With some time to spare Drazan searches what there is left to search, remembering that books in the Darohm writings were of interest especially if they touched the subject of the fyorge. Any other Darohm history books or Darohm books on tactics would be of equal use and importance.

mechancis:

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

In the days waiting for the Storm Bringers, Drazan spends running patrols and familiarizing himself with weapons and battle tactics.

Sarenith 25, Drazan
=============
Strewn over his chair watching the people around him with a warm curiosity Drazan smiles wryly at Rheumy. You've made it this long without needing anyone to scatter your ashes or run you down a river. Don't ruin your chances by stealing that goat or any animal. You'd lose your head before you even bite into that tainted meat if the others had it their way. Though I'd try to convince them to let the unbearable pains from the meat in your belly, as it turns your insides out, kill you... should you choose to betray me or my trust over a goat. Drazan pauses to let the meaning settle before moving on, Killing those three wouldn't gain me anything I want. We're down river, where the dead are sent to the afterlife. These creatures are already dead. Life corrupted. They need to be cleansed of rot before they can be useful toward any army. Besides, I'm learning to like the Monk. Its not wise to entertain these ideas, they led you to the loss of your name. Focus on honing yourself and mind for the battles worth fighting. I'll show you.

Thanks for having me along for the ride. Looking forward to seeing this continue on to 3k and up for as long as there's fun to be had.

On a slightly unrelated topic, anyone here ever try gaming remotely and willing to share commentary about their experience(s)? I've just about beat Kingmaker and I'm getting the regular weekly-monthly gaming with a group itch.

I'd still have to recruit people for a game which is another topic/challenge. Used to be meetup.com was a great place to meet other people but my locale is a little barren with consistent groups there and admittedly the organized pathfinder/starfinder/D&D encounters/etc at the gaming shops aren't quite to my liking because of their isolated adventure context and tend to draw the same people that may or may not have friendly group mannerisms and no interest in longer regular campaigns. I dont know if I really need to share all this, as I really just need advice on the common platforms that a lot of gamers are using now or suggestions on how to get from where I am now to regular gaming quasi face to face.

Do you mean to say no offense, because we or one of use is the indignity? Zeva jokes dryly, or maybe not. Its hard to smile when every time your mouth cracks open it fills with wind and grit, let alone tell if someone would be smiling if they could in spite of it all.

Fourth Day
Unlikely these camels are war trained by the feel of it. Ooo, am I saddle soar. Ouch.

Radag, slouched over in his saddle as he often is, leans over and whispers to Aduard, Those looks seem familiar. Last time we saw its like was only moments before those idiots tried to assault us at Petros's procession. You remember that? Radag scoffs in disbelief. I miss the sport in besting other men. A smile creeps up on Radag's face as he recalls the brief encounter, though it takes the form of a crooked smirk on his chiseled and scared face.

Fair tidings to you, Radag calls when drawing closer, even lending friendly wave.

Ianfir (see link) the Druid is mostly done. Only need to finalize equipment, but I'll save that for when he makes the cut, if he makes the cut. Ianfir can fill the combatant role, divine caster, or a support role and I haven't really ever played a druid much, if at all, so it should be interesting.

Over the several days that pass since the Flight left the safety of the subterranean and temporary home, Drazan has been dutiful in assisting Sarre in matters of security. Any time Drazan spends not keeping a watchful eye out for the Flight in any humanoid or elemental form, he works with Fulton on understanding the tomb absconded from an abusive master, finally coming to realize the letters, words, and most meanings. Idled time is spent checking on or catching up with his friends and connections within the Flight, mostly listening for something he might be able to assist them with. Anything to keep his mind from stirring the idea of taking the Beastling's land for the Flight. The loss of any life in such a pursuit would be wasted for the wretched conditions of the earth here. Clearly the journey must continue.

The poor girl. Tsk tsk, beatings rarely produce desirable results. Honey over vinegar. Zaehyra says dryly upon seeing Hana. As to your question, perhaps. Now before you read too much into that immediate answer, know that information is valuable, and we've been in the business long enough to know the value of things, such is why we sell magical armaments for no less than fifty percent of its market price. So we will answer true to the three questions you're asking in exchange for Hana's freedom and guaranteed safety. Beating her more will only serve to deceive you, and I'm sure you'd rather spend your time acting with certainty and clarity based on our new information and facts. Do we have a deal, Sir...?

