It would most likely be only once a month or so, and most likely on Thursday nights. Would that work for your schedule? Valhalla's Gate is indeed still open, but I don't think they are running any Society games. I was running a few different Society games for a while, with a grand total of 13 different players, but many of the organizing players kept getting their characters killed. They didn't like the "play two scenarios, die in the third, start over" cycle. I would be willing to run again, however, if I can only find the time. If you are interested, you can send me an e-mail at kikai13 at yahoo.com. I could probably find enough players to fill the other slots if you don't have anyone else in your group who wants to do Pathfinder Society. If you do have a group of 4-6, I could run your entire group if you would like. Agi Hammerthief wrote:
Parents have been telling their children that there is no forum monster for some time now, just so's the kids can get to sleep at night. But, I assure you, it is Very Real. I, too, am a huge Bond fan, having read all of the books and seen every movie in the theater since The Spy Who Loved Me. My opinion of the newest movie? Effing brilliant. So the bad guy is a real person who doesn't have metal hands or a fortress inside a volcano or diamonds embedded in his face--I like the gritty realism of the new Bond movies better. Yes, Bond is acting like a thug right now. He is still learning some of the ropes. I am sure he will gain some refinement as his career goes on. I find it strange that Daniel Craig has become my favorite Bond ever. I grew up on the Roger Moore Bond, and Craig is a complete 180 from Moore. But there is something about the realism of these movies that makes the old ones (that I still love) somewhat cheesey. I will agree that some of the "quick cut" camera shots are distracting, however. I wish the directors would get back to clear camera shots. The opera scene was brilliant, but my favorite scene was the exchange between Bond and M in Russia at the end. I can understand why some people would not like it and be nostalgic about the days (and gadgets) of Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, but I do think that these newer Bond films are just...better. I posted this thought elsewhere, but this thread seemed to be a more appropriate place to throw this out. I really like the tomb aspect of Osirion--one of my favorite Dungeon adventures is The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb. I would really like to see an adventure path that sends the characters into deadly tombs of wicked Pharoahs. Not the entire storyline, mind you--that might get a bit boring--but if there were a few such places that would have to be discovered and delved it would be coooooooool. Edit: I also really like the siege idea, just above this post. I had a great time playing last night. I rolled a few 1's, but they were only on initiative. I am more than happy to roll 1's on initiatives or skill checks as long as I don't roll them on my attacks. I don't know how I am going to get through the next two weeks without playing--Stupid Thanksgiving is messing up next week's game time. Excited about messing up some drow in the next session. The only conundrum that is bothering me right now is how to take out Zincher without messing up Akron's mission. I'm sure Amiri will come up with something, and if she doesn't she will probably just attack Zincher anyway. Boy, I sure wish some of the other folks from this group would post more often. I'm getting lonely on this thread. ;) Anyhoo, looking forward to next time. If Abe could figure out a way to get off work early, we could probably play longer.... I rolled so much better this time! I knew my bad luck couldn't last forever. I am much happier with this last session than with the previous two. I thought that the free-fall combat with the Akatas in the rolling tower was fun, but I do prefer the more structured, more tactical combats that include minis and mats. I still don't like Zincher, but I think that Amiri would have Samaritha's well-being at the forefront of her mind. Once Samaritha is picked up by the Flying Cloud, Amiri might just go a little wild. That would be fun. So far, no drow on the island. I hope we can find some soon. Maybe they all turned into lion-slugs and we can just find their camp and pick up all their stuff. Yeah, right. For anyone reading this journal who thinks it is strange that I did more damage to myself than anyone else did to me, I can explain. Having an effective armor class of 22 for most of the fight, I was very hard to hit. However, it seems that I have a problem with rolling a lot of 1's. Our DM has ruled that a natural 20 is an instant draw from the critical hit deck, but a natural 1 is an instant draw from the critical failure deck. Because of the large number of critical failure cards that I have become only too familiar with, I have decided that I will do anything to get the "Better Lucky Than Good" feat from the Complete Scoundrel.
