As an Eberron DM, I'm having a tough time using Dungeon.

We have a forum specific to EBERRRON DM's. It's at:

Nice job BTW.

Within the next three issues, we'll also see a multi-part Eberron adventure adapted from last year's Gen Con D&D Open, and I've contracted Keith Baker to provide...

That's what I think I was hoping for. The 3 main world adaptations are going to be VERY useful..at least as useful as the imported-from-the-RPGA concept of level adaptability sidebar (thank Saturn for that evolution). It should drive the folks over at Canonfire wild with debate..I don't know much about the FR crowd though. It seems unless it's in book form...

Good to see you haven't lost your old sage-ness ;) I might have to look up one or two of those :P

Serious question. I'm very familiar with, and a fan of all three worlds and was thinking about the lackluster support of the Eberron world in DUNGEON. Since Eberron has a great number of non-kingdom organizations, it made me wonder if worlds without a lot of non-kingdom depth, such as FR or GH could actually be adapted from Eberron.

For example: if an Eberron adventure were presented using a couple of the non-kingdom organizations, are there equivalents for FR or GH? I seriously doubt if GH would have equivalents, especially since it's a more primative world in regards to 'modern concepts.' FR, has some organizations, but probably not enough to cover the depth.

FR has about 12 'organizations' of which only about 3-4 concern PC's, and PC's would be seriously only pawns of them.

GH has only 4-5 organizations, of which all concern the PC's, but not really in a way that they can get involved.

Eberron has 16 major organizations, of which all concern the PC's.

I've been adapting adventures for 119 issues of DUNGEON and found that 'campaign-specific-content' always turned me away from an adventure, but I never knew why. I think it was lazy thinking..thinking that my world of Greyhawk couldn't keep up with organization-heavy worlds such as FR or the new Eberron.

Is that the deal? Why do you shy away from campaign-specific adventures and why aren't there more Eberron adventures?

You're taking it too literally. The races have their own balances :)

I was perusing the latest Dragon and was reading the usual presentation for the basic core classes when I realized that PSIONICS are now part of the D&D standard world of Eberron. There are also base classes in the other books, such as the Complete Warrior, et al.

How about adding one more section: the OTHER classes. You'd only have to do one article per issue, but it could be about those other classes. Namely, I think there would be much joy if there was something on psionics in that "Other Classes" section. It surely would add depth to the game and add a lot more intersting features to your magazine. It would definately be something breakthrough, it would get DM's and players thinking, and also would show that you encompass the whole of D&D. Each month really would be a pleasant surprise.

BTW, Erik, I'm happy to see you at the helm.

Way to go Erik and Jason. You've done well in your work. You are rewarded with more work ;)

Although it seems like players are somehow more likely to cheat by having adventures in DUngeon, they're no more likely than under the current system where you can just order them yourself anyway. The sealed section is a neat idea though..but agreed that it just made for ugly pages and a lot of work cutting it open.

As for certs, I think it's a cool idea and actually a GREAT WAY FOR DUNGEON TO ADVERTISE. As I've noted in other posts, most players are discouraged by their DM about knowing which adventure they're playing..even though it's cooler to be able to say, "Yea, I remember that adventure..we kicked the kobold/half-jermalaine's butts!"

Is there some value in Wil Save that I'm missing.

I've been a subscriber of Dungeon since numero uno and am pretty happy with the inclusion of Wil Save.

It's like having the Dead Alewives on board with Dungeon.

PDF downloads as follows:

Main download site should always have available:
* 4 standard 3D doors
* 2 standard 3D double doors
* 3 3D Trees
* 3D bushes (stands so that they can demonstrate concealment for more realistic combats)

Each adventure could have:
* Miniaturized 3D artwork from the scenario in fold-up (nothing super complex). Examples: NPC's, mysterious objects, pillars, thrones, etc.
* NPC flags: a picture of the NPC plus his name that the DM can hang over his DM screen (or put in his pocket protector..heh).
* ADVERTISEMENT FOR DUNGEON: most players don't know IF or WHEN they're playing a scenario from DUNGEON. Some DM's fear that their players will go cheat (get over it). You should put DUNGEON # + adventure name in each player handout and advertise DUNGEON to the players. You'll sell more magazines if DUngeon is the WORST-KEPT-SECRET.

Thanks for giving us the chance to give feedback! I've got to go back and change some answers because I did my reviews @ work where I don't have my Dungeons..my..precious..Dungeons.

Mongoose also puts out PIRATE ISLES. Nice product. Definately an authentic and gritty fantasy feel..afterall, D&D started with the theme...

The new format's the bomb. Having an actual 'direction' for Dungeon (and Dragon) should allow a LOT of productive and directional work to be done.

I'm impressed so far and really glad that you included some DM stuff in Dungeon.

jh

Since the cauldron series ends in 116, what's next?

Thanks,

jh

Mr. Jacobs:

I hope the new guidelines have some recommendations for making the 'blurbs' more useful than always ending in a question and recommending that names in scenarios be 'fantasy' names instead of the likes of "Jhil" "Bahb," etc... yea, it's a couple peeves.

jh

I love the new Dungeon & Dragon. The firm base will allow for better overall quality in the long run with more sensical integration of 'optional' materials.

Thanks,

Jay H
