A lot of things are pretty much arbitrary. A snake with a woman's head is a naga which is an aberration. If you have a woman who's a snake from the waist down, she's a lamia matriarch, who's a magical beast, unless she has eight arms, in which case she's a maralith who's a demonic outsider. If you've got an otherwise normal human with snakes in place of her hair, she's a medusa, who's a monstrous humanoid.

Shouldn't we faq this? It's compatible with RAW though I don't think it's RAI, I think flurry of blows should have been a full round action rather than full attack action.
The module assumes that after they rescue him, the PCs will ask Biyo Venna where they are and how they got there. Biyo's role in the universe is specifically to find a hero (or a team of heroes) to tell his tale of woe to. They have, after all, just been ejected from a gypsy wagon in a cloud of cards and been dropped into a twisty, curvy, fake-looking world and been jumped by a gang of crows dressed as clowns; questions should abound and Biyo is the first friendly face they encounter. As for how to share that info: Have fun. Biyo is overly dramatic and hero-worshipping; he thinks the PCs are the protagonists and that they will save the day. He'll grovel, refer to them by mighty titles, and occassionally try to cram pointless exposition into the conversation. If the PCs opt to not talk to Biyo, then they'll probably spend some time confused. Any of the conspirators will know about Sonnorae and her tokens (they created them, after all) and would be willing to explain (their version) of what happened with the PCs if made friendly. They all know that Zassrion ultimately controls the Harrowed Realm as well, that the Patchwork Lord likes to drag mortal into the dimension for nefarious experiments, and that the dragon is obsessed with escape. All the Conspirators also know that their tokens tug in the vague direction of Zassrion's mobile fortress, and suspect that more tokens equals more accurate directions Besides Biyo and the Conspirators, few of the storykin are aware enough to understand the world. Mourning Choir knows the history of the Realm and will share it if asked, but she doesn't know much about recent events (such as Zassrion's escape plot). Marzalee's midwife, Molly, shares some of the Queen Mother's conspirator-inspired awareness thanks to their marriage, and could make a good secret ally quietly guiding the party from the shadows (Molly isn't happy with the realm's balance of power, and doesn't share her mate's single-minded artistic bent). And while he doesn't understand much about the PC's or the Realm's larger place in the cosmology, Algon the Ever-Seeking might opt to take on the PCs as "squires" upon meeting them (if he can be made friendly or helpful), and only betray them once they learn the basics of the realm. You could also leave things more mysterious and just drop hints and clues and rely on the players to investigate and make knowledge checks whenever they find clues or encounter a new twist on the world. Knowledge (the planes) could reveal that the PCs have become trapped in an pocket dimension, and some magical experimentation would reveal that there's no conventional exit. Knowledge (history) or (nobility) could give some context to the name Sonnorae the first time they discover it scrawled on a doorway or gate or book cover. Knowledge (engineering) or (nature) may reveal that the world is a sort of construct; like an oversized, elaborate stage or puppet theater that is probably control from some center location. With Knowledge (arcana) they might deduce that invisible threads of magic crisscross the Realm, probably connecting various "anchors" (the tokens), and collecting those anchors in one place might reduce the clutter and make it easier to follow those invisible threads to more anchors. Worst case scenario, you can have the PCs stumble across the peddler Everready Jacob, and add Sonnorae's personal journal to his stock (a bargain at only 50gp!), spelling out the Harrowed Realm's history and even more recent developments (curiously, the handwriting changes sharply at a certain point, becoming scratchy and erratic, starting with an entry describing her murder). I'm British and I love the fact that I can go into my doctors at any time for any medical problem and not have to pay anything. I have friends who have all sorts of medical problems and they have all been treated for free by our National Health Service regardless of income, social standing or medical condition. Just put it like this. No government since the 1940's has said that they want to privatise the NHS. Why? Because it would be electoral suicide. The last thing you should be worried about if you get ill is whether you can afford it or whether your insurance covers it and whilst our system isn't perfect it benefits hugely from the fact that no patient gets charged for their healthcare.

