Cool! Where's his dog?!?
Coitinly! I sense a disturbance in the force when Kruelaid asks for a dog, so I have to say yes.
To Update:
1) Kruelade said "one goon, coming up."
2) Aubrey said dual-wielding halfling barbarian raised by goblins;
3) Mothers said rogue, maybe wilderness rogue
4) Vatters said straight wizard;
5) Alex Martin said paladin or cleric
6) Haven't heard from Ragadolf
7) I emailed Daigle; he sounds in but has stuff to handle
8) Fakey looking at battle sorceror or sorceror/rogue;
Mothers, Kruelade--I'm thinking this run will be a little more on the wilderness/dungeony side than an urban adventure, although Saltmarsh intentionally has many denizens that "need killin'."
Urban rogue sounds cool...
That's cool.
I might have to dmpc an extremely ecclesiastic windbag of a Cuthbertian Cloistered Cleric.
Right on. Fakey was wondering who was doing what for the party roster.
Hey! Tobus Neth opted out of the game, so you're in if you like.
Huzzah!!!
Right on. Alex Martin's in. Tobus opted out.
I'll carry ye as an alternate, dude.

If possible, I'd like to play a straight Wizard. I'm thinking that I'll be a refugee of sorts from the fallout after Overking Ivid's madness. I'll flesh it out further over the weekend.
2 wizards won't be bad. Not sure whether I am doing a Battle Sorcerer, rogue/evoker/daggerspell mage, or plain Evoker. What are your plans so I can try not to overlap too much.
Check my recent threads on my profile; I saw your last post appear 4 hours later and responded, and now they've both disappeared again, as if into the mists of a somnolent miasma.
And with that, I gotta bail for 2-3 hours...

Fake Healer wrote: Alright I am divided on what I should do for this game. I have 3 ideas that I like and want to toss out both to see what would be more welcome for the party.
1. Battle Sorcerer, taking the Human Paragon levels ASAP. Easy to run, fun style, a bit hardier than a typical caster with more limited spell selection. Light armor is nice also.
2. Rogue/Evoker heading for Daggerspell mage PRC. If we don't have a rogue in the party this would be a good alternative. Sneak attack with channeled touch spells through Barbed daggers sounds tasty also...eventually.
3. Straight Evoker, with human paragon levels. Using the Evoker variant, Energy affinity, in unearthed arcana. Good power, hellagood artillary, somewhat more flexible in the casting area than the others. No armor, low hit points(somewhat boosted by the Paragon levels though).
So I guess my main questions are; How many of us are there? And who wants what roles?
I don't like having too much overlap. I would hate being the rogue/Evoker if someone is gonna fill the rogue role. If we have someone doing a straight caster I wouldn't want to be a straight evoker.
What roles are taken?
Fakey--just wanted to say that this post just appeared for me. Little server problems maybe at Paizo; idk; a ton of my posts just disappeared but should return.
Battle sorcerer sounds good, so do paragon levels;
lessee...
1) Kruelade said maybe thug;
2) Aubrey said dual-wielding halfling barbarian raised by goblins;
3) Mothers said he wanted a straight fighter, but might be a rogue; at which point Kruelade said he hadn't settled on a thug 100% yet;
4) Vatters said straight wizard;
5) Tobus didn't say yet
6) Haven't heard from Ragadolf
7) I emailed Daigle; he sounds in but has stuff to handle
8) Fakey
I don't believe that two roguish types would necessarily be a hindrance.

I totally would, but I don’t want to slow things up with my restricted posting while I deal this annoyance. Thanks for the offer though, sounds awesome. Dude, when you get things squared away, and if you feel like jumping in a couple months down the line or whatever, let me know. I'm all about dungeonmaster quid pro quo. ;)
Straight wizard should be cool.
In the southern province of Keoland where Saltmarsh is located, wizards are looked at with some suspicion. No Malleus Malifecarum per se, but the people are superstitious.
The tiled rooftops of Saltmarsh are perches for pictlis, little stone humanoid gargoyles that ward away the more pesky feyfolk.
A plate of kippers, a bowl of warm milk, and a button or other innocuous gewgaw left on the porch are known to give them succour.
It's bad luck to touch a wizard's shadow.
Aub's, the Dreadwood is chock full of goblins, and....halflings raised by worgs...wouldn't be the strangest of its perils.
Oh, and here is some more in-depth information about Keoland geographically and politically. I downloaded and printed it out. The map is small; Saltmarsh isn't on it, but there's a nice breakdown of the provinces.

