the pearls are just hypercharged obsidian orbs.. and the ultimate spell would slay all other life on athas, extinguish th sun and make "demogorgon" into a dragon that dragons even Borys ;)

lol!

A actual tropical island.. whole lakes of water omg..!
Whats next, iron in the mountains?

You getcher own ship. That's awesome.

And lose it soon after.. "at this adventure`s climax they run aground on the northeastern shore of the Isle of dread" Savage tide preview, Dungeon 138, >adventure 3 The seawyverns wake>

Hire them.. i bet these expert sailors almost grows on trees in a city like this. Shouldnt be any problem to get 50 level 1 experts, 30 level 2 and some 3 level 6 "officers".

Sure thats expensive, but i et there are vanderboren fiunds to cover that, if nothing else sell some furniture ;)

hmm sure you dont take separate ships, that was the impression i got from the overarch in #138.

But should you leave something behind for whatever reason, like a ship.. and nor to forget the vanderboren manor: Dont overlook the chance to first fill it with lethal self-renewing impossible to find traps :D
That should give you a few thousand XP every now and then, and make the thieves in the city more honest too :D

Stated it elsewhere too, but quick repetition.

Sasserine, or other city used.. at amn, possibly tethyr.
Nelanther does a good service of being a pirate hq of sorts.

Dread isle itself placed at the third pont in a perfect triangle: chult, zakhara, and the isle.

Im sure a combination of darwins (or other pre 1900 naturalists!) scetches, and a bit "jurassic park" conceptive art works ;)

ps. isnt are like this the perfect downloadable handout?

Yes. The colony on the Isle is in many ways a settlement or town of its own. There will be a place to rest, get healing, relax, and even shop. I expect that the "we can cash in our treasure and buy whatever it is we want" mentality of most 3rd Edition games will take a hit, though. We'll see...

Oh yes!

Will be intresting to see if gold has any real value atall, excpt for the curious collector expecting to cash it in for real stuff in civilisation ;)

But primarily this brings me to something called "the purple staff" society in turmish, seeking to improve their land thru magic... continous light, wall of stone roads, buildings, automata for manufacture etc.. :D

There must be progress, and the entire island and seas around will be optimised for wealth production..

not bad atall.

adding in the special things of that place, liquid fire and such..

Spawns other cretures huh?
Something that could be managed, and harvested for slave manpower? :D

hehe, anyone who has played the spelljammer computergame should know about umberhulks... as their confusion gaze made you helpless, and killable in one strike!

Needless to say, those were dealth with by fireballs instead of melee..

Im actually considering Athlakalta, Amn.
Chult is a bit too primitive, while Calimport has other story problems.

That said, anything in Amn or Tethyr would work beautifully.. but cannot see why say waterdeep couldnt work.. or even Luskan if you really want to. Althought that trip will be really, really long ;)

hmm.. 15 tigers or one wyvern? Thats the question :D

Monk? lol.
More like a exp 3 profession fisherman ;)

Giant oysters... with giant pearls :)

Howabout locke, the rougish knifethrower? ..and a collection of some 300 various daggers.. :D

an extra " . " in that address ;)

maybe.. but demons do backstab, so..

So yeah, cooperate until its almost done, then do a partykill & drag the souls of the rest of the party kicking and screaming to the master ;)

Is it true, that the guide will be downloadable for free in a few months?!
Yup. I'm not sure how long it'll take to get it online, but I'd like to have it available as soon as possible after issue #139 starts reaching subscribers and newsstands. It might take a few weeks, but hopefully it'll be available as a free PDF download some time early next month.

Nice, then us creditcard-liberated people, somewhere north of archangelsk, might even get it before #139 ;)

..got #138 just a week ago. lol.

Ah yes.. meatshield..

LOl

Now perhaps a inspiration for that name came from a certain movie..? :D

http://www.starwreck.com/ (yes free!)

A star treck -babylon 5 movie made by university kids.. and looking as good as any babylon 5 episode. Trust me on that.
And absolutely hillarious characters, the thrughtly: insecure, arrogant and incompetent captain Pirk of Enterprise, Info the android so punctually correct as to be a idiot.. yet perhaps the most competent of the whole bunch. Or the overtly macho Plingon named Dwarf, who is but a small child inside..
Oh and then we have the speechmaker commander with subordinates at babylon 5..

A absolute mustsee if you havent.

or bhaal and set them up against someones old character from shadows of amn :D

Grreat!

Thanks JJ

LOL, but on the commercial..

That ananas really does look like a terrifying chaosmonster. And im not entirely sure which would win.. the black dragon, or the chaosmonster whit its smaller hooks (2d10 attacks on anyone nearby) and the major tentacles on top of it.. grabbing & swallowing :D
In addition to its terrifying auraabilitiies -domination & submissionfields (like vow of nonviolence)

For gathering information, infiltrating the pirates, and turning factions against each other?