The Fyorge

Drazan steps up to Lijart as he continues to wipe his hands, Do not fear tomorrow, after seeing yesterday. Live, love, laugh today.

Desnus 25
Drazan looks up to Ippaxa asking, Will closing this seal it shut again? There is only a short pause before Drazan picks back up without a moment to allow a reply, No, never mind. It does not matter. It will be better if he has to earn it anyway. Then Drazan carefully closes the box, and stows in securely among his belongings. Now, I have to get back to work.

BARRACKS
Drazan stows the box for later tinkering, fighting the memory of Rigel as the answer to unlock it for him. "No. Appius was a old fighter that won his battles with cleverness. He won every match against another gladiator in the pits of Peklenc before he had even stepped into the ring. He taught me that the first few seconds of every fight are the most important. Play to your strengths and hold back nothing...

SHIELDROOM

Drazan's thoughts repeated his words from his talk of Appis,
demonstrating as he goes, Conflict is not always about the physical strength. Yes, when you swing an axe or pierce with a spear, you must strike with enough force and technique to kill the enemy behind your enemy, but even before your strike is complete, know your next move and more importantly your enemy's next move. If a horde came for us here, their numbers would mean nothing. The choke point means only a few can reach us at once. With a handful of capable men and axes I would cut through them until their bodies piled high giving us the upper hand forcing them to climb over their dead only to be at the mercy my warriors. With spears and shields,
they would smash into a wall of wood as every thrust of the spear fells them two as a time. The hair of the spears will become thick with blood, adding weight to the thrust, every death making the spear more deadly until its perfection. Always learn to use your surroundings to limit the options of your foe.

FYORGE

Picking up a danglestock Drazan grunts his approval, I am pleased that this works best. Speak with Oios about protecting the rubbings. The days ahead, if they are anything like recent days, will be wet and you do not want to lose the efforts to the moisture of the falls or more swamp. If he doesn't have a way, give your drawings to me and gods willing, I'll fly them down when we leave this place.

Another day
================
The Barracks
===============
Drazan finds himself in what was once the barracks on one of his curious explorations, or as others might call it, 'on patrol.' He is not alone, as no guard ever is unless in the thick of the flight. The young man with him is barely older than Fulton, green with inexperience, but very motivated even in spite of everything that has happened up to now. The beds remind Drazan on his arena days, between the training and the fights. The stale old air of barracks is overpowered with the scent of memory as he breathes deep, an effort to bottle the fear that competitors might come for him in his sleep to maim or ensure a permanent sleep.

Drazan recalls not being any better, and as he begins to explore the barracks he thinks on all the clever places he learned and used to hide weapons and contraband. A hollowed frame or post, a false tile, and something placed up high out of obvious reach were necessary for survival. The men and women that used to live here may not have had a need for hideaways for survival, though perhaps there were things of value or leisure that were worth guarding away from their superiors.

mechanics:

Gladitor: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

The Shield room
===============
The vaults of the Shield room were on Drazan's list of places to see, because he had never seen such a thing. Things of value and worth were protected by flesh and the threat of violence, not thick walls and doors of stone. The futility these ancestors must have felt when someone with Oios's powers or Drazan's earthen form simply walked past their designs as easily as Drazan walks through their abandoned homes now.

mechanics:

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

The Forge and Smithy
==============
Since first seeing the pictures come to life from the book he strives to learn alongside Fulton, Drazan revisited the forge in his dreams. The thought of strange metals melded into any shape imaginable, like the jewelry or the massive doors in this forgotten hold, begged to be discovered. The First Flame would be too powerful with an army of metal weapons, Drazan thought to himself as he started looking for a way to understand and utilize the tools here. If there was nothing to gain here Drazan would vandalize and destroy its usefulness so the First Flame would not reap the reward for the Flight's efforts.

The Funeral
==================
Radag is stoic, in his broad slouched posture, for the funeral. He mutters quietly to himself something like, How insignificant this moment must seem when compared to the rest of eternity. Lady of Judgement, see Brogol safely to the beginning of his forever. May the guardians ward the witches and demons that would take his soul. Praise his spirit but please see his body stays in the hole.

As Karras makes his entrance and speech, Radag's mouth crooks open in disbelief, Who's this guy anyway?

