I am planning a new game/campaign in the Forgotten Realms and would love to run my players through Hollows Last Hope and continue on into the Kobold King saga.
But, I love the Realms (call me whatever you want) - at least MY version of the Realms and I want to place Darkmoon Vale somewhere in the Realms.

So, I asking for advice > give me some locales where the Vale would be a good fit in the Forgotten Realms.

Thanks!

Cleaning out my shelves and basically dropping Pathfinder > returning to my 1E and 2E roots > listed a bunch of nice items for sale over on Dragonsfoot.

Possibility of running this AP in 2012, but I have none of the mags or PDF's. Would be willing to purchase or trade for them if someone is willing to sell. Thanks a bunch - happy holidays!

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

It begins as a rumor, a fairy tale. In the ghettos of an unforgiving city, a child of an ethnic minority—unpopular even in his homeland—hears tales of a city without judgment. In the glow of a burning palace, a disgraced noble begs his advisors for a place to disappear.
In the dank mud of the forest, hiding from the guard’s hounds, thieves whisper of a city without laws, without sanctions or pursuit.
This is always the way.
They come, alone or in caravans, to the foot of the great cliff and stare up at the city walls above, eight stories tall and broken by a thousand doors and windows. They pass through the gateless tangle of beggars and schemers and emerge into a city of contrasts: perpetual twilight inside
its hollow, sheltering walls, the endless noise of crowds and hawkers at its center. They enter—the pilgrims and refugees, fugitives and opportunists—and are seen, and
are just as quickly forgotten. As one, they are enveloped and disappear, vanishing into the patchwork populace and melding with it—just a few more faces in a city that long since quit noticing them.
A city of outcasts. A city of strangers.
Welcome to Kaer Maga.

The first thing a traveler to Kaer Maga sees is the cliff. Towering 3,000 feet high in places and never dipping below a thousand, carved with the faces and forms of vanished kings and gods]/i] (see pic here: Kaer Maga, [i]the Storval Rise neatly bisects the frontier land of Varisia along a massive tectonic fault line, separating the lush lowlands of the coast from the arid and pitiless badlands of the Storval Plateau. Stark and forbidding, these rocky bluffs are unclimbable by all but the most daring, leading those who seek passage out of the civilized lands to ascend carefully along the edge of the Yondabakari River, which cuts a channel through the stone, or else to turn north and head straight for Kaer Maga itself, hoping to brave the legendary Half light Path.

From a distance, Kaer Maga appears to be an enormous outcropping of gleaming, white stone extending straight up from the cliff ’s edge, its 80-foot-high walls forming a seamless, six-sided ring and its squared-off skyline broken only by a cluster of towers and minarets at the south end. Upon closer inspection, however, the great walls are revealed to be riddled with holes at every level, doors and windows carved by its residents. From these random entrances hang knotted ropes and ladders, cargo nets and winch-operated dumbwaiters, which residents use to come and go without a second thought—even children swing stories above the ground and scamper carelessly across makeshift landings. While several gated entrances at ground level are big enough for carts to pass through unhindered, most newcomers enter through a vast break in the walls where some unknown force shattered the stone in ages past. And within this breach, generations of Kaer Maga’s poorest residents have made their homes in the most literal sense. A high rise of wooden scaffolding and temporary structures towers almost as tall as the walls themselves, shack on top of shanty in a hodgepodge of scaffolding and scrap lumber its interior a maze known only to its inhabitants who live arboreally on planks and nets in a shantytown of vast proportions. This is the Warren.

Brankh's Intro:
The last thing Brankh expected when arriving in Kaer Maga was for Nehruha, his mentor, to collapse and die before he could save him. And now he was truly in a city of strangers, as the city is often called beyond its walls, and their faces stared at him as he lifted his mentor from the ground.
They had arrived at Kaer Maga only a few hours before, entering the city through a large hole in the northwestern wall. Ramshackle buildings surrounded the gap on both sides of the wall, but leaving a wide lane for newcomers, wagons, and whoever or whatever else ventured into the perpetual twilight of the city. Almost immediately, Brankh and his mentor were accosted by adults and children alike, calling out for their services, will to guide them anywhere they wanted to go in the city...for a fee, of course.
Nehruha had hired a filthy child who went by the name of Yap...a fitting name considering the child (Brankh couldn’t tell if it was a boy or a girl for all the dirt and patchwork clothing) never stopped talking as he/she led them along the crowded streets.
It was near a loud, smelly marketplace, one of the few places in the city, the child had said, that was open to the outside air, that Nehruha stopped to rest. When Brankh asked if he was ill, the elderly man waved him off with a frown and asked the boy to fetch him something to drink. Brankh watched as droves of all sorts of people hawked and sold everything from cattle, to strange animals, to actual slaves of all races. He was particularly interested when a pair of Half-Orcs arrived dragging at least a half-dozen human children in chains along behind them, their wrists, legs, and necks wrapped in thick chains.
Brankh felt the heat rise in his blood and turned to his mentor to say something, when the old man suddenly grasped his left arm, rolled his eyes back in his head, and collapsed. Despite Brankh’s best efforts, he couldn’t revive the man...and just when that realization hit him, Yap returned with a full wineskin in one hand and some cheese in the other.
“By the dead! What happened?” he asked.
Brankh explained and then lifted his mentor in his arms and hoisted the man gently over his left shoulder. And then Yap said, “So now whatcha gonna do with him? I can take you to Heaven's Ladder, or better yet, I know a man in Ankar-Te who might give you some coin for his body...if you’re interested.” Yap smiles and takes a bite of the cheese.

