Vanaras live in Vudra. This is actually established in The Icebound Outpost (PFS 3-19) - which is... my work. However, I didn't make that up; Vanaras being Vudran was established in the outline Paizo had in mind. There are Vudran pirates living in the Shackles - in Rampore. Vanaras aren't mentioned, but they would make a natural addition to that settlement. feytharn wrote:
I would talk to the GM whether you decide to leave or not. This sounds like an awfully disorganized game, and moreso for a WoD game where there should usually be less random rolling for events, not more. The GM needs to get some constructive and civil feedback about getting the group to work together and cluing you in on the game. Either way, if you stay or go, the GM has useful feedback. He or she may disregard it, but it's better that he/she has it--then you can at least say you tried, and if the GM's games go poorly in general, it may eventually hit him that s/he needs to try a different approach. You know what? I went back and reviewed your emails to me. I don't have time for this nonsense. I think we are done here. Gailbraithe wrote: You're a f~*$ing piece of s*~%, Gary. I am very sorry to hear that as a result of these middling ability scores, your house exploded and your car melted down to cinders. I sincerely hope you were able to replace the Players Handbook, that I assume it is safe to say, was reduced to ash by your unspectacular rolls. Your obliterated dice are a testament to the evils of random generation, as is your fractured psyche. I can only apologize for those friends of mine who enjoy random generation after decades of using it. I am sure if they knew how your every personal relationship was left in utter chaos after this event, they would immediately quit the practice. I cannot account for any bad grades or dependencies you may have encountered after this fantastically calamitous event, as prevailing attitudes towards such phenomena are that the responsibility rests with the individual. However, I hold no illusions that the experience had a real hand in setting you on a ruinous course. On behalf of anybody who still enjoys a quick, rolled-up game where we let the dice fall where they may and live with it, and on behalf of those who still labor under the delusion that a baseline must exist to guide character creation, and that 3d6 is as good a tool for introducing the elements of said creation as anything else, please accept my humblest apologies for our years - nay, decades of ignorance of your plight, and our sincerest wishes for your eventual recovery and financial success. Have any of you DM types considered running a WFRP 2nd Ed game on these boards? I am applying to one with Zombieneighbours, but I truly enjoy our group here and look forward to our games. It is a very diverse grouping of individuals we have here and though we possess a varied outlook on the world and life, seem to do a pretty decent job of treating each other with respect and support even when we disagree. Not bad for people spread around the globe and who have never met one another. It is pretty amazing that something as simple as a game could bring us together. Soldiers, lawyers, professors, teachers, single mothers, and students, straight, gay,or somewhere in between yet through it all we seem to have good time regardless of how bitter Tark can be;). It seems I have strayed from my original question, lol. But, that is of no consequence as I was discussing how enjoyable an experience being around this campfire was with wife and thought that I should express it here. Funny how things can change how you see the world. I tend to avoid this direction of discussion (and which is why I remain absent of the ironically titled Civil Religious Discussions thread elsewhere in off-topics) ... but since you opened that door, I ask that the court allow a little latitude on what I'm going to say below. Let's take a stroll.
But why stop there? What else is considered sinful? Let's see.
