I'd like tha paths to stop even earlier. Like at 12th level.

Damn. Not posting in that thread was the best idea I had all week.

I wanted to post a complaint on the WotC boards about both the Save My Game article and the Confessions article, but they've changed their login procedure for the messageboards and my old info doesn't work. Maybe they don't want us complaining.
When you try to log in, you should see a link that says something like "migrate my account.". Click that. They are moving everything to *shudder* gleemax.
Thanks for the info. Although now I'm debating whether I really want access to those messageboards.

Don't do it man. You'll only make yourself upset for nothing. Let it go. I'm as fed up as you are. But it's best to just let it go.

Whatever. The Nobel peace prize has been pretty meaningless ever since they awarded one to Yasir Arafat.

I have not weighed in much on any of these 4e topics, but this post in the "Save my Game!" article regarding player cheating in the new online Dungeon (no italics for the word "Dungeon" anymore, they haven't earned the right) has compelled me to post:

Yeah, that article pushed my buttons too.

My favorite part is where he makes fun of people who prefer rolling stats to point buy. Ha HA! Take that you Gygax loving Grognard losers!

It's not Kim's fault. He was just a guest speaker. Granted, that was really really really bad. But it ain't Kim Mohan's fault.

Can you guys name an area of Golarion that you don't plan on extensively developing?

I like designing areas myself. I also like Pathfinder. If you guys could tell me which location you didn't have plans for it'd be cooly-smoove. That way I could indulge my world building instincts, run Pathfinder, and not have to worry about continuity gaps and suchlike at the same time. How great would that be?
Pretty great from where I'm sitting.

I just recently started a new original 3.5 campaign. I plan on running at least 2 more Pathfinder campaigns using 3.5 rules. I think Hasbro is hoping most folks aren't starting new 3.5 campaigns. Them hoping it don't necesarily make it true though

So what worries you about what you've heard so far?

Personally, the stuff that concerns me is mechanical. So, if you guys are switching to 4.0 There's not much you can do about that.

The stuff that specifically sticks in my craw is
1. The elimination of low level play. 1st lvl characters will be more 3rd or 4th lvl characters. I want my characters to resemble badass humans, not Green Lantern.

2. Everyone gets "spells". Previously simple classes like fighter and rogue are now gonna resemble spellcasters mechanically. Again, this seems like Green Lantern syndrome.

3. Something you guys might can fix is the Iconic monsters. Hasbro plans on leaving certain icionic monsters , like the Frost Giant, out of the Monster Manual. The reason they're doing this is to include them in later expansion books. This is supposed to "encourage" Dms to buy even more books in an attempt to get what was in just one book in previous editions. If you guys can include stats for the neglected monsters by using them in adventures, I'd certainly appreciate it.If I convert to the new edition with you guys, I wanna have the option of using all my favorite monsters straight out the gate.

Awesome. Thanks for the link. That's some quality grossness right there.

I was pretty underwhelmed. But , then again, I guess I was kinda biased going into it.
It definitely isn't an acceptable substitute for Dragon, as far as I'm concrned.

Oh come on y'all. That show was funny.
Yes, she made fun of gamers.
She makes fun of everybody.
She made fun of cops, gays, and right wing crazies too. I bet they're not complaining on whatever message boards they go too.
And she showed her friends actually gaming on TV. It was affectionate teasing, not malicious.
Grow a funnybone, people.
Sarah Silverman's not picking on you. If anything, she made gaming seem cool and quirky.
She did "the gaming community" a favor.

Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus. Keep using Kyle the way you been using him. His art is fun and distinctive. It adds a lot to Pathfinder's overall look.
I see Kyle Hunter as sort of Paizo's visual "mascot". (I mean that in a good way.)
Never mind the haters.

FireValkrie's well reasoned insights have really made me rethink the issue. I'm tempted to change my answer from C to B.
Damn, I'm suggestible.

A mime with a baseball bat.
As a mime, in this day and age, if you ain't got a bat you ain't got nothin'.

I'm not a fan of the favored soul either. Maybe it's the wings. Maybe it's the art. I dunno. I just don't like it.

Wow.Those are some concerned and involved (if somewhat uptight and reactionary) teachers. It's annoying you had to go in there and worry. But at least it sounds like your kid goes to a good school. Most schools where I live, the faculty is too worried about kids stabbing each other to bother with what they write on the back of their notebooks.

No way man. Conan'd pull a sword on herpes, and back down syphillis.

I think Paizo already knows when they're making the switch. I don't necesarily think that's a bad thing. Since I already plan on switching editions when Paizo does anyway ( provided 4E doesn't blow donkeychunks) it doesn't matter to me.

But everything's just guessing at this point.

Thanks for the feedback, all.

I didn't make this a poll because I want to know a lot more than just which of the options you're leaning toward. The WHY at this point is as important to me as the WHAT.

[between the lines]...because we are trying to determine how soon to switch [/between the lines]

[insert maniacal laughter here]

I've got a feeling they've already figured out when they're making the switch, but they're gonna wait a little while to announce it. Telling people about it at this point would just rile too many folks up needlessly . People seem awful sensitive about 4E on both sides right now.

