This movie was a gory, sick and twisted tale of darkness and madness.

Good times!

But I find the PFO Kickstarter somewhat confusing.

So I pledged $35 and then manually changed the pledge to $135. Couple questions. Since the $100 was added on, do I still qualify for the Beta (am I considered at the Crowdforger level)? Also, is this how an add-on is supposed to be done (will I get the Hardcover printed Emerald Spire book)?

I just want to make sure that I am doing everything right to both get the Beta access and get the Supermodule, assuming we hit the million dollar goal.

It's me again.

Just started a once-a-month Pathfinder ROTR campaign and already had two players flake out. The two remaining players have never played any kind of tabletop RPG before; so the learning curve is extreme. But it's also a lot of fun, seeing them learn the rules to the game from the ground up! One is running a cleric; the other a wizard (but he would much rather run a ranger or rogue, so casters are welcome!)

We play one Friday evening a month, from 6ish to Midnight. I live in the corner of Rogers bracketed by Lowell and Cave Springs.

Looking for anyone close by to join in the fun. We just had one game so far, and we are still in the opening battle (with the final wave to go)....

Hey gang,

According to My Account; this shipped on July 29th, but I've seen neither hide nor hair of it on my porch. I did receive the previous order 1743123, which shipped July 25th, a little over a week ago. I know you will probably want to give it a few more days, but I wanted to give you a heads up, in case it got returned to you or something.

I'll let you know if I haven't received it by Friday.

Thanks,

Chuck Arney

Hey Cosmo;

Is it pretty weird that my order 1671951 shipped May 13th and arrived three days later and order 1689971 shipped on May 10th and hasn't arrived yet?

Both seem to be shipping Standard Postal Service. Is it a weight issue that might make the Ultimate Magic order take that much longer????

I keep expecting to find the box on my doorstep and it isn't there...

Quick question as I am posting this from my phone. Player ends up in T-Rex stomach. Wizard casts fireball at dinosaur. Does swallowed character take damage from fireball? If so, does he get a save? Half damage or quarter damage on save? Soft cover?

Opinions please. Thanks.

So after running 2 VTT 3.5 groups. and one Pathfinder face-to-face group; I finally get to play for the first time in over 3 years! And the DM wants to make it a Pathfinder game; it is also a VTT game. The problem? We need a platform in which to run it. I use Fantasy Grounds and it does have a user-created PF version, but it isn't user-friendly or easy to convert over. I got him to look into d20 Pro, but it also requires a cracked-type patch to use, and it also requires for a person to buy 2 programs to use. Also, the DM can't help with character creation/updates like he can with FG II.

I know Lisa Stevens talked about working with Smiteworks to get FG Pathfinderized, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. My DM is starting to lose his enthusiasm for the project as it becomes annoying trying to find something that might work.

So are there any ideas? Can anyone think of any other VTT platform that is ready to work with PF stuff or that is an easier patch?????

So, I was reminded once again at my game last night, how much I hate the spell Orb of Force (at least as a DM).

This spell is too good!

So they are fighting the corrupted ghaele and sword archons in the Spire of Long Shadows. Everything is going pretty good, then the Ultimate Magus finally whips out the OoF. Game over. Which is okay; they are supposed to win after all. However, they get to level up to 14 and his Sorcerer half gets to pick his 1 4th level spell (which he can cast like 4 or 5 times a day). Guess which spell he chooses?

So now he will be able to throw 5-7 of these bad boys a day. And I start looking at the endboss (a CR 17 spell weaver lich). Suddenly, this intimidating capstone to a rich module looks positively PC-bait. What might have been a 9-12 round slugfest, may now be a 1-3 round slaughter.

Let's face it, undead hit points suck. And a 10d6 ranged spell, that doesn't allow for a save or spell resistance will cut through those 112 hps quick. Even if he doesn't kill the thing in the first round or two; it will be too busy casting limited wishes for self-heals to be able to do anything remotely offensive. And unfortunately, there are really no defenses against unsavable force effects.

