Alaska (or somewhere the temperature will freeze the dead zombies solid so they're even easier to flee from).

Of COURSE I'll take Shimmy with me.

I'm poorly prepared for the event, though.

That's cool, I have a cat named Shimmy too. Is yours short for Shimmy Coco Puff?

And it has Felicia Day too.

The latest episode is called "The Girl With The Dungeons and Dragon Tattoo."

That rocks,

Going to have a hard time finding ANY adventure/module with only a "couple fights." While Pathfinder has several mechanics built in for non-combat encounters and roleplay; the meat and potatoes of it (and most other RPG's) is combat. 70% of a character sheet is about combat statistics.

If you want a more customized adventure, I'd advise either creating one yourself, or modify an existing module by removing the majority of the hack and slash. Of course, then you will have to replace the missing combat elements with something else!

Just my two cents for what it is worth.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

Amazing. Going to be amazing.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

Buffy, then Angel, then Firefly, then Dollhouse.

Xander was always my favorite character because he was me in High School, followed by Willow cause Allyson Hannigan is so freaking hot.

I agree that Paul was the most annoying character on Dollhouse and Topher was my favorite. Also, I love the way that show ended.

I'm in Rogers and play Pathfinder online and GM a tabletop one as well. Love the game and would love to see a good game store in the area. Ft. Smith is a litle far for me to drive to, but it might break the ice in this area (which we need badly).

Good luck!

And Whedon is god by the way!

So glad he is doing this movie. Whedon+Robert Downey=gold

It's me again.

Just started a once-a-month Pathfinder ROTR campaign and already had two players flake out. The two remaining players have never played any kind of tabletop RPG before; so the learning curve is extreme. But it's also a lot of fun, seeing them learn the rules to the game from the ground up! One is running a cleric; the other a wizard (but he would much rather run a ranger or rogue, so casters are welcome!)

We play one Friday evening a month, from 6ish to Midnight. I live in the corner of Rogers bracketed by Lowell and Cave Springs.

Looking for anyone close by to join in the fun. We just had one game so far, and we are still in the opening battle (with the final wave to go)....

You say that, but...

Actually, you can also cheat solitaire on the computer. If you hold the Shift-Ctrl-Alt down while dealing a card; it deals one instead of three. So while not guaranteeing a win, it significantly increases your odds of winning.

For the record, I fudge rolls occasionally. I don't consider it cheating. And I let my players know up front that I do it; I don't tell them during games when I actually am. We play to have fun, not to let the dice ruin an evening's enjoyment.

If you don't like fudging, that's cool. Just don't accuse me of being an evil person. While we are adults; we are playing a game. It's not brain surgery. Have a nice day.

Pertwee has definitely moved up my list. He grows on you.

Also, even though CB is still my least favorite Doctor; I think he gets too much blame for his Doctor. Blame the writers as much or more than the actor....

Got all the Davison and Colin Baker episodes on DVD now, and am almost there on Pertwee, TB and McCoy. Got all the CE, DT and the movie also. Love Dr Who on DVD and the extras are pretty cool too!

Back in my day, Doctors got five to seven seasons.
Tom Baker was the longest at five, Peter Davison, taking Troughton's advice left at the end of his second season. Colin Baker was fired after his first, and I don't think Seventh lasted that much longer. The Eighth had exactly ONE appearance. Eccleston left after his first season and Tennant lasted four.

Tom Baker had seven. Davison had three. Colin did two (but I can see why you might mentally block out his second season). McCoy had three, though they were very short (14 half-hour episodes each). And Tennant had three plus a set of specials. You were right about McGann and Eccleston, though!

For the sake of completeness, Hartnell had a little more than three, Troughton a little less than three, and Pertwee had five. (So if deinol's "day" was 1970 to 1981, Doctors really did get 5-7 seasons in his day.)

I am really starting to get into Pertwee's Doctor. Been watching a lot of his stuff lately: The Peladon Eps, Terror of the Autons, The Sea Devils, etc. Gotta say the music is pretty horrible, but I like Pertwee's homages to James Bond and his flair for the dramatic.

