I fully advocate more duck-related player options in this game.

Okay, then I'll stay.

I am also leaving Pathfinder. I don't approve of any game world that doesn't have waterfowl.

Yeah. The "Bread Bait" method was simple enough and told everyone exactly what it does in its name alone. You go to the market (using money you got as prizes for catching earlier ducklings), purchase the bread (higher qualities at higher levels of duckling capturing), stand back and throw (a ranged roll). Pretty straightforward.

That is straightforward. A little TOO straightforward. That rule put the focus on the bread, which quickly outpaced other methods of capturing ducklings. Obviously, each capture system is going to have its strengths and weakness. But because you can always buy more bread, that method actually gets more powerful the longer you play, which is why the game tends to break down early into fall season.

Suddenly, nobody wants to use a butterfly net anymore.

Moving dablings to the MM doens't bother me. It's been my experience that anyone who gets the core book also picks Duck Master Handbook and Mallard Manual. It's just moving them from one book to the other. They're all still in the Hunting/Gaming License.

What I'm really excited about is the Smew. They breed in May! So much potential for power-gaming!

Also, what of the Muscovy ducks? They were a classic duck to play... and they've moving them over from a player's option to the rivals? That's just ridiculous.

What you're forgetting in the very first book, which I guess now counts as CtD: Classic as opposed to 1st Edition, the Muscovies were the bad guys. It's just that everybody had someone who wanted to play a reformed musocvy, or a spy muscovy, or a muscovy kitten-sympahizer. By the time the book went back to print, they simply added them to the first chapter.

You always complain about CtD forgetting its roots, but in this case, they're remembering them.

Never trust a muscovy.

I forgot how kissy-kissy you were about 1st edition on the Duck Limited boards.

I can only assume that you, in fact, hate ducklings, and don't want anybody to catch any at all. This is the only reason I can think of that would explain your obsession with such an arcane and tedious ruleset.

I am thrilled that this game, which always better on paper than in play, is getting a much needed overhaul. New PCs will not have classes. Instead, character creation will be modular, with characters choosing new abilities from a single list after capturing x ducks. This eliminates the crazy "classwide" characters that everyone was making. Die rolls being more uniform is another plus.

What do you guys think? Also, how soon until this is available on Paizo.com?
