There on page 5 is a picture of a Bariaur with little round glasses and the first thing that popped into my head was "Oh there's Fatespinner". Then as I was reading I ot to page 90, the Divine Class Acts and thought "and there's Lady Lena".

Just thought it was an ammusing anecdote =)

I have noticed however that it doesn't work with D&D Minis at all =(

Ultradan

I agree some of them are quite scary, simply because they built the suspense like a good movie should; camera angles, spooky music at the right places, etc...

Reisdent Evil: When the zombie arms burst through the window in the police station that you had walked past a million times before freaked me out big time. As did the dog jumping through the interrogation room mirror... I had been in that room and there was nothing in there. I swear there is a hole in my inlaws roof from when I was playing in the dark in an empty house one night. I seriously had to turn the game off and turn on every light in the house and sit on the lounge with my back against the wall facing the door until someone got home.
[shiver]

Silent Hill: The first baby attck in the alley freaked me out. So did running around in the fog at first, then it just became annoying.

Horror is, without a doubt, my favorite genre. I've been watching horror movies for most of my life, and that means that when you DO hit one that scares you, it's something special. :)

Of course, what scares person A is nothing to person B. So with that in mind, and for what it's worth, here's the movies that scared/frightened/creeped me out the most:

The Scariest of them all:
Se7en
The Blair Witch Project

And now the merely Scary:
Jaws
Evil Dead

I loved Se7en... Lust was my personal "creepiest moment".

The Blair Witch Project was mega scary the first time around (especially after reading the back story) but it was not scary at all the second time.

Jaws scared me too as a kid, although not so much now.
Evil Dead (series) is my second favourite Horror movie (Ash/Bruce Campbell rocks). The first was scary with a bit of humour, the second was a little of column A and a little of column B and the third was more humourous.

See this. This... is my BOOMSTICK!

I saw "The Exorcist" when it was rereleased in the cinemas about 6 or 7 years ago. I was 20 years old at the time and I really didn't find it scary at all. I don't know why that's the case. My Dad saw it when he was a teenager and he had to sleep with the light on for a while after that.

On the other hand, I saw "The Ring" (the American version) a couple of years later. That scared the crap out of me! I had trouble sleeping that night and was a little paranoid around TV's for a bit, especially a week after I watched it. I haven't seen "The Ring 2", although there is a little part of me that still wants to.

As a child I remember watching Steven King's "It" and being quite scared for weeks after. I also watched "Candyman" when I was about 13 and had trouble sleeping at night for a while afterwards. I blame that movie, other horror movies and similar urban myths for my dislike of looking in the mirror with the lights off.

Olaf the Stout

I agree with Olaf about The Ring. It was very creepy and made it hard to sleep that night. It is a once only view however. Before my friend and I saw The Ring 2, we watched The Ring again and it was nowhere near as creepy and neither was the second.

It (omho the most true to story of Stephen King's movie translations)and Candyman both scared me as well (and I made my little sister watch Candyman with me the first time). We both got scared and turned it off after the first scene with the girls.

You know after hearing so much about The Shining I honestly didn't find it that scary. A little creepy in some places, but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be considering it was a combination of King & Kubrick.

My scariest movie isn't really a current movie, but when I was little I saw like 30 seconds of the Werewolf transforming in American Werewolf in London and couldn't sleep properly for months. It scared the crap out of me.

Steve Greer wrote:

When I was about 5 I saw a movie that scared the living crap out of me. Yeah, I was 5, so a lot of things scared the crap out of me. However, I remembered nearly every detail of that movie for over 30 years. I never saw it again from that time until about 2 weeks ago a friend and I were flipping through channels on my TV and I noticed that MOJO was playing it. I thought, "Let's check this out to see how lame it is now that I'm an adult." Guess what? Not lame! Still fricking scary!

Check out Black Christmas when you have a chance. The eye peering out from the crack in the door is just chilling and pretty much the big pay off.

If this movie doesn't make your skin crawl... it's on TOO TIGHT!

