Looks very good... With a few modifications on the design you could build a non-intrustive dice roller...
hmmm, I might have a new project soon...

I also find it strange that the DM is always the bad guy. I very very rarely walk away from a gaming group in no small part because I usually get roped into DMing.
However I have last strawed on a couple players;
1: I have a clear and present house rule that if you don't show for a game, another player of your choice will take over the running of your PC in situations where I can't have you out, shopping. For instance in the middle of a Githyanki Redoubt. Player literally in the middle of the gaming store threw a fit because his Paladin had entered a fight. "I would have stayed back and guarded our last campsite!" BS... your a Paladin, you go forth and slay that which is evil in the world. Such is your code... can't help it that it happened to get your injured (not killed injured).
2: Had a player insult another player out of game, at the table. They nearly came to blows. I spoke to both players aside and asked them to leave, I told the instigator he wasn't welcome back.
So it isn't ALWAYS the DM...

If you play in the Defranzo Loop gaming group DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING POST!
ok,
So my players are in The Ebon Triad, they encountered Theldrick, who proceeded to get away from them on attacks in the Center room, which they insisted on resting in repeatedly. They have such a hate for him at this point that I couldn't see not using him further in the campaign, so he and another NPC I made on the fly, got away at the end of the battle in the Temple of Hextor.
What I am planning on doing with them so far is replacing the competing adventuring group with Theldrick and his company, The Blades of Hextor, in the Arena. I am also considering adding Theldrick and company to the following spots,
-Return to Whispering Cairn as competing adventurers, although I am not sure about this option as it seems limited in scope, and he can be used much better in other venues. I am thinking of sending agents of the Blades in his stead, perhaps individuals introduced in the Arena.
-Definitely adding him as a guest at Prince Zeech's dinner party. The opportunity to force the PCs into RPing with a hated enemy in an enviroment where they cannot get violent is too good to pass on.
-Finally I want to add him as a strange bedfellow ally in the battle against Dragotha, and possibly Lashonna.
In all I think I want to advance the ideas behind the Ebon Triad's scheme and perhaps even make they're goal a legit threat to the world, post Kysuss' Rising.
Anyone have any ideas of other places I could insert Theldrick in which he could get away with harassing or fighting the PCs. I have established they have a patron of higher level providing Amulets of Recall, (Word of Recall, 1 use).
I have unwittingly succeeded in planting a true seed of hate in my players for this character, and I want to milk it for what it's worth. At the same time I want them to see him as a rival, and a bad-guy, but know he isn't the root of they're problem. I plan to do that by leaving his journal lying around often. Perhaps even letters delivered to the PCs in his name detailing issues they miss or skip. After all once he figures out that Kysuss is a harbinger, but a threat as well to his Overgod, he will fight to stop Kysuss from attaining divinity.
What I have added so far to his team:
-Theldrick, human Clr of Hextor,
-Raeneth, human ftr, LE, massive strength
-Cid of Blades, Drow Ftr/Rog, Beholden to the Drow City of Riluaven, located in the Hellfurnaces far to the south. (possible link with events of Shackled City)
-Mael, Human Barbarian, Massive strength, uses a maul as a weapon,
-adding Khellek, and a misguided Alruic and Kirra to his group as well. Khellek is becoming a secret cultist of Kysuss, using the Seekers to gather information regarding the Cult.
I am restructuring the cult into Cells, no two cells neccasarially know what the other is doing. The search for the Rod of Eight Parts section now in the PC's possession brought Khellek to the Town of Diamond Lake, he has no idea of the hidden Temple. Although if the PCs spread the news around town he will contact the dragon implicit in Blackstone Keep, and inform her of the PCs part in it's destruction.
Auric and Kirra are unwitting pawns in Khellek's grand game of Dragonchess, a game in which he typically secretly gloats at by talking of Dragon Chess strategy during battle and in social surroundings. This can be played out later via suggestion, and even dominate person spells especially on Kirra as per my campaign she is CG, and likes the PCs moxie, having encountered them in the brawl at the Feral Dog.
So, what do you think folks? I have made a recurring, but minor villain. Any suggestions on further places to place him, or perhaps better ways to use Balabar Smenk (a PC tried to swindle him early in the campaign and spent a night in jail with a sore jaw, hates Smenk quite a lot already). How about The Faceless One, I like the simulacrum idea floating around on the boards, but am unsure how to pull it off. Perhaps as a minion of Lashonna's via leadership feat?
Let me know opinions and suggestions are ALWAYS appreciated...

