I think you might have a LOT of work to do - and if any of your players actually read some of the Moonshae Isle stuff of sec.ed. it may be even harder. Moonshae is pretty much "closed" it has its own evils, its own history and its own atmosphere - and i think any messing with it may make it hard to cling to the celtic feeling of the isle. If you decide to do that work - good luck and please let us know how you did it, I would be very much interested, since a celtic flavored savage tide sounds fascinating.
If you rather look for an easy place for the STAP, maybe the Pirate Isles on the southern sword coast (Nelanter I think) fit better - you can even download the Lands of Intrigue Boxed Set for free on WotC Homepage, it doesn't contain to much information about the islands but helps to establish the mood of the setting.

Regarding Kyuss:
Wizards of the Coast: Another elder evil we may have seen something of before, correct? I’m referring to Kyuss, the worm that walks. What led to his inclusion here, and what connection or further development does his appearance have to his adventure path material?

Robert Schwalb: The original outline called for the Worm that Walks, but didn’t make any overt connections to Kyuss. During the initial design, I could have gone another direction, but darn it, I’m a huge fan of the Age of Worms (I’m still running it in fact) and I just couldn’t pass up the chance to pay homage to the great designers, artists, editors, and everyone else at Paizo involved with the production of that campaign.

The Worm that Walks chapter can be used on its own or as a campaign expansion of the Dungeon Magazine adventure series, giving fans who want more Kyuss goodness an opportunity to revisit some of the horrors found in Age of Worms as well as to spark more interest in the storyline and turn more attention to that excellent campaign. This said, it was important for the chapter to stand on its own, so while it deals with many of the themes and challenges of Age of Worms, this chapter allows you to bind it to any setting, any world, and any ongoing campaign.

I just found this on the WotC Homeage...

Feytharn,

Back in older editions (I don't know when you started playing) most poison was the save or die variety.

3.e opened it up to lots of possibilies, primarily ability damage, but delayed the effects over two saves. Still dangerous, not as lethal.

4.e, what we've seen it does straight hit poitns damage. no where near as lethal, especially since healing seems to be so much more abundant.

The in 4.e poison saves vs you! Is a reference to a Yakov Smirnof joke.

I have my own tweak to the 3.5 poison system to make it more effective and lethal. I have players who have rogues/rangers who wouldn't even buy poison with the old rules, not because they didn't want to but because there was such a small chance of it doing anything beyond 6th level or so.

Poison Archlich Style:
[spoiler]
Automatic Effect (1) (2)
The Shivers
Dex based poison damage: -1 to hit and to dexterity based skills
The Aches
Con based poison damage: Temporary -4hp.
The Chills
Str based poison damage: -1 to damage and to strength based skills (jump, swim, climb, etc)
Mind Fog
Int, Wis & Cha based poison damage: -1 to all mental skills. Automatic DC 11 Concentration check needed to cast any spells.

Alternate Secondary Save Effects
The secondary damage kicks in only two rounds later (-1 DC)
The secondary damage is the standard one minute later (same DC)
The secondary damage is an extended damage that takes place for a number of hours doing maximum damage. Equal to (number of dice) x (the dice type) hours later (+1 DC). (3)

Both quickening the secondary effect of the poison and extending the secondary effect requires alchemical treatments that increase the price of the poison by 150%.

To alter a poison to either a quick modified poison or extended modified poison requires a craft (poison) check. The craft (poison) DC is equal to 10 + (poison save DC). The process consumes 25% the base poisons...

Interesting rule - reminds me a bit of the drug rules. I did rise the DC's for the saves myself, as I did for spell effects (all by 5), because in even mediocre levels low level sells and most poisons almost mean no harm for anyone.

Kobolds can't have sugar. We all have goodness-intolerance.

Oh my - now I'm really getting scared that my sugar intolerance (or diabetes as modern healers say) might be related to traces of kobold blood - I really have to check on my family tree...

