Liberty's Edge

Thanks man, great resource!

Liberty's Edge

Deleted a post, my math was all wrong.

I'm working on a Large version that's Monk 6 then takes Sup US and FotF at 7th for 3d6 damage and prolly goes Scorpion>Gorgon's>Medusa's

Found fixed large unarmed chart on pfsrd, so Flurry is 3d6+7 per hit at 7 with 3 hits for +12/+12/+7. That sound good?

Then there's Power Attack and Feral Trance on top of that.

Feral Trance (Su):
Once per day, you can enter a feral battle trance. While you are in this state, the raw power of the beast flows through you. Your hands and feet become clawlike (destroying any shoes on gloves you are wearing), and your teeth lengthen and grow pointed. For the duration of the trance, you gain a +4 bonus to Dexterity and a +2 bonus on damage rolls with your unarmed strikes. You can also make one bite attack per round at your highest attack bonus whenever you attack as a full-round action.
The damage for this attack is 1d6 + your Str modifier, regardless of your size. A feral trance lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + your Con modifier. While in a trance, you cannot perform certain actions, and afterward you are fatigued. These restrictions are the same as those for the barbarian's rage class feature (PH 25-26). If you have the ability to enter a rage, you can do so while in a feral trance, using your increased Constitution score to determine the
duration of both effects.

You may find Guided to be quite the useful enchantment for your hand wraps, so useful you may want to scrap the idea of putting your strength so high since it lets you increase your damage and hit with your full wisdom bonus instead of your strength.

Aside from that I would drop Greater Fortitude in exchange for Dazzling Display, drop Dodge for Cornugon Smash/Enforcer, and then aim for Shattered Defenses the moment you can get your hand on it.

If you do that, you'll be able to set up your own requirements for Medusa's wrath, if you splash into rogue and pick up the thug archetype you'll also be able to use Dazzling Display to cause Fear instead of just shaken if you can score +10 on your Intimidate before it hits, if you went with Enforcer you can -Force- a target to become feared and run away with no choice so long as you can actually intimidate it.

I was actually in the process of making a rogue with no levels of monk who'd rely on Medusa's/Shattered Defense, and the whole intimidation/circle of intimidation based off of the characters will cowing everything around it fits One Piece to a T with the whole Haki thing.

Ok, I like Guided, thanks.

Greater Fortitude is there as a pre-req for Fist of the Forest and Dodge because I won't have magical cloth for a while. With Guided meaning a min Str, I could make Dex big for many reasons including AC and so swap Dodge easily.

Am I going to be able to hit Intimidate target DCs with a dumped Charisma?

Can you show me the by-level progression you're talking about?

Also, remember that Fist of the Forest has serious RP and gear restrictions on the character who takes it. Your pretty much forced into a Vow of Poverty with no benefits when you take the PrC and are supposed to avoid civilised area's like the plague.

I like the RP stuff, and I see no gear restrictions. Primal Living talks about food and where you sleep, and that works for me.

What alignment? If he is allowing anything from 3.5 you have options... lol

If L-G / BOED Vow of poverty... since you are starting with no gear or cash at 7th level... this starts you with a bang.

Take a few levels of Barbarian (or more) get your hands on Frozen Berserker 5 level PRC from Frostburn... it stacks well with Fist of the Forest.

So yeah,

Monk Alignment: Any lawful
Barbarian Alignment: Any non-lawful

Are you talking about a progression that doesn't include monk?

Liberty's Edge

Hi,

I'm playing in my first PF homegame starting Monday and I'm trying to build a beefy lvl6 unarmed combatant by then. Please assist. I'm interested in full progression, planning ahead, etc.

I'm having trouble finding pf monk charops that take into account material outside the core book.

The world is going to be very One Piece inspired. I expect lots of ship travel. I've been itching to play an unarmed combatant anyway, so this works. We start in prison on prison island, the size of South Carolina.

No worries about what the rest of the group is, tanking and spells always get covered with this group.

We start at level 7. With no money and no gear that costs more than 1GP and/or could reasonably be made in prison.

PF rules base with almost anything from 3.5 allowed expect Savage Species.

The DM has a bunch of homebrew stuff and I'm using some of it:

race is cool fluff that results in +2 to two ability scores and -2 to one, all my choice; 120ft darkvision

1st level feat can be large creature, small creature, flight, really good swim - I'm leaning towards large creature - +2 str -2 dex and fist die size goes up by one then be str-based with wis DC stuff like scorpion and gorgon

Later when we have money I can get "handwraps" if I want. They can be enchanted with any bludgeoning or generic weapon enchantment. Wouldn't stack with enchanted fist necklace.

