Experienced group in Fall River,MA with a steady DM looking for additional players. Our main game is a Pathfinder home brew, very character and story driven. Most adventures are based on PC backstories or goals. Game is on Sat Night, 4-around 10 or 11. looking to fill some spots. Message me if interested. Looking for people who can make a majority of the games, not casual attendees.
So here is a scenario. Channel energy. Don't have selective channeling. Enemies all have spell resistance. Allies don't. Can I choose to fail a spell penetration roll, to heal just my allies?
Looking at these rule, I can't see how there are any addicts. If you get addicted to a drug that is higher then minor addiction, the user can't heal the damage from the drug, will need to keep take doses to function and each dose does more ability damage. How can an average commoner get addicted to any medium or major drug without being dead in a few days.
One of my players is looking at creating a mercenary company using the downtime rules. He is currently in a lawful realm, and I figure that he will need permission to establish a group of armed men. So, he will need to buy a mercenary company charter, which will basically give him some legal protection and the locals won't think he is raising an army.
I usually don't complain about archetypes and power levels, but I am having trouble with this one, and hoping I'm missing something. The mindblade cast psychic spells. That means that the components are now emotion and thought. Thought spells now suffer a -10 to concentration rolls. I assume this applies to casting defensively. You can take a move action to negate the penalty. So, A magus in combat (Where he should be) has to cast defensively with a -10 penalty or take a move action, which means no spell combat? I am ok with taking some penalties for flavor, but isn't this just a bit too much. I can't imagine anyone playing this.
I have a question about running an adventure path for PFS. I recently ran Mummy's Mask book 1. Is says that these are treated as modules, and provide 4 PP and 3 xp. When I entered it in the tracker here on the website though, it only gave me, as the GM, 2 PP. Is that an error or am I missing something? There is no option to edit it manually.
Does anyone know of any resources for a player handout Boon? I am looking for something that I can print out to represent a non-item/money reward. (Like a +2 to cha checks with a certain organization). I could always just type something up, but was wondering if anyone had seen anything out there that would probably be more artistic then I could come up with. Index card size would be nice, but anything is better then free handing it.
I thought there was a thread on this before but couldn't find it. MY group is playing around with the concepts of furycrafting found in Butcher's Codex Alera Series. This is my first draft of the Metalcrafter. Will be appreciative of some feedback.
Couple of notes.. The 14th level ability of metal fury is up in the air, and may be part of the changes to help damage.
I'm a bit new to this. I started an adventure path sub with Half Dead City. Things were good until late last week, when my march and April orders were showing combined. I herd that happens, and it should sort out. Now I seem to be missing any order for The Half Dead City, and my sidecart is now added to my April order (With mummy mask book 2) rather than with march where I was expecting it.
So here is my situation. I have an orc horde (Colossal) going about destroying everything in its path. The PC are gathering armies to fight it. I thought this would be cool to try out the new rules. However, looking at them, after the PC gather the armies, because they are going to be made up of smaller armies of all different races, even thought they outnumber the orcs, they are going to get slaughtered. This is because you can not combine armies that are different. The smaller armies are not going to be able to hurt the horde, and the horde will be wiping them out one at a time, even if they are working together. Thoughts?
I am also not going to run Wake after broken Moon as I feel it dosen't fit the theme well, nor are my players the type to enjoy that type of horror. Instead I will have the dark rider trading the effigy for something found in a recently discovered osirion pyramid that has been discovered in the region. (Hey if Mexico can have em, why not Ustalav). I am putting together a list of classic mummy idea that I can use to build it out. I like how the path has used some classic tropes so far and want to keep on the theme. I will put the list here, but please add to it, if you have any more ideas. Whether it is a cool creature, an event, a plot, anything. The more I can choose from to build, the better it will be. Thanks for any help all. 1. Bookish female professor, wearing osirion amulet given to her by her professor father. Actually a member of the Palantine Eye
Do we have any access experts in the house? I have built a database based on the gamemastery guide for keeping track of settlements, and calculating the modifiers, but want to take it up a notch and add some advanced features. Looking for someone with access skills to help lead me in the right direction.
ok, here is the situation. Your opponent readies to cast invis if you cast magic missile. You begin to cast. He makes his Spell Check. He casts invis. It goes before the action it interrupts, so it goes before your casting. Can you then cast another spell or choose a different target? My thinking. Yes, you can change any part of your action you have not performed yet. (EX if you moved, and cast the spell, the action interrupts your spell, so you can not go back and change the move.)
Pulling this from another Thread about taking 10 and taking 20, sorry to Nosig that he may not see it to comment himself. Want to hear other people's opinions nosig wrote:
Why would people do this? All this does is make a judge waste time when he should be setting up, marks you as the type of player who is going to get in his face if he rules something against what he wrote, and add another level of frustration to a guy who is already taking time out of his playing to run a game for you. How about ....