PS if you are one of my players and just read this post, I am docking you 4000xp, and putting you on notice, use the knowledge in game and you will be terminated from the table...
Has anyone made, or thought of making a smartphone app from the PFSRD website. I think it could be an immensely helpful application for DMs with players who summon, or even just to keep track of your rules without needing to have 50 books on the table, precariously balanced amongst Mtn Dew cans.
I am no programmer, but I think that the framework is all present. Someone out there, if you program it, I know at least one group that will come use it.

As for order 1487664, it is still awaiting the "Skull & Bones (a pound of assorted dice in an ivory bag)" to come in from distribution. If you look at your confirmation email, you will see that this order is scheduled to ship from our warehouse in 7 to 14 business days, and this is because of this dice bag. The order was placed on Tuesday of last week, so today is the 6th business day since the order was placed. This information appears in the product description, on the "View Cart" page, and on the shipping confirmation page.
I can move the Skull dice bag to a new order, but UPS Next Day Air shipping for this order is going to be over $80. UPS 2nd Day Air would be about $47, and I am willing to mark it as a Saturday delivery (not a service we normally offer), but this increases the shipping costs by $20. I can cut that in half for you, making it $57 in shipping for 2nd Day Air with Saturday delivery.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
Thanks,

Wow, ok, well I can deal without the S&B till it gets to me, if you could please do move it to a new order, and put me down for the 57$ shipping (ouch). Normally I would have tried to avoid it, but green DM needs gaming material badly...
Thanks Cosmo!

Please re-process the order as follows at noon tommorrow (I get paid sometime tonight)
Please ship 1487664 immediately
I had been hoping to get that by Saturday... If the shipping costs total less then 40$ please ship overnight.

whoa there!
Vs Bare flesh as our meter, an axe is gonna do a LOT of things a sword won't.
A good edged sword will cut to the bone, but rarely would it dismember an opponet. The Axe on the other hand used by an average wielder will shatter bone beneath the cut, due to the wieght and heft of the swing.
so I can get hit by a sword and bleed profusely,
or I can get hit by an axe, and bleed profusely crying about my poor broken arm/leg/chest whatever got hit.
The axe saw more promient and wider use simply because it did work against most things, armored opponet or not, if you got hit with an axe, you knew it.
A prime example is the German Bearded axe, used by knights on or off horseback to take down armored opponets both on horseback and of foot. Light enough to use one handed, but still in the flanged mace wieght category, the axe had it's wieght used on a single cutting edge at the end of a curved handle.
Think of a hammer, your not going to knock a nail in with just the hammer head, the momentum of the swing comes from the handle, and a curved handle increases that momenteum, and adds the angle neccasary for throwing as well.
The axe saw MUCH wider use throughout the world then any of the swords you are speaking of, simply cause it is simple to use, powerful as all get out and on bare flesh will DISMEMBER an opponet.
If we are using the bare flesh allegory, I disagree entirely with your statement.

Hey everyone,
I will shortly be in possession of both the Greyhawk 4 section, and Forgotten Realms four sections put out by our illustrious hosts here. I was wondering what are the best ways you all have found to mount them on the walls of your gaming space. I want to hang them up so that there is glass over them to use dry erase on, but have been unable to find a reasonably priced framing estimate.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this particular problem.

when you buy these from a store not selling singles they are sold in random booster packs, so the rarity issue is a problem when it comes to pricing for the singles market.
The Huge Red Dragon pricing here is about dead on actually compared to what you would pay at a FLGS, or via ebay...