I am enjoying the game very much. I commend you for keeping things running well and making everything fun. No, I did not feel ripped off when I tore up the main bad guy so quickly--I kinda dig doing that. With the limping dude, you don't need to apologize. We figured out a way in story that still allowed him to move at his full movement rate. However, don't ever be afraid to let someone kill a mook more easily, as they are only there to be slain anyway. Kudos to you sir, as I am having the time of my life in this game!! I have been a DM for 27 years now. I love to play, but I like the moment of realization better. That special moment when the players find out the twist to the story that they have been a part of. There's nothing better than seeing grown adults with the twinkle in their eyes of children on Christmas morning. I like to know, to anticipate, when that moment is coming, which is a big part of why I like to DM. My wife and I are throwing out Goonies references left and right this week, but its probably because we are vacationing on Coastal Oregon. Stayed the night at Cannon Beach, where several scenes were filmed. Great movie. Side note: the place we stayed at had a library of several hundred movies that guests could borrow for free. I asked the girl about The Goonies--it seems that they have about a dozen copies of that one because it is the most requested movie at the inn. To Mssrs. Frost and Logue, Just wanted to know a bit more info--I have 12 players chomping at the bit to get into this. I will be dividing them up into 2 or 3 groups and running each at different times. Just curious as to how to report (would it be easier to fax in the sheets?) what the procedures are for making these games official, if there are any faux paus that I should avoid, etc. All of my players are making characters and deciding factions tomorrow, and I have already purchased all of the scenarios. We would like to begin Society play next Thursday, but can put this on hold if necessary. I will happily await instructions on how to proceed. Thanks! Luke wrote:
Speaking of policy reversals, have you heard that his handlers have taken away his cell phone? It seems that his policies are greatly influenced by whoever he has spoken with last. His handlers took away his phone so he would be able to get his positions straight. What an absolute jerkweed. My older brother (the guy that first introduced me to D&D) was in the 82nd Airborne in Desert Storm. He was in the military for 12 years, and played Dungeons and Dragons. I guess McCain just wants to try and hurl insults that would have gotten him some brownie points with the religious wrong back in 1984. I have witnessed many games slowed down immensely by the multiple attack thing. Sometimes having so many attacks is not a good thing, especially because there is a diminishing return on the attacks as they go along. What about a feat that allows a character to drop one or more attacks per round in order to gain a +2/+2 bonus for the remaining attacks? Most fighters, therefore, would have options: if facing several weaker opponents, they could use all of their attacks and wipe out the opponents faster. If facing a tougher opponent, they could focus their attacks better and not have to worry about rolling multiple attacks that have little chance of hitting. Just a thought. Lisa Stevens wrote:
Lisa, Thanks for the info. I am a patient person: know that, whether it be two years or ten years before you come out with pre-painted minis, I will be here--waiting, cash in hand. And just in case you don't hear it enough--Paizo rocks! I must admit that at one point in time, I was a ravinous collector of D&D minis. I have complete sets of every expansion from Dragoneye to Night Below, pulled from the vast number of cases I would purchase. I didn't buy a single pack of Dungeons of Dread, and I'm not impressed with Against the Giants so far. The packs with huges in them are by far my favorites, but this one hasn't shown anything cool yet. Oh, if only there was another company out there that could produce pre-painted, plastic minis. They could release an expansion every, say, six months or so. Perhaps there could be an overarching theme drawn from a path of, like, six or so adventures. That would be really cool. Does anyone know of a company that could do that? We have now played the second session in the brand-new campaign from this crazy DM, and things are going swimmingly. The campaign world is a Thieves' World-type, and we are adventuring in a town that some call Sanctuary and others call Freeport. Similar to New York in the late 1800's, there are eight or ten different cultures in this city, and they don't tend to like one another all that much. They all speak their own languages, and so language can become quite a barrier. In fact, there are two party members that can't even communicate with each other! Red-haired barbarians keep the peace in this town, but their hearts really aren't in it--twice now a barbarian has come across me disposing of bodies, and both times he laughed to himself and kept walking. The important part is that, so far, this campaign has been great. No really weird stuff, and a great suspension of disbelief--this game so far has been very realistic. Everything has a purpose, and so I don't feel like I'm just fighting creatures rolled up on a random table (like in the other campaign, described above.) Good job, Abe!