All righty then, folks. I need help pricing out this magic item, the Pouch of Infinite Stars. Let me give some background information, first. There are many times when I have played a monk and desired to use shurikens as ranged weapons. Three things have stopped me dead in my tracks each time: 1. They function as ammunition and are destroyed upon hitting their target. 2. At a half-pound for 5 throwing stars, having any endurance is going to quickly add up, especially at higher levels when a monk might get off as many as ten (10!) in a single round. 3. The cost of enchanting these disposable weapons is quite high, considering how quickly a monk goes through them. Now, these problems must have come to the attention of some sage or wizard somewhere, and perhaps a monk in the game world had them craft an item to solve this. Which brings us to . . . The Pouch of Infinite Stars:
THE POUCH OF INFINITE STARS This leather pouch is designed to worn on a belt. Unremarkable in appearance, it is actually quite heavily enchanted. Upon looking into the pouch, it appears to contain ten shuriken. The wearer may draw and throw them as needed. The magic of this item then becomes readily apparent. At the start of the wearer's next turn, the pouch once again refills with ten new shuriken! The bearer of this item never need fear running out of throwing stars so long as he wears this item. Shuriken removed from the pouch vanish after one round, whether or not they are thrown or if they strike a target. Twice per day, the bearer of the pouch may utter a command word as a swift action. After doing so, any shuriken he draws from the pouch possess a +2 enhancement bonus. This effect lasts until the start of the possessers next round. A few rare pouches only possess a +1 enhancement bonus, but also provide a +1 special weapon property, such as distance, flaming, frost, or seeking. Such pouches of infinite shuriken never possess the returning property. Weight: 2 lbs. The problem that I am having is pricing the dang thing! Any advice? Master Arminas

There are two central issues that have points of contention: 1) Does pounce allow iterative attacks to be used? 2) If you charge on a mount, does that count as charging yourself for activating the pounce ability? For me, both answers are obviously no. Some people insist they are obviously yes. Until we get official errata it will remain unsettled.

I would like to request a sticky thread be created (not this one because I can't edit it after an hour), that would, in the first post, give a list of guides in this sub-forum. In the thread we'll discuss which guides to include and which category they should be in - it would be a community project. This is my no means a complete list...its just a start. Also, if you are going to post a guide for this list, please have a discussion thread for said guide in the Advice forum so we can link to it. The guide can be off-site, but we need a discussion thread for it, please. Also somewhere in your guide please reference which books you use (Core, APG, UM, UC, etc...). Here's my take—how I justify and interpret the summoner. 1) The rules are unclear as to what happens to the source of a summoned creature, but basically, think of a summoned creature as a "reflection" of a creature on another plane... yet it's a real and physical creature, not just an image. It's likely that whatever the original creature on the other plane was never even realizes that it's "reflection" has been summoned to do the bidding of someone somewhere else. As for eidolons... my preference is to believe that they're not "reflections" of single creatures, but composites cobbled together from many different creatures. The summoner essentially custom-builds his eidolon from partial reflections from numerous different source creatures and then binds that specific combination together with metaphysical "glue" harvested form his own life energies (hence the shared magic rune between summoner and eidolon). 2) In the case of an eidolon, it initially comes over naked. Any gear or items given to it stay with it, vanishing into some inaccessible void when the eidolon is gone and coming back the next time it's summoned. Items can't be utilized while in this "void" but neither can they be destroyed. 3) Those items go with the eidolon, and come back the next time it's summoned. Creatures being grappled or otherwise detained by the eidolon do not vanish; they're released when the eidolon goes away. 4) Nope. 5) Summoned creatures are very different. The actual summoned creature itself has no existence before or after the summon monster/summon nature's ally spell is cast, and thus any items it's equipped with have nowhere to come from and nowhere to go. If a summoned monster is a creature that, in its actual stat block, has gear, that gear is with the monster when it arrives, but vanishes as soon as the monster or spell effect is slain/ends. And any additional gear given to a summoned monster drops to the ground as soon as the spell ends or the summoned monster is defeated. 6) I would say those interpretations should apply to the Pathfinder rules in general, because if they don't work that way, you open up a world of confusing possibilities that the rules don't currently offer solutions to. The interpretations above are the simplest and easiest to handle. If you want to interpret them in other ways, it increases the complexity beyond what the rules can currently adjudicate or cover. AKA: If you or your GM doesn't want to use these rules, he/she is going to have to do a little or a lot of work to explain things otherwise. YES! Back in 2002 Bioware launched a game that is in my opinion the greatest computer game of the 21st century, Neverwinter Nights (NWN). NWN’s single player campaign was truthfully nothing special, it was lengthy and enjoyable enough but nothing about it truly broke any gaming paradigms. What made NWN stand out were three things; the Aurora engine that Bioware used to build the game was launched with it, it came with a DM client for online use, and an active and devoted community that still to this day releases custom content. Neverwinter Nights allows groups of people to create from scratch their own custom world with it’s own areas, NPCs, spells, monsters, etc. and then host the completed world on a server for players to long in and play a persistent character. The DM client then allows someone to log into the server and wield control over things ranging from spawning and possessing NPCs to creating items, effects, etc. The tools at a DMs finger tips allows them to run highly complex and immersive events ranging from single shot “save the villager from enraged kobolds” to lengthy year long campaigns. For the last nearly 8 years I’ve been a part of this fantastic community and in that time have worn the shoes of builder, DM, administrator, and player. This brings me to the purpose behind this post, a little over a year ago I discovered Pathfinder and with that one of my favorite fantasy campaign settings of all time, Golarion. Shortly after discovering this setting and beginning to immerse myself in it I began to contemplate building a Neverwinter Nights server within it. This concern was pushed to the wayside though due to a schedule busy with family, work, and already working on another server http://cage.planarlegends.com/. Then about a month ago the server I was working on slowed down and I found myself with free time again in regards to my Neverwinter Nights involvement. Shortly after this the news for Pathfinder Online hit and that really ignited my interest in building a Pathfinder NWN server. So for the last week I’ve been formulating, contacting NWN friends to bounce ideas off of, and planning as I try and decide if this project is worth starting. Which brings me to my main question, how interested would the Pathfinder community be in playing on a Golarion based NWN server? I’m leaning towards the setting being based out of Varisia, I’m just trying to decide whether to have the server center be either Sandpoint or Riddleport at this point. With the current price of NWN (only 10 dollars at Good Old Games http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/neverwinter_nights_diamond_edition) it’s a very accessible game for those of you who might be new to it or looking to get back into it but can’t find your CDs. From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Carl Sagan "You know how I define the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there... just to scare the s%@@ out of the middle class. Keep 'em showing up at those jobs." -- George Carlin Zark wrote:

Higher ground does not provide a +1 bonus to ranged attacks, only to melee attacks. Yet another reason not to lean over the edge of one of the wizard's "create pit" type spells, especially given the oft-overlooked point that ending your turn adjacent to one of these means you have to make a reflex save (at +2) or fall in and suffer the consequences (which generally range from screwed to dead).

You can shoot gargantuan two handed rifles in one hand . Seriously, a gargantuan double hackbut in one hand, well with enough strength. Sometimes rules are so silly they are cool again. Anyone care to convert 2d12 (from normal) to gargantuan damage?

The number of people that keep wanting to use spellcraft for concentration checks is baffling to me. 5 out of the 6 newest(to me) players I have met are surprised when I open the magic chapter to the part where it shows the concentration rules, and how they work. Maybe it was that way in the beta version.

ryric wrote: But as ability damage works in PF, if you have a 12 and lose 1 point, your modifier does not change. Ah! I understand now, well that is crap IMHO. Did 3.5 work like that? Is the PF text perhaps badly worded and the intention was that ability modifiers should drop in line with ability score? "For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability" is technically not incorrect, every two points will result in a -1 whether your original score is odd or even. However it needs an addendum to indicate that if your score was originally even then even 1 point could lead to a modifier reduction.

Let us phrase it this way: In pathfinder, unlike in 3.5, ability damage applies a penalty of 1/2 the ability damage (rounding down), irrespective of the ability score being affected. 4 strength damage will always result in a -2 to strength related rolls, no matter whether your strength score is odd or even. In my experience, GMs "get" it faster than players, because the odd/even math was never too tough for players, GMs have to juggle many more statblocks and penalties.

I don't think this one has been mentioned yet, and it's something I never noticed before (or if I did, I promptly forgot): Monk fast movement does not stack with the bonus speed granted by expeditious retreat, haste or other effects that grant an enhancement bonus to move speed. Barbarian's fast movement, however, does stack, as explicitly stated in the class ability and because its bonus is untyped.

Hmm this is an odd one. Literally speaking I believe you are correct.