::grins:: oo this a good question!
1. An AP that picks up at 14 level, where mos to the Pathfinder books leave off.
2. More on the underground in Korvosa. In one of the backgrounds you talked about a civillzation of vampires, and hinted at orgainized undead nations living beneath the City.
3. Exploration of the path to Divinity with the Cathedral of the Starstone.
4. A World Ending event, similar to the Githyanki Incursion.
5. Non-world Ending events for high level characters.... (I know I am horrible, asking for both).
6. The Frozen North, and explortaion of the Hollow World...
7. a Thieves Guild style Urban campaign... 1-14...
8. A Pirate campaign... perhaps exploring the Eye...
9. A Luck based core class... (from the Bumpkin to Captain Jack Sparrow...)
10. A Dragon Hunt (change from Halfdragon Firegiants to 1/2 dragon Kobolds... how do you tell, they have wings, that's about it...)
11. Vampire Goblins... (yes, I am an evil dm)
12. Exploration on the origin of Aberrations... Far Realm adventures..
13. A paladin king leads a raid on Hell... (Diablo style)
14. Tomb of the Lichking... Desert/Pyramaid campaign based on egyptian undead, and harkening back to the Tomb of Horrors...
15. Evil Druids...
16. Spelljammer, planetary exploration, exploration of the Elven homeworld.
17. Exploration into where Baba Yaga comes from...
18. two kings in countries at war are replaced, one by a pit fiend the other by a balor...
19. Redeem the Blackgaurd...
20. Capture the rogue special agent of the government...
I am sure I will come up with others, but thsoe are all themes that have gone over well with my players in the past campaigns we have run. They are time proven classics, and are easilly (in most cases) addressed in Golarian. I would love to see any of them...

Alternatively, if the new payment method is one we already have on file, I can set it for you. Just let me know which one you'd like to use either here or via email. Okie... soo
YOu are considering using handwraps, rings or bracers as a way of creating magic effects into the monk's hands... I have a suggestion.
I have long used the handwraps as magic enhancers in my game without it breaking anything. I simply charged the same for the handwrap as you would for a MWK weapon of similar damage, and the requisite magic enhancment. This has worked in the past, but we were trying to find a way to include the monk in temporary magical weapons.
The way we decided to do this was to make magical enhancement as tattoos on the hands and forearms (a +10 enhancement took up the WHOLE arm... giving reason for it to limit they're enhancements), temporary ability enhancements or magical abilities on the blade where done with henna painting and a command word...
It worked out well in my campaign world... and kinda speaks to the "Tattooed Monk" archtype...
EDIT: I really like Plognark's suggestion as well. A monk using his Flurry as a pounce would make them into "THE" Mage killer and lock they're posistion in the hierchy. Perhaps do a dual path, with one side getting to flurry at the end of a charge (Jackie Chan in LEgend of Drunken Master), and the other dealing more and more damage. (flying jump kicks, ala the late great Bruce Lee).
EDIT II: I also really liked the suggesstion (whose escapes me at the moemnt) of a Ki point cost ability to deliver an attack as a touch attack. I think it should however be taken a step further and apply till the beginning of the next turn...
Thanks for Listening,

I dislike the new 4.0 rules so much I BORROWED the books rather then buy them. This is from someone who enjoyed Complete Champion mind you... ::sighs:: WotC thou haft forsaken thine fan-base...

Timespike wrote: Okay. It's been a while, so I think I can go here at this point. It may seem like heresy, but I'd rather have Pathfinder than the "official" mags. No, really. Pathfinder is ad-free, has a setting I actually care about showcased, and has top-notch editing and production values. The monsters are unique and cool, the setting is both fresh and familiar, and the whole thing is just so much more compelling. I'm glad Paizo didn't decide to just publish "wyvern" and "labyrinth" for instance. Because what we got was far superior. I for one am glad to follow Paizo in they're endeavors. They have long ago proven to be more willing to work with, and listen to, they're fans then WotC.
I am not a fan of the all digital format of the "new" Dragon and Dungeon e-mags... I do not subsribe to them, and probably never will. I do enjoy having a digital copy of my existing books however as it is quicker to transit, and works better with my career choice. (I am in the Army).
That said, I am happy to know I have my archive of hardcopies in acid free 3ring binder sleeves sitting in my home, waiting for me to get home and lovingly re-pour over.
I will not be buying 4e, or any other WotC product released after the Rules Compedium. I was frankly disgusted by the RCs use of recycled art from Dungeon and Dragon magazines, and various other books from WotC, and the book would never have entered my collection had it not been such a quick reference tool. As such, it sits in my bag, away from the cherished Shelf, in shame...
My Pathfinder material, sits on the shelf above my 3.5 books, which in turn sit above my AD&D gear. I still reference all three, and will continue too. But if somone were to ask me the path that Dungeons and Dragons took in 2008... I will tell them that Paizo Publishing launched Pathfinder, an OGL 3.5 compatible game, to counter a money grab by WotC,
Whether or not Pathfinder is here to stay is still not for me to say. I am sinply a consumer... however, so long as I manage to remain online, and so long as I manage to have money to pay for it.
Pathfinder is my game of choice.

