Well I wouldn't say the Iconics are unrealistic. I can repair military radio equipment but I know next to nothing about my home town anymore because I left to go "adventure" in the Marines. Honestly I can think of plenty of reasons why the Iconics have the abilities they do. Valeros? Ride +10 (maybe he rode along with caravans when he was learning his trade. And being an adventurer how does he work knowledge local. Maybe he is from a few hundred miles away sure isn't local now. Seoni? Why not bluff she might be trying to convince others that she is a wizard instead of sorcerer. If that is the case sure a little knowledge arcana would be great. However I think that with her natural gifts she finds actual study of arcane things boring. There are a few people I know that are almost prodigees yet they put forth so little effort in their fields that they may as well have had a .5 GPA in college. Merisiel? I also know big city people who can't read a freaking map. Much less get around on their own and gather info about the undercurrents of the city. Not to mention one of them in particular is so incredibly rude that he can start a fight in about .1 seconds. It's not that he couldn't learn better. He just can't be bothered to learn better. People have attitudes were if you don't have to do it then you don't. She could easily just flich things from passerby without any real means of gathering info aside from their state of dress. You know if you got it fault it. So I guess what I am saying is this, I honestly feel that the Iconics abilities give them a story you just have to think of why they would do this. I have do it with my own characters build them and then sit and ponder what it all means. Once I figure that out, I'm ready to play motivations and ideas already fairly well developed just from that. Just my II cp I haven't been able to get the adventure finished yet but the PC's are up to the sniper attacks in Brindol. So far there has only been one PC death. However one other PC did have to be reincarnated. Overall it does run a bit on the combat heavy side but I threw in a little more RP and the players were loving it. Until Brindol where they have gotten a steady beat down. While overall somewhat interesting the one thing that stood out the most in this article was something that shouldn't have. I quote, "After flipping through the pages of this article." As if I am going to spend half the $30 ink cartrige to print this using my printer. On a good note I also caught the reference to "The Apocalypse Stone". Not that often actually. I forget where maybe Dragon a few years ago I read a lovely article that promoted the use of use limits for lots of things. So the Goblin shaman knows an ancient ritual that blesses a weapon for a week or even less. It works with multiple things. After the first few times the characters wised up and sold them off before time ran out. That in itself caused some great RP encounters with merchants and city guards. :D Aside from that I insure that while the npc's have more loot it's not always easy for PC's to get. I usually give them extra potions and such and they use them, generally before combat. If that fails, glass vials are extremely fragile. ;) One thing that helped me a lot was figuring out good monster tactics. The best lesson I ever had in that. Reverse Dungeon My usual PC's using the monsters literally ate my characters alive the first few encounters. Everyone plays different. In the end you just have to find something that works. Reading through the AP I don't think that there is a huge problem with difficulty. Then again I don't allow a 36 point buy, 28 or so is more than enough in my opinion. If we don't use point buy then everyone rolls 4d6 drop the lowest. Once What they roll is what they get. I don't like having first level god kids running around with every stat at 15 or higher. mwbeeler wrote: It doesn't have to go quickly by any means, maybe 1 / 2 posts a day tops by Paizo staff in the PbP section, with genuinely randomly selected players (could even use the iconic pregens), with the outcomes influencing the canon of the world. This actually sounds like a ok idea. The problem I see with it is that the Paizo gang then has to keep track of everyone who is playing in addition to their jobs. That is part of why it's hard to DM things for RPGA lots of paper work and things. Honestly using the all the Iconics(when they get finished) would be a decent idea to cut down on some paper work. Sticking with the Iconics means that magic items and such will always start with what is in their stat blocks. In addition if this becomes a really viable idea I could see using gamemastery modules and maybe even Pathfinder to run the Living Campaign. To put it simply as the RPGA has those forms that get filled out and turned in to see what "really" happened with an adventure, Paizo could add a www.whatever.com address with a few questions to see how the module/pathfinder turned out. In order to make sure that games are ran correctly I would just say that the Paizo team give DM's who "qualify" the ability to answer the questions for a month or two after an adventure or pathfinder came out. By qualify it could be a login number next to the web address. That way anyone who buys a Paizo adventure could help influence the world! I had some more ideas but while typing this I have lost them in my haze of sleepiness. If I remember them tomorrow, I'll post them. In closing