If you read the Members section of the affiliation, you'll see that it says "With almost no exceptions, members must be humans of Suel extraction." Due to this I would say that it would not be appropriate for your player to join SB, unless of course he changes his race to human (Suel). Otherwise I would suggest to the player that he'd join either The Seekers or the Witchwardens instead. Some of the discussions in this thread got me thinking about a quote from Sir Winston Churchill: "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject." I for one applaud Paizo's efforts to create a setting that will appeal to a more adult audience, especially since WotC seems to be going the other way. This gives those of us who are more interested in mature themes something to spend our money on. I don't think the good folks at Paizo should try to steer away from sensitive issues, because there's always a zealot out there that will be offended by something. morbiczer wrote:
For example: if TPFG is about to file for bankrupcy, but haven't done it yet, I would guess that would be a reason why Paizo couldn't say anything. Guennarr wrote: Standard procedure by post delivery staff in Germany is to return post to sender if the recipient is not clearly identifyable (which can be assumed in a flat with about 30 apartments). That's pretty much how it works here in Sweden as well. If there's no way to identify the recipient from the envelope they have the right to open it to try to figure out the recipient from the content. If they are unsuccessful with that they return it to the sender. Shadowcross wrote:
It's comforting to know that you can always count on TPFG to make a bad situation worse. If you look at this map of Oerth, you will see that the part of Flaeness that Sasserine is located in is about 17-18 degrees north of the equator. An Earth equivalent might be the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. Where I think Paizo have failed in this issue is the information department. While I'm not worried that I'll get my magazines, eventually, I would like to know what is happening with the communication with the Place for Games. You can't get them on the phone, or they're not answering their emails? The please post that here to keep us updated. They come with lame excuses or song and dance numbers? Post that as well. Any information is better than no information. King in Yellow wrote:
Well, there's no doubt in my mind that we will never ever ever get any magazines from TPFG, so I can only concurr. NorthWindSpirit wrote: Personally I think the whole thing (in the sense of people getting upset about what is, really, quite a short delay in the grand scheme of things) has been blown a bit out of proportion by the high degree of anticipation generated for the product, which I sincerely hope lives up to its billing. Well, I think that has less to do with the actual delay of Pathfinder and more to do with the missing issues of Dungeon and Dragon. After waiting in vain for two months for the magazines you could get a bit touchy when a delay occurs with Pathfinder as well, since that was the oasis in the desert. PandaGaki wrote: ... it seems that tpfg only sent out one or two bags from all their magazines... This is probably exactly what happened. By sending out a couple of bags TPFG could then say that they have started sending out the magazines, thereby bying them time to either raise the money send out the rest or simply to get a creditor (Paizo) of their backs. Status for Sweden: still no Dungeon 149 or 150, nor Dragon 358 or 359. Brent wrote: There are a number of instances where two books I haven't heard of were referenced. One was the "Book of Fiends", is this a Gamemastery product? If so, does it build on work from things like the Fiendish Codex line? Another one referenced was the "Tome of Horrors I". Tome of Horrors Revised from Necromancer Games Book of Fiends from Green Ronin Russ Taylor wrote: A compulsion spell forces the subject to act in some manner or changes the way her mind works. Some compulsion spells determine the subject’s actions or the effects on the subject, some compulsion spells allow you to determine the subject’s actions when you cast the spell, and others give you ongoing control over the subject. Also, the description on spells like dominate person and magic jar explicitely says that protection from spells, while on Otto's irresistible dance it does not. Medriev wrote:
Not to be a thread-jacker, but Janik returned to the DM Genie forums at the start of the week with an update on what he was working on at the moment. Anyway, I will be using DM Genie in my upcoming ST campaign, and unless there has poped up a tool that's even better at supporting me as a DM in-game when it's time for me to run my first Pathfinder AP in about 3 years time I will be using DM Genie then as well. It's a lifesaver when it comes to tracking combat, spell durations, and so on. As the days go by it's becoming ever more clear that TPFG haven't, and apparently have no intention of, sending out any magazines to the European subscribers. One can only speculate that this has to do with the financial problems the company appear to be suffering. BUT, what I want to know now is what steps Paizo is preparing to resolve this situation? I know that Gen Con is currently in progress, but even so I would think that it would be in Paizo's own interest to push this issue. I mean, every day that goes by decreases the chance for Paizo to get their money back from TPFG, if such a chance still exists. I have full confidence that Paizo will make sure that we European subscribers get our magazines, one way or another. But I would hate to see Paizo lose a bundle of money on this affair. TPFG has had every opportunity to honor their contract with Paizo, and all they have to show for it is excuses if even that. Now it's time for Paizo to take the issue to the next level. Paz wrote: TPFG's web site isn't working at the moment - I hope that's a temporary thing, and not a sign of something more ominous... Well, it's up and running again, but now they are experiencing "temporary problems" with their phone system. crazy_cat wrote:
Sounds like TPFG is about to go belly-up, which of course means that no magazines have been mailed since they are probably using the money from Paizo to pay the most urgent bills. This would also mean that Paizo can look to the stars for that money, since they will be gone... if that's the case. Luckily I'm just getting started to run Savage Tide, so before it's time for me to run Enemies of my Enemy and Prince of Demons the magazines will hopefully have arrived. Oh, and just to be clear, still no Dungeon 149 or Dragon 358 in Malmö Sweden... See this thread for the answer to that question. Basically, though, Paizo knew before they started working on the next AP that the license wouldn't be renewed, so the next AP is Rise of the Runelords. Well, in August Paizo will release Player's Guide to Rise of the Runelords which I think will contain some of the information you are looking for. I'm not sure whether it will contain player information about monsters and the like, but it will introduce the world to the players. Eyebite wrote: Will these different ethnicities have any different stats? What I would like to see is different favored classes for the different ethnicities. Not like the other races though, where the favored class is restricted to just one class, but I think there should be some restrictions to add flavor. For example, Varisians could have bard, druid, ranger, rogue, and sorcerer as favored classes. I know there's a lot of people (including me) that's waiting for The Order of the Stick: Start of Darkness. The following is from Giant in the Playground: Giant in the Playground wrote: So, you may have noticed that it's past May 15th, and those of you who have preordered haven't gotten your copies of Start of Darkness. Or that they aren't showing up on store shelves. It's not just you; the printer made a mistake and printed the special "color insert" in black-and-white, so we have to go back and print those pages again. (Don't worry, it's not costing me anything.) Right now, the ETA for the book is June 13th, but as always, don't hold me to that. Just so you know... trellian wrote: For you other DM's out there: Will you allow non-OGL classes (and races) in your Pathfinder games? I just feel a little uncomfortable allowing one of my players to play something from Incarnum when I know with 100% certainty that none of the NPCs will ever be of that class. Well, I usually tweak the NPCs myself anyhow, swapping feats, spells, classes, etc, so doing so in Pathfinder as well won't add any extra work for me. So, to answer your question, I will allow non-OGL classes, but probably not non-OGL races.