==================
Lorrimor Manor
==================
Radag scoffs at mention of Pharasma's defiance, but otherwise is at ease with crossing his arms and watching the new guy and Aduard converse. With heavy sarcasm Radag thinks to himself, Great... two of them.

As Aduard wielded his words, Radag cracked his crooked smile and crossed his arms. The part about Radag being an undead hunter sounded pretty nice. The title felt right, given the reasons he landed in this forsaken country to begin with. Though the part about letting the leaders of the town have the opportunity to reap the rewards for all the Professor's work and the party's efforts, that didn't sit well with Radag. His crooked smile faded to a glower. A secret desire, begging for the Councillor to doing something brash and undeniably stupid formed in Radag's head.

Wordless in the long moment in the wake of the death throes of the Splatterman, Radag stares at Brogol in his final gasping breaths, desperate disbelief filling his mind. As the half-orc's eyes slide closed for the last time, Radag's jaw clicks shut and his eyes flick up into a narrowed glare toward Aduard. A shadowing rage rolls over Radag's impressive stature, pulling him into a sick slouch as the others crowd around the departed Brogol. A generous choice. Drazan says in his native tongue, spinning the Axe head of Bane in the idle wait before a response. Because you lot are nameless and willing to earn repentance, you'll have weapons and you're up front until we return to this point. Should you have any thoughts on taking action against your sworn oaths or us... Just remember to not lose your heads.

Drazan kneels to unsling or unpack his spear, branch, and one of his kukris and distributes the three randomly. Spear. Branch. Kukri. Now up front with you.

Drazan's clenches his jaw at the sound the Goat-horns sharp tongue,
You do not show respect to those that have you at their mercy, call him 'old man,' and then lie about guarantees! There are guarantees in this world. Let me show you. Drazan glances back over his shoulder at his companions, a familiar rage in his eyes, before he lets out a deep angry growl along with a sudden swift swing as Bane goes up and back down ending through Goat-horns neck the sound of his head punctuating the sudden violence.

I am rage, Drazan says stepping up so that he can see the eyes of the next prisoner. Forged in the fire of Peklenc, tempered into a fierce anger, you three will call me Master. You'll choose to be another cinder that fuels my flame in either life or in death. What will it be

Mechanics:

A zombie knocked down the door and then knocked down Dashil. Then I nearly cut it in two, but magic chains with a bunch of holy symbols started constricting Dashil in nasty ways. Brogol's and Esta's quick thinking saved Dashil from being pressed or decapitated. They doused her in bodily fluids and splashed a little water on her, on account of the smell, before Dash woke up. Then you decided to join us in your pajamas. Radag says as he finishes with a grand flop into a chair, propping his feet up on a overstuffed pillow top stool. Radag's eyes clearly fight the urge to close, though a yawn still escapes him.

Drazan stumbles back as the Nargun slugs on. The Narguns' defenses were too absolute, and their numbers too many. Drazan began to see a halo of stars around his vision, the fight was leaving him. The flight, a failure. The divine flame in Drazan's soul dimmed, inevitably of death had come, and Drazan closed his eyes so that he could draw on whatever energy he had left. In the moment where others say your life flashes before you, Drazan saw Rigel just as she was the moment he cut her down.

When he opened his eyes, the Nargun were lumbering away and the stars faded from his sight with Nat's magic. With the renewed energy and the opportunity, Drazan covered Imix and Istiel's withdraw into the tower.

A lot of fluff! Feh! Listen up Esta. Our late associate and friend Professor Petros was killed by cultists known as the Whispering Way because he had got too close to uncovering their plot to steal a spirit in the prison here. Enter you and us, outsiders in a small, haunted, paranoid town where murder ghost energy is spoiling any light or hope for these people. We are here because it was Petros's dying wish that we look out for his daughter for a time until the issues of his estate are settled. So while we wait we are trying to right the damage the cultists have done, exact some vengence, and make it through the nights with our souls still affixed to our breathing bodies. The people here can feel something bad coming and all they see different is a bunch of armed weirdos running back and forth to and from the prison, graveyards, and talking to hobos and crazy people. There isn't anything to this.

When the decision is final, Drazan nods trying to hide an concern for voluntarily having put himself into a position he might not come back from. Let me know when the charges are ready. I will need a minute to prepare.