I bring up this again to show that it could be done. We can change the durations and what not but the mechanics already exist, just in another form.
Good point... I agree that a floating slot would be great, but my players seem to desire the ability to use it to more be more versitile (sp),
with that in mind, I came up with the following addedum:
"Floating Spell Slot" Beginnning at 1rst level, a sorcerer gains 1 extra spell slot at they're highest effective level. They can at any time make a spellcraft check (DC=CL+Spell Level) as a move action that does provoke attacks of oppurtunity (sp) to identify an opposing caster's spell (divine or arcane), and can adopt that spell assuming it's level does not EXCEED they're spell slots level. They can then cast this spell with uses of it's equivilant level spell use per day, or as a swift action, remove the spell from they're floating slot. A Sorcerer who sleeps 8 hours with a spell intact in his slot, may choose to replace a known spell with his current "floating spell" selection. This final ability does not apply to spells of the Healing Subschool.
That would I think give it an edge over the Wizard, make the Sorcerer into a Great counterspell user, (makes sense for somone who can sense the ebb and flow of magic from birth), and sets up how they are so in tune with magic to begin with.
I am not particularly fond of one aspect of the Bloodlines traits... Do you realize how many people in converted modules, would have wings... Just food for thought...
~Elvnsword
Dear Paizo Customer Service,
I was under the impression, based on your "permissionary" letters to my email, that when I was charged for my subscription I would be able to dl content from said subscription. This is especially important ot me as my wife is archiving my pathfinders for me at home while I am in Iraq, and the DL versions are all I get.
Is this wrong, or is there just a delay today, since I can't seem to locate Pathfinder 9 in my downloads... ty
Sincerely,

I am currently running both the Rise of the Runelords and The Curse of the Crimson Throne. It is taking me roughly a week of prep time each to convert NPCs over to the new system. So far the thing that has been a real stumper for the PCs were the Ogrekin in RotR, I had to subsitute Fighter for Ranger (as it isn't out yet *tear*), and it makes for a bit more impact on the PCs I think...

Ok, been lurking a bit now, and here is what I have seen in my own experiance.
The new Bloodline mechanic works wonderfully. It is a sincere attempt at increasing the effectivness of Sorcerers but I feel it is not enough. Of all the posts here, I see a few that stand out, or refelect houserules I have used for a long time.
"seekerofshadowlight,
Eschew Materials Give it to em at 1st and make it improve as they level maybe at 5/10/15/20 or/6/12/18
Sacrifice the flesh Allow them to burn HP for extra spell's when they run out or to add metamagic without the level incress may something like 3x1, 2x1 and 1x1 progression at 6,14,18 maybe"
I have used Eschew Materials for Sorcerers for a LONG Time, usaully replacing the familar...
I like the idea of a "floating" spell slot which the Sorcerer can use to cast a spell the enemy knows he does not. It is a nifty idea, and could be maximized in usefullness with the ability to swap that floating slot's current charge (ie shocking hands for example is cast at you), for an existing spell on your list at waking, or at level up. This would increase overall versitility and give an idea of where they get they're understanding of they're powers. ("Ooo I bend reality this way, and this happens...)
I agree that a the Spell tax, and the metamagic wait time, are too much of a punishment for the Sorc. They are suppose to be quick in the casting, quick thinking, neer-do-wells using magic to make they're way in the world.
Also, perhaps consider putting UMD on they're skill list, along with a bonus to it. Magic in the blood would call to magic in an item I think, maybe even an innate ability to tell "what somthing should do," such as a powered down variant on the Identify spell usable @ will or a #/day.
Also, some of my players came up with these over the years as alternates for the Famialr (our most hated of features):
Imbue Bolt: you imbue a bolt with energy of your affinity (fire, lightning, cold), the bolt deals an extra 1d6 damage. This ability is usable as long as you have spells remaining.
Scream: you unless an unnerving howl that sounds nothing like what should come from a civillized creature, everyone within 30 feet must make a will save (DC 10+CL) or be shaken.
Final Strike: by expending every spell use you have for the day you deal to yourself and everyone in 150ft damage equal to 1d4 per spell used in this fashion. This damage hits you as well, and you may not make the reflex save for half.
All in all myself and my player base are loving your new content, It is ingenious in increasing the output of the core classes, as the power level of 3.5 in general has crept up in the last two years.
Thank you for all your hard work!
It is appreciated!
~Elvnsword & Crew,
Dear Paizo Publishing,
As always your customer service never ceases to amaze me with it's quality. You try, and that is somthing not a lot of other companys do.
I am refering specifically to my last few orders, and the questions that have come up about them.
I am stationed in Iraq at the moment, and not in contact with the vast majority of my D&D gear. My wife is doing an admirable job of gaming with our regular group and keeping the dust off, but I have ran into a problem of not knowing what I have ordered.
This was simplified very conviently by your inclusion of a "order history." somthing I havn't seen in another website in a long time, at least anywhere it is easy to access.
Any problem I have EVER had has been quickly and respectfully resolved by your fine Customer Service, and I applaude them.
Thank You...
Elvnsword
PS: I applaude your other departments as well, I am glad we are all staying 3.5 togther...

