The sensible answer is to purchase the PDF from Paizo and you can print them from that. I don't see why Paizo can't simply provide a PDF of the buildings for people to use, though...

Re. Book of the River Nations - I do have this and I am considering putting informaiton into the Excel sheet from the publication. There's probably some bits and pieces in there already, but plenty more still to be added! Can't offer a timeframe for doing so, unfortunately...

Once RunebladeX makes his Open Office spreadsheet generally available, I'll take a look and see about migrating some details into the Excel spreadsheet. I take the point that some people use Excel, some OpenOffice, but the only option is to have two divergent spreadsheets as they are developed/maintained by two different people! I doubt they'll every become identical.

I would LOVE to know how you did this. I've modified the sheet - mostly added more buildings and a few new functions - but being able to add maps with graphics would be a crowning glory!!

If you can explain how easily here, that'd be awesome, or would you consider sending me a copy?? peacecorpsbrian at hotmail dot com

Thanks

In Excel, you can just copy and paste images into the sheet - make sure you unlock the map sheets first to allow the pasting! Turn off maintaining aspect ratio in the images properties to scale them to fit. Not sure how to do it in Open Office though, sorry.

The building images you'll have to source from somewhere else, of course... :)

As an aside, what other functions have you added? I'm curious to know what other additions/improvements people are making to the sheet.

Sounds great! I'd certainly like to see a copy, as I'm sure other people would too. I can take a look what mods you've made and transfer relevant bits into the Excel sheet, no problem.

I've just put my sheets up at Mediafire which seems to do the trick. Doesn't cost anything to set up an account or upload files, so give that a try.

Any problems, let me know and I'll give you my email so you can send me the sheet direct and I can upload it on your behalf.

I've been using this sheet for almost a year now, and it works beautifully.

I'm wondering, has anyone tried this using Numbes on the iPad? I'd love to be able to just take the iPad to my sessions, rather than bringing a whole laptop to manage the Kingdom bookkeeping.

Thanks!

Not sure that Numbers has the functionality to handle the formulae within the spreadsheet, or perhaps some of the other complexity. If anyone has tried it in Numbers, I'd be keen to hear too!

Ok, I've updated the Kingmaker Kingdom Sheet with some tweaks and more major additions, as follows:

  • Corrected an error in the weather calculator for the seasonal temperature variation.
  • Added Random Personality Trait generator to Overall page.
  • Added Character Data sheet to allow names and stats to be entered and then selected on the Overall sheet.
  • Added 51 new optional building types gleaned from the Paizo messageboards and incorporated them into the calculations!
  • Added Building Notes page to help determine which buildings offer what benefits.
  • Made the Leadership role selection on the Overall sheet selectable from drop-down lists. The relevant bonuses are calculated automatically.

To fix the problem with Districts not accurately being calculated, you now have to manually enter the number of Districts in each City. It's the simplest solution to the problem without linking to the City Map tab which I am loathe to do. If anyone has any better suggestions, please let me know.

Version 3.2 of the spreadsheet can be downloaded from here. As usual, any problems/errors, let me know!

Glad the spreadsheet is proving helpful (certainly helps me)!

1: The weather modifier at the bottom of the overall page seems to always read as some variation of cold and stormy regardless of what the season is.

Thanks for pointing it out, you've spotted an error which I'll rectify in the next upload. It's just incorrectly selecting the season each time, simple to fix.

2. I can't seem to figure out how to get my first city (city1 sheet) to have more then one district. My group currently has 3 city districts. I've unhidden the city blocks on City Map one and filled 3 with the buildings they own but the city districts cell on city 1 still reads as having 1 district

The way the spreadsheet calculates how many districts there are is by summing up the number of blocks and dividing by 36. Therefore if you have created three districts, each with only 10 blocks, it calculates that as one block.

This needs a little bit of work so that it can correctly identify the number of districts, irrespective of how many blocks are in each district. I'll get on to it!