Pacifying & negotiating with various neanderthal, aboriginal etc humanoid/almost humanoid tribes around, getting the right to enter their dwellings, seek cover... and perhaps build a Grand Federation of Goodness? ;)

Should be worth gold as the tide of savageness is closing in, being able to pull all the creatures together and singing "come by here my lord, come by here..", ultimately frustrating demogorgons ambitions.

Nor to forget, a bard should be really excellent at gathering allies.. perhaps in a upcoming battle they might need a tribal leader -neanderthal barbarian16 to help slay some demons?

Or more likely getting information, all the lore should be out there amongs the rakhasta, araneans, lizardmen etc.. they just arent talking to eachother, gather the lore and be able to draw conclusions noone else could. All have their small share of the puzzle.. and the bardic lore ability to make sense of all that information, what is true and what isnt.

------------------

umm, there is also the "draconic knowledge"(Dra) feat, just be a dragonwrought kobold with the feat, make your "lair" there on the island, and soon you will know all the ancient secrets..

Better hope those arent too city centric, since afaik the players wont be around after the second adventure.

And will never see the city again either, except maybe as a trade delegation bringing the goods of the jungle (captured dinos, coral, seashells, spices? Metals? & Other agricultural products etc..) for CASH!
But even that is likely no more than one adventurer, the rest will stay keeping the island progressing, orderly and producing.

Thanks!

Mushroom is still to be created.
Int 14 wis 10 cha 6.. 3HD miniature myconoid. Or something.
And the slimecave too, with a kobold tribe nearby.. lol.
Slimebath & gelatinous cube for bed and those red fungies that give the ability to not need breathing...

Throw that at your advenurers and see if they notice the reference :D

Thanks, still not up, but soon. :)

One (fighter, rogue or rare sorcerer "i collect the teeth/ears") got fascinated by their weakness, yet amazing strength thru overwhelming numbers.. can you say 5500 kids/family for a full life.. and inventive traps. Why fight directly if you can blow up your opposition.. or smash beneath a 200`*20`*50` rock, having rigged the roof of a whole dungeon chamber.. fleeing from the dragon, and then dropping the rock.. yup, dao work fast and silently with stone..

Anyway, so the other player (our usual drunk priest) got into the idea.. and the third (witchhunter/paladin/sometimes monk -mostly quiet and leaves the two other to scheme..) followed semi-convinced after a bit persuasion. Yeah 6 characters for 3.. but it works when actions etc movement is fasttracked/somewhat stripped.

The 2 main "kobolds" are now busy planning seamines, landmines, ways to catch & train dinos, holywater supersoakers.. etc nasty mechanics. Right now the argument is wheter to try to make dreadnoughts from walls of iron or just train dragonturtles instead for seadominance. Kraken or Dragon simulcra are popular too, just the problem of getting the flesh/scales in time.
-Yes, precisely the kind of ideas one on one hand loves, yet has to keep a tight lid on from working too well ;)

Yes, we all did island of dread when it came in the blue expert box, and remember it fairly well.. and all have the box too, and having dragged them up from cellars/attics etc countryhouses for a bit closer study... nice with the involvement, lets just hope there are still enough surprises along the road.. if they dont manage to blow themselves up making a 50d6+ Humungous Grand Wyrmbomb first.. letsee craft alchemy, roll.. oops a 1 ;)

Just wondering any out there, or planned to be made?

N, CN or NE?
Definately something along the lines of oozemaster, and probly quite high level too, druid 5/"oozedruid" 10.

or for something really dangerous: 2 imps with wizard levels.. and having eachother as familliars :D

Thats a lot of extra HP, say 100 base HP each, now 150 when boosted.. which becomes 175 oh 187 oh 193.. oh wait.. actaully doubling (to 200 both) as 1/2 reaches infinity -basic infinity mats ;)

A huge gang of pirates arriving, bu ship perhaps?
I pity them, they have no ideas what kobold minds can create...

1. Seamines, atleast half the ships sunk with that.
2. Dragon turtle hit n run
3. Coral golems dealing with landing squads, 32HD.. at a mere 40K a shot when gathering the corals yourself & being a effective crafter.
4. Landmines & other traps at the shore.. even if only the highest leaders should survive that far
5. Dino cavalry with neanderthal mercs
6. Befriended dragons as air support for the armored cavalry

Poor pirates, never knew what hit `em.
This from a crew of 5-6th levelers who wanted to try to, and did, slay the tarrasque (dug a series of pits & filled with water -> drowned). Admittedly knowing the stats for said monster, but still!
Preparing the battlefeld is 90% of the victory.. another 5% for following thru the perfect plan..