Unearthed Arcana p.72
A little overpowered, but good if you are running a small game or high power game.
Another option is to just give them the Gestalt Class Features at 1st level and then they level up normally after that. Hmmm, a little houserule for all of you.
UA Pg 72, allow the "Best of Both Classes" for first level only, and then multiclass normally afterwords.
EXCEPTION: Primary Spellcasting classes take the average of they're prospective classes hd, rather then the top hd. (To prevent Sorc/Barb, Wiz/Barb combo mostly (IE a Sorc/barb is running at d8, not d12, still an advantage, but not as great of one)...
That being said I have ran Gestalt games here in Iraq, as I have two players at the moment, due to limitations on time more then anything else, Gestalt seemed the way to go. Let me tell ya, a Ftr/Sorc, and a Rog/Clr team gets VERY bad!@# very fast... I am having to Gestalt my NPCs for climatic battles, and somtimes adding as much as 4 to the CR of encounters over what was written in Savage Tide. So I would not suggest the Gestalt combos to be permanet options in a campaign, but I have discovered that allowing it as a reward for major story objectives, (ie god takes favor with you, granting you access to spells, and a boost in saves as if you had taken the first level of clr, when you next level in fighter)... works quite well. I could see it working equally well in filling this need for 0/0 level multiclassed characters. Especially since they will be leveling normally past that point.

The Real Orion wrote: This combination didn't sit too well, with me. I'm reminded of the U2 song that goes "it's true that a liar won't believe in anyone else." Just because you're good at lying doesn't mean you're good at telling that other people are lying.
Also, as you say, it's useful for way more things that that. I've always thought of Sense Motive as a general read of a person's body language, mood, and, well, motives. If someone's not lying (i.e, using the Bluff skill), Sense Motive can give you an idea of whether they trust what they're saying to you, how confident they are, etc. It might seem streamlined to combined opposing skills into one, but I don't think it makes logical sense and I think it removes some flexibility that I like in the skill system as is.
By the same arguement, Deception still reads into that idea that you can use body laungauge, words, and even intention to tell a bluff... You can also, as the DM, edit what information they get about why they know the person is being deceptive, or perhaps even that "he trusts his information but seems stilted in the speaking of it, as if another force controls him from on far" :D It is all up to the DM on this one. So while I agree that it is perhaps better to keep seperate to remind folks they do more then one thing, with the new setup, and description, it is fairly easy to use them in all the same ways they were used before...