Alanthian's Intro:
Alanthian had only been in Kaer Maga for an hour or two, but he already knew that if he didn’t watch his step, he would never leave the city alive. Since entering the gap in the wall, he had seen three fights, a man stabbed to death by three Halflings, a wagon of slaves, and a man with a horse and cart bearing no fewer than a dozen dead bodies! He had avoided the beggars, hagglers, and filthy children who seemed to be waiting for newcomers to the city, and had made his way deeper into the city’s core, passing from the weirdness of perpetual twilight into a large open air market.
The Society had sent him to Kaer Maga to search for a rare tome of the Pharasmin faith, having heard that the church in the city might need some help with a peculiar problem that had been plaguing them of late. Alanthian didn’t know the extent of that problem, but he was willing to undertake just about anything to prove himself worthy to be a member of the Society. That, and he hoped to find some clues about his brother hereabouts.
His wandering leads him to a natural lake near the middle of the city, bordering several districts. On the lake is an amphitheater where he imagines speakers and performers use it as a stage for their shows. Not too far away is a large totem-like pole, easily seen from just about anywhere near the lake. Interestingly enough, the post has messages either written on it or tacked to it. He begins to look over them, chuckling at some, and gawking at some of the more erotic ones. But then...tucked in behind a large poster announcing tonight’s performance at the amphitheater, he spies a yellow folded note. On it is written his name!
His throat goes dry as he removes the note and stares at his name...written in a script he knows well. Swallowing hard, his heart pounding in his head, Alanthian opens the note and begins to read:

Brother - if you are reading this note, then you have found me...well, almost found me. We have much to work out, much you do not understand. I have a room in the city at The Sorry...

The note is suddenly snatched out of Alanthian’s hand and he looks up to see a young man dart away and stop near a trio of toughs, arms crossed, grinning and looking ready for a fight. Three are human, including the one who snatched his note, but the fourth definitely has elven blood in him. “Nice blade you got there, mate,” says the half-elven man, grinning, his fingers tapping the hilt of a long knife at his belt. “Tell you what, we’ll trade you - the note for the blade. How about that?”

That's all I got for tonight...intros for Cole and Saorise and hopefully Thorin and Dr. Eyesquint tomorrow. The intros aren't secret so feel free to read them if you want. Here we go!

Alright folks - here is the official OOC thread for our game. Please keep all out of character talk, questions, complaints, bribes, threats, and announcements here for the group. Visitors welcome too!

Don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this question, but I'm wanting to know where/how to host gaming maps if I run a game here at Paizo? I'm used to running email games or pbp's that allow you to post a map directly into the forum - don't know much about posting maps on host sites. So, any help/advice is appreciated.

No one knows who carved the cyclopean faces that perch on the cliffs below the city of Kaer Maga, gazing sternly upon the lands of Varisian below. Some say these visages depict the legendary Runelords of Thassilon, while others claim they represent deities far more ancient than the upstart gods of modern Avistan. Their depths are still unplumbed, their mystery still unsolved, for when you venture inside the mouth of a god, who knows what you might find?

Howdy folks and an early Happy New Year to everyone!
I am looking for 2-4 mature players for an adventure set in Kaer Maga, the City of Strangers. I currently have two (2) committed players and three (3) players who have yet to commit.

Game stuff you need to know:
1/ Pathfinder Rules - Core and Advanced Player's Guide - I will also consider other guides if you have a link or can post me the info on some specific trait or feat, etc.