I could be wrong, of course.

C.
It's hard to get excited about a system that I (or anybody I know) have never even seen.
Shoot, with the way that WOTC's been less than honest with it's customers, I'm not even sure they're actually working on 4th edition.
I'll believe 4th edition actually exists when I'm holding the books in my hands. Then I'll decide whether or not I'll actually use it.

Damn. My heart goes out to you on this one. Nothing's more scary than knowing your girl is in trouble. And I lived in New York most of my life. It can be a pretty depressing place.
Keep your head up man. New York'll test you, no question. Not that it's any consolation, but you write some kickass D&D modules. I plan on buying the next one you write. (and because they're really good. Not like, out of sympathy or anything.)

Pick a couple of areas. Tell us what they are. Leave em untouched.
Pathfinder is the first non homebrewed setting I've decided to use in 17 years of DMing. That's a pretty big deal for me, changing my DMing style so radically.
Having a couple of areas that I know I can homebrew without complaints from canon lovers... that would be very reassuring to me.

No. You're not the only one.

I'd given up on getting modern stats for the golden gorger.Better late than never, I guess. I too fell in love with it from the ecology article. Funny, I thought I was the only one who remembered that. It really struck a chord with me for some reason.

HBO RSS

As long as the Wire isn't cancelled. Once that show goes, so goes my owning of a television.

Yeah. Seeing that made me feel dirty inside.

The Pathfinder art I've seen so far is great. Really, top notch work. Hou and Reynolds are on point.
But as someone who prefers New Avengers to Pokemon, I can understand the complaints of too much manga influnece. If the art were just a little more manga, It'd be too much for my tastes.

What about Droskar? Why ain't he on the list? Isn't he like, the only god that's been showcased thus far in a released Pathfinder product?

Or am I just tripping here?
Someone correct me if I am in error . . .Droskar is a smaller deity not one of the widely venerated ones. His followers are more cultists than clergy . . . .all that and he may have fallen out of favor, methinks.

You're right. But despite his "lesser" deity status he still seemed pretty cool to me. All Stalinist and unyielding and stuff. I can imagine him sitting on a throne of his workers bones looking all emotionless, while his demented followers work themselves to death all around him. Now that's an evil god I can get behind... he seems very focused on his schtick. You gotta respect that.

That wasn't what I expected.
But, it was what I deserved.

I don't really see it as blackeye for D&D. It's a blackeye for videogames maybe.
I mean,, if these people were playing D&D, an actual human being probably would have come over to their house and reminded these idiots to feed their kid.

Every problem my group has had in the last 2 years has been due to trying to include spouses that are a poor fit for the group.
One husband of a player just wrecked everyone's fun by talking over everyone else and generally being an ass. And one wife of a player made the game's flow slow down so much that our group came to the conclusion she was trying to sabotage the game by being deliberately obtuse.
The problem is no one wants to hear that their spouse is bringing everyone else down. And since they're so close to the source of the problem it's difficult for them to be objective.

It always seems strange to me when people are worried about "obscene" material in D&D.
What's the sense in worrying about language and nudity in a game that's based on killing people and taking their stuff? I'd be more worried about exposing my kids to graphic violence than I'd be worried about my kids reading the word s*$* or possibly seeing the outline of a nipple.
What's gonna give more kids nightmares? The idea of being eviscerated by a Balor, or the word "s#*$"?

I'm all for cussing too. The more gratuitous the better. Just one guy's opinion. One guy who loves cussin'.

bubbagump wrote:

I gotta say it again: I'm a bit concerned. I had planned to run my kids through the Savage Tide until I read about Scuttlecove. Now I hear that you're going to be doing Rob Zombie-esque stuff? Disappointing, to say the least.

One of the few things I miss from the 1e and 2e days is that the details of evil were left vague. Back then it was enough to know the wizard in the tower was a "bad" guy. No one needed to know the details of his crimes. I agree that it'll be good to see what the Paizo folks can do without WOTC requirements, but do we really need to see just how depraved they can be? I know that kind of stuff is popular these days, but give us a break. Not everybody who uses Paizo products is into that kind of thing.

It ain't easy pleasing everybody all the time. And while I can understand this guy's desire to protect his kid's innocence and whatnot, I've gotta say: As a grownup who plays D&D with other grown folks, I hope Pathfinder is more "mature themed" and less G-rated. I'm not saying I'm looking for the book of Erotic Fantasy or anything like that. But at least let your Villains be Villains. My players want to fight Dr. Doom, not Gargamel.

I don't want the evil vaguely defined. If I'm paying money for it, I want my evil to be well defined.I can not define a villain myself for free.

I'm reading anything that's written by Bendis, Millar, Slott,Whedon, or Ellis.
I'm reading anything drawn by Hitch, McNiven, Cassaday, Coipel, Bagley, or Immonen.
This is the best Marvel has ever been, it's the platinum age.

Yeah, I just got back from Spidey 3. Gotta say I loved it. Kirsten Dunst was great as MaryJane. She's so underrated. It's tragic.