Loved it. It was much better than the Conan remake. And Tennant stole the movie, chewing up scenery like it was made up of brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts....

Seriously.. if that's your opinion of the argument people are attempting to make that a 14-20+ themed book would be useful and well received by the player base..

Then you sir cause my faith in humanity to slip slightly.

Direct quote from dmchucky: "We will not go quietly into the night. We will continue screaming for post-20th level rules, until we get them. So you'd better get some teflon earbuds my friend...."

Wanna try again? We're not talking about a 14-20 book (that exists, its called the Core Rulebook, it covers levels 1-20), we're talking about paizo's hypothetical take on the ELH. And you can hardly accuse me desparaging anyone who you've got dmchucky and others openly bragging about how they'll "scream" (AGAIN: DIRECT QUOTE) until they get what they want.

I can try to help you find those earbuds at a reasonable discount if you want.

Just wanted you to know that we could stop "screaming" if you would stop trying to be such a roadblock. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but as long as you choose to be so openly against what so many obviously want; you will get major pushback.

Ever go to a casino? Are you familiar with craps? You are like the guy who bets on the "Don't Pass" and "Don't Come" fields. You might make a lot of money betting against the rollers, but don't be surprised if you don't piss a lot of people off in the meantime.

Paizo puts out enough books for everyone to get what they want. What is selfish is to deny any one group their niche product. You say you are doing it for the good of the company. A company that only plays it safe will never prosper; it will merely survive. Paizo took a huge gamble sticking to the 3.5 ruleset; would you have begrudged them for that decision as well?

So keep pushing for the safe path; I just want you to know that I'll be here pushing right back. Earlier you said (I think it was you); may the best man win? This isn't a competition. If Paizo throws the dice and comes up seven; we ALL win. If they crap out; then it's back to the drawing board and no harm, no foul. The entire company's future does NOT hinge on the post-20th level niche. But it could open up a new revenue stream if it is done just right.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

Gailbraithe wrote:

DMchucky and other that are arguing that it costs those of us who do not want more high level support nothing for paizo to publish a high level book (and then continue supporting it) are simply wrong. The Paizo staff does not have infinite time and resources, and thus we are dealing with a zero-sum game.

Any amount of time spent by the Paizo staff working on a "mythic" level book is time they are not spending working on support for the game most people play, therefore it makes perfect sense for those who have no interest in high-level play to agitate against high level rules.

I want paizo to put out products that I have an interest in buying, and I don't want paizo to put out products that won't help me make my campaigns better. Sorry if that ruffles feathers, but don't try and sell people on this nonsense idea that we can all get what we want.

But here's the really cool part. Paizo designs stuff so well, that even if it isn't something I want or care about; it's still worth buying, just to read in the restroom if nothing else. AP's read like a good novel and I imagine most folks here like reading rulebooks in general or they wouldn't be gamers.

Maybe the product would be so intriguing that it might even make a mythic believer out of you. Wow, what a concept. Maybe the reason most folks don't play high-level D&D/Pathfinder is because the rules have sucked sneakers to this point.

Don't be a Debbie Downer.

And let's face it. It isn't a matter of if; it's a matter of when. JJ is obviously a fan of high level play for himself if not his company. The sooner they get the book out, the sooner this vocal "minority" shuts its collective mouth. By the way, I'm not convinced we are a minority; I just don't feel like arguing that point with you.

And finally, you actually are being selfish in your desire for them to not make this product. Just as I am being selfish in my need for them TO make it.

We will not go quietly into the night. We will continue screaming for post-20th level rules, until we get them. So you'd better get some teflon earbuds my friend....

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

What makes high level play unplayable? IMO? Bad players.

You have to have a social contract between your players and the GM. In may be an unspoken contract, but it needs to be there.

After awhile, "good" players realize that insta-win fights aren't fun, for either the players or the GM. So they intentionally try to avoid getting in the rut of using the same overpowered combos in every fight. Just because you have a killer combo in your arsenal as a PC, doesn't mean you should use it every fight ad nauseum.