I'm thinking my best bet is to throw a couple of Swords of Kyuss in there to help with their Invocation of the Worm ability. That will distract at least a couple of the 6 PC's and help keep the lich's hp relevant for 3-4 rounds. Maybe I can get off a maze or two, and a couple of enervations. I'm also seriously thinking of respec-ing some of the lich's spells to use a few Spell Compendium/BOVD spells myself.

Wizard may not like Oof as much when I hurl a couple of them his way.

What really hurts me in this group is that they have two divine healers (one of which is actually a Healer [the class]). It's very hard to kill or incapacitate a character in this group!

I just got my latest set of Dr. Who DVDs (The Horns of Nimon, Underworld and The Time Monster), and I got to thinking. This place is loaded with Dr. Who fans; what might be there favorite/stand out episodes from the original series. We all know that Erik Mona's fave episode is The Two Doctors, right? Yes, that was sarcasm. I'll start off with the ones that stand out in my mind (almost all of which are Tom Baker episodes).

The Terror of the Zygons. This one is not yet available on DVD and I haven't seen it in years.

The Hand of Fear. The episode that made me fall in love with Sarah Jane forever (Eldraad MUST live).

The Masque of Mandragora. Love this one.

The Image of the Fendahl. This one always makes me thing of The Masque of Mandragora (I don't know why).

The Seeds of Death (or is it Doom). The one with Harrison Chase and Scorby. And a really mean mulching machine.

The Pyramids of Mars. Sutekh and a really buggy-eyed old dude.

The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Classic.

The Horns of Nimon. Been years on this one as well....

State of Decay. Vampires!

The Curse of Fenric. Sylvester McCoy at his best.

The Caves of Androzani. Peter Davison makes me believe.

Earthshock. They killed Adric!

Battleground. Lethbridge-Stewart comes back.

More are to follow I am sure....

I just lost two players in my recently converted to Pathfinder campaign. My remaining 3 players voted to abandon our ROTR conversion, to start from scratch with a new campaign. We need 1-2 new players to round out our group. I'm allowing all PF stuff and most of the 3.5 supplements into the campaign.

I've decided to run Curse of the Crimson Throne for them. We usually play one Friday a month. I have 4 cats (of which 2 aren't shy about toppling miniatures); so allergies have to be considered.

It's gonna be fun!

Interested locals please apply!

Okay, I need help.

I've got a player who disagrees with me on how spreads work. The disagreement is simple.

He believes that the word "spread" means that the spell starts at the area described in the AOE part of the spell description and then continues to "spread" out each round until it floods whatever area it is cast in (outdoors it could conceivably be miles of stuff).

I believe that the term "spread" (a poor term for what it does granted), is just a type of spell shape that works like a burst but can go around corners. It never moves beyond the stated AOE unless specifically described in the body of the spell (like cloudkill for instance).

Now he does respect my ruling as a DM, but he considers this to be my interpretation of the rules. To me, it is not an "interpretation" at all, but how the designers of Pathfinder (and 3.5 before that) intended for this to work.

The spell in question that started this whole disagreement is FOG CLOUD.

I welcome any other posters to comment on this. but I'd really love and appreciate it if I could get an "official" response from one of the Big Guns (Mona, Jacobs, Buhlman, Sutter, Schneider, or Reynolds). Those guys are always so good about answering stuff like this.

I am going to refer all of the players in my group to this thread so they can follow along with it.

Thanks in advance to all who weigh in on this subject!

Well, I had a serious anticlimax in my Pathfinderized ROTR game last night. The party is in the middle of Fortress of the Stone Giants and ran into Enga Ratcatcher while trying to get to the prisoners (including Ameiko) to break them out. First action taken in the battle was a fireball cast at Enga by the party wizard. Enga rolls a one on her save, so I make the save for her Necklace of Fireballs IV and roll a two. So Enga is ground zero for a 10d6 fireball, a 8d6 fireball, 2 6d6 fireballs, 2 4d6 fireballs, and 4 2d6 fireballs. She was toast.