2/ PC's are "monster" races and you have many to choose from: any of the Goblinoid races, and suitable monster PC's with no more than CR 2. Currently, the two players are running a Drow Necromancer and a Halfling Wererat Rogue. For character creation, use a 30-pt buy, max HP at first level, average gold, and one (1) magic item worth no more than 2000 gp. Sound good?

3/ This is an EMAIL pbp game. I might create a discussion thread on here, but the majority of the game will be via email. Email allows me to attach group posts, files, pics, maps, music, etc. If you have Gmail, you're set to go.

4/ Posting frequency will be 2-3 group posts a week. This will not be a fast-paced game. Most of us have jobs and families, so I don't expect players to be "plugged in" every minute and post every day or multiple times a day. Post when you can, at least twice a week, and we'll go from there.

5/ This game will be rated "R" - so I would like an age statement with your character submission; I am looking for mature players, age 21 and over, who will not be offended by an occasional sentence or three of vulgarity or a graphic pic used for game flavor. All of my players are in their mid-30's, with a couple of us pushing (ahem) fifty. No adolescents please!

6/ I am a rules-lite DM - meaning, the rules are guidelines and if they need to be bent to move the game along or to make it a bit more fun, so be it! No rules lawyers need apply! I'm an old-timer, been gaming/DMing since '83 in college. I've ran numerous 1E-3.5E games, but this is my first Pathfinder game as a DM, so I'm excitedly nervous! Ha!

I'm sure there's a few things I'm forgetting, and if they come to me I'll post 'em here. Ask any questions you wish and good luck. You can submit your characters here or send me an email: yankmychain@gmail.com
Here's a little bit more about the adventure that I'll leave you to think about:

Deep below the anarchic city of Kaer Maga, someone—or some thing—has begun stealing corpses from the city’s most prestigious tomb, the Godsmouth Ossuary. Fearing the worst, the clerics of Pharasma in charge of maintaining the crypts quietly call for aid, not wanting to risk their own members in combating whatever horrors may have crept in from the tunnels and hidden chambers of the legendary Undercity. Yet when the PCs venture below the closed-off sections of the crypt, what they
find may be more than they bargained for.

Beginning a new campaign with "monsters" as characters for my players. Currently, we have a halfling wererat rogue, a duergar fighter (maybe cleric), a half-dragon fighter(maybe dragonborn), a half-janni cleric, and a drow necromancer.

My question is this: which Skill/Feat lists should I use? The one for the character or the one for the monster race? Or both? Rogues begin with 8 + Intelligence modifier in Skills, but a wererat comes with ranks in some pre-set Skills too. So...which do I use? Same goes for the other characters.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Don't know if this is the appropriate place for this question - if not, please move it to it's proper location.

Seriously considering a Pathfinder Modules Ongoing Subscription starting with The Godsmouth Heresy. I've looked ahead and I think I can work the next 3-4 modules into my campaign. My questions are:
1/ How much is normal shipping? I can't seem to find that in the store info.
2/ If I wanted to put my subscription "on hold" for a period of time, say, through the summer, or to avoid a handful of modules projected for future release, is that possible? How does that work?

Thanks and good gaming!

The Drunderry River runs narrow and fast through much of its course before tumbling into the lowlands beneath the Fallow Hills. From there, the river spreads out across fertile plains, laboring slowly to the south before emptying into the Elmarsh Lake. Until recently this area was unsettled. The writ of the King of Outremere has changed all this. Several small villages, thorpes, and farming communities have been settled in this region since the King's permission was granted. The village of Malforten, nestled along the banks of the Drunderry River near the Fallow Hills, is just such a place.

The people of Malforten are few in number, but sturdy folk with many a stout heart amongst them. Knowing they were settling at the eastern edges of the kingdoms of Outremere and far from help if ever there was need, those who came here were of the uncommon and daring type. Lacking support otherwise, the people of Malforten have banded together and fought off many a wild beast, bandit, and raiding goblin. They even managed to defeat a marauding band of ogres before it lay waste to surrounding farms. They are proud of their independence from the Lords of Outremere and their capacity to care for their own. This is why they consider their current position with not a little embarrassment.

Recently, Malforten has come under a more dire and grievous threat than ever before. A vicious gnoll warrior, Gritznak the Bold, has come to the Fallow Hills and taken up residence in an abandoned temple. From here, his band of raiders has encroached every more often upon the steads of Malforten, taking cattle, grain stores, and stealing away a few residents for slaves...or worse.