My players know that it isn't just my responsibility to make the game fun. It is up to them as well. Used sparingly, killer combos can be awesome. But used in every fight, they know that I will have to bring the pain hammer down and use GM metaknowledge to "cheat" the system against them (which usually means TPK and endgame to the campaign).

Good players WANT the game to last. They want to keep getting more powerful, but they also want to be challenged. They KNOW that the game is rigged from the outset, and in their favor. But they want to work WITH their GM to make it a fun and challenging experience for EVERYONE.

Having said all that; I find the concept of E6 to sound downright annoying. But if it works for you; go for it. Just let me know that is the plan from the get-go, so I can find another campaign.....

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

I've said this many times.

I am 100% wanting post-20th level rules. Totally. I will buy any and all "mythic" products.

I have NO interest in Asian-themed adventures. However, I WILL continue my AP subscription, including Jade Regent. I am NOT interested in mixing guns with my fantasy gaming; but I will still definitely buy Ultimate Combat. I support Paizo, and have faith in their ability to entertain me with these products, even if I am not usually a fan of said content.

See how this works?

Everyone gets what they want; and we all go home happy.

cibet44 wrote:

Well the way to sniff out a potential "cheating DM" (your words) is pretty simple. At the start of each session simply say to the DM: "Can you please roll all your dice in the open or have the players roll for you?"

Any DM that is not willing to do this is probably planning to "cheat" at some point, so you can just leave the table then and spare yourself the pain of being part of his game.

As a GM, I roll my dice away from players eyes, but mostly because I have to sit at a second table since we have 7 players and the main table is full. I have no compunctions about showing anyone what I rolled if they want to see.

But, also as a GM, there are dice to be rolled that the players don't necessarily need to see. If I'm rolling a Stealth check on someone/something trying to sneak up on them, I shouldn't need to announce "Ok guys, someone is sneaking up on you and I'm going to roll a Stealth check for them. Here, see what I rolled? Now make Perceptions checks." I roll the Stealth check behind the screen, ask the players to make their Perception check, and if they succeed, I tell them what they herd/saw. If they fail, they don't notice what happened.

I think transparency for most of the gaming can be good, but some things are really none of the player's business to be seeing. If I go see a magic show, I don't want to Magician/Illusionist explaining how he did every little trick; I want to see some magic.

If a player came to my table making demands about my rolling habits, I would ask them to leave. I see it as being very rude. If you don't trust me to run a fair game, don't come to my table in the first place.

Exactly. I love my screen. If I roll a 20, I lift the screen up to show the roll to the players. Otherwise, they need to trust me or leave the table.

Andoran (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules, Tales Subscriber)

Put me in the camp of not ending a campaign. Or at least not ending at level 20. To me, high level characters are so much more fun to run than low level ones. More power, more options, cool things to choose from.

I love getting to the crazy high levels. Nothing wrong with a strong ending for the storyline; that's when you take a 6 month hiatus as DM, while you start planning a mythic extraplanar campaign for the players to take their 24th level characters into.

In my opinion, you should never plan a total ending. Why start over when characters are just getting interesting????

I agree with some of this, and disagree with some of it, honestly.

I agree with the stinky and the mooching - I get some McDonalds within walking distance before we start. As one of the few full-time workers in the group, I try not to.

However, I get calls from my g/f and she also texts me occasionally while we play, and it doesn't really disturb the group. I put my phone on silent when we start, and so I notice it but most others don't. I don't put the game on hold while I talk - I walk off into another room and let everyone continue. If it's combat, I pay enough attention so that when my turn comes I can swoop in and do my turn double-quick.

GMs can lie about dice rolls. Honestly, I fudge when I DM from time to time, both to make things interesting (if I'm rolling horribly for a fight I expected to be difficult, for example), and when a player would die when he really shouldn't (did everything right, and I just happen to roll a critical with that Scythe that was EXACTLY his HP - nah, just down to -7). I roll behind a screen for this very purpose.

Players should never lie about die rolls, though.