Absolutemarc wrote:
3. My team built an arena, its the only arena they have. When I try to put "1" in for number of arenas on the City 1 sheet, It tells me that a city is only allowed to have 1 arena and won't let me add it in.

Hmmm - not sure on this one. Works fine for me in MS Excel when I place a '1' in the box against Arena. I'll check there's not an error with the uploaded sheet versus my copy.

Thanks for pointing these out, I'll get straight onto fixing the problems. May take a couple of days, so please bear with me.

How old? You can get a Microsoft Compatability Pack for Excel here which may do the trick for you.

Saving out as a 97-2003 file highlights errors due to backwards incompatability issues, so there's no guarantee it's going to work! Give it a shot, though.

Can you turn off the automatic random event calculator? I think I would rather have a pull-down and select the event after an old-fashioned dice roll. That would also make it easier to handle the set event pieces.

Unfortunately not. You could unlock the sheet and manually edit it, just by deleting the code in those boxes and replacing it with a drop-down list from the Event Generator tab (currently hidden), or add in your own list.

You can then roll a D146 to determine the event!! :)

Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Hmmm - can you provide a bit more info. Have you created 12 cities each of one district or one city with 12 districts? Have you made any mods to the calculations or copy-and-pasted the city tabs rather than using the existing ones (this will not then include them in the calcs, you have to use the unhide option to reveal the unused city tabs of which there are currently 25)?

I'll take a look in the meantime and see if I can figure out where the problem might be based on the info you've provided.

Addendum: I've just tried creating 13 cities and it seems to work fine like that, calculating correctly the City Summary and Overall tabs....

Thanks in advance.

I can see the interest in tracking kingdom growth month-by-month, but I also think it's quite an onerous task and one which would suck up a lot of time. I think you've already come to that conclusion, too!

Some of the process could be automated, using drop-down lists to look up building stats/costs and then tallying the results monthly. Unfortunately, a lot of the data would need to be entered manually, such as magic items bought/sold and impact on BP.

This kind of thing could be integrated into one of the current kingdom spreadsheets, but it would take a lot of work. You could have a Monthly Update sheet which is completed, you hit a button and that months updates are then summarised on a separate sheet which is continually added to.... rinse and repeat.

One alternative is you use one of the existing sheets to do all the grunt work and keep a very basic side-sheet with just simple info, such as buildings added/changed, farms, hexes, etc, etc. I wouldn't track all the stats though - that's probably where most of the tedium lies!

Bump.

Someone told me they were probably "Comments." That's certainly how they look and act, but when I Command-Click them, it allows me to add another Comment. If they were actually Comments, I shouldn't be able to add another one (Excel Help says one Comment per cell). And it lets me add a new Comment but not edit the existing one.

So what are these things and how do I edit them to match my house-rule values?

This was answered earlier on in the thread - they're Input Messages related to the Data > Data Tools > Data Validation option (MS Excel 2007). Similar in some ways to comments, which is what I thought they were too, initially.

I don't believe this has been raised elsewhere but I have a question about magic item generation in the kingdom building rules of Kingmaker.

The items are all supposed to be magical, AFAIK. You can use the Random Magic Item Generation table 15-2 in the Core Rulebook (page 461) then either continue using the Core tables or jump back to the GMG as you see fit.

Alternatively use one of the random magic item generators out there to save yourself some time rolling all those dice. Nethys did a cool one which you can find listed on the messageboards somewhere (sorry, don't have the link hand).

Sorry to hear that - it's probably down to OpenOffice and/or your PC, as it works fine in Excel.

As I did with the original sheet, take from it what you find useful, modify what you need to and ditch the rest! :) After all, each of us plays the game differently and it seems from your earlier posts you've already made it your own, which is great.

As always, any suggestions for additions/changes, let me know!

ZoeTrope- your document made me want to change a few things to tailor to my needs so i went and did some learning up on writing some excel. I have gotten it to where i can now add PC's and NPC's on an added in sheet with all there stats. It then enables my players to select there leaders via a drop down which automatically searches for the appropriate stat of the highest value and enters it in :D I dont think it will work in microsoft excel however as i don't think openoffice is backwards compatible.