But let's get back to Leviticus. It's a holiness code that was written over three millennia ago that also includes prohibitions against:
Don't get me wrong; morality is important. Morality is what one should be doing that is right regardless of whatever I am told. Whereas in some religions, this sometimes come across being told what to do regardless of whether it's right. You're welcome to your own interpretations of the bible and its politics, but I believe that some of us can come to a justified moral conclusion in lieu of a book which instructs us to adhere. So, I have to ask? Are you all-in? Or do you choose to follow certain moral conducts and disregard the other ones? I seriously cannot imagine you to be a modern-day Nazirite. EDIT: Makes me feel relieved that when I bought the Paizo Golem Limited Edition T-Shirt back in April 2010 that it was made with 100% cotton. I don't expect to change your opinion whatsoever. Nor is it my concern about "winning the Internet because someone. is. wrong." But if you're going to use a certain source as a reason for your condemnation, please make sure that it's a blanket condemnation and not something you can pick and choose because it's exegetically convenient for you. And with that conclusion, it's time for me to resume surfing the Internet for my prime directive: invoking Rule 34. Ciao! =) Lawful Good doesn't mean Lawful Stupid. That top-left alignment is a problem for a lot of players. It's not just neutral characters that can weigh options. Lawful Good characters aren't one-dimensional, they have ideals that they believe in; this doesn't mean that they need to be short-sighted. Yes, LG means upholding order and virtue, but people far too often overlook the willingness of LG characters to understand the concept of "greater good." The very idea of working toward redeeming chaotic or evil characters escapes the consideration of many players playing, or playing alongside, a LG alignment. You need to remember that your alignment doesn't play your character, your character plays its alignment. Alignments are not character archetypes, they are an oversimplification of a character's worldview. There exist a myriad of nuances within the nine alignments. My LG character could make decisions that would make another LG balk, and still remain in the light of his god. Azure_Zero wrote:

Which is not uncommon...apparently Pegasus Spiele does deluxe editions of everything they translate from Chaosium that put the orignals to shame. I kinda that wish Chaosium would put out English versions of the Pegasus Spiele Call of Cthulhu stuff...or just hire away the guys that add the extra awesomeness. Sorry, no. Problematic posts need to be completely gone. Sometimes we have to remove several posts because they respond to or quote a removed post and the resulting detritus would be distracting. Also I feel really strongly that the "no edits by moderators" policy leads to greater trust on the part of the reader. If people thought we were going around editing posts, whether we left a note or not, that raises all sorts of potential for claims of abuse, claims that what is being read is not what was originally written, and so on. Keep in mind that neither Paizo nor Wizards of the Coast are likely to post in this thread any secret future plans, so everything posted in here is going to be pure speculation, based on pure speculation. So when you feel like disagreeing with someone (and you probably will, I can tell it has the potential to be that kind of thread), keep in mind that it's just their opinion. They're no more privy to the truth than you are. And when you post your awesome idea that Paizo absolutely must do or else we're going to go out of business, please have faith in Lisa, Erik and the rest of us that we got to this point because we're not stupid. I came here back in early 2006 to ask a question after getting verbally pooped on by folks on another forum way back then. Here I got nice answers, stayed, made friends, and the rest is history. I hate seeing the same behavior that drove me away from that other site happen here. Be helpful, be nice, or ignore it and move on. Mairkurion {tm} wrote:
1) Probably, but I'm sure I forgot which one. 2) Not unless it descends into a tangled mass of rules bickering or edition warring or homophobia or misogyny or badmouthing of my favorite movies. So far, so good! One of the biggest projects that I wrote for that never came out was a project that TSR was developing back around 1990 which was going to be a beginner's book on roleplaying games. They went around to all of the famous people in the game industry and got them each to take on a topic or two (or three). I got three chapters myself, doing the "Introduction to Roleplaying Games," "How to Make An Adventure," and "How To Use A Published Adventure." When the book got canned for some reason, TSR gave me back the rights to the articles. I then sold the latter two to Dragon Magazine, and they came out in issues #198 and #200. The Introduction to Roleplaying Games was on the WotC website for a while, though I can't find it now. Pierce (our Sales Manager) has used it to educate buyers at the book stores. Maybe I will see about getting that Intro article posted on paizo.com. It would be nice to have a repository for it and perhaps it will serve a purpose when the Beginner's Box comes out. -Lisa I've been thinking about this situation for some time. I even talked with the Legendary Games guys a few months ago about reaching out to Nick as I see Bill has done. Good job, Bill. But it has become clear to me that this whole thing is just too overwhelming for Nick. People want nice clear logical reasons for what he is doing. I don't know him. But in my job I see people in similar situations--situations that have just gotten way out of control. And I can tell you they don't