Nope, you didn't ramble too much James. :)

I suppose I took issue with the implication that a Chaotic Neutral (as an example), couldn't have a clear motivation to save the commoner from the falling statue, or that he couldn't have a desire to prevent two people from murdering one another.

I'm all for granting XP for good roleplaying. I give out plenty of it in my games. I suppose the reasons you gave above make sense to me - I'm just not sure I completely agree with them.

So I have a question regarding the adventure set within Istivin in 117, and this thread is as good a place to ask that question.

There are a couple of encounters that say (I'm paraphrasing): "If the party is good or lawful, award XP as though this were a CR X."

Well - why would I only award XP if the party were good or lawful? What is it about those encounters that makes it impossible for a chaotic neutral party to gain XP?

Guenther - you complained about no "D&D content" until page 40 - but there was. You just skipped past it. Silicon Sorcery and A Novel Approach are both D&D content.

Crumbles - I wouldn't call that kobold/goblin encounter a CR 4. You need to adjust it because the terrain was perfect the bad guys. It's no wonder they kicked your player's collective asses.

Patrick missed one area the bard excels in - disarming and tripping. The bard is the only class proficient with the lowly whip. This means - as long as the bard can continue to take 5' steps - he can trip and/or disarm with impunity on the battlefield.

Now, with that out of the way, time to get back to more on-topicness. I think Taricus provided the best answer yet. It's magic. It doesn't really have to make sense from the viewpoint of the real world.

Don't get me wrong - I often times find that very defense to be a poor one. But I think in this case, it works just fine.

right. The line you quoted, Todd, is meant to indicate that you can't restore an undead creature to, er, unlife.

No problem. I just happened to have come across it recently while looking for something else. :)

It's in the raise dead spell. From the SRD:

My current record is a character with 2 core classes and 2 prestige classes: a bard 12/divine agent 2/fighter 1/dervish 1. Wonder how many more prestige classes I'll be able to cherry pick before my DM smacks me down?

You have much work to do. ;)

My personal record is 6, done twice: once with 3 core classes and 3 prestige classes (cleric 1/rogue 3/fighter 4 (I think)/Holy Liberator 5/Templar 1/Divine Disciple something (I forget); and also done once with 2 core classes and 4 prestige classes Abjurer 1/fighter 5/arcane archer 1/deepwood sniper 3/order of the bow initiate 5/Peerless Archer 2.

Looks to me like you ought to send in a proposal. :) You've got a bunch of cool ideas