To the new GMs and players of new GMs out there? How is it going?

Jay H

I ran the demo/solo from the Hero's guide for my 10 and 5 year old (my 8 year old watched). Both of them just came home from school today wanting to play again. I think we're going to head in the mine from the supplemental before doing the main scenario.

Note: I had the goblins get 'wounded' and run off rather than the usual murder-n-take-their-stuff approach ;) We did kill off the skeleton king

I'm also cutting out the magic items from the print outs and handing them to them so they don't have to write down and reference.

Players wanted for WFRP 3e group (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay).
We've got three and are looking for 1-2 more regular, local players. (Local meaning commute less than 30 minutes to Lakewood). We play 3 Thursday evenings per month. RULES TAUGHT/Noob's welcome. We play the rules-lite version with a good amount of combat and character personality roleplay, but bits welcome.

Please respond at the MEET-UP: http://www.meetup.com/Denver-RPG/

Characters welcome!

Liber Fanatica is an established fanzine for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game. We are beginning production of issue #9 and are seeking 3rd edition articles, illustrations, and scenarios.

LF is a great way for burgeoning authors to get noticed or just burn some creative oil. Current issues are devoted to the 3rd edition of the game.

If you are interested, please join the inner sanctum by proposing an article at the guestbook:

Jay Hafner
Lead Developer for Liber Fanatica #9

Hi,
I'm putting together a new gaming group for Wednesday OR Thursday nights a couple times a month (about 3 games a month). I will be GMing Pathfinder (D&D3.75), Warhammer ROLEPLAY, All Flesh.., Call of Cthulhu, etc. depending on what you guys are interested in for campaigns. I'm leaning towards Pathfinder's new CARRION CROWN path and WFRP short campaigns such as The Gathering Storm.

Group meets in LAKEWOOD from 6:45-10:45.

Player age is 21 and older.

If you are interested, please respond to this post.

Thanks!

Jay H

If we play Pathfinder it will be: Carrion Crown == From the whispering shadows of haunted Ustalav an ancient evil rises to grip the world in a new age of horror!
Amid the mists of this land of dark superstition and dread secrets stand both those who would defy the return of evil and those who would seek its terrible favor. Can the heroes discern their allies from their enemies in time to save a tortured realm from a tyrant’s return? Pathfinder’s darkest and most frightening campaign ever sets the heroes against the agents of Golarion’s most notorious villain, the Whispering Tyrant, in a terrifying trek across a land of lurking horror and ancient mysteries.

Our group plays Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Pathfinder. We are seeking a couple more players to round out our group. If you are new to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, no big deal; rules taught.

LOCATION: LAKEWOOD, COLORADO

DATES: WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY NIGHTS 2-3 TIMES PER MONTH

TIMES: 7PM TO 10:45 PM

Please email me with interest and respond here too:
hafner.jay@gmail.com

Thanks!

Jay H

We need a Lead Developer for LF8. I headed up LF7 and am willing to stay on as assistant editor, but I need someone to step up and take the reins to keep everyone to deadlines, encourage production, and get creativity out of people.

We've already got articles coming in, and I'd love to see this continue to ride the WFRP official release waves.

If you're even REMOTELY interested, please email me at: hafner DOT jay AT gmail.com.

Ok, we're set to start Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd edition games at Mythplaced Treasures in LAKEWOOD. Games will be on either Saturdays or Sundays and will run for 4 or so hours. We expect to meet 2-3 times per month.

I'll be running an ongoing series of one-shots in a campaign (Living-style), so players can drop in and out as necessary and new players should be able to join at any point. HERE IS THE SCHEDULING MEET-UP

Character generation: Standard rules except you can choose your career instead of random generation and humans cannot have a starting characteristic of 5. House Rules are here If you do not have the Player's Guide or Core Rules, let me know and we'll get you set up at the game.

If you are interested, respond here with preferred day and character idea. Later saturdays and earlier sundays are my what I can do.

What's the benefit of a masterwork holy symbol?

Masterwork thieves tools give a benefit to certain checks. Which are affected for holy symbol? Turn undead?

I'd like to start a thread regarding options regarding rejected scenarios.

Although rejected scenarios oftentimes need a lot of work, I don't believe that they are a wasted effort. If they can't be worked into the PFS circles, what about other options?

There are a lot of fan-sites (D&D, PFS, and other game systems) that can be a good places to work on and finish a current project that you feel has merit. I think simply working on your skills and building your reputation for future projects, including and especially for future submissions for Pathfinder Society Scenarios, could be very valuable.

