So each of the 6 rounds would run as follows:

1. PCs solve the obstacle with the listed check and DC in the AP.

2. PCs select a chase action. The DCs are for a CR3 encounter. I can't see anywhere that says when to use the "average" or "hard" DC so I guess which you pick depends on how challenging you want to make it for your PCs. I will pick hard for my players as they have been doing really well so far. So in my game the PC action checks will be DC19 for this encounter.
Your table, your rules though. Personally, I wouldn't punish this at all, but rather would reward it for Batman Prep'ing the encounter properly. And like others have said as well, Dragons are scary enough as it is despite their breath weapon. And even if you DO use the proper order precedence, PfE is only going to last til mid-way through the second breath attack even if they save on both breaths.

If you really want to get scary with the breath weapon, use this strat: When your PC's enter the dragon's room, they see the dragon and begin to fan out so they can't all get hit with the breath attack at once. This dragon they see is actually an Illusion, and they won't know that until they interact with it. The real dragon is actually Invisible but he's stealthing up in the ceiling with Fly spell so you don't hear the wingbeats. He's waiting for them to "fan out" per the position of the illusion. Once they've moved themselves into a "fanned out" position per where the Illusion Dragon is positioned but now they're all within the cone effect range of the breath from the real Invisible Dragon's position is. Queue the Surprise Round BBQ with Melt Stone right underneath them, PfE is either gone or half-gone.

Number one: breath weapons don't really do 150 pts of damage on average. It's usually a third to half of that. So a dragon does say 50 to 75 points on a decent breathing. So we lose half to two thirds of the protection. But wait, a smartly built party (and my players always build their party's smartly); makes their saves and only takes 25 to 32 points of damage. So the protection will last 3 to 4 more breath attempts.

Number two: breath weapon cool downs. 1 to 4 rounds. How long do your fights last in your games? Usually 3 to 7 rounds in mine, if I use max hp. That means maybe 3 breath attempts.

Number three: they also use resist energy (of course). So on the off chance I got through the protection; they are still insulated from most of the damage.

Number four: rogues. Evasion. Nuff said.

So I think my way at least gives the breath weapon a shot at doing a little damage. Dragons are supposed to be scary.

The irony now, is my party is considering abandoning the Sunrise Maiden and commandeering the Singularity (after giving it a thorough cleaning)? This part of the adventure is so obviously Serenity-based (think Reaver ships).

I will also mention that the second half of this AP really doesn't seem to be friendly to levelling up the partys' ship. There is definitely no time between mods 5 and 6; but honestly between mod 4 and 5 it is discouraged. I have a home rule that it takes a week of time to upgrade a ship a single tier. I gave the party the option to level their ship up from Tier 7 to 9, but seeing as that would take two weeks, it would give the Cultists THAT much more time to get to the Degenerator. I was going to basically scale up the encounters in mod 5 as a consequence of dallying and getting the ship upgraded. So my group decided to forgo the upgrade, which means their ship is stuck at Tier 7 for the remainder of the AP. Even if they chose to take the Singularity, it will also be stuck at Tier 7. Should make the remaining ship fights more fun for me, but also increases the chance of a TPK.
My group just did the first three events. They easily removed the insanity from the inevitable.
So sadly, I will be cancelling several of my subscriptions in the next couple of months.

Effective immediately, I need to cancel my Pathfinder Cards subscription (which has been inactive for the past couple of years anyway). Also please cancel my Player Companion subscription immediately, since it seems to be going on hiaturs anyway.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Module subscription after The Fall of Plaguestone ships.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription after Druma: Profit and Prophecy.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game subscription after the 2nd Edition Rulebook and 2nd Edition Bestiary ship. I want the books as part of a promise I made myself about owning the starting rulebooks for every iteration of the D&D rules. But beyond that, I have no plans to play 2nd Edition Pathfinder on a regular basis. Sticking to legacy Pathfinder.

Finally, and with the biggest regret of all; please cancel my Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription after Part 6 of Tyrant's Grasp ships.

Please note that I wish to keep my Starfinder AP subscription active and will be adding the Starfinder RPG subscription to my account.

It has been a great privilege to be one of tbe Adventure Path subscribers from the beginning. I love the PF ruleset and will always consider legacy Pathfinder to be my game of choice. It has been an honor to spend my coin on your product.

I do not cast aspersion to the need for the system to morph into a new Edition. It is the way of things. But I have enough PF materials to last the rest of my lifetime and this is a good time to start saving more money for retirement in a few years.

I will remain a loyal customer with Paizo as long as you continue to produce quality (1st Edition) Starfinder products as well.

