So far flying home Sunday
I know many people have real life responsibilities that force them to rush home after Gen Con, but I wish everyone could just relax and wind down Sunday evening. Just visit with new/old friends, maybe play a casual game, or just have a good meal and enjoy company. Get a good night sleep and casually travel home on Monday. The convention is such a whirlwind of activity, people to see, games to run and play, and all the shiny to see, it just sucks that so many people have to add a sudden return trip before they've have a moment to catch their breath.

Yeah, I've done it both ways in the past and by far my preference is waiting till Monday.

This year, I'm spending Sunday-Wednesday before the Con in Ohio with my parents and my daughter, and I'll trade time with them for time to unwind afterwards gladly.

Sundays are for hitting the Dealer's Hall hard and driving home.

I much prefer getting home and then having that Monday to veg out than doing so at the con site and then having to look forward to a travel day. Far more relaxing (and cheaper) to do so.

PCs will do what PCs want to do. But one of them could totally be a hero and offer up their immortal soul to avoid the cost entirely! :D

Thurston,

Kudos on a well-written scenario. I've been out of the loop for most of PFS since the beginning of Season 3 and this is probably my favorite scenario that I've read.

Still wish there was a reporting condition to capture all of my tables' desire to _ally_ with the onyx alliance against the Blackros's. That still gets reported as "stay involved in the feud" but I fear as written that assumes the PCs want to help the Blackros's instead.

Agreed. Sarnia did a good job convincing my players who the villains of the Blackros stories were (the Blackroses)

They were ready to swear loyalty before even entering the Wightir House.

I think this is more of an expectation bias.

You're absolutely right the Golarion had a lot going down on it, but that's cuz it was special is so many ways (the starstone being a major part of that)

But even on Golarion most regular people didn't speak the planar languages, though many of the monsters did.

Instead we've been getting (and correct me if I'm wrong, my experience has been more on the AP side of things than the SFS side, though that has been changing) alien races that don't speak any recognizable language, which is what I would expect to see.

Now, their high level people probably could speak a planar language like our high level people do, but there's been hosts of reasons why we haven't run into high level alien races as of yet (APL being the main one).

Anyway, just my 2cp

Thanks for the update Michael. I visit several times a year and have gotten very close to relocating to the area multiple times and information had become hard to find.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

If you sort by game, there are 2 Pathfinder entries. The second one is 2nd edition.

I've never had a bad experience with Paizo's customer service people.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

The first one seems to be the one that can take the longest, but it was intended to fill an 8 hour slot when it was written.

All of them tend to run longer but they seem to shorten up as you progress.

There may be some way the powers that be can help, but no idea what to do here besides emailing customer service.

Barring some future convention cert or other strange boon, there is no way to transfer as Sean said :(

If that wasn’t enough, as they were leaving, my players told me how much they appreciated the work I put into Society so hey can have good experiences at my tables. Not going to lie, I cried a little at that one. I have an amazing community and I feel blessed to have players that will stop and help the new members or recruit friends to come play. But these displays of appreciation for me—that got me.

It was nice to know I was appreciated <3

Heck, Kiela, I don't even know you and I appreciate all the effort you put in for this. Way to go working that extra mile and it seems you've surrounded yourself with the right people. :D

I don't know, if it's important enough and people are'n't volunteering it might be time to up the ante and make it more appealing. What worked in the past is now longer working.

I think the bigger issue is simply how big a deal this convention is. The end of one Campaign and the beginning of another. Most people I know who want to GM, want to play the endings/beginnings.

This is a big con for Paizo on many levels.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

I could see the new campaign starting with Year or Season 11 confusing new players.

I'm a little surprised to hear that, Amazon routinely beats my subscription hardbacks by 1-2 weeks, comparing with friend's order (or the times I get confused/convinced a product isn't part of a subscription and order through Amazon).

I've noticed since my Stafinder subscriptions that my orders tend to arrive much sooner than they used to.

If you have any of the bases we've made in the last few years, you'll note they have the Pathfinder logo on the bottom.

Turns out we've had pretty good luck paying artists to make pictures of monsters for us over the past few years.

I have to say that writing an art order when I had the opportunity to create a monster in an other games Bestiary made me incredibly nervous. However, thanks to the great artist we had it that line it came out far better than I expected. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind but it came out so much better.

Are there any particular creatures that struck that nerve with you?

Grand Lodge

I did True Dungeon one year when a friend got sick and gave me her ticket. The experience was rather miserable and I was quite glad I didn't have to put the rather expensive price forward.

I am glad that so many people enjoy the event, but it's not for everyone.

Figure out a way to build robust rules that don't shunt your character sheet to the side. I want a mass combat game in Pathfinder to be one where you NEED your character sheet to play, because that's the game Pathfinder is. Subsystems that don't really involve your PC are less satisfying to me.

The mass combat system should be easy to learn but difficult to master, and should have a wealth of expansion and customization without being overwhelming and impossible to learn.

I'm not sure it's something that can exist, in other words.

Legend of the Five Rings did this a decade and a half ago.