Anyone find that as they get older they get more grossed out by intense horror style violence? I mean I'm OK with gunfights, swords, action movie vioence. But movies like Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the stuff I used to laugh at as a teenager just doesn't seem funny any more and I have no desire to watch it.

Oh no, I think I grew some empathy!

Same here! As a teenager there seemed to be some kind of value to the glamor of mindless and deformed death dealers. Years later and I can't stand the pointless terror and death. What happened?! Empathy is indeed a b%~*@.

I like to sit down today and have a good old laugh at modern slasher horror (as opposed to when I was younger and liked to sit down and not move a muscle for an hour and a half at old school slasher horror). What really gets me creepy scared are well done Thrillers. I sat down one day to watch Jeepers Creepers 2, The remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Gothika and you know what... the one that scared me the most was Gothika.

My favourite Horror Movie however is John Carpenter's version of The Thing... LOVE it! Is there any movie that combines John Carpenter and Kurt Russell that isn't pure gold (even though Escape from LA pushes it).

P.S. if any of you are interested, check out Mordum, a movie by August Underground. Toe Tag Pictures
My friend gave me a copy that started with one of the deleted scenes (the one with the girl in the bath) and I was freaked out.

D0 I got a note in the letter box saying I had to pick it up from the Post Office.
D1 however the stupid Postie decided that it would in fact fit into our letterbox (as it has a larger than normal slit). Thankfully the sturdy envelope took the brunt of the bend and I only got a very slight bend in my module.

Which is funny since they call it common sense and you have proven it is far from common.

Dude are you mentally deficient?

Using your bowl theory:
If you look into the bowl BEFORE drawing them out you have 2 balls left. Only after you take one out are you left with one.
This is EXACTLY what James said to you in his original post (way back 6 and one quarter hours ago). It is advertising the fact that there are 2 issues to go, as you haven't actually picked up this issue yet, you are just reading the cover at this point. The cover is telling you that there are 2 issues to go. OK I'll admit once you actually buy the magazine this becomes a little fuzzy, but it has been stated by numerous PAIZO Employees that it's sole purpose is as an advertising machanism prior to purchase.
If you cannot get this through your obviously slightly thickened cranium then I am afraid that maybe you should instead be subscribing to the "Cat in the Hat" series.

Man, PAIZO bend over backwards in the customer service department. For you to be critiquing them over such a trivial issue just goes to show how much of a life you don't have.

Hey guys I was just wondering if there was any talk about doing "extra" Pathfinder or Gamemastery source books?
Sort of along the lines of:
Pathfinder Monster Manual
Races of Varisia
that kind of thing.
I know we will be getting all of that kind of stuff in the actal Pathfinder books, but collected editions or even seperate "new" material would be great.
Also, I know this has been mentioned before, but is there any news yet about Pathfinder Miniatures yet?

OK here are my Faves:

Hobbit/LotR - J.R.R. Tolkien (for obvious reasons)

Empyrion - Stphen Lawhead. Originally 2 Books The Search for Fierra & The Siege of Dome you can only get it now as an Omnibus Edition (much to my extreme dissapointment when I let someone borrow my copies and they moved away with them). I bought these books 15+ years ago with a Sunday School voucher to the Church Bookshop. I had to beg my mother to buy me the second as the voucher only covered the first. Best begging result EVER! =) Empyrion

The Commonwealth Saga - Peter F. Hamilton. 2 books Pandora's Star & Judas Unchained (although there are other books set in this setting. These books are a complex mesh of different characters plots that make you wonder how their storylines will ever connect in the end.
Commonwealth Saga

and I gotta say it at the risk of sounding cheesy

The Drizzt books and subsequent spinoffs - R.A. Salvatore (and other writers for series such as War of the Spider Queen & Daughter of the Drow).

Honourable Mention
The Rama Cycle - Arthur C Clarke (with help from Gentry Lee for the Sequels) The Rama Cycle

The Days of Yor Series - Roy V. Young. Old Skool TSR novels: Captains Outrageous: Or, for Doom the Bell Tolls (1994) &
Yor's Revenge (1995).
Not exceptional, but they just really twigged with me for some reason with their mix of humour & fantasy. I would have liked to have seen 1 more book to round it out into a trilogy, but I can't have that Porsche I want either so I suppose I will live with it.