In Ref to the OP:
I was still in shock from the cancellation of Dungeon and Dragon Magazines, when they broke the long held silence, and still without really addressing the cancelation of a magazine series that has ran for a LONG time, (20 years or more?), they announce 4E and suddenly it is startilingly clear and present to my mind. They cancelled Dungeon, they cancelled Dragon, so they would have control of official content.
"Well," I told myself "mabye this won't be so bad... perhaps they will fix grapple, and polymorph" (both pains in my side). Then the previews began, each dropping farther and farther from source then the last. When they started into the "everyone has use per day and magic abilities" I lost it. I lost my faith that WotC wouldn't screw me. I lost my faith, already shaken by a few book releases that were lackluster, and the cancellation of my favorite magazines... that my favorite game publisher had my best interest at heart. I lost it. It became startlingly clear that, they're bottom line, was the bottom line. That black mark at the edge of the red finances...
Now to put exactly how I felt into context, I have to explain somthing. I use to work at a gaming store. When I started there it was a place that kids hung out all day at, games were played for the players, and all in all it was an AWESOME FLGS. Then, the owner, for reasons I won't go into, began being more worried about how much the place drew in. we were making our bottom line as a FLGS, but he wanted more. So we changed the Saturday night scene, and put in a poker tournament, I protested and refused to work with that crowd, which were often rowdy enough coming in that it was clear the amount they had had to drink already. Long story short, I got fired, and the place tanked without me, as the parents, and kids, who were the true support for the store, decided that I, (the local college kid in the education program), was the trustworthy one, and the owner, was not, since he was gambling, and allowing drunks in his store...
I feel the same thing is happening now. WotC being my FLGS and the new feel being the undesirable crowd. I don't want to run a game that resembles WoW meeting Ruroni Kenshin... I don't want every character throwing fireballs, I don't want the Wizard and Sorcerer to be able to always use spells... I want D&D not MMO...
They don't seem to understand that... and they don't seem to care what they're old, supporting crowd, wants and needs out of they're product. So I felt, frankly, betrayed... I felt like the wool had been pulled over my eyes, the rug pulled from under me, and the breath knocked out of me all in one go. It was bad.
Lucky for me, Pathfinder comes along. Here is Paizo, an old friend at this point, seeing what I see (imho), seeing a need for that old feel gamers who are the main support have thrived on for 30+ years. Dungeons, deep dank places, of danger and darkness, and Dragons, mythical titans of magical and physical stature... pitted agianst the best our wits can toss out there. They put out the first series of modules and I was blown away. For the first time in years, I ran modules as written....
Then they announced it... the split, Pathfinder RPG! Wow Loot...
I am sticking with you Paizo Community, Pathfinder... 4e be damned...
o and can I point out... Gnomes Rock...

Do the PDF copies come with a PDF version of the map?
thanks in advance for the answer

While I am a firm supporter of paper product, i find myself stuck in the desert with a group of maniacs calling themselves A Company...
I am unwilling to expose my magaiznes and books to this and so have been running everything off my SRD and my laptop, which still has four years under warranty. (I can get the sand vacummed out professionall...)
As such I was wondering when/if the folks here at Paizo were going to put the rest of savage tide into PDF format. I already have a hardcopy of each issue, and would just like to have it in my portable, more desert friendly version.
Thanks
Elvnsword
OK, got a combo for a BBEG, Armed with dualwielded Harpoons (both +3 Returning), and a net... The net is made of adamantium, with a rig of four immovable rods at the corners of the net...
BBEG Throws net, locks down PC, throws Harpoon (2d6+3, and again when it returns (they deal damage on removal)), until dead... :D I am thinking of slapping this onto a Seagoing Frost Giant... What do you guys think??

I second the Ankylosaurus! nothing says armored badass like a Dwarf Paladin in Fullplate riding atop a naturally armored celestial mount...

Erik,
I am for one NOT going to 4e, I simply have put to much time and energy into 3.5 to consider changing before I use up all my materials
I can understand the drive your publishing company is under to update to 4.0 and the need to "keep up."
I am here to ask you not to. 4E is killing out sacred cows, wiping out 30+ years of campaign setting with greyhawk, and dropping a lot of "make it cool" announcements that seem more anime then D&D. If I had wanted to play anime based RPGs I would go to BESM... not a new edition of D&D.
I heartily urge you to update the SRD to your own standard with this 3.75, and know that myself and my gaming group will follow you.
The only thing WotC is getting my money from me for is minis... and only cause I can't paint.
Sincerely
Elvnsword

As for the earlier sentiment, I am keeping my Pathfinder subscription thank you, it is following me to the desert and back agian. Keep making quality products Paizo crew, I will keep buying them. (Note in this posters Humble opinion, 4Ed is not quality).