I didn't catch the joke - reason might be that english isn't my native language. I didn't know about 4.e. Poison doing only hitpoint damage THAT certainly will decrease lethality rating - the attack vs. save (or save vs. you - whatever) system does not.

Oh - I started with 2nd. Ed. but I own my fair share of 1st. ed. Rules and supplements. I for my part was more than happy with the lack of save or die rolls, and I remember many gamers complain about those in 2nd. Ed. or having house rules avoiding them.

Osirion (Pathfinder Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

I'm not sure if I understood this right - but I think the poison / sell makes an attack against your save (same as an attack against your armor class) - I have trouble getting warm with this idea miself. but I don't think it changes anything about the danger/lethality level...

Interesting Scenario - I daresay of all the MD20m Books Urban Arcana would be most useful to you (and might perhaps interest you for its theme D&D Creatures in the modern world).

I ran a test adventure (one of those dowloads at the cortex website) and I really enjoyed it. I plan to ru a short campaign soon. Actually I think the rules are not only simle but also very fitting to the "space western" setting and the plot points definatly helped to get my players to chose not only their perks wisely but also their flaws (playing them out is rewarded by plot points).
To avoid confusion about handing them out I would advise using some kind of handout for them - I used poker chips - and a bowl for the players to throw them in. Since there is a max number for plot points this schould do the trick of keeping track.

Osirion (Pathfinder Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

Thank you all - I think I feel right at home (which is, on second thought kind of sad...)
By all means GIVE THAT DAMN KOBOLD A SUGAR COATED MEAL - I know I start sounding weird when my blood sugar sinks to dangerously low levels...

I actually like it very much - in art because I play a campaign (a heavily modified "shackled city" in the same area, mainly around ravens bluff and amazingly have an unusual orc tribe cooerating with bane in the centre of the action...

well done adventure to this point please kee up the journal.

Osirion (Pathfinder Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

Well - It might not be all shiny - but at least this article about 4th ed. didn't make my eyes bleed, so I guess thats a plus.
As for the "useless" feats - I think they are - at a first glance and without playtesting experience (on my part, I hope these guys at wizards test(ed) them...I really still hope...) better balanced then 3rd ed. variants.
Sied Note: I use perception instead of spot/listen since I feel it's really more a matter of personal alertness then of a specific sense

Osirion (Pathfinder Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

I'd surely buy the Module - I run irregular Star Wars, Babylon 5 and Serenity Games and I'm quite sure it will fit into one of those. While I haven't got HMM yet, I liked CotKK Adventure AND style - so BRING IT ON!!!

Low Wisdom is tricky to play, yet the Idea that a 0 Wisdom brings you to utter madness may bring a solution, at least for a few sessions, combined with great roleplaying opportunities for the pc - put him at the very brink of insanity. The Cthulhu RPG is best for inspiration, so if you or one of your players owns that - take a look into the according chapter. You know the Player and his Character. Try to find something appropriate - from phobias and haunting fears to strange obsessions and fetishes. It could even hang on him after the Wisdom damage ist cured - although to a much lesser degree.
I think one of the old planescae supplements (planes of chaos if i'm not mistaken) has some useful thoughts on insanity in a chapter about pandemonium as well. I schould really not be to hard to find something appropriate. The best about this solution is that it can be of a grim fun (if not to much of the edge) even to the player.

Many Songs I've written
About the Things I saw
My Inner Soul's a wasteland
I can't run away from here
Try to find them
All the Thoughts lost in my mind
I woke up on a hill
So many Times before
Yesterday seems like a dream no more
Frozen memories laughing
They don't let me find the truth
Am I born to be a king
Or a jester of the fools

Would you mind to let us know exactly where in germany you are? I´m just curious. (and perhaps we could manage a "paizo fan meeting" at the next Hannover spielt! for all paizo folks from around here. I plan on attending, perhaps even helping the organizators, as I had years ago.)

Stefan

I'm from Warendorf, near Münster. I'd generally be interested in a pfm at the Hannover spielt - though I can't tell yet if I'm able to attend, but since there is some time left I'll let you know once I can tell. (I'm still sad our local con, the müstik is no more...)