I live in Australia.

We (my Wife and I) have a Credit Card (Mastercard) and a VISA Debit Card. We use the Credit Card to pay for large purchases (and in a pinch if we get stuck) at a Hard Terminal and use the VISA Debit for any Online purchases. That way if (god forbid) anyone does manage to gain illegal access to our card through internet use they are only getting a couple of hundred dollars max instead of a couple of thousand.
Used properly a VISA Debit is perfect for internet purchases. It is just like a regular bank account, so you put the money into the account straight before you pay for an item and you can use it like a credit card.

Artemis Entreri - The tortured Assassin with the cool name (although oviously too cool since my wife won't let me name any male children we have Artemis) >:(

Dr. Doom - He is just such an Iconic Villain... everything a good Villain should be.

Carnage - In his Maximum Carnage days. There was a Villain that was pure and unadulterated evil... he was a mass murder with nothing more on his mind than slaughtering innocents (although any Heroes that got in the was were fair game) in the times when villains just wanted to rob banks or fight Heroes.

Bosamp the Wizard - from Captain's Outrageous Or, For Doom the Bell Tolls.
and then
Kathy - from it's follow up Yor's Revenge.
2 Great old skool TSR Novels well worth a read if you can pick them up.

If a PC finds a gun it will obviously be non-magical (as stated) but what if he wanted to pay someone to enchant it for him. What possibilities would there be for this? Would anything off the 7-15 Ranged Weapon Special Abilities table in the DMG (and subsequent entries from other sources) be acceptable?
Also, supplies of ammo would be very limited. What would a character need to create their own ammo? Is it sipmply a matter of little balls of metal (ala Muskets, Flintlocks, etc...) or something a bit more complex that would reqire a skill (more like modern day bullets)?

The thing that I think is the most broken about 3.5 is the whole 'favored classes' system. It just doesn't make sense that if you want to play a dwarven wizard / rogue, you get docked XP. Our group doesn't even use the rule.

I agree that there are some aspects of the 'favoured classes' system that are silly, specifically when looking at races from different regions.

Let's look at Eberron's Elves as an example:
Aerenal Elves: These elves can use the standard Wizard 'FC' without any modification as they are a magical society with a focus towards Necromancy.
Valenar Elves: They should have either Fighter or Ranger (or even Barbarian) as their 'FC' as they come from a more martial society that has a large focus on Cavalry.
Khorvaire Elf: Being a generic elf I would say that the Wizard 'FC' should do them fine.
If however you were looking at Dragonmarked Elves (from Phiarlan or Thuranni), then I would consider that either Rogue or Bard would be a better choice for their 'FC'. In saying this though, Wizard would still be an acceptable choice for 'FC', just not the best.
Drow Elves: As a race I think that the Jungle living Drow would be more suited to having Ranger as their 'FC'. With no real female dominated society, there is no need for the split 'FC' of male/female; everyone is treated relatively equally in regards to 'FC'.

Now I know that most of you will simply say to change this to suit your game, but I still think that in terms of Regions or Civilizations that races should have differing 'Favoured Classes' written into their histories and rules. Why should someone playing an Elf from a martial culture where there are virtually no Wizards have Wizard as his 'FC'?

Just my 2c worth on something that has bugged me a bit lately when reading some of the Eberron sourcebooks.

Cheers

<Spoilers>
Before I go on I will clarify that our DM has given us "Fate Points" that we can earn to get a reset if our characters die. We start play with 1 Fate point and can earn them at different points in the adventure.

