Gotta get me a second one!
Wed, Dec 17, 2008, 02:43 PM
This is possibly the most useful product I've ever purchased. Been using it a couple of years now and I've never regretted it. My only real qualm, if it can even be called such, is that when marker gets into the creases where it folds it's a bit harder to clean and I worry about it ripping there. Other then that, I find it amazing. Most likely I'm gonna get me another one or two. just so that I don't have to erase when maps are bigger then just one. Anyone that uses miniatures will love this product. the fact that both wet and dry erase markers can be used is great. no risk of accidently grabbing the wrong marker! Buy this! You won't regret it!

Great Start.

Ok, I said I would write a review for this if Paizo hosted it, and they did so here.
(This is going to sound a lot like the review before me...mostly 'cuz I feel pretty much the same way.)
Positive:
- The price. 3 Adventures, a couple comics and a handful of other articles for $3.50? It’s a great deal.
- No Ads. It really is roughly 100 pages of content.
- A bunch of full page pictures, which are neat for using as NPC’s or monsters.
- The variety in the articles. There’s even one for cooking snacks for gaming night. And as mentioned before, the one on Character Background is awesome.
Negative:
- Lack of maps in the adventures. My mapping skills aren’t that good, so I look forward to maps being included to get a better sense of the area. It doesn’t make the adventures impossible to run, just harder.
- Page layout could be improved. It switches from 2 columns to 3 columns to different background colors. I found it made it harder to read then it could’ve been, and it made it seem quite amateurish. Some consistency would definitely make it a better product I feel.
Conclusion:
It’s a great first effort, and well worth buying. I have a feeling some of the things like editing will improve as more get released, but I for one am looking forward to issue 2.

A touch of flavour, but...
Mon, Sep 8, 2008, 12:56 PM
these cards do add flavour to the game, and none of their advertising is false. they do show "grime" from being oft-used, however, that's possibly the only plus to these cards. The lack of rules included was a definate drawback since it was one reason i bought the deck, and for the price I was sort of expecting "more" then I got. and some of the cards (like the jack of diamonds) are hard to read in a fast game. So unless it is important to your game to get the exact "old west" feel of the cards, then save your money and get a deck for .50$ from a doller store, or these instead. Half the price and about the same feel.

Awesome Resource

This book is amazing. I am going to print this out and spiral bound it and I can see It taking a very prominant place in my monster resources, right after Tome of Horror and right before Fiend Folio. My only qualm was that I wanted it to be longer, what with all the great writing and stuff, but considering how much you're getting for that price it is allready a fabulous deal. I really look forward to anything else SKR writes, and I especially hope he does more monsters!

Amazing

I just finished reading this. IT was fantastastic. The flavour and backgrounds have really sparked my imaginiation. So creative and lots of stuff I never thought of. Good Job Sean. Can't wait to see more.

Not perfect...

First the bad: yes, this book is riddled with mistakes and errors. A lot of them.
On the other hand: This book is pretty good for an in depth look at the robotech universe. The details on the veritech and the Invid were amazing and my players loved it. And character creation was pretty straightforward and simple and everyone got to play what they wanted.
Playing: Because of the errors and ommisions, it was touch and go, but there is enough story information and rules there to run a pretty good game. And who doens't love giant robots transforming to fight aliens?
Summary: small and portable. cheaper then hardcover. lots of errors and missing stuff. buy the hardcover.

I loved this

The title pretty much says it all: I loved this! I'm always looking for new and interesting takes on existing creatures and ideas, and this is some of the best material I've read in that vein in a long, long time. Good Job Liz, and kudos to everyone else who worked on it. I look forward to reading the rest of the line!