I lurked on this forums for a pretty long time, rarely placing my rant on any topic, but since I intend to partake a bit more I guess the best way is to introduce myself to the other board users,
I play (well, mostly DM) (A)D&D and a few other RPG's for about 17 Years now, enjoying the quality of paizos work for a few years now (more or less since the SCAP) and having recently read the first issue of pathfinder as well as the first few game mastery modules - unfortunatly they took their time to arrive at my local gaming store in germany. I'm glad the high standard is kept, even surpassed. I'm really looking forward to lead my players to Golarion (at the moment I mainly play in the FR setting and at this moment I still enjoy that setting - though I'm not quite sure what to think of the changes to come...).
I'm quite confident that pathfinder will keep me interested even if my faith in D&D crumbles with most anouncements about 4thE. - Mind you, I'm not sure yet that it will suck, but the article about the quest system really shook my remaining faith... - so I guess paizo and pathfinder will start to define my D&D anew.

I guess it takes a native publisher interested enough to bring the product to the native market. Then it deends on this publisher - does it have its own translators, does it depend on freelancer translators to do a localization... There was a time when i was sure one certain german pubisher relied mainly on computerised translations (any player out there remembers terms like "Riesenvettern" (Giant kin) or "watschelnder Komposthaufen" (shambling mound)?
As I never read out flavor texts to my players I don't mind to much if adventures aren't translated (though I'd really love to see german pathfinder products I don't see this coming any time soon) as I'm reading english fluently enough. since some of my layers don't I'm always glad when the main rules are translated though.

Thank You! I was sure sooner or later somebody would mention them.

I think there is an important reason for assosiating heroism with charisma - hollywood or let's say movies in general. Most Gamers (well most people at least in western society) assosiate heroism with certain movie characters rather then wit "real live" heroes. Those characters tend to be played by actors who are charismatic well above the average guy - understandable, since they need to catch the attention of the audience. The same goes to the supervillain, which tends - in Movies as well as in most D&D Games I know - to be a man/woman/monster with a remarcable personality - read charisma. low charisma doesn't make something bad or ugly or scary but unremarcable. People tend to ignore them which ist somethuing most DM's don't want for their lead characters - and most Players would rather dislike to.
I never had the roblem wit CH as the dump score in my campaigns - my players tend to put above average scores on charisma, I like to think that this partially because I put a certain weight in social skills in my games.
As for the gifted of the gods - I use the charisma bonus for the (seldom needed) Luck rolls in my games.

Since SCAP is only part of my campaign - having mysterious raven tatoos between their shoulders and reading ancient scriptures about themselfs playing an important roler in ther future of the city along with other raven tatooed folk (they haven't met them all yet) - they call themselfs "the flock"

Has the Twisted Rune been updated (members, minions, statistics, plots, etc) in any of the FR 3.5 books? Since they are mentioned in the new Expedition to Undermountain, I was hoping to get more on them. Thanks in advance.

Some Information (3E, not 3,5) can be found in Lords of Darkness

It might seem odd - but I did it this way with new players and it worked very well - in fact I repeat this when the roleplaying part comes to a standstill in one of my d%d campaigns. D&D is a game that sometimes makes players loose grab of their characters - or the setting, or make it hard to come to touch with it. Take a game that has a more realistic setting and less "superheroic" possibilities of problem solving. Call of Cthulhu works best for me, since it has tons of very good published adventures and lends itself well to almost "pure" roleplaying. Play a one shot adventure with characters that are simple, archetypical and have roleplaying hooks to go with the adventure (some adventures have pre-made characers for this purpose). Make clear, these charakters are used only for the ongoing adventure, so most players won`t fear that "to much roleplaying" gets into the way of the campaign or the other players. Most likely the Adventure and the change of pace will encourage the players to more playing than you experiencced so far. When returning to your ongoing d&d campaign keep encouraging your players to show roleplaying and develope their characters.