on my thoughts I will put out that I would be happy to help with anything along the lines of this project. Goodnight everyone. (Time to go shove the fat dogs out of my spot on the bed.) Anytime a party is having a cakewalk through my adventure I do at least three things immediately. First max hp for npc's and monsters. Secondly max hp from healing. Third I give them a wealth level equal to the pc's. Not saying it will always work but these along with good tactics usually means my pc's start whining about getting their asses handed to them all the time. So then I cut it back a bit at a time until I stop hearing complaints. Just my 2 cp First of all if that offended anyone sorry but come on. I played with Barbies too, not much else to do when your have an older sister and the nearest neighbor is 1/2 a mile down the road. Still I see no problem with saying that about any "iconic" toy line. Take He-Man for instance, while I loved the show as a kid and technically still do. You have to admit that Prince Adam comes across as kind of gay. (No offense meant just saying that I think he was.) Not to mention that there was what 4 women in the whole show. Anyway no offense meant to anyone over anything. Also I would love to see how Orcus pimps out his corvette. ;) My favorite was a player whose Rogue always tumbled and jumped etc.. For the most part all that didn't bother me since combat was never static. However at one point the party was crossing a very small natural bridge over a canyon when they were attacked by some flying monster that I can't remember. (Geez I'm starting to get feeble minded.) Well some of the creatures land on the bridge while others are flying by. The Rogue trying to stay out of the heaviest fighting decides to tumble. He rolls a nat 1. So he falls but manages to catch himself at the last moment. Then one of the monsters moves to stand over him and prepare to kick him off the bridge. So the Rogue holding on for dear life says, "I let go and try to stab him." So I tell him sure you try but since your falling you miss. Shisumo wrote:
Ohhh... now that would be interesting to see. Sweet... Pathfinder Goblins... now if only one of them was crunching on some identifiable doggy treats it would fit just fine. For me at least. I do so love freaking my players out so I told them that they hate dogs and horses so much they eat them. After a brutal cooking if possible or if not then a quick bite for the nasty things. plungingforward2 wrote:
*shifty eyes* Excuse me, Mr. Kruelaid I need you to come with me. Yes sir we recently heard you had a decent idea and we can't let radicals like you threaten our plans. So if you could just step in here and... Well to be honest the blurb of text about it just didn't strike a cord with me. (YES, I meant cord not chord. So I like ropes and stuff big deal. ;) ) However I do enjoy a good joke and challenge. The Gninjitas and poo flingin' Savage Flyn Monkeys cracked me up. So I'll take the challenge and see what all the fuss is a about. (After payday) Spoiler:
However if you fail to meet my standards I am afraid that I will have to add skinkicker Snackers and Fried Monkey feces to the menu of a KFC near you. ;) What gets me is this. Fighter crits and lets say 1d10+5 dmg twice... ok. Now the Wizard crits his fireball and it's 5d6 x2 minimum. All because and I quote, "Have you played a spellcaster and been a little envious of the excitement of other players when they roll critical hits? Have you wished that you could do that for your spells?" So basically somebody felt left out so we better make them feel better. It's like saying congratulations son your team just placed last out of 400 others. Here's a trophy for you. I HATE that mentallity. EDIT: Geez my spelling and grammer suck tonight. (More so than normal... I think.) Yeah, I don't think so either. Admittedly I have been playing for almost 20 years now. (Damn my brother and that little red box to hell) (Ok not really :) ) Yet it just doesn't seem right to be able to CRIT a fireball or even funble a fireball. (Though if it's a fumble then I'm calling a direct hit on the party with them flatfooted) By the same note I cannot see how someone standing in the middle of a breath weapon doesn't get a lil crispy (without some kind of ability better than a Reflex save.) Again in the Corps I actually and unfortunately got to see the effects of an AT-4 back blast on someone. Needless to say I never want to see something like that in person again, cause the only thing that didn't get toasted was the boots and they were smoking. So I'm sorry if I can't buy into the whole, "Hey I'm a thousand years old and I just never got the hang of melting heroes." bit. I don't see how in the hell a dragon fumbles a breath weapon. What he forgot to breath. Damn, I knew I should have given him that auotmatic breathing feat!!!! http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20071005 Ok, so let me get this straight. If I am standing in the center of a Great Wyrm Red Dragons Breath weapon with no way of hiding behind something or moving the huge blast of flame will actually miss me, unless he rolls high???????????????????????? WOW!!! Wish I had known that when we used to fire AT-4 in the Marines. Cause hell if I can just stand there and the fire will completely miss me then screw it, why run. That my friends is stupid and completely unrealistic even in a fantasy world. (Unless of course your a ninja... then maybe)