Glad you managed to solve the OpenOffice problem!

I've taken on board your suggestion and modified the workbook to incorporate this flexibility using PC/NPC stats stored in a separate sheet. In my game, the PC's are pretty fixed in their roles but I guess the NPC's can change, plus any PC's which cop it may force a re-shuffle of the roles depending on the new characters. Means you only have to enter the stats once and then can quickly pick-and-choose roles.

I haven't fully tested it out yet, so will make it available in due course (unless someone desperately wants it!).

Here is v3.1 of the modified Kingdom Sheet, which:

  • Updates all the city tabs to the new format, removing the error
  • Corrects a couple of calcs on the Overall sheet
  • Adds a simple House Rules tab you can populate
  • Updates the Instructions

You can download it from here.

I see what you mean. You'll notice that the first five cities of the v3 mod have been added to and this error doesn't exist. The remaining hidden cities, six onward, haven't been updated (missing the Optional Buildings section) because it's a simple copy-and-paste job to update them.

The error is not a problem, though, just a relic of the original sheet and doesn't create a calc problem (tho will check again to make sure and tidy it up a bit). It's located where the Magic Item slots are, which aren't used for anything other than data entry.

Is there a way i can save it as the original "microsoft excel work sheet"?

Hmmm - not sure what's happening here. If you open the Excel file, modify it, then just save it (or save it as another name) there should be no problem doing that. Should be a .xlsx file which is Excel 2007 format - maybe you have an older vesion of Excel, but then it wouldn't necessarily work....?

Another district counts as another city for the purposes of pricing and everything else. This was said by James somewhere on the boards.

At the bottom of the excel sheet you should be able to right-click on a tab and create a new city. The new city for you will be the new district.

This wouldn't work anyway, as the calculations are linked to the city sheets already in existence. Adding a new city this way does not incorporate it into the calculations - you'd have to use/modify the city tabs which are already present, or update the formula.

starting to finally get used to your sheet berhagen.

one thing i've noticed i keep forgetting to change is kingdom size. It seems control DC will only reflect the kingdom size from the overall page. even though there is kingdom size on the kingdom sheet and another size box in consumption it seems there not tied together and you have to change each individually. was this an over sight or intentional? seems it wouldn't be too hard to tie these all together so updating one updated them all, just a sugestion...

Everything is linked to the number of hexes on the Kingdom sheet, so that's the only number you need to update. The values for Size and Control DC on the Overall sheet are calculated automatically.

If you've manually entered numbers in the Overall sheet, then you'll have wiped out the formulae there (especially if you downloaded my v3 mod, where I forgot to lock the cells on the Overall sheet!! Oh, and you'd need to press F9 on the sheet to update it, for reasons I can explain if you want...).

Sovereign Court

Following on from Berhagen's original spreadsheet, I've made some modificaitons of my own, including:

  • Random Event Generator
  • Basic Weather Generator
  • Additional Building/Resource Options
  • Basic city map functionality
  • Glorious Technicolor (not for the faint-hearted!)

If anyone wants the file, it can be downloaded from here.

Feel free to take or leave it as you please! Comments/suggestions welcome.

There are hidden worksheets including the Drop Down lists. Right click on any one of the tabs and select Unhide to be shown a list of all the hidden sheets.

Similarly there is a lot of hidden data/calcs on some of the sheets, such as the city sheets. Again, just unhide them to see what's there.

Hi,

I'm very keen to get those treasure and encounter tables into a digital format, so that they can be incorporated into some form of random generator. In particular, putting them into Excel or an equivalent database structure which can then be manipulated.

I've had a look on the messageboards, but as far as I can tell no-one has done this. I found a half-completed coded generator, but that's about it.

I don't particularly want to reinvent the wheel, so if anyone can point me to, or provide, the tables in something like Excel I'd be very grateful. :)

Cheers,
Z