Please post locations where you feel these would be useful for budding authors and rejected scenarios.

Thanks,

Jay H

My cavalier has two-weapon proficiency and exotic wep prof for bastard sword.

What's the penalty for attacking with both a bastard sword and the light crossbow in the same round?

Is there an AoO?

jh

Is the Urumi still a reach weapon in PFS? - p.209 (PF campaign setting)

Thanks,

Jay H

My cavalier's mount has the Improved Overrun feat. My cavalier does not have Improved Overrun. Is my cavalier subject to AoO's during an overrun by the mount?

jh

One of the giant flaws (?) of D&D (3.5 and earlier) was it's enormous dependency on magical items to balance the characters at medium and upper levels. Does Pathfinder still have this flaw, or are the characters more balanced?

Thoughts?

jh

I did up a complete list of PFS Open Play scenarios with easy-to-see level/tier. Let me know if you find any inaccuracies.

Anybody do an Index to the Guide to PFS Open Play?

Link?

jh

Just curious..and can they be directed to attack someone independently? I.e. could I direct my horse to go attack someone (while I'm not on it) like an animal companion? Or are horses not allowed to be used like Druid or Ranger puppet animal companions?

Thanks,

jh

Quick question for Pathfinder Society Rules:
I've got a player who wants his druid to take the T-rex for his 1st level druid for our next PFS game.

How does it scale down from an 18d8 damage for a bite?

Thanks,

jh

How much does a potion of shield cost? Is it legal for Pathfinder society play?

Thanks,

jh

All: I did up a table of briefs of pre-req's and benefits of all of the legal traits and feats listed in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Open Play. I hope you find it useful to diversify your characters and get more use out of your Pathfinder library. Let me know on thoughts or errata. I may make the "benefits" listings more brief to match the type of table in the Core rulebook.

Thanks,

Jay Hafner

I know this has probably been asked before, but are there any illegalities with a fighter using a bastard sword in each hand?

Dex 15
Two weapon fighting feat
exotic weapon feat

-4/-4 to hit

correct?

Thanks,

Jay H

I'd like to discuss what everyone's feelings are regarding 1-hp minions such as we see in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3E or D&D 4e.

As a player, I enjoy slaying minions and as a Gm, I think they make shutting down the BBEG a little more difficult (and fun).

What are your thoughts for adding them to Pathfinder?

Jh

We're looking for a few more players for Pathfinder Society games in BOULDER, CO. Let us know if you're interested.

We do scheduling for north denver metro and Boulder games at:

Thanks,

Something that's been on my chest since I came back to this game a month or two ago.

Could we please finally get back to a readable font size? 8 point is really tough and worse after a day at a convention..I know you guys like it because it looks clean and it looks like we're getting more for our bucks..but how about thinner margins and a larger font instead?

Also, since xp has moved to "finishing the scenario with success," instead of every encounter needs to be deadly, I'd like to see/encourage more NON-deadly, investigative encounters instead of the usual run of combat combat trap combat trap combat sequence of scenarios.

Lastly, I'd like to congratulate Paizo and the writers on continuing to do such a great job with scenarios, editing, and artwork (including cartography).

Is "turn undead"/channel energy subject to "miss by concealment?" (p.196)

I've been gone so long playing other game systems b/c of 4e, it's left my head foggy: I'm running a scenario with wolves: Do zombie wolves get two attacks per round: bite and slam?

Thanks,

jh

Alright, something's got my goatee twisted today: Stupid character names. I understand if there's a kid who doesn't understand that "GalaxyMan", "drzztard" or "Captain Spider" maybe isn't appropriate, but how about non-kids?

Tell me how to deal with this as a GM! Do I just tell them flat-out that they're using a stupid name and they should change it?

I can imagine this in an MMO but should it be "allowed" in Pathfinder Society?
(in fact my knight was killed by "Leas Pinkydragon" in pvp play in the Warhammer MMO..pretty degrading ;)

Thanks in advance,

jh
(Rich, if you're reading this, I'm not talking about your character's name..but... ;)

I used to run games on maptool for D&D and WFRP 2e. Anybody try it with Pathfinder? Got any macros you want to share?

Thanks,

Jay H

I've got a concern that one of my adult players is cheating and I'd like some advice on how to address it This is in our general pathfinder game (not open play), but I need some advice anyways from you experts.