Sounds like anything will stack to add to fist die size.

At level 4 I get +2 to one ability score.

I'm fine with multiclassing and grabbing lots of PrCs as needed. I really don't want weapons and don't really care about offensive spells. Self-buffs are cool if lengthy.

Base ability scores are:

13
16
17
12
15
18

OR

14
14
16
14
13
14

any order

My thoughts:

Been reading about Fist of the Forest, con to AC, bigger fists, 1/day increase to dex, cool fluff.

Can't find any PF monk PrCs.

Ability Scores:

Given my stats, do Monk 6/Forest 1. Take the DM's large feat, focus on wis, str, con, dex in that order for AC/DC, hit/dmg, AC/HP, AC/Ref/Init.

Wis 22 +6
Str 21 +5
Con 15 +2
Dex 14 +2
Cha 13 +1
Int 10 +0

(Cha over Int for personality over skills - I know this DM)

Then once I have cash (depending on how combats are going), I'll grab gear to up either str for hit/dmg or con for ac/hp.

That means:

22 AC (6 wis, 2 con, 2 dex, 1 dodge, 1 monk, 10 base)

DC 19 (6 wis, 3 half level, 10 base)

11 ki (3 half monk level, 6 wis, 2 vow [see below])

51 HP (max at first, rolled, con)

+5 BAB

flurry: 5/5/0 (am I doing this right?)

+ 10 CMB (maybe +2 when grappling, see below)

22 CMD (maybe +2 versus grapple, see below)

Feats:

Large
Dodge
WF: Fists
Power Attack
Great Fortitude
Scorpion Style
Improved Grapple OR Gorgon's Fist (Thoughts? iGrapple for mages but I dunno if bonus is needed badly right now versus Gorgon's to stagger melee guys and deny full attack)

Use the Ultimate Magic thing to swap Slow Fall for either Ki Stand or Barkskin. Since it's prison stuff then open sea stuff, I don't expect to fall much. I figure grapple, pin as an anti-mage thing then when he's dead stand back up easily with no OA. OR Barkskin self for the AC since I dunno how long until I'll be able to buy a wand for the caster.

Take Vow of Truth for more ki. Fluff-wise also probably why I got sent to prison. I told the truth about some situation I misunderstood and they thought I should have understood and acted to stop whatever.

How does my plan sound? Thoughts? Redesigns? Links to charop guides that include PF splat book and 3.5 material?

]...and that you must update your character to current rules if/when the rules are updated (as with the release of the revised Gunslinger class on 3/7/11). [/QUOTE wrote:

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but what exactly must be updated?

Obviously I have to play with the new rules from now on, but what (if anything) gets grandfathered in?

For instance, a musket gunslinger no longer gets free ammo and powder. Should I change old chronicle sheets and buy them during my first adventure?

If not, do the remaining "free" materials go poof and disappear from my character before his next adventure or do I get to keep them as well?

Liberty's Edge

Is there a list somewhere of the retired mods (with dates) that gets updated?

We'd like to get everything in before it goes, but browsing to every single module's page and checking for updates is tedious.

I did mean paizo and have been emailing that address, which I just confirmed.

Josh, could you contact please me at the address on my account with info about con support?

Liberty's Edge

1) When I used clone to make setting up another event easier, I could then change some details that were different. However, anything I try to change the event location on either event it changes the other automatically. I would prefer it didn't do that.

2) After finding a thread here, I have been writing josh@paiso.com for a couple weeks requesting more info about con support. If I can get that info anywhere, anyhow, please let me know what I need to do! My convention is coming up soon and I need to plan my schedule, with or without PFS, but preferably with!

Thanks,

Kyle

Liberty's Edge

Hi, I have a question about the PFS1 chronicle sheet.

I've played three PFS mods, the last of which was Silent Tide. The first two gave "story awards" or whatever you want to call them for free, but looking back while leveling up, I noticed that the Silent Tide chronicle seems to list a price of 100GP for it's story award.

Is this a misprint, or are players expected to pay for story awards occasionally/often? I don't like the idea of players having to pay for them at all, especially something as limited use as the Silent Tide award.

If it is supposed to be for sale and I didn't notice the charge when filling out the chronicle, can I pay for it on my next chronicle and still get the boon?
