Historic Milestone!

... for giving the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook 5 stars. Even if it has some errata, and bits of rules that one may disagree with, it is the result of an RPG milestone, and a work of art at the same time.

I've been playing RPGs since the 80s, and I can't think of any time, ever, that so many players were actively involved in the evolution of a game system. Part of it is enabled by the advent of the internet, but the majority of the credit goes to the pros at Paizo that looked to the fanbase for inspiration and relentless playtest. The interaction only made us all hungry for more!

The end result is a weighty tome that made me smile just at the sheer size of it! It's awesomely huge! The cover art is a phenomenal WAR piece that sets the tone perfectly. Graphically, the layout is decorative without being distracting, and the text is easy to read. It shouldn't even need to be mentioned, but the ink doesn't smudge... <ahem> It smells great too!

The sheer volume of game rules included is boggling - it has all of the requisite players rules - basics, races, classes, equipment, spells; along with game system - combat, magic, skills, feats; and GM guides, including prestige classes and magic items. The only thing it DOESN'T have is monsters! It really is a comprehensive RPG tome, on par with the old WFRPG in levels of "complete-ness".

I'm not going to spend much on the rules themselves, as you should already know they are an updated D&D 3.5. If you are new to Paizo, the best part is 95% of them have been thoroughy playtested and revised over the last couple years, so you can join in knowing you aren't getting a gimp revision!

In summary, I am very happy with the PF RPG rulebook - I was expecting something excellent, which is the Paizo standard, and got something extraordinary! Not only is it a historical moment in RPG evolution, but a superb product.

I hope the 4e devs take note - PF RPG shouldn't be looked at as a competing product, per se, but the production values of this tome have set a new standard in excellence.