I've always suspected that he fudges. He tends to use camouflaged dice so that you can't see the result from across the table. He rolls and picks it up quickly so nobody else sees the result. Our group rolls attack and damage dice together to save time, but his character (2 attacks) uses the same colored d6 for his attacks and I suspect he's just choosing the higher. He rarely reports a miss on an attack and always does plenty of damage.

I did a rundown of the average initiative's over the last 8 combats (and am thinking of keeping track of other things just to be sure..but should I have to do this 'sleuthing?'):
Player
1. (probable cheater): 20.13
2. 14.63
3. 11.13
4. 14.38
5. 16.5
DM. 16.5

I've requested everyones character sheets to be emailed over to me for two reasons: 1) to make sure everyone's math is correct before I jump to conclusions, 2) work on background/foreground development for characters.

Any thoughts on how I should address this? He's an adult, so I want to treat him as such.

jh

Any thoughts on how to bump pathfinder's BURNT OFFERINGS scenario so it's not so unbelievably easy for my pc's?

Characters are btw,
monk
bard
inquistor
druid (plus APE)
wizard (summoner............)

The inquisitor is thinking of changing to a warrior class too because the scenario is just a giant dungeon crawl.

One other thought: is "FAST progression too fast? for these older scenarios?"

jh

Can the Cavalier ever change his teamwork feat or is it the same forever?

Can he advance his mount like a druid advances an animal companion?

Does Improved initiative work for his teamwork feat or is only NOT this feat?

jh

Does the Cavalier mount advance like a Druid's companion?

jh

I'm contemplating which "Teamwork/Tactician" feat would be most useful for a cavalier in general. I'm playing a Taldorian of the Lion order for theme btw.

* Improved Initiative
* Blind fight
* Combat reflexes
* saving throw feat
* Skill focus (of some kind)
* Step up +++ This is the one I'm thinking

Thoughts?

jh

I've traditionally run my 3.5E D&D games without alignment. It's solved a lot of problems for that system (namely, the Paladin evil-radar annoyance).

Are there situations where you feel it might cause problems in the PATHFINDER rules?

We are organizing regular play of the Pathfinder Society (open play) scenarios for the WEST AND NORTH DENVER SUBURBS (WHEATRIDGE, LAKEWOOD, ARVADA, GOLDEN, WESTMINSTER, ETC). If you're local and interested, join us at:

Forgive me for bringing up this topic in this fashion, but I'm only recently getting back to D&D. I see a lot of talk about inane rules discussions and min-maxing characters, but where is the discussion for the world stuff? I guess my point is, does anybody care about the world background or is it just the same old generic D&D?

Does that stuff matter in this world? Is there a difference from one human to the next or are they "just the boring race?"

I enjoy reading up on the factions. I think they're a good idea, but do the places on the map matter to anyone other than the GM?

jh

Is there a "World Guide" for Pathfinder somewhere or am I blind?

jh

I'm getting back into d20 gaming and was wondering if the Pathfinder rules would work well in the Warhammer Fantasy world?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

jh

Does book of 9 swords work well with Pathfinder?

All: I HIGHLY welcome your feedback on the formatted draft of my 2nd fan scenario: THE LONE WOLF. It is specifically for a WFRP/D&D 3.5 crossover game.

It is already formatted and includes a map (so it looks pretty). I included 90% of the feedback already received.

I specifically need feedback on the following:

1. Flow and general thoughts
2. Title (the scenario is named after the adventure hook of the same name by Hapimeses (I think that's andrew law right?)
3. Where I should place the monsters in the ship
4. what parts of the ship should be rotted and how bad from the encounter with the nurgle plagueship
5. macguffins
6. hooks by party type
7. plot in general
8. "wants and needs by GM's"
9. the boxed text is rough/incomplete..any thoughts there are welcome too.
10. Grammar/spelling/format

It is here: http://gallery.rptools.net/v/contrib/emirikol7/?g2_page=2

How sad is that: I never recieved 148 and didn't notice until today..

I was working on the final version of my Complete Dungeon Index (thanks to those of you who have helped over the years), and I JUST noticed that I hadn't recived it. I guess being the July issue, I just forgot! How sad, considering how much I rely on Dungeon!

Could someone tell me the non-adventure contents so I can finish this dang thing?

Who do I contact to get my issue?

Jay
Colorado

Question: Is Pathfinder like DUNGEON or is it just one path per issue?

That is, if there are four adventures in an issue, are they all for the same path or are they each going their own path?

What are your thoughts on Pathfinder formatting compared to Dungeon?

Thanks,

Jay H