While the final preparations are made Drazan moves out from the Shadeholme flight to sit alone. While mentally preparing himself he pauses and for the first time preys to the divine power that he has so readily been relying on over the last few weeks. Desaparate times, I know. Why else would I be here and in this situation. I don't know who or what you are, and honestly I am afraid to know; even the slightest amount of your power is extreme, but before I do what we must do to see the flight survive, I wanted to thank you. Intent is one thing, but action is another. You've made this journey from Shadeholme possible, and if my sacrifice further heeds your will, these people will have what they need; a chance.

Should these be my last moments, I hope that I have served well. This isn't what I expected to be my last stand, but seeing that even Rigel and the Demon hadn't dive me in, I suppose it has to be something.

Look after these people. Several of them have my promises of protection and, if it is something you do, I would ask you to guide them further along the path that I have begun. Let the fire guide me. Let the fire transform me. Let the fire purify me. Let the fire consume me.

Then with a clap of his hands on his thighs, Drazan heaves a heavy sigh before getting up and returning to the flight to prepare blowing himself up for the greater good.

In preparation for this suicidal venture, Drazan will transform into a fire elemental with lycanthropic hide, then cast vitality on himself, before raging and then lighting the explosive.

Desna 4
-----------
Rising from the river, Drazan places Bane back in its sling, where it still pulsed with the maiming magic that it metted out just moments ago to the hungry river eel. A few gasping breaths to shake the unsettling feeling of breathing air again as his form returned to the humanoid and birth given form, were all that Drazan needed before looking for the bulk of the crowd and heading back to see what the extent of the tragedy had been.

As Drazan slogged through the river bank to rejoin the masses, he could still feel the buzz in the air, although this time it was a gut feeling instead of an electric eel's presence. Oios's strong voice was the first thing to come into focus, and when the words made it over the bridge of faint chatter to commanding ton, Drazan knew what this was about, even before Rock's name was called out. Drazan hastefully pressed his way into and through the crowd, eager to see what might have happened to his most recent ally, and he was pleased to find Rock unharmed, or at least physically. Looking over to find Gent, Drazan wasn't surprised at the matter of issue in the least. Gent, and the others like him, were the reason Drazan had kept Rock so close. Hateful people, with nothing but misguided hearts on who their true enemies were, lashed out at every perceived slight and opportunity. They were not good people, and their only saving grace was that they were weak and too afraid to take things as far as physical confrontation. Though one always had to keep an eye on them because if their fear grew large enough, their fear turned to courage was dangerous.

Stepping out from the crowd, Drazan joined Rock's side, We survive this together, or not at all. Drazan shouted to the crowd. Shadeholme's enemies are many. The First Flame, the barbarians of the Fire Peaks, the mountain tribes, giant eels, wyverns, and monsters that will wear your skin as soon as they would eat it. Even the very land you walk on throws obstacles in our way. We don't need more enemies to poison and fight us from within. We don't need more hate or misery especially toward those that have proven themselves by selflessly saving another's life. It's up to all of us to survive, because we either survive together... or not at all. Drazan emphasizes but grabbing Rock's shoulder to show unity, and then a long hard look at Gent, the true outsider.

Drazan:

With divine power spilling through him and granting Drazan powers that were once reserved for only priests of the old goods, the river was no different than running over rugged terrain. Even with the new physical form, being underwater and many lives at stake, for Drazan in that moment, staying focused was the most difficult. Drazan's rage was nearing boiling, and keeping it at bay was a constant effort. For a moment while spearing through the waters, Drazan wished there was something to strangle.

But then, in an ironic twist, the two trees came into view, or at least it looked like two trees. The Shadeholmers barreling towards the massive trunk of the stuck tree spelled life threatening if not lethal injury depending on how often the two kept up on their swimming; which was unlikely any at all. The second tree crept into view a bit more subtly as it looked like any other tree riding the currents, but then it changed direction sharply and against the rivers run. A second glance revealed the massive predator and eel fixing in on Imix as he pressed his bizarre magical beasts across the surface of the water.

A lot of things crossed Drazan's mind at that moment, but one nagging memory stood out the most; Imix's statement about re-establishing slavery if he, the Suriname wished it. This lingering memory squelched any second thought of running to aid the Suriname Imix. Besides, two people were definitely going to die if unaided and Imix stood the greatest odds of surviving a close call with the monstrosity long enough for the others to lend their assistance, and by then he might have had enough time to prevent Imix from being eviscerated completely. Shadeholme still had need of his creepy conjugations after all.

