dextro is right about "the White Boar of Kilfray"..the writer (willie walsh i believe) had a great run in dungeon at this time. we strung his adventures into a great-low fantasy campaign in the Thillronian pennisula (conveting from celtic to nordic cultures). anyone know what he's doing now?

we're starting with 1st level characters on the 8th. our main characters are in the middle of Night Below (midsummer-586cy). We going to run the 4 published adventures of the AoW in 592 cy.

the party:

Human/M Paladin(Heironious)
Human/M Fighter
1/2Elf/F Bard
1/2Elf/ Druid (Obad Hai)
1/2Elf Ranger

I've found a group here who are starting a 3.5 Shackled City campaign in the Eberron setting who are willing to let me & 2 of my players sit in with group. I figure it'll be better to play a bit before deciding to do the all work necessary for a conversion and discover 2 months after that we don't like it. Thanks for all the advice & observations....any suggestions on a single classed character that would give me a feel for the 3.5 systems?

the follow up adventure to Lady of the Mists was The Lady's Mirror in #52

To Phoenix--it was Lady of the Mists from #42. I ran it our Greyhawk campaign and also in Ravenloft (where it worked even better)....wonderfully written adventure---i believe there was a follow up to it but can't remember what issue

Great house rule Qbert--i'm going to present it to the group (you'll be credited----and certainly thanked).......

thanks much for the rapid response & considered opinions. I've had the DMG & PHB laying around for about 5 months. Guess its time to take a look....

i'm 48 on the 22nd of october- starting playing in 1980 & began DMing in '82. very strange sensation to write 48.....something between angst & whimsy....is anyone out there older than me?

I concur on #s 11 & 13 and would add #s 37 & 56 (i've used every adventure in both of those issues)..The Mudsorcerers's Tomb is my favorite dungeon crawl from the magazine.

My gaming group has been together since 1980 & i've been running the campaign since '82 (based in Greyhawk). The core group has remained constant, though 60 some odd other players have participated. My questions:
What are the basic differences in 2E & 3E (it seems like power gaming)?

How easy is it for old time player to grasp the new system?

Is the 3rd Edition clearly superior to the 2nd?

thanks for any input.

first off, a hearty well done for running that entire battle. while phillp t.'s point is dead on (i generally stage battles to serve the plot line), i ran a few like that when i was a young dm & well appreciate the trouble you went to; and believe me, your players do also. you ran a great session.

secondly, you're a true dungeon master. the fact that your stressing so much after such an excellent evening of adventure proves it even more that the trouble you went to prepare it.

there are some great ideas in the other posts on this thread, but i'm absolutely convinced you'd have found a solution without them.

bravo........keep it up..

Take a look at the Wizards of the Coast & Canonfire websites--There was an unpublished 2nd edtion gazateer for the Great Kingdom that could be downloaded for free (with maps)on one of them. Its an excellent resource.

Vandal Hex-human Mage from Perrenland. Began in 1980 with B1-5, then White Plume Mt, Temple of Elemental Evil, the Slavelords, & Queen of Spiders (& was one of two survivors of the Tomb of Horrors); he became the motivating force behind the campaign when I took over as DM. He met his end when the adventurers he sponsored recovered a Deck of Many Things in 2002--he drew the Void Card (thought I could get him to 17th level on the sly)...22 years of adventuring shot in one bad draw.......