Human VOP monk
Kobold DW Sorcerer
Kobold Cleric (Io) /concordant
Kobold Rogue/sorcerer/daggerspell
Kobold Cleric of Kurtulumak
Kobold Fighter/Ranger/something archer

Vop monies go to kobold tribal welfare.. monks ancestors killed a lot of kobolds in youth and now the son will pay penance for that :)

Yes, there will be a Kobold Empire. And most will take leadership to get A LOT of (Kobold) followers to build the Empire. Oh and dragons too.. in addition to befriending any who live there already.

Lets just hope for the gnomes sake none live there..

Asd all uninhabited islands, there should be a definite lack of good authority.. leaving evil to flourish... except im not really evil atall. No, sacrificing gnomes to kurtulumak is a good or neutral action, really! ;)

Well maybe one problem, the natives might be less willing to cooperate once you have captured a few and sacrificed them to some demons or placed half a tribe into painracks.. yup, i really need those agony doses for making magic items ..to fight evil.. that makes me good right? :D

Then ofcourse there are other actions, like massive clearcutting and developing the island, importing population and placing the natives in sugar- or cotton- farms. Druids might object to draining the swamplands and clearing out the dinosaurs while setting up a few thousand mining camps along the endless mountains.

But thats all really just inevitable progress, not evil atall. Right?

Emrikol who is that anyway?
Cannot recall having seen that character anywhere else than in "paladin in hell".

Hyper sensitice, us?
Hah!

If anything banned from discussion boards on the repeated basis of general insensitivity :D ..esp regarding certain 60yr old issues..

But yeah, meepo would be awesome fun, this time having constructed a belt of gargantuan fighting.. (+250Hp, Bab+25, Fists 6D10 & AC+20, Str+40 & Con+20).. remember that gem from Demonwing? ;)

yeah, more encounters early.. but post- say, 8th level a toughening up should work, since 8 lvl10 certainly are atleast as tough as 4 level 12. Probly more so..

hmm..

more encounters until you hit 3rd, then +1.. and when they hit 5th level it should be safe to have the full +2. And as demonstrated above at 10th and above the group of 8 are something of an overkill ;)

well, there should be substantial swamps.. not to forget the many smaller isles. Perfect land for a black dragon or two dozen.. ;)

predator humm?

Guess we need a fastshooting repeating X-bow +1 with a attached boltholder of ehlonna then.. nicknamed "old painless" :D

..nor to forget that feral MountainOrk Fighter/barbarian/exotic weaponsmaster..

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA

isnt 7 vs 4 just a question of +2cr iirc?
Boost the encounters and you have equivalence again.

cannot see why 4 couldnt.. especially with a bit adaption.
The biggest weakness of those big demonladies is that they are so well known.. you can prepare for their weaknesses and strengths ;)

Like ELEMENTALISM.. dammit that can be strong stuff, when preparing a "formula" beforehand, sacrifice some 60 spellevels total for a 150d6 blast.
Sure getting there takes a minimum of 17500xp in prestige training and atleast another 2500xp in memorising said formula ;)

yup, new type outsider and maybe some intresting new power or two as you are formed more along the line of your unfocused will ;)

Maybe ultimately into a immaterial elemental of hellfire?
Starting here with a blur effect, and a sometimes working aura of that hellfire...

pirates, dinos & tropical plants. Kopru wouldnt hurt either..

Kobold sorcerer
Feral orc fighter/barbarian.. later no doubt 1/2 iron golem aswell
or
Feral Neandertal Barbarian/Feral +some type of shifter to help that ability along..
Human VOP cleric/apostle of peace
Kobold Sorcerer4/rogue16

BTW, checked out the legendary captain.. yopu dont ahve to be captain, master of the ship does too.

So the conflict is avoided, as master and captain do not need to be the same person.. off to check out the position on ships now will ya? ;)

hmm, why not have both?

Scarlet corsairs looks best to me tho..

Now that it has been mentioned, i must say i have also tended to view demogorgon as a female.. insofar as demonladies have genders, rather than being alterable at will ;)

Beholders?

Every wizard should have their own Beholder simulcra as a pet :)

wasnt it also mentioned "Re: timescale", that the third (iirc) adventure would take 2-3 months?

No doubt thats when you travel..? Level 6-8 that would be.

or megalodons.. those wonderful supersharks from Paladin in Hell, perhaps alongside an old friend, the wereshark?

Or Uzrivoy, in the hands of some Mudsorcerers who did survive their sleep?

Between Chult and Zakhara.. closer to Zakhara but more than anything, westwards.

Placed more or less where "Atlantis" would be.
And considering the Islands size.. hehhe :D
Heck if there doesent exista Atlantis, then its you duty to make one, right?