Why is it so difficult to get a ruling and move on. I have been on both sides of the table at cons, and have found most of the time when running, I am handed an adventure a few mins before the game. Barely have time to set up at a table with way more players than should be there. I don't know any of them, so I don't know when they are being serious, sarcastic, frustrated, or what, and I just have to go by what I can tell from thier responses/actions. I can tell you for a fact that somone handing me a questionaire to help them decide which rules I follow and which I get wrong is going to tick me off. Now as a player, I have played in many games that stink. (The games where the DM does his best to kill everyone, since it's not his "real" game. The DM that anything you say is in game, so if you say "stick me with a fork" you just stabbed yourself with a fork, take damage. Yes for real). I learned that at cons the person responsible for my enjoyment is ME. I can either get mad at everything the dm does differently, or I can ignore that, and have fun playing and doing what I can. It's one game with strangers. Make the best out of it. Also if the DM does that bad of a job, you CAN't have fun. (I have had them). Don't make an issue of it. Do the best you can, and next slot, go on to something else. Next time, make sure you don't go to that dm's table. Anyone who has been to a con has been at the group where one guy is arguing or "explaining" the rules. Everything stops, or the DM ignores him and he starts bugging everyone around him or makes a scene. Or he starts with the "Can I cast spells? Is that ok at your table. I just want to check before I try" etc. Don't be that guy.
Hope this is the right forum. Can anyone recommend some adventures that were written so they could be dropped into any campaign. I know a lot of adventures can be modified to fit home campaigns, but I am looking for some that have been intentionally designed this way. An example is "black & white" from 0one games. I have my own home brew and am looking for a supply of adventures, that I can use in a pinch (if something comes up and I don't have time to prepare) with as little changing as possible, so the more generic the setting the better. Also, they have to be Pathfinder compatible but from any 3pp is fine. Thanks.
Hey all, let's share some fantasy movies that have you thinking of gaming while/after you watch them. I will put my list below. I have heard some terrible things about some of them, but I love them all, even today. Beastmaster (the first)
So here is one to ponder. my PC have found a monkey in their travels. a little spider monkey, who I threw in for some comic relief. Said monkey has been hanging around with the fighter and ranger, cause they give him food, and he likes the sound of laughing, so he does things that makes the party laugh. (or tries, in his limited way). Now the ranger turned 4th level and want to take the monkey as an animal companion. Even though it is not on the list, the rest of the players say "let him do it" so I do. Now, the ranger wants to put the ability bump up for the monkey in his int. Make him a tiny bow, and get him the martial weapon prof in bows. Add in the rangers fav enemy is humans, and he has turned the monkey into a little killer (as in role, not ability). Well, here is the thing. Now that the monkey is intelligent, and was really based around making people laugh, I think he may not like being a human hunter. Is it appropriate for an animal companion with intelligence to defy his master. Handle Animal wont work, though diplomacy might keep him friendly. Still, I cant see him liking what the ranger is asking him to do. What happens if the monkey doesn't want to be an animal companion, now that he is smart enough to make decisions? Thoughts?
Now that I got your attention, I do think that people who play online are playing d&D/pathfinder, etc. If fact for some it is the only form of game they get to play, but I have noticed things sometimes.
So my question is, do you feel that playing online will make you feel differently about your character choices, decisions, and how you think about rule interpretations, than playing face to face with friends would? Especially when it comes to making those "good for my group" vs "good for me" decisions.
While I know the rules support this, I wanted to get some opinions. A player asked me if it was ok to go natural weapon combat style from the APG. I thought this was a bit strange as he was using bow and daggers. I asked him about this and his plan was to take natural weapon style but use it to take weapon focus bow, and vital strike and improved vital strike that he was going to use for his bow also. He wanted to create a one shot one kill type character.
Hey all. Want to get your creative juices flowing in prep for RPG superstar. There used to be a program on the web, that you could enter a number and it would spit out that many tavern encounters. Short little description of people that are in a tavern. How about we make some here. small encounters that a DM can throw randomly into a tavern to add some atmosphere. There are a few rules. 1. Keep it generic, so it can be used in any fantasy game, world, etc.
Here are some I have. A middle aged man sits at a table. He wears a brown cloak that is closed tight. His hair is short, and he is reading a book. [perception] He is actually hiding a scroll behind the book and is reading off of the scroll Two young women sit close looking at a deck of ivory cards. One chooses a card from the deck and laughs. A young man dressed in a red cape with gold trim sits at a table eating an expensive meal. He has a hunting dog sitting on the floor beside him. When he moves, you think you see something glowing faintly on his belt. Anyone want to add?
