+1 for obscure fact of the day.

chris.

getting there.

my mule's name is william. here are his hp:
William's HP: 1d8 ⇒ 4

like susan, he's usually kickin' it at the home stables. i was pretty cranky about that since i needed the lantern i keep in his pack in that last encounter. if we head out of the city, i'll bring him with us, otherwise, assume he's there.

btw, i noticed there's not really a "tl;dr-skip-this-quest-description-window" button that just assigns me a quest and tells me where to go. hrm. strange.

chris.

btw, i bet if we get william and susan together, we can make a tidy little side business selling pack mules!

william thinks that's a great idea.

chris.

lookit me. all reading and replying and stuff.

chris.

also, i'm all caught up and stuff.

chris.

btw, i'm up in l.a. for a couple days. my responses may be slow.

chris.

this site's dice roller hates me. just sayin'.

chris.

sure, mr. i'm-gonna-drop-a-5/5-indestructible-lich-on-turn-3-in-a-12-person-game, it was totally my fault.

geez!

and, yeah cj -- we totally need more googly eyes around this joint.

chris.

I didn't get home early enough to do this, but I'll take care of it before we're out of the city.

what?!?!? for crying out loud, what were you doing last night? probably something dumb like an 11-person mtg grand melee game, huh.

chris.

oh, and good lord, but i roll like ass on these boards.

chris.

indeed, it's cool. my dude's in the back with his crossbow.

tho, if i'm scouting, it might make more sense for me to be out front. for sure when we're outside, i'm up front.

chris.

Need some CJ and Chris posts as well to let me know they're caught up and reading.

word. caught up. i'm here. etc.

also, i don't think i'm personally a fan of the flex time thing for narrative stuff. it may make the game go faster, but i find myself only caring about one path and ignoring the others.

for example, zograthy is the only one that is sticking in my head and that i actively read. the rest all blend together in confusion so i end up skipping them for time's sake so that i don't have to go back and re-read all of their previous posts for context.

it feels like reading three books at the same time, but rotating every paragraph.

DM Fflash wrote:
You at least staying caught up with the story?

yup, yup. it's much easier in this forum format than the old email campaigns.

chris.

Btw, I'm in Canada again for the next three days. Spotty internet.

Chris.

P.s. again - stupid Canadian carriers.

P.p.s. this damn site isn't very phone-friendly.

Yeah, sorry. It's been a busy week. Had basketball playoffs and final this week and have been working long days so I could take Friday off to go away for the weekend with my wife for our 16th wedding anniversary.

indeed! congrats!

man, i thought i was the old man at 12 years!

chris.

But I also babble a lot. :) I'm open to any method. Easy options work, too.

i'm out of pocket until thursday and will only have spotty internet access -- stupid canada and stupid-expensive data roaming.

i am going to pick up a heavy crossbow in the market, but i need some cash help. if i could use one of the gems, that'd be swell.

oh, and i'm cool with whatever anyone thinks about dividing up the loot. clarence is fairly loot-agnostic. (except for that damn crossbow... stupid gremlin.)

/autofollow

chris.

that reminds me -- i've gotta find clarence another stupid crossbow. grrr.

chris.

alrighty. and i got my equipment squared away, tike. i had to but a mule (his name's william, of course) to carry all my extra stuff. damn hunting and tracking and trapping gear and such. on the plus-side, i was able to get my bear trap. yay!

so, my encumbrance is medium now.

chris.

DM Fflash wrote:
And tools, you need tools or you take a minus 2.

ah. excellent. i would have totally missed that too.

thanks!

chris.

A trapper has the following class features:

Class Skills

A trapper adds Disable Device to her list of class skills in addition to the normal ranger class skills.

Trapfinding

A trapper adds 1/2 her ranger level on Perception skill checks made to locate traps and on Disable Device skill checks (minimum +1). A trapper can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.

well, s@&*. i totally missed that. wasn't using it as a class skill and didn't have the 1/2 level thing in there either.

tike, i'm going to mark that as a class skill and it'll put it at a 7.

chris.

oh, and did i read that right? andel burned a feat on scholar? really? man... who built that guy?

chris.

i've got disable. it's just not a 5 or higher. right now, it's a 3.

oh, and tike, i must have changed it from the knowledge geography right after you grabbed a snapshot. i had missed it on my first pass of skills. also, don't forget i still need to take some time and de-dupe my equipment.

steve -- the dice tags have that "Attack" in there. that's something you probably want to adjust to represent whatever it is you're rolling. like dice=Damage or something.

Note, tactical map for the current fight will come out once CJs character is complete.

btw, mike was helping cj work on his dude over lunch. oh, and it's cj's birthday today.

woot! happy birthday, cj!

chris.

as far as i can tell, the year is 4712.

from this:
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Calendar

Quote:
At the start of the Rise of the Runelords campaign, the date is 4707 AR (Absalom Reckoning).[1] The current date is 3 Kuthona, 4712.

since that mirrors real world time, i'll put us in the spring of 4712 AR. Gozran the 12th, 4712 AR to be exact. we had dinner on the 11th. it's currently clear and 49 degrees.

chris.

man. those are lots of numbers.

where do you want me to post changes in time and temperature? like in their own post? or attached to mine? or in the discussion thread?

chris.

oh, and i'll be the timekeeper since noone else wants to. lemme get somewhere that i can dig out a pathfinder calender something or other and find a fun date.

do i get to do the weather too!?

chris.

srsly, tho. i was thinking i was just going to check to see how it was made to offer a clue how to open it. i wasn't really doing a traditional "check for traps" thing. tho, i guess reading his speech, that's kinda how it came off. damn. i got all distracted by the weird dice roll thing.

right, then -- lesson one: more explicit descriptions of the rolls.

tike: do i try a disable device then as to how to take it apart? or should i use perception in that i'm looking for details? basically, i want to see if i can determine something beyond the bits of scroll that we have as to how it was made.

i want to roll for something, dammit!

chris.

p.s. other than dave's dweebiness, of course.

yeah, but you have a 1-in-12 chance of being a ninny.

is dave a ninny: 1d12 ⇒ 1

oh, look. you are!

chris.

it's not really about cheating. it takes all the fun and surprise and wonder out of it.

"oh, i'm going to fail. my enthusiasm for finishing this post just hit the floor."

i guess i'm just going to have to avoid using the preview button so i don't ruin it for myself.

chris.

okay. so, i totally hate the dice thing. you can see what your value is going to be in the preview window before you even post it. how does that work? can i just skip the dice roll if i get a bad one?

lame.

1d100 + 1d100 ⇒ (50) + (74) = 124

oh... surprise! 124!

chris.

hey guys.

i dunno if the bbcode thing irritates you as much as me. (LOVE the formatting to read, HATE the formatting to type) so, i went ahead and dropped in a quick bbcode editor on my website for some of the longer posts we're going to write. it might be especially handy for you tike, since you've got the long, multi-variant passages to work with.

/shrug

feel free to use it if you find it useful:

1 person marked this as a favorite.

okay. i think i know what i'm wanting to play.

a trapper ranger archetype:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/archetypes/paizo---rang er-archetypes/trapper

with a larry personality:
http://media.ticketmaster.com/tm/en-us/dbimages/46411a

sound like a plan?

chris.

p.s. i'm so unbearably awesome.