The only bright side was that I caught the party wizard that started it all in the extra fireballs centered on Enga, which took him to negative 12 (fortunately, he has a 14 Con!).

One of the fun things when you throw a Necklace of Fireballs into the mix!

I am finally doing it! After much hemming and hawing, I am finally switching my non-VTT group over to Pathfinder! The group voted 4 out of 5 to do the switch, and that is good enough for me. 3.5 has been grand; but it is a dead system. I hope to also switch over one of my two VTT groups as soon as their is an official Fantasy Grounds 2 conversion. I can't switch over my Savage Tide VTT group because there are too many Savage Species-type characters in it (A Ghaele, Drow and Svirfneblin) to mess with it.

But I have decided that all future campaigns will be Pathfinder. There is just something about playing in a living, growing system, but I can't reconcile myself with 4th Edition. I've got one holdout, who actually wishes we were playing 1st Edition, but I'm sure that he will come around eventually. We are doing ROTR, and just started Fortress of the Stone Giants. Should be fun!

Someone on this board once said that there was an even split between the Conservative and Liberal voices on this board. I say BS.

Whatever happened to the Liberal voices here? Where is the Obamalove? Isn't gaming Satanic? That alone should make D&D a primarily Democratic pursuit. Anyone who adores the monster that is Sarah Palin should fork the sign of the Evil Eye every time Gary Gygax's name is mentioned.

So if you are a Liberal, here is the place to raise your flag. I expect Conservative invasion of the thread within the hour; but I hope that more than one or two fellow Liberals to post in here. Are there any Progressives left at Paizo.com?

Anyone else have problems with this little 1st level Psionic Power?

It basically entangles one target for five rounds, allows no save and requires a ranged touch attack to get off. Worse, if the target is against a wall or other solid object, he is immobilized instead of merely entangled for those 5 rounds. This means coup de gras city for 5 rounds. And at a cost of 1 Power Point (plus 2 for every size category above medium), the psion can spam it every 4 rounds or so to keep the beastie locked down.

This ability is causing me all kinds of headaches, so I am instituting a save allowed every round after the 1st (with an increasing +1 to the save starting on the 3rd round). Still it is at least as powerful as hold monster at the cost of a 1st level slot.

Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?

My ROTR group has cleared about 2/3 of the Kreeg infestation from Fort Rannick. So I sent out an email to get them thinking about what they were going to want to do with the Fort after they were successful. (I wanted them thinking ahead for this new twist in the game, since it was most likely going to take place this next game.) Kaven has run off, and Vale was killed in the last attack. So Shalelu and her father are the only two rangers left; the party is aware that the decision of what to do with it is obviously in their hands.

So I got more than I bargained for in a couple of email responses from one of my players (a college Business Law professor by trade!). I am unsure how to proceed, so I thought I'd include them here. I was planning on using the old "Stronghold Builders Guide" 3.0 book for repair and construction costs; but are there any resources on city or town building? I think that my player is underestimating the costs involved (he plans to spend his 9,000 gp), and the time involved (I think this will take years, not days) to accomplish it. Looks like I may actually have to do some serious work on this stuff (rubs hands in excitement). Any advice, help, or resources I don't know about is appreciated!

Below are his emails:

I want to build a trading post on the river, then lay out a village in a square or rectangular pattern just outside the wall. The village will have a low earthen wall eventually developing into a wooden palisade and then a stone wall. This defended and planned community will attract settlers due to the safety offered by the fort and the commercial opportunities. A saw mill and a stone mason as well as a blacksmith will have to be early priorties. (I may well finance that myself as well as the initial trading facilities. I have about 9,000 to invest in these ventures.) There are plentiful supplies of stone and lumber nearby.
The areas near the fortress will be surveyed and laid out for more roads and farmland as well as grazing areas.
I intend to seek formal recognition of our possession of the fort from Magnamar as well as a formal town charter with its attendant privileges.