Couldn't help sticking my nose into this thread, since I have fond memories of U1, running it in 3 editions of D&D.
Don't know if you're aware, Heathy, but

It's hard to explain, and I hope it will make some kind of sense when the times for revelation occur. I also hope it doesn't fall flat on its face...

Alex Martin wrote: Hello there,
It looks like you have a long list of potential candidates at this point, so I'd like to sign as an alternate/standby if you're keeping a list.
I remember the Saltmarsh series of old (in the module) - but I'll admit it's been a long while so my actual knowledge is fuzzy - still it was an interesting game and I enjoyed it. It was a little strange to see they had updated it for the DMG II - its always stuck with me as the classic backwater town.
Anyhow, just wanted to inquire and throw my hat in the ring. Let me know if there's room when its convenient.
I'll put you as alt#1.

Kruelaid wrote: I really want to use the Thug fighter variant. It's a seriously urban character class, though. I guess it would be a laugh when he gets out in the wilderness.
"SO where do you buy yer food, guys?"
Thug'll be fine; I haven't thought of the wilderness repercussions.
Psionics...I don't like to be a limiter, but I'm not the biggest expert on psionics.
Aubrey the Malformed wrote: dungeonmaster heathy wrote: Rock on! I hope I do half as good a job as you. You'd better - I'll be whining in the background if you don't.
Maybe you specified above - starting level 1? By the way, I totally missed the glory days of Greyhawk and all I know about Saltmarsh is what I briefly read through once in the DMG2 when I first got it. Yeah, I'll start her out at level one.
Kruelaid wrote: Are we gonna be spending a lot of time in town? It's a possibility. I have a few ideas along those lines. I've got dungeon and wilderness lined up. I'm trying to insure that interesting things could be going on in town though.
Rock on! I hope I do half as good a job as you.

Talking about stats and rolling, a guy in my RotRL campaign at school rolled and confirmed 4 crits in a row. He basically wiped out a whole squad of goblins in Sandpoint by himself.
I can write all my memories of U1 on a post-it note, so nobody look at me for advice.
Ligubrious Scroll of Kruelisch--eerie stuff, that.
Fake Healer wrote: I love you, brother. Know that I am down with this and look forward to Gaming with you, yet again.
What is available from Unearthed Arcana? I haven't gone with a full-fledged caster for a while so I may grab a variant sorc or Wizo.
EDIT: Never played in Saltmarsh.

Check it out, run it by me; I'm usually down for whatever; I'm just not the world's most crack dungeonmaster anymore so I have to study up on stuff. I have that book.
What I lack in experience, though, I make up for in sheer berserk lunacy.
(edit)oh, and as an aside, I'm going to use the Saltmarsh out of the DMG II, only with a lot of the DM secret stuff retooled, so don't feel bad if you know that the lady who works at the Perfumery is really a Thrall of Nyarlathotep's Avatar Parish Ilton.

This is who I have that has expressed interest; if anybody opts out I'll consider others, but 8 or 9's about all I dare try to handle.

Ragadolf

Kruelaid

MW Beeler, you're also welcome, although if you have stuff to handle,...
I'll have trouble running a game during working hours, so I'm more inclined to evenings and/or weekends.
1st level characters, 32 point buy, max starting gold. ask me first about the odd stuff.
I have Book of Nine Swords, don't have Tome of Magic; have many of the splat books--don't have the second magic splatbook or complete champion; have complete scoundrel.
I have no problem with rolling on the honor system. If I see 5 crit's in a row from one character though, know that I had College Statistics!!!!! 20 years ago.
The game's going to start in the World of Greyhawk, in Keoland, near a town called Saltmarsh. You've all responded to an inquiry by the forces at Fort Bale, near the Hool Marshes, to hire on as mercenaries.
I'm not the world's foremost Greyhawk Scholar by any means, but I've been doing some homework, and got a lot of ideas and/or direction for more research from Sam Weiss.
I'm heading towards U1-Sinister Secrets of Saltmarsh; if you've played it before it's hunky dorey because I'm tricking it out a little bit. I think Kruelaid said he played it long ago.