We have ONLY played Life's Bazaar so far, but my character was killed by the Choker under the stage after I stuck my head down the hole. It decided to grab my head and slam me into the ground acouple of times until I was unconscious and then to slowly constrict me until I died (all the while screaming -5, -6, -7, -8, -9 c'mon guys kill it already).
Apart from that, the Paladin died. The Fighter/Pirate died, was reset and then died again. The Wizard died, was reset and then died again.
So to recap:
Duskblade (me) Died
Paladin Died
Fighter/Pirate Died reset Died
Wizard Died reset Died
Cleric only one to survive.
We did go through a Cure Light Wounds Wand (30ish charges) all the Cleric's Cure Light Wound spells and around half a dozen Potions (one of them cursed from Jazadirune)

It's like setting the level of magic in a campaign, which Paizo is saying will be "mid-magic". It's easier to add elements in than it is to pull them out. If firearms aren't going to be a significant or obtrusive part of the setting, why include them? Individual DMs can add them in as they see fit. Trying to strip them out could be a much larger undertaking for a DM, especially if Pathfinder morphs from a medieval setting to an Age-of-Sail kind of setting.

BPorter

Personally I don't see a problem with guns as part of the setting. Eberron has Cyborgs and trains for frick's sake. It's not like they are that technologically advanced or anything. Most people don't even realize that firearms are a part of the Forgotten Realms also, but that doesn't stop people from buting FR products.

I also don't understand how it is that difficult to "strip" them out of the Campaign Setting. If you don't want to use them there is a simple answer to your problem... don't use them! If an adventure says that someone has a pistol, replace it with a hand/light crossbow or a shortbow. If they have a rifle, replace it with a heavy/repeating crossbow or a longbow. It's really not that difficult.

It also comes down to the availability of guns in the world. If they are expensive/rare, then players may not be able to afford/find them. Also, think about this: A gun takes along time to reload in most D&D rulesets. Any kind of multi-attacks are therfore useless, so you might hit for 1d10 every 2 rounds with your rifle. Mr. Elf over here with his Rapid shooting Longbow has a plethora of 1d8 attacks available to him in that same time frame... who is the more efficient ranged fighter?

Honestly I feel that they are more included for flavour than anything else and I think it's fine. If my players want to use guns then they can use guns... if they don't then they won't. Simple.

As an aside, I REALLY love the look of the 3rd Ed. Blue Dragon, even going so far as to buy the Gargantuan Blue Dragon when I don't even play the Miniatures Game!
My actual favourite Dragon is my own home made Lawful Neutral Great Wyrm Blue Havillandraxus, who worships Astilabor and became a merchant in Hlondeth. He now has a clan of his descendants (the de Havillands) to handle the day to day runnings of the business, an Import/Export Business with Shou Lung. My current character is his Grand-daughter Alessandra de Havilland, a LN Swashbuckler/Dragon Samurai Half-Blue Dragon who dual-wields Shocking Burst Kukris for massses of Criticals =)

My horror story involves the Black Dragon Khisanth (Onyx) from the Dragonlance Saga.
I was running the 2nd Ed. Module DL1 Dragons of Despair, the first part of the Dragonlance series, in which we all had characters and would all take turns DMing a Module, all the way up to DL14 Dragons of Triumph. Khisanth came shooting out of her Well and drops a massive globe of Darkness over the area, strafing back and forth breathing acid on the PC's. We can't see her, but the party's Ranger just starts to blindly fire arrows into the sky after listening very closely to her strafing patterns (he rolled a 20 on the check I gave him). Amazingly, he manages to kill her just before she flys back down the well after her last strafing run! This is the main Villain for the adventure, killed in a mere shake up encounter!
To make matters worse... I then made a decision that she actually had a Mate who was down guarding the Disks of Mishakal, but lo and behold our Rogue makes all of his checks, sneaks into the treasure chamber and Backstabs the Mate, for almost all of his hit points, and make it easy work for the rest of us to rush in and mop him up.
2 major Black Dragon Villains that should have been a really tough fight for the PC's were defeated by the luck of the dice... It broke me as a DM and I have rarely DMed an adventure since =(

My favourite has always been Ranger, ever since I started playing 2nd ed. (Basic Red Box doesn't count). I was especially happy when they did away with the "Good" Alignment Restriction in 3.5. =)