There should also be a church. I might be interested in donating land for a monastery although I would very much want a fighting order. My conditions for the donation of the land, wood and stone would be the establishment of a school and the development of manufacturing, probably weaving after sufficient sheep have been established in grazing areas.
For defense I want a militia drawn from my new inhabitants but it will be unfortunately necessary to develop a full fledged garrison of professionals. At the beginning only a small contingent will be necessary to defend the inner keep but with community development larger numbers will be necessary and the defenses of the outer wall will have to be substantially increased.

I was surfing threads today and noticed an old posting by GGG. I happened to look at his page, and noticed that he hasn't posted on Paize messageboards since June of 2008. So whatever happened to this guy? I liked his posting style and kind of miss him.

While I'm on the subject, where the heck has Steve Greer been hiding? Plus you hardly ever hear from Dryder anymore either. Logue and Pett have been somewhat quiet too.

Not sure how many folks on here collect the older Doctor Who's on DVD in America. But I was so excited to get Image of the Fendahl on DVD finally! They release approximately 3 Doctor Who episodes on Region 1 DVD about every 3 months or so. They aren't cheap, but I make it a point to buy them as I can.

This month, they released Image of the Fendahl, The Deadly Assassin and Delta and the Bannermen. You can get The Trial of a Timelord, The Key to Time, the E-Space trilogy and others.

Good stuff. I love the new Doctor Who as well (and Torchwood); but I want to see Tom Baker and the others get some love on Paizo as well!

Anyone have any favorite episodes?

Some of my favorites are State of Decay, Image of the Fendahl, The Hand of Fear, The Curse of Fenric, and The Caves of Androzani.

Some of my other favorites aren't available on Region 1 DVD yet like The Seeds of Death and The Masque of Mandragora.

More to come I am sure.

Okay, now I'm confused.

According to my Order History, The Bastards of Erebus is "Shipping" and Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook "Shipped Friday."

Yet I just went out to check my mail and The Bastards of Erebus has arrived (and no complaints about the prompt delivery of that); no sign of The Core Rulebook.

So should I be worried? Is the Core Rulebook coming by Post Office or UPS? If it's UPS, they usually don't deliver until 7-8 pm, so maybe it will still arrive by today. Also, do large books tend to ship slower than an AP module? Just curious; I just don't want to worry that I missed the book in the mail or something.

Well, my party is continuing to discover the the Champion's Belt is a nasty module. They are almost finished and I thought last night would do the trick to put that module to bed. All they had left was the Alkilith fight, the Froghemoth fight and the Finale; I didn't count on the Alkilith fight lasting over 5 hours of game time. Then they knocked the Froghemoth out in 1 hour in 5 rounds. Go figure.

What hurt them with the Alkilith was the DR. That and the stinking cloud. I remember that spell in 1st/2nd Edition as being an annoyance but nothing gamebreaking. Wow, in 3.x, that spell can lead to an easy TPK. Because you have to keep saving when you are in it; and once you have failed, even after you leave it, you are out of commission for 2-5 rounds. Of course, no one in the party had a good-aligned weapon (the healer has the dagger from the trophy room in HOHR, but it is in actuality it is a +1 unholy dagger!), so even the badass fighter couldn't touch it. His axe does 1d10+8 points of damage and you can't crit the Alkilith, so the best he could do was 3 points on a max damage hit. 10 rounds in and the Alkilith had only 3 points of damage on it. Finally, the cleric tried casting align weapon on her longsword and realized she could actually overcome the DR; but by then, healing was almost exhausted, and resources were scraping the bottom of the barrel. When the alkilith finally hit the threshold and teleported out to change to cloudkill form, the party booked out of there. So now they know the secret of how to kill it and the cleric will be stocking up on bless weapon and align weapon spells. Between herself, the tank and the ranger; they should be able to take the still-injured but partly healed demon out in a couple rounds (plus the wizzy will probably take a few dispel magics to get rid of any stinking clouds the demon throws up too!)