The men of Malforten have failed to locate, trap, or capture Gritznak, and each failure has emboldened Gritznak to greater depredations, culminating with this coming to Malforten and demanding tribute. At their wits end, the leaders of Malforten called upon the Lords of Outremere for knights and soldiery to help defeat Gritznak the Bold (as they are duty bound to supply). However, the delegates from Malforten were rebuffed and their request for soldiery denied, as the wars to the west and south have consumed most of Outremere's western warriors. However, to minimally meet their obligations, several Lords of Outremere have offered a bounty to any who might bring an end to the depredations of Gritznak the Bold.

Greetings fellow gamers! My name is Gary and I am recruiting players to demo an adventure for Castles & Crusades - a role-playing D&D system published by Troll Lord Games. If you have never played D&D before or if you are an "old timer" (like myself) who longs for the days of simple gaming without a plethora of charts and tables, then you will really enjoy Castles & Crusades (C&C).

I am looking for 4-6 "adult" players (no kids or teens please) - each player will receive a free copy of the basic rules that they can keep! The rules are very straight forward and you if are familiar with any edition of D&D, you won't have any difficulty understanding the C&C system.

The demo will run on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Cape Fear Games in Wilmington, NC, starting promptly at 2:00 pm. That should give us up to four hours to create characters and complete the adventure. At the end of the adventure, all of the players (and myself) will vote for the best gamer of the night and that person will receive a new copy of the Castles & Crusades Players Handbook!

The first six people to respond with a commitment of interest will be in the demo; after that, I will keep an alternate list in case any of the first six are unable to show on the 29th. Please post your intent to play in this thread and include your first name and age. It's gonna be a lot of fun and might lead into a monthly gaming group. You can commit here or over at the Cape Fear Games forum here: http://forums.capefeargames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=233

So...recruitment is now OPEN!!

Reynolds, Vic Wertz, and several more! Asking what I paid for it, $50.00

3.5 Sandstorm - brand new, never used, just a few scuff marks from being on the shelf. Asking $10.00

Please email me (Gary) at yankmychain@gmail.com with any questions or offers - first come, first served. I prefer not to ship outside the United States, but will consider it for international gamers. Shipping costs will vary - inside the U.S. media rate will be about 4 bucks; priority about 5 bucks for one of the regular hardcovers; for two or more it will depend on weight and your zip code. The Pathfinder RPG book is heavy!
Looking forward to hearing from you - happy holidays!

Howdy fellow gamers! I need some help. I'm going to Gen Con and had plans on rooming with a friend but just found out that it might not work out for this year.
So...I'm in a pickle! I would be very glad to share any room space in the city and pay a share of the cost. I'm happy to sleep on a cot or on the floor (with a blanket of course! LOL!). I don't snore (at least that's what my wife says!) and I don't smoke.
I will arrive in town on Wednesday, Aug. 12 around 4:00 pm and leave out early Sunday morning.
If you need an extra roomie to help split the cost, please drop me a PM or email me at yankmychain@gmail.com.
Thanks.

(And admins, if this is in the wrong thread, please move it to the appropriate one, okay? Thanks.)

Howdy folks - just wanted to let all my fellow gamers know that I started 22 auctions tonight (Sunday, March 22) on eBay. The auctions include mostly d20 items including modules, sourcebooks, and accessories.
And I listed two Open Design adventures written by Wolfgang Baur! These are patron projects and are not available to the general public, so this is an excellent opportunity to get them.
My eBay username is garyfran - these auctions end next Sunday evening, April 5.
Peace!

Okay, here's the current situation: players are in chapter four at the beginning of the Battle of Brindol. They began the game with seven players/characters and are now down to four. All are either 7th or 8th level. And all are getting tired of this game (at least from what I can tell from our posts - this is a pbp game that has been running for well over a year); even the DM (me) is getting tired and looking forward to the end.
My dilemma: I want the game to end at the Battle of Brindol, NOT at the Fane of Tiamat where the PC's battle Azurr Kul where the Aspect of Tiamat is released upon the world. I want the game to end at Brindol. And yet I don't know how to do that without a complete TPK and ruining the game for everyone. You know what I mean?
I'm going to run chapter four pretty much as it is laid out in the module but where do I bring in Kul and his minions from the Fane? Or do I even use him as the final encounter?
Perhaps the Fane of Tiamat is located underneath the Cathedral of Pelor? Perhaps the PC's only need to stop the horde and forget about Kul?
And on and on I could ramble - but the point is, I am torn as to what to do and how to wrap this game up with some satisfaction.
Thus...I turn to the Paizo community for help, Help, HELP!
(I'll check back in on this thread in the mornings and evenings - my work blocks this site - freakin' tech mother......)
Thanks in advance!