I will start off saying I am on the left on most issues, just to get that out there but I have been thinking a lot about our economy lately and have looked at the view from both sides. Here is how I see it and why I don’t understand where the right is coming from. If I am missing something, please let me know what it is and how it is relevant.
Hi 4ers. Just wanna ask a question. For anyone who has played a campaign up from level 3 into the 20's, how is higher level play? I'm looking for people who have played all the way through, not those who just try the high levels to see what ti is like. The play is different when you use a character for that long. Are the battles still exciting and flow nicely? Are the enemies still challenging? Do you find yourself with too many option, or it is a nice fit?
During my game last night, we were talking about one of my player's concepts. He wants to be a monster hunter and still function as a party healer. He was interested in the inquisitor but it really does not suit my style. We threw around some ideas, and came up with this. (I'm not going to stat it yet, it is just a floating idea, but I wanted to see peeps opinions). It takes from other classes (So would not be a good fit for a class to include in a boook for sale. this is just for home play). Start with a ranger. Pull out animal companion, favored terrain, combat styles. Drop the BAB to 3/4. Add in spontaneous casting of divine spells at the bard progression. Throw in a weakened channel doing less damage, but affecting hated races when the damage option is chosen. and add the knowledge domain. Any thoughts?
I am pretty biased as to which one I prefer, so I try to avoid putting in my opinion when I can, but I was talking my FLGS owner today and he said that his 4th ed sales are slowing way down, and his pathfinder sales are picking up. He also said that 3.5 sales are growing like crazy. So much that the books people were trading in (To buy 4ed) are now selling over retail as he can't keep them on the shelves. (While my friend was there someone bought the Expanded Psionics handbook for $45.) Without debating the system, marketing etc, I am just wondering it anyone else has seen this change. I know it is good for Pathfinder, but it is good for the hobby in general?
I hope this is ok to post here. I am working on bringing DM Genie updated to the Pathfinder Rules, and have started a yahoo group for anyone intrested in helping code or enter data. As people finish different parts, they are welcome to share what they do with the community (OGL only stuff of course) but the group and work in progress is only open to thoes actively working on it If you interested come on down and join http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/dmgeniepathfinder/. Anything I do will eventually be posted for eveyone in the other DM Genie groups.
Not sure where this should go, this looks like the closest place. I am new to Paizo, though I used to buy the old Dungeon and Dragon Mags. The one thing I didn't really like about them were the adventure paths. I play in a game world of my own making, and it is difficult at time to fit the adventures into my campaign world. As I say that, I also want to sat that Paizo makes some of the best adventures out there. The quality is amazing. So my suggestion is maybe in addition to the adventure paths, how about some adventures that are setting non-specific. Freeport is a great example of this, where they have temple to the god of sea, for example, that you can plug you own god in.
Just a thought, but that is the main reason I have not picked up paizo books. (beside the pathfinder rpg) I have two adventures that I bought to try to fit into my game, and am just finding it much more difficult than I imagined. I know Paizo is commited to Golorion, but it would be awesome to see maybe another line of adventures, more generic themed.
I may be in the minoroty, but I really liked the 3.5 grapple. My group did not have any probles with it at all. Last night was my second playtest with the new rules. I had a blast, but one thing that hit us is the fact that the attack roll was taken out of trip, grapple, et all. This brought up a problem. Your defense has nothing to do with getting away before the opponent could grab you. We came up with a case, where an ogre can grapple a pixie anytime, withour problem (Concidering the size bonus) regardless of the speed or ac of the pixie. With the old grapple and trip, the initial attack roll, allowed a character to try to defend. In the curent system, my elf's expertise, and fighting defensivley, and magic dodge stuff, does not help me avoid getting grabbed at all. I would like to see the initial touch attack back to start one of these manuvers (Trip and grapple). Then the CMB works fine.
Trips and grapples need an initial attack roll, touch attack. If you make it you can automatically make your CMB check to engage the grapple, or attempt to trip.
One thing that was changed, I think should go back. When you grapple an opponent you should move them into the your square (or if the are a size bigger then you, you move into thier square. You would give eachother cover (-4) so anyone attacking either grappler has a chance to hit the other one. The exception would be if one is pinned, outsiders can make attacks on the pinned opponent with no change of hitting the non pinned one, if they so choose. Note there is no distinction between being grappled, or being the grappler, unless one of you gets a pin. You both have the grappled condition. This is consitant with grappling in the real world as far as I have seen it, once you get in it, it goes to the better grappler, no matter who started it. Well, just my opinions. We had a BLAST, and I will definatley be picking it up, one the games comes out, unless the beta has a lot more negative changes.