It's a hard lesson for groups to learn that you can't always defeat every foe in a single battle. Sometimes, you have to flee to return and fight another day (especially in Paizo modules).

Now, I have to worry about the party finding that secret door and insisting on exploring Raknian's mansion. No maps are provided, so I'll have to whip one up (because I guarantee that they won't be dissuaded from exploring it). I am probably going to fill it with members of the Waterdeep City Watch, who are unaware of Raknian's ulterior motives on their fair city. Maybe then the party will get the message that they are off course.

Only one more night of exploration (and they have pretty much already explored everything but the passages that lead off the map), and then finally, we get to the Finale!

I am well away from this module, but was reading ahead. Room A8 in Lashonna's Dungeon refers to different colored green squares and the pattern of worm are supposed to be on the floor squares which indicate which traps are where in the room.

However the map in the actual adventure does not differentiate these different squares. Are there any maps out there that do this?????

Well, my party started off The Champions Belt with a bang this past Saturday!

They allied with Arcane Auriga and together took out Badland's Revenge and Sapphire Squad in less than 3 rounds. One of the reasons they are tearing things up so easy is they rarely fail saves anymore, due to smart buffing with Recitation coupled with Mass Conviction. Together these give the entire party either +5 or +6 to saves depending on who they worship as a patron deity. The other advantage this party seems to have is the beguiler. Is there any base class that is more broken than this one? (Don't answer that; I'm sure there is!)/ Of course, once the undead become the primary antagonists later in the path, the beguiler will find himself less useful, so that is some comfort.

I don't dislike Recitation so much as it has a 1/round a level limit, but Mass Conviction is crazy at 10/min a level (and it slides based on level just like Shield of Faith).

To combat this for Round Two, I made some changes to Pitch Blade. I left the two statted barbarians as is; I think their sundering ability is going to tick off the fighter and the ranger. Remember, the only two things worse than death to a PC is level loss and item destruction. They do love their toys! But I still thought that my party of 6 PCs would take the 2 dwarves out in a couple of rounds as it was written. So I added a third dwarf and made him a warblade (flanking specialist). I don't want to wipe the party, but I do want the battle to last a good 6-8 rounds (and maybe long enough for the recitation to wear off!)

Just wondered if anyone else has run into this particular spell combo (or others) that make supposedly tough battles into pushovers.

Well my friend, Cosmo. I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that I finally got PF 20, it arrived today with PF 22. The bad news? No sign of PF 21. I'm hoping that it got held up at some poedunk Post Office between here and there. I assume that you want to wait a little longer before we decide how to proceed; but I thought that I'd let you know in case you guys have a way to track these things down.

Up to this point. my PF have been coming in like clockwork. So I'm not sure what has changed for the Legacy of Fire run...

Thought I'd post my party's final battle with Zyrxog last Saturday night.

We play using Fantasy Grounds VTT once a month (3.5 rules). After the short intro battle with Zyrxog at the climax of Sodden Hold, the party knew 2 things: what they were up against and that they didn't like being stunned with a brainsucker in the room.

Party makeup is as follows:
9th level Dwarven FIghter
9th level Elven Cleric
9th level Gnomish Beguiler
9th level Elven Ranger
9th level Human Healer (npc)
6th level Halfling Wizard/1st level Sorcerer/2nd level Ultimate Magus

The wizzy and cleric wisely spent some time in a Waterdeep library (my game is set in FR) researching illithids. (I spent a lot of time perusing these threads also, most notably to determine if the Spell Immunity spell would protect against mind blast or not. So when they finally went into Zyrxog's lair, they were prepared. The cleric, played by my wife, had racked 2 spell immunities, mass conviction and recitation. The healer brought in her unicorn companion right before the final battle (and this provides a +2 resistance bonus to saves due to MCAE effect in a 10' radius). So basically the fighter and the ranger became immune to the mind blast and everyone else had either a +5 or +7 bonus on saves against it. Needless to say, no one fell victim to either of the two mind blasts the levitating Zyrxog threw out there. They also fared pretty well against the slow gaze of the octopins. Note that I moved the Advanced Octopin from the Laboratory tank in M9 to the pool under Zyrgog's floating form.