With that, Drazan threw out an honest attempt to at least warn the brazen Imix, Watch out behind you in the water! though he didn't waste any time trying to reach the two drowning people.

Drazan:

Thinking only a few moments before settling on the plan of dealing with the unknown group shadowing Sarre before returning to retrieve a goat wrangler, Drazan joins the Shadeholme warriors.

Drazan's eyes sharpen into anger when he recognizes Adham. The way Adham had glared at Rigel was one of the moments Drazan drew on for his bloodrage. The mere fact Drazan did not fly into his battle rage proved his training was incomplete. Stepping in front of Sarre and the others, Bane locked in both hands, Drazan's nostrils flair with heavy breaths, The Shadeholme you knew is no more. Your excising has handed it to the First Flame so do not confuse us with a Shadeholme that respects your position or fears the weight of your laws. Do not think the transgression you were involved in has been forgiven or will be tolerated without proof that you do not wish to do further harm. Drazan's tone turns from cold war to outright aggression. Try to order Captain Sarre again, and I will put you in a gore filled hole filled up to your eyes with your entrails and wet, slapping skin. What do you want Adham Dennet of Piney-Bluff and man that has made the mistake of calling me Frozen not once, but twice? Refuse answering me, and even before your soldiers get here, I'll cut you asunder, and they will not be able to find all the pieces of your head scattered on the wilderness floor.

Mechanics:

Focus was not Drazan's strong point, and between the task of scouting ahead and plotting the path through the wilds and the feeling those undead left lingering behind in place of where his inner soul must have been originally, being watchful like a hawk was far from the forefront of his mind. It was only an hour or two before Drazan surrendered the idea of moving as beautifully silent and shadowy as Istiel, and instead opted to stand up like a tree in middle of a grass covered plain, and simply walk along. In his head he justified the tactic, If there is danger here, it will attack and reveal itself. If there are watchful eyes, then let them watch. If danger is too great, it is likely not hiding and we will see it before it sees us; giving us a chance to go around or prepare an advantage.

Resting was not as often as he would have liked, but when the moments came, Drazan forced himself to embrace the reprieve in spite of the missing piece of him. At least the building heat of the sun did nothing to accelerate the rate of his exhaustion.

A woman sits with a fine glass of wine in one hand, which she casually wields more so than drinks, as she directs a quill to write, merely by pointing, on a stack of papers in front of her. She has a tense chiseled, yet feminine face with a look of deserving and stature about her. Her shaven head reveals strange looking tattoos that continue down her back. She is tall and almost unnaturally thin and wears a cold colored lipstick and dark mascara. A holy symbol represented by a mask dangles from her neck provocatively. Next to her, is an oversized tiger with white fur that seems to have his own stack of papers and a quill in front of him for some reason, though it is hard to suppose why since the tiger is more content resting on his back in the rays of sun coming through the nearby window.

Drazan:

Drazan is slow and steady as he regards his company before turning to head in the direction of the guards bidding. This shouldn't be long. Hopefully he's already had his dinner. Drazan says and smiles halfheartedly.

As Drazan walks into Misery Alley to meet the overgrown wolf, he stops several strides from Mother Hunger before starting, I'm here for more than words, Hunger. I wish to make a deal, and for what is at stake, I see it as an even trade. My future, however short and insignificant next to your lifetimes, is going to mean something to more than only myself, but in order to do what must be done, I need a way to translate your language into one of my own. In exchange for a way to learn your written language, you will have something with just as much promise. I will send word to you on anything I find in my travels that might interest you, especially that which concerns your people. That could start today with where this axe came from. If your key to your language is true to every word, more in the coming days. Drazan draws his axe, gripping it in both hands. While he is honest about this deal and the axe appears to be used as a prop to emphasize his bargain, Drazan has been too long in the company of savages that would sooner use force as their leverage for immediate gains, over long time benefits, and Drazan didn't trust Hunger more than he might have to. We need not pretend that we like each other. It is clear our kind is nothing more than short lived pests with little purpose beyond food. That and you insist on cute babe names that would spark battle with a compensating ego. But if the Shadeholmers can find an ally on the grounds of a common distaste for the Mountain tribes and the First Flame with you, then I can see the potential in us helping each other.

Drazan pauses to hear Hunger's reply.