Thanks for many years of great gaming, Paizo. Huzzah!
Good Morning,

Effective immediately, I need to cancel my Pathfinder Cards subscription (which has been inactive for the past couple of years anyway). Also please cancel my Player Companion subscription immediately, since it seems to be going on hiaturs anyway.
Please cancel my Pathfinder Module subscription after The Fall of Plaguestone ships.

I have always been a frugal gamer, since I started buying gaming books when I was 12 or so (would have been around 1988). Mainly I tend to buy core books and a rare few books of particular interest to me. I began GMing 3.x late in its era but never bought a module for it. I am the opposite of the "gotta catch'em all gamer" who just wants every book their favorite publisher makes. I only buy it if I REALLY feel it's worth my money and my time. (Disclaimer: my stating that I exist is not an effort to discount or devalue the type of customer who buys everything, and I realize that type of customer is the one most publishers is going to really want to appeal to. I am just noting where I stand here.)

Pathfinder to me was so interesting, so well written and produced, and I was so excited about running it (even more than its predecessor 3.x) I subscribed to the roleplaying game line. This is the ONLY system in 30 years I have ever purchased every main rulebook for (I was even lucky to be an independent contract editor for a couple later ones so I got those for free, but the vast majority I bought). I've also bought a few APs, though seldom was a subscriber (I am subscribing right now—these last two APs looked really good). I subscribed to maps for awhile (LOVED them but had to stop because I wasn't using them enough to justify buying them, especially as I began to play online more). I bought modules for the first time in my life. Paizo is the first and only game company I've bought a huge collection of books from—no, still not...

Kind of this. I will buy the Core Book and first Bestiary and then stick to Starfinder. Been gaming D&D ish stuff since Advanced D&D (over 40 years). Pathfinder Legacy Edition is the best system I have ever played. Got enough APs to last until I am cold in the ground (and then some).

You have to draw the line somewhere. But I understand why they have to change and wish them nothing but success. Don’t want to live in a Paizoless world.

And there is always Starfinder.
DeathQuaker wrote:Since folks are saying what they're doing with subscriptions here...

I've been letting them add their bonus in (like the old take 10 or 20 rule). Major eureka moment; unfortunately too late in the process to go back and fix, and only one scenario left. LOL.

In the case of invisibility, yes, the Kraken could use the Seek action, but between losing actions while moving and then another action to seek; usually was out of actions before it could attack. And then, the invisible character got another turn and could move again. One of the characters was a monk with a speed of 55ft. The kraken was going back and forth, and not getting much of a chance to hit anything.

Now I see why other folks are screaming the Assurance is too WEAK. Without adding your modifier; it would be silly to have at higher levels.

And my players basically walked through it for two reasons. Logic and Assurance. Basically, the players knew going in that they needed to be skill focused, and they took me at my word. Two of them had Assurance with 4 skills and the other two had two skills at Assurance. When you pass EVERY skill check without ever rolling a die; it kind of makes a skill based adventure pointless. It might as well been a book I read to them, as there was no random element of failure at all.

The only iffy part was the Kraken, who no one could hit, so they circumvented it (and Necerion) with invisibility. It was fun for them for one game; but it would get old for them pretty quick, and it was not really fun for me as the GM.

Assurance needs to be limited somehow. Maybe you can only use it 3/day or only have it for two skills max?

I also agree, that the party wasn't much of a sandbox. Only 4 NPC's of note, 3 of them in a basically restricted area; to interact with. And my party walked through the portal room, the water room and the mirror room (which I worried was a tpk, but most folks know better than walking in front of a mirror in a room full of them) with nary a sweat.

Especially after the greatness that was "Heroes of Undarin," this was pretty much a let down.

Oh well, one more scenario to go, and then my 3 campaigns that are on hold can start again. This was a fun diversion; but it is looking like I am going to be sticking with original PF and SF for the forseeable future.

But like I said, I am like 4 sub shipments behind on my reading, and I worry that she is going ask me to cut down on the number of books that I order. But this is my addiction; I like my backlog.

I know there is no wrong way to read them; but maybe I need to allow myself to skim more....
Cool answers. I kind of figured I was an outlier. My wife often asks me how I can read the books like I do; to her they seem a lot like college textbooks.

I have lots of subscriptions and the unread stuff is starting to pile up. But I can't seem to stop ordering new books. In fact, I haven't had time to read a novel in years.

So I'm curious: do most folks read them cover to cover like a novel (like I do) or do you spot read them when you need a rule or clarification?

Total PFS newb here. I played a Saturday morning scenario and then the big Stonelord scenario Saturday night. I've gotten credit for the morning Assault on the Worldwound scenario on the web page, but nothing has shown up for the Stonelord scenario as of yet. Is there usually this big of a delay? Should I be concerned?
