If you are considering buying this then you have probably read the PHB1 already and know what 4e is so all I will say is that the classes included are generally fun to play and somewhat more complex than the PHB1 classes. Rule additions/clarifications are nice and the general growth in customization for PCs is great.

If I had to knock it for anything it would be that I would have liked to have all this goodness rolled in the PHB1 but given the quality of the material I would say it was worth both the wait and the two book price tag.

If you do pick this up I would also suggest getting the DDI subscription for at least one person in your group (currently 5$/mo) for the use of the character generator. Given the depth of information included it is a steal.

My only complaint with the product was the long-eared elf pic, how the frick does she sleep?

Other than that it was a fun read and should be even more fun to play. I liked the font size since it showed that this was the opposite of padding, it was an attempt to get the most into limited space.
