James, I'm sorry to make a big deal out of this, and I totally understand where you're coming from, but I believe it's possible to make names that are NOT Japanese names and yet could still FEASIBLY be Japanese names.
Even reading this was a huge waste of time. Performing the actions you suggest would be a fantastically huge waste of time.

As far as paying for a game system;
A PS2 cost over $200.00, when 3rd edition came out.
I bought the first run of the 3rd edition core rule books and the were $19.95. So I paid $60 for all three books.
An xbox cost over $300.00 when 3.5 came out.
All three core 3.5 books would cost about $90.
So now with the PS3 game system (Playstation 3rd edition) costing $800, 4th edition D&D will still be a bargain for an upgraded game experience (My players all agree, I am better than any computer game, 100 xp all arround). At least I hope.
Beyond the question of 4thed being good or not (I do not know and neither does anyone here) I don't think your measuring stick applies. The 360 (or ps3 if that is your thing) is a LOT better than a ps2 or original xbox. For the same to be said of the new dnd version it will have to be twice as fun and 100 times as flashy as the original game, which seems pretty damn unlikely even if it is fun to play. not to mention the PS3 is definitely not flying off the shelf, perhaps related to its extreme price vs. quality? And at the same time the wii IS flying off at a price near to your original ps2 despite the lack of bells and whistles.
I think if there is any parallel with pnp hobby gaming it is that just because you were the king five years ago cant make up for a lack of FUN in your products now.
If you have problems opening a 20meg file, it is not the fault of your old machine it is the fault of ADOBE and their bloated reader. I am running Foxit reader and the pdfs look great and I have noticed no slowing with anything I have opened in it.
So yeah, I could care less about bookmarks but "One file to rule them all..." and add a link to non-adobe pdf reader options for those with slowdown issues.

This film had: Ancient history, Greeks, Persians, Swords, Spears, Monsters and Boobies. All things that I love. The movie still managed to stink. It was well manufactured but the complete lack of historical veracity and the constant right-wing drumbeat ruined it for me.
If it was a Hercules episode it would have been ok, but it did not claim to be, it claimed to be a retelling of an ancient tale of something that actually happened.
It's fine to not have exactly the right armor or to have mythical creatures and such.. but in reality Sparta was a brutal land where a caste of warriors lived off the labor of an entire race of enslaved people. In the film the happy peasants looked on lovingly at their noble masters. In real life the Spartans greatest fear was that their slaves who outnumbered them would successfully overthrow them. Slavery was common at that time but even other greeks considered it barbaric to enslave their fellow greeks.
In the film Leonidas taunts the Athenians (art & freedom loving proto-democrats) about being gay. In real life the Agogi (sp?) system of Sparta promoted young boys living with older men to form a male-only martial & sexual bond. When a boy was old enough to take a wife she had her head shaved and they were introduced in the dark so it would be more like what he was used to. Even once married a warrior lived with the other warriors.
But in general the message was: Foreigners are all evil sex-perverts and less than human, so kill them! And if anyone says mindless war might be a bad idea? They are traitors!!!! I liked Sin City and the comics it was based on but in 300 Miller took a real historical event and wizzed all over it to justify his own political leanings. It was a huge love letter to totalitarian right wing politics and it made me want to puke.
So yeah, sorry to go all Comic Book Guy on a movie that was out a long time ago but I have rarely been as pissed at a movie as I was at this one.

Awesome Thanks Gary for getting it up and running.
'Zactly what I was bout to say, considering the issues with my order it is a pleasant surprise to be dling it now.

Beetle, you ever think that if you have so much spare time to devote to cheerleading the drug war that you could be using it more effectively? Like writing love notes to Alberto Gonzalez? I'm sure he could use one right now.
Since everyone else seems to feel the need to place disclaimers:

I have smoked pot. I smoked a good deal of it. It was a lot of fun. I have a good paying engineering job and a lovely woman. My friends are well adjusted fun people to be around and some of them smoke pot. The only hard drug I have ever used is alcohol and nicotine (8 years free from cigs). The side effects included laughing with my friends, watching MST3K too much and eating too many snacks. My life is good.

And what does my anecdote prove? NOTHING, it is one data point and the only way to get at the truth is through collecting as many data points as possible. That is why censorious BS intended to squash dissent with the current drug war is more than the usual political annoyance. As long as it is not possible to speak openly about any subject we can never arrive at the truth.
And to Paizos: My apologies for adding to the pointless off-topic spam fest but it gets me ire up.

These days, model railroading is considerably more obscure than roleplaying games. But somehow, model railroading still has print magazines.

Hey, maybe someone should make a print magazine about dnd?
The insightful discussion here has succeeded in convincing me that there are some really uptight censorious jer- er individuals in this world.
Thanks for reminding me, I'll think of you the next time I vote.
Not to get totally off-topic but did anyone else find the online thing pretty pale considering nwn has been around for what, 6 years? I assume along with pulling the mags they will be pulling the bioware/obsidian liscence? Otherwise they have decided to go head to head at making a computer game, with companies that actually make computer games.
Best this could turn out is the rules are an interesting change, I already stopped getting wotc 3.5 books after a few seemed really weak so I would only buy the core from them anyway.
But the only people who know if the new game will be fun work at wotc, and I don't think they will be telling. So for now, I could care less.
But oh yeah on topic.. if the paths are good enough that I am still concerned about the rules being used a year from now, I'll be happy as hell!
Got the email but had some Billing issue, hope they can still get it out soon, for me that is.
If I can't read it in the bath tub I don't care how good it is. Nuff' said.
In my opine some VP of marketing read something in the wall street journal about how magazines were doing badly and sent down an order to get rid of all the magazines to put on teh interwebz where you don't have to buy ink and paper and the streets are paved with pets.com shares.
I got back into dnd after losing interest during the 2nd edition days (paritaly due to poor quality materials and partialy due to wanting to get more poon-tang) But I was pulled back in by picking up a Dungeon and seeing how vastly the quality had improved. I bought some wotc modules and was kind of puzzled why the same excitement and quality was not there. I have gotten some other lapsed buddies back into it as well and spent a metric buttload on books, minis etc. Would this have happened with a proprietary web service?