The battle lasted about 6-7 rounds. The fighter and the cleric both toed to toed it with the Octopins and I dropped the fighter negative twice and almost killed him with an empowered scorching ray, though the healer would have negated that with revivify. My one boneheaded move was forgetting that the magic column also gave the Octopins fire resist 20 , so I let a couple of fireballs drop their hp a bit; but I think that all it did was maybe shorten the fight by a round or two. Ultimately, the ranger was the downfall of Zyrxog as well as a little help from the wizzy. (I imagine that using the correct mind blast DC of 20 versus 23 this time around also helped!) The ranger had just taken Improved Critical (longbow) as his 9th level feat and it helped as he got off 3 crits on the floating flayer in the course of 2 rounds (2 nat 20's and one nat 19). Breaths were held as he rolled first the confirmation roll and then the 50% miss chance (due to Zyrxog's displacement spell) and in all three cases the threats were confirmed. The wizzy had an acid arrow spell going on the flayer (note that AA doesn't allow SR!) and ultimately this was what took his hp below zero. I was hoping the characters would just allow the still levitating Zyrxog to cook his way past -10, but the archer decided to put another 3 arrows into it before the acid could finish him off.

What a fight and now on to being gladiators!

The second part of my post is a question. I wonder how many of you that have played through this adventure actually left the cursed items in M11 as is? It almost seems cruel after all the tough fights throughout Zyrxog's lair to give out cursed items as loot. Now, the flayer has some nice gear on him to give out, but these cursed items are darn near worthless, and can really screw up the characters. Opinions? Options?

I want to send out the identify session out in an email so as not to waste VTT game time at the next game, but I'm not sure how to run the cursed fare via email either. I know that per the DMG, there is a 1% chance per caster level of the identify to find out the cursed nature of the item, otherwise it appears to be a non-cursed version. I'm tempted to just make these regular magic items; what do you all think???

Thanks for reading and for your answers in advance!

I've been following Erik Mona's blog for quite awhile now at Lemuria Press, and he's been waxing nostalgic about metal music, Metallica and Megadeth for the last few days. And I think it's great! I've been a metalhead since I discovered Kiss at 11 and to find out the Publisher of my favorite gaming stuff loves the same stuff I do is like mana from heaven!

For the record, I hate the new Metallica. My face CD by them is: And Justice For All.

My fave Megadeth would have to be: Peace Sells..But Who's Buying.

Fave new metal: Killswitch, Trivium and DevilDriver.

PS Mona likes Dr. Who too! Awesome.

It's Friday the 13th of July, and I still haven't received my copy of Dungeon #149. Strangely, I just received my copy of Dragon #358, which shipped out quite a bit later than the Dungeon issue. I did recently move from Connecticut to Arkansas, but I put in for the change of address in early June. Just a little concerned that it may have gotten lost in the mail or worse.

It seems that I can't edit or delete the above post, so this is an update. This campaign will be coming to a close as I will be moving to Arkansas in the next three months. I will be placing a new request for players in the next few weeks in the Bentonville, Arkansas area. It will most likely be Forgotten Realms and it will be starting from scratch. Anyone interested can reply to this thread, but I will be putting up a new one soon!

On a related note: Any DM's in the Fairfield County area of CT; there is a great group of players (best I've ever had the pleasure to DM) that will be in desperate need of a DM soon. The group was soooo close to Epic level; I feel terrible that I have to leave the campaign unended. Any qualifying DM's are more than welcome to respond as well and I will put you in touch with the right people.
