4/5

Am i correct in assuming that all these only offer 1 PA. have not downloaded any yet. and if it is true i may limit the number i do run so my players are not gimped on PA.

The Exchange 4/5

ok under the rules i know that loot, magical or otherwise, is purchased on the chronicle sheet. Allowing each player the ability to purchase each item found.

what about items they wish to sell? does every player have the option to sell each item found through the course of the adventure?
example say the players find a non magical piece of jewelry after an encounter worth 500 gp. does every player get to sell that on the chronicle for an extra 250 gp, or does only the one who walks away with it after discovery get to sell it?

my inclination is to allow each player to sell the item (to prevent infighting over loot) or buy it if they want to keep it. but i wanted a clarification on this. i reread the guide and did not see anything that would sway me one way or other. of course this does not mean it is not in there i just did not find it.

also the players wanted to sell the magic items found that they did not want to buy. I said no to this. I told them that all magic items they do not purchase are turned into the Society. that they are in essence buying the loot from the pathfinder society. was that a correct?

The Exchange 4/5

Ran my first event yesterday in Store, at magic Dragon games Boise Idaho. It was a great event. turnout was only 4 due to a couple people having to drop out for emergencies. but the four that played enjoyed themselves and are all coming for my next event. we had two experienced gamers new to society rules and play, one member who had not played in a session yet but had a firm grasp on the rules and one player who had not played since 2nd edition. all finished the scenario, with plenty of role play.

as a gm my first time was educational. i now have a better idea of what i need to prepare for to make the sessions run smoother. If you are in the Boise area or may be making a trip to Boise, check the events for my store games or message me. I have a couple other stores wanting me to run events in the area so it may end up being three or more a month in the Boise area.

OK, the question of maps and flip mats was brought up elsewhere and answered as far as it went. However, when submitting scenarios, do you prefer original map artwork? and if so what level of artwork do you require? or do you prefer we use existing flip mats?

I do plan on eventually writing scenarios after I get a year of Gm'ing PFS scenarios under my belt. So as I start noting ideas in my journal, I would like to know how to prepare maps for the encounters I write.

Also, I would inquire as to whether we are free to write scenarios taking pathfinders out of the inner sea area,to exotic areas such as The Crown of the World and Tian Xia? or do you prefer we keep the PFS scenarios close to home?

The Exchange 4/5

This August, I intend to run the Most fantabulous PFS event ever seen in Southern Idaho!

Disclaimer: as far as i know it will be the first such event so I will succeed!

And on that Note I need help. in the form of players and GM's flocking to the Gem State to participate. Venture Captains and other really cool and nifty titled people are especially welcome, and may just get royal treatment. (free Twinkies and backrubs by exotic southern Idaho masseuses are being discussed)

Convention information at Fandemonium website

Event coordinator may be reached at raylyynsedai@gmail.com for planning and other information prior to an official schedule release. Venture Captains and Paizo officials please drop me a line if you are interested in attending. as joked about above, but with a serious intent, I will welcome you and may provide incentives for attending (like help organizing retail space, sponsoring you in a panel discussion, paying for your 3 day pass(if you promise to gm some)etc.

At this time, due to the small size of the convention and the fact that it is not just a game convention, I am setting up only 3 game sessions. one each day; Friday, Saturday and Sunday. so that attendees may have ample time to enjoy other Convention fun and chaos. the convention actually has an open game room. (read confiscate an open table and go to town in whatever game you want to run) so there may be more games run outside the official sessions. also the Sunday session will be run in the first slot so that travelers may still get out of our Mega Sized Boise Airport to make connections in Hub cities if they want to fly out Sunday.

The Exchange 4/5

ok i got a question i could not find a definitive answer for. I know item creation feats etc. are not allowed. so how does this effect a wizards ability to enchant his bound object i.e. a bound wand or weapon?

The Exchange 4/5

This was discussed briefly in another thread of mine. Instead of bumping the old thread i thought i would report it in its own thread.

I created an event #4764 for the Boise area. I have checked, rechecked and re re checked the information on the form it is all correct. yet when i search for an event in my area. it does not show up. nor does it show on the calendar of events.

I would like my event to be search-able asap. can some one help me get this fixed please.

The Exchange 4/5

One week left to sign up. still have room on the afternoon table, and the evening table is wide open. If you have played this scenario, still stop in. support the players I have showing up. almost all of them are new to the society!

The Exchange 4/5

I am new gm/coordinator who has successfully talked a local store into hosting my events. the owner nicely asked if Paizo offered any type of support to the stores regularly hosting events. and i said i would ask here.

so consider it asked. also who is the regional coordinator for Idaho?

The Exchange 4/5

just joined. starting some store events in Boise. I was just wondering if any other GM's out there close by be willing to help out if i get enough players for multiple tables sessions?

also on a similar note. any suggestions on where to start running scenarios time line wise. I know the PDF said #2-01, but it's year three now correct? or soon will be? any help will be much appreciated.