Honestly, yeah, if everybody is reasonable (sometimes that's a lot to ask of people), there should be no problem.

My tabletop group was RUINED by a player who received texts from his wife every 10 minutes or so. Then the Einstein had to share the jokes that she was sending him with the rest of the group. I tried to give him not so subtle hints that he was distracting the group, but he refused to take the hint. Finally, I told him that I would have to have him ask his wife to stop texting him unless it was an emergency.

He stopped answering my group emails or responding to calls when I would call him. He had also had a real problem with attendance (he only made about 30% of the games and when he was there, the phone was constantly ringing). Finally, I sent him an email a couple of months later that I was booting him from the group and he responded with a sarcastic email that I was too serious about the game and that he had quit the game weeks earlier (even though he didn't have the balls to TELL me that he had quit the group; another gripe).

Needless to say, we were down to two players at that point, so the group is on permanent hiatus until I can find some other players (which isn't easy in Arkansas). Thank heavens I have two VTT groups and one other VTT game that I play in.

So yeah, I have a REAL problem with texting at the table.

I will miss her beauty, her voice, her grace and her character. This is the hardest celebrity death I have had to face so far. I know Tom Baker is going to be another hard one as well. (And Nicholas Courtney was surprisingly rough, too). As a writer, a gamer, a major book reader and a movie fanatic; these fictional characters and their roles can become almost more important to you than real people (notice I said almost). I felt like Liz was a real part of my childhood.

Attitude is everything in this day and age where folks have become much more careful about where they spend their hard-earned money. You should think about apologizing rather than defending an unprofessional remark. It might save any more hemorrhaging of potential customers.

Interesting analysis of the situation by Naomi Klein. Of course, now I'll be branded a left-wing ideologue...

Love Naomi Klein. (also Rachel Maddow!).

I would hate to see a world without corporations. Look around and look at the cool gadgets, medicines, and technology that we have because of the "evil corporations". Even Paizo is a corporation and look what they have done for the gaming community. Some of you people really need to grow out of whatever indoctrination that you've been put through and start living in the real world.
It seems that, once again, we are in opposition to each other. It is alright. Just one more thing to argue over as we have our climactic duel on the bridge of the SSD Executor to determine who gets to be Gary.
Don't make me whip out the Joss Whedon lightsabers on you. ;)

Garydee likes Joss Whedon? My world has just started spinning....

Something we both like and agree on. It is an age of miracles indeed.

It's simple really.

When we torture we stoop to the level of the terrorists that threaten us. We become animals. We become less than what we aspire to be. We become the bad guys.

It doesn't work. And when you argue to justify why it does; you lessen yourself in the eyes of your fellow man. We call ourselves enlightened. We are supposed to be the good guys in America. So let's not act like it is EVER okay to use barbarism as a tool of intelligence.

Torture is not an answer. It is a waste of time, and a stain on morality to no end.

We are Americans; let's act like Americans, and not defend torture for any reason. Is that too much to ask?

America's alignment? Oooooooooh the sheer possibilities of patriotic flame wars, AND an alignment debacle too? There is a god. At least some god would find this hilarious. =)

Okay, I just have to. A society that currently has the world's biggest population of lawyers is NOT a chaotic society. America is lawful with the absolute best of them. The fabled volume of federal laws is... intimidating. Yes, definitely lawful.

As for moral alignment: A society that employs waterboarding, sorry, "enhanced interrogation techniques", and invades countries at costs of tens of thousands of lives, where they can't even give a good explanation why, that push for abolishment of freedom of speech across the world by sneaking through international treaties, that chooses to destabilize countries so these countries will no longer become strong democratic societies that could become a threat, and so on, and so on, and so forth... that is not a good society. Not even a neutral one, except on the very best days. Sorry.

But this ruling proves that some people actually understand what freedom of speech is.

+1

I totally agree.

Don't think I have mentioned this lately.

Joss Whedon is God.

Bring back Firefly.

Make Ripper.

Make Spike.

Make Faith, the Vampire Slayer.

And for God's sake: let's get Nicholas Brendon a job; the dude rocks!
