You can read them for free at Borders Books. Just bring your laptop along with you and you can type in notes too. Hell, bring a scanner with you.

Wow, that was immature...not even sure where to start.

Bah...forget it...just grow up.

Here's a good place to start: ILLEGAL.

Thanks! That was the word I was looking for!

If you are in a school setting, either high school or college, then I can imagine that getting 4th Ed would help you relate to the gaming opportunities that will be available. When you are out in a career with family concerns, etc., getting into 4th Ed is probably less appealing.

I completely disagree...

College students usually have much less money than those finished with school and working. My whole group consists of 30 somethings with new families, etc, and we're all converting to 4e when it's released.

Pretty indicative of other groups I know of as well.

Thanks for everything, guys!

I have been subscribing to Dragon and Dungeon for many years (off and on). As a matter of fact, it was just this last weekend that I found myself spending hours organizing my back issues and relishing in memories of sessions past.

Regardless of what I think about this move by Wizards (it sucks), I will continue to support the game I love and I will certainly check out the new Pathfinder releases from Paizo. And I hope that guys like Erik Mona will continue to give life to my favorite setting, Greyhawk. He has always been a champion of it, and I hope he finds cause to continue!

Good luck to everyone at Paizo...I hope you're able to turn lemons into lemonade (or Mountain Dew, in this case).

I've tried DMing the "play whatever you want, woohoo!" Savage Species-esque campaign, and it breaks down in a hurry.

From my experience, allowing one character of a non-standard race (like drow or lizardfolk) is quite enough for most parties. :)

You're the Associate Editor of Dragon Magazine and you wrote, "If I ever DM standard D&D again..."??? Wow, I didn't expect that! Not an indictment, but...wow!

Thanks for the replies, all! I think Mike has it right. The "play whatever you want" campaign would easily break down in my group, but every group is different.

Has anyone here heard of Code Monkey Publishing? If you haven't, their making this wonder tool called RPGFoundry (or Forge I forget which) and it comes out this January. This thing is basicly going to replace etools. It will do any thing from character generation to world buliding. It has a load of other features as well I just can't remember them off the top of my head. If you want the rest of the details go to their website at www.codemonkeypublishing.biz. Just a note, they've had to issues with the site so you have to be patient and wait for it to load. I can't wait for the final version to come out. Is anyone else here looking forward to the release?

Work for the company? Heh...

I have 12 sets of DF and I love using them, but I have never been successful at recreating a published map using them. I do managed to layout a map a couple times a year and design a scenario around it. That can be quite labor intensive, but also makes for a very fun game.

But for regular games it is the Battlemat that sees use, not my DF sets. I imagine it will always be that way.

Valegrim - No...that is not the case at all. I am 40 and have been playing since 1978 or so...I don't consider myself a novice with the game. I, and others in my group, have gone in the opposite direction from what you suggest. Our initial PCs were quite intricate as to race and class. We have evolved into what I described above, preferring "simpler" PCs....not for simplicity's sake, but perhaps for other reasons. I've yet to figure out what those are...heh.

In many recent posts I note that groups seemed often to be comprised of PCs like Half Vampire Fighters, or Human Werewolf Clerics, etc.

In my games I don't really allow anything beyond the base races and classes (although perhaps an occasional prestige class here and there is allowed). My players never complain about this and employ extra effort to customize the background of their characters. Our games always seem to be highly creative and unique, and I don't believe the roleplaying suffers either.

I simply enjoy the archetypical roles more than the fantastical. A werewolf or a half-vampire pc is completely lost on me.

Am I alone in this? Just curious.

Oh my, how embarassing!

Yes, my website desperately needs an update, but it's going to be a while yet before I find time to do it. Before I can do things like that, I need to be caught up on all of my current projects, (ie: have all my work done and no projects needing my immediate attention) and it has been a long time since that has happened.

Anyway, hopefully I can get to that soonish™. :)

Well, I guess that means that you're in high demand, and that's a good thing. I add my voice to those who would like to see an update to your sight, though. Perhaps a blog, where you would write even just a sentence or two here and there regarding your current projects and how you are tackling them? That way you could get away from having to post maps, and we (the readers) would be inclined to checkout the projects upon their release (i.e. good advertising).

As I am familiar with your work and admire it I would also be curious to hear about your "process", and even the business side behind it...whatever you're willing to divulge.

Best of luck Christopher.

I love coming to this site and really enjoy Paizo products and the store itself...but I really wish they would speed the site up. It has always seemed slow to me.

1/2 elven druid/bard of Obad Hai from Hommlet. Would love to be able to shapechange, help clean out TOEE, break up the Slave Lords ring, & take on the Queen of Spiders.......and turn it all into an epic poem.....

This is a great idea. Can I join you as a human paladin of St. Cuthbert? No doubt a verse or two of your poem will be comprised of my exploits against the Drow on the way to the Demonweb!

I am looking to start or join a group of mature, experienced rpg'ers in the greater Milwaukee area for 2-4 weeknight sessions a month. I have 1-2 friends that may join the group as well.

I am an experienced DM who enjoys playing as much as running the game. I am looking for a group interested in good role playing, not just rolling dice and killing stuff. Currently I am thinking of beginning a D&D campaign set in Monte Cook's Ptolus, but I am open to other suggestions.

Please email me at disziplin@gmail.com if interested in further information.

Please be safe and keep on gaming! If you're having any trouble getting materials (dice, books), just post here. I, for one, would be happy to help!

Your efforts (and gaming) are appreciated more than I can say here!

I am actually a bit surprised there are this many people calling for reprints of the "golden age" modules. I, like many others here, cut my D&D teeth on classic Greyhawk modules like Tomb of Horrors, Barrier Peaks, the Slavers series, and so on.

Any and all of these that can be updated and rereleased (either in Dungeon, by pdf, or however) would be most welcome and I would certainly purchase them with all haste!

I am a 20+ year verteran of D&D and am looking for a group to join, perferrably on the west side of metro-Milwaukee.

I am interested in d20 Modern, Future, and Call of Cthulhu as well, but would prefer D&D. I would like to find a group that meets regularily and that has a blast while playing. I have served primarily as DM but am eager to play again as well.

Please respond here if interested and tell me more about yourself or your group, when and where you play, etc.

Thanks!

Without beating a dead horse, I also am disappointed that there are so many prestige classes, races, and the like in this. I would have rather seen a selection of some of the "non-crunchy" articles from this great magazine.

I will, however, buy this product as I'm sure it will be of the highest quality.