act logically and clearly in the way people here want. It also seems everyone (well, almost everyone) wants to help Nick, to see him succeed. I sure do. He's written some of the best stuff I've ever read. He is very talented. Keeping up the pressure on these boards or by private emails or calls will likely have the exact opposite effect. My hope is this, people let the dust settle. Nick reestablishes contact with someone. Rehabs his name a bit with the RPG group. And if that helped him get his feet under him and turn to handling RC all the better. Maybe backing off is the best way to see Nick's return, which I think is what everyone wants. Just a thought. And maybe back off a bit on the judgment of him. I mean, I can think of times in my life I've dug myself into a hole or made mistakes or done things I wish I hadn't. I'm pretty sure we all can. And saying "yeah, but not as bad as HIM" is hardly a helpful response. This industry is way too small to be out for blood. Don't waste that hate on an artist who has gotten himself in a hole. Again, just my thoughts. Your mileage may vary. Clark FlynnK wrote:

Hey, Gailbraithe, guess what? I just flagged every single post of yours from the last two pages. Why, you ask? Because for the first bit, every single post you wrote made me ashamed to be reading them. After a while, I just started flagging them on principle. Speaking as an *actual* member of the working poor, I think that your ideas on class are absolutely ridiculous, and what's worse, insulting. Go take your faux-revolutionary screed elsewhere, and stop polluting our minds. Gailbraithe wrote:
While fairly close, this is actually a common misconception. If Erik were a normal publisher in the publishing business sense of the word, then you would be right on. However, the entity currently designated "Erik Mona" is actually an early draft of the program that would eventually become Microsoft Publisher. In late 1990, an unnamed Microsoft programmer was working on creating a new entry level desktop publishing program. Going against all laws of Nature, Gods, and Man, this unfortunate genius attempted to fuse artificial intelligence into the program by combining it at a base level with both "Clippy", and the accumulated rock knowledge of Ronnie James Dio. Due to an unfortunately timed lightning strike at the moment of compiling, the fledgling program gained an evil sentience and immediately ripped the mind from the programmer, taking over his body completely. Since this time, The Publisher has jumped bodies three times (six, if you count the unfortunate incident at the Bodies Exibit in Seattle last year, but this incident is best not mentioned). The current body, designated "Erik Mona" in an arbitrary name draw, is the one with which you are familiar. The ultimate goal of The Publisher is completely unknown, but it seems happy (and therefore less lethal) when we give it an office and let it play out it's "bigwig at Paizo" act as much as it wants. We live in fear at all times of The Publisher. Thanks,
P.S.:
Some of these facts may vary from actual truth somewhat. Modron Lawyer wrote:
Our restrictions are not arbitrary, nor are we a corporation. I remember the last round of layoffs from WotC generating the same mean-spirited jabs as this most recent rumor. The edition wars rage on for no good reason. A new generation, irrespective of edition, is maligned because of their background in MMO-parlance. Within a given edition, extremists from both styles-of-play tear into each other like it somehow matters how other people have fun. There are chicken-littles decrying the destruction of the game over rules of little consequence — their constant pestering has driven the staff to avoid providing guidance in the manner that they so kindly once did. Worst of all, the frustrated moderate posters clutter the board with well-meaning but ultimately fruitless peace-making rants. -- I know it's just that I have a new job with scads of free internet time, and that I'm bored so I spend more time here recently. But for the love of the game, can we please chill the hell out? Please, for your own sake and for the sake of others, be a kind, well-adjusted person who wants to help. Don't be a dick. That's a pretty ridiculous thing to say. I've been playing my cleric in Rob's game for several months now and no TPK. I've only played my other character in Erik's game 1 session so far, but we had NO deaths in that one—and that was with everyone in the group starting with no equipment at all. My experience says that those characters do not lead to TPKs at all. In any case, you obviously are more interested in arguing rules and not in what I find to be the more interesting part of the game (and apparently play a different kind of Pathfinder than I enjoy writing and designing and playing), so I'll bow out of the thread and recommend you contact Jason for answers. And thanks for helping me come to the realization that I should just avoid all the threads in the Rules part of the messageboards—it's something that's slowly but surely been dawning on me over the past few months. My play style and game design philosophy just aren't appropriate for this part of our boards. Fraust wrote: Think I'll reserve my excitement until I know more. Avast ye landlubber, when the Paizo staff tells ya that it is a pirate AP, you better reach for your cutlass and get ready to board that beauty! So hoist the flag and get ready to send your enemies to Davie Jone's Locker! -Lisa I would love to see a new copy of the core rulebook which is both well-organized and deals with some of the FAQ/Errata sort of things that have come up -- I fully agree that the core PF book, as written, kind of assumes their players are familiar with 3.5 - which was fine for people like me, but less good for people like some of my players. I'd pay money for that. |