So did D&D. So did a lot of games. Pathfinder is a more complex game than most of those though, and it doesn't really help me if a system exists for a different rules set.

The way L5R did this was to have a skill (called Battle) which was used for possibly determining ambushes and battle conditions and also for thier mass combat system.

You would choose how deeply involved you wanted your character to be in the fight and then roll percentile on a chart to see what sort of encounter you would get (that roll being influenced by said Battle skill). You then had the character(s) take part in that little vignette until the battle was over (usually a number of rolls on said chart).

I suppose something like this could work for Pathfinder, but it's not really Mass Battle as many people are thinking. It's just participating in a mass battle. I think what James is speaking of when discussing the topic is controlling the army as a whole.

Am I right in that James?

Still, I think fun things could be done with such a system in a heavily war-based Adventure Path.

Is this kind of thing something we could see if such an AP was designed?

The important thing to keep in mind is what your players want.

I'm the knid of player that enjoys the chance of death and even dying. I would not like it to discover that GMs had been pulling punches on me. Enough so that I would probably not play with that GM again.

There are players who feel the exact opposite.

As a GM, I don't *want* to kill players. There are those that do, and they really don't have a place in Organized Play. At the same time, you can't be afraid to kill a player as well.

Grand Lodge

I think so too, but I am a bit biased.

Grand Lodge

Hey all,

Paradigm Concepts has launched the Kickstarter for the 2nd Edition of Witch Hunter: The Invisible World. Please check it out and donate if you so choose.

There are special donation tiers for those who want to play the Organized Play Campaign that will be launching at Origins. Currently it is only Werewolves (and they sold out quick) but more is coming!

Just go HERE!

This is the best answer. It isn't a huge overstep in authority.
What I'm getting is that the VC in question didn't just ban the player from their venue, he was essentially told that he was not permitted to run or play in any events in that geographical area.

In this particular case I know of no event which the local VC isn't the Organizer/Lead GM at. So it is essentially the same. Tho Andre is certainly welcome to (and I know he has the capacity to) organize his own games.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Grats Dan, I thought I'd beat you there but other projects got in the way. You deserve it, even after sharing a hotel with you last GenCon.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Contact Mike Lindner on these boards or get the email from the most current Pathfinder Guide to Organized Play. He may be able to help you as he is the current Venture Captain.

I'll be there

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Should be fixed

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

All tables have been reported :)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Thanks to everyone who came. We had a really good con.

17/20 tables made, thats 4 more tables than last year.

12 New PFS Numbers given

35 Individual PFS Numbers used

We had a few problem people at times but no big problems with anything else, always a good thing.

This was a good way to go out as my last official event as a VC.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

If it's to get a good table at this con, it's me. If it's to get a good table at future Omaha area cons, it's Mike.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Huzzah. My last con being the main Organizer for this one as well :) My last con as a VC though they alreadyy took my forum title (meanies) :P

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Woot!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

It does. And you're the first judge to get to tear them up at Nuke-Con.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

I sure was. :P The creatures involved look to me like they will be steamrolled normally, so somply allowing them to fight defensively may make the fight more worthwhile. *shrug* It probably stems from the control undead error mentioned earlier

2) ugh, probably skip it at high tier then

7) I'm not seeing it on the PRD, though mayabe I'm failing my Perception Check

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

1) Yeah it's annoying. I'd probably run it through Hero Lab

2) Still use Scare, Most PCs swho play the mod should still be affectable. Them being immune at 7th level would actually be a good Oh shoot moment for her

3) Yeah, I'm getting slightly over a CR7 actually using the XP budget method.

4) I think this is jest development trying to make her a tad easier. I just wouldn't look behind the curtain on that one

5) If you have the time, use the rebuild, otherwise use the quick.

6) Agreed, should be command, but it works basically the same as Control

7) I'm not seeing that listed in the PRD. Where is it from? From what I'm reading, they'd be able to.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Willkommen.

Grand Lodge

Hrm, maybe if I had a few players who were more PBP saavy and willing to help aPBP newb GM I might do this.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

I'll be at Origins Shivok, hopefully in my new position. Until then, I'll be doing a lot of writing.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Grats on the promotion Mike!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Thanks Doug, hopefully I can see you at a table at one of the cons.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

Hello all,

As of October 7th, the last day of Nuke-Con I will be stepping down as Venture-Captain of Omaha. This is not done in response to anything or because of any issues I have with anyone, in fact I consider myself to be on good terms with almost everyone. Another opportunity has come my was which you can read about HERE if you so desire.

I have learned a lot from Mike, Mark, the other VOs and many of you that I hope I can take into this new experience. I'll still be lurking around in the shadows and playing the occasional game but will be slowly fading away from regular play as I ramp up the new opportunity.

Thank you all for the good times.

I've tried running the Key of Destiny series in the past. Would be fun to try that again in a PBP. Unfortunately I'm a PBP newb.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5

I've been thinking of designing one but just haven't gotten around to it. They seem like fun and spending cash for that fun seems like a decent trade off for me.
