This makes me wonder, will 5e ever make it to be close to what PF is now in terms of options? For March, the projected sales of the PHB are 216 books! The projections for February were right on target.
Not surprising. After the initial boom of new core books released before Christmas, sales are bound to go down.
I'm not sure why they think a minimal release schedule is good for their bottomline.goldomark2015-03-06T17:55:55ZRe: Forums/Paizo: General Discussion: Paizo Blog: Welcome Linda Zayas-Palmer!goldomarkhttps://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo5lh8l?Welcome-Linda-ZayasPalmer#382015-03-06T00:36:01Z2015-03-06T00:36:01Z
Congratulation!

This +2 shortbow (+2 Str bonus) has the hair of a dead woman braided into the string. Against any creature that wounds the wielder, the bow counts as having the bane special ability, which lasts for one hour. The power of the bow comes with a catch, however, as it functions only so long as the wielder refers to it, and only it, as their mother.
TL;DR Summary: The goal was to produce a strongly themed weapon that possesses useful abilities at a price, and remained a prominent accessory to the character wielding it, without overshadowing them.

In hindsight, while I enjoy the concept of 'power at a price', and items with roleplay implications, I appreciate that many players will not, and were likely put off by the rather heavy handed downside.

Sometimes objects not crafted to be weapons nonetheless see use in combat. Because such objects are not designed for this use, any creature that uses an improvised weapon in combat is considered to be nonproficient with it and takes a –4 penalty on attack rolls made with that object. To determine the size category and appropriate damage for an improvised weapon, compare its relative size and damage potential to the weapon list to find a reasonable match. An improvised weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a critical hit.
If I do not use a charge, how much damage does it do? I'm thinking improvised weapon. Maybe 1d6 or 2d6 like a great sword? And the damage should be bludgeoning. Crit on 20?

Should I get the -4 penalty to attack for using it as an improvised weapon? I have the exotic feat to wield the thing and the technique doesn't change much. I do not think I should get the penalty even if it is not supposed to be used like that. The lower damage and crit should be enough.
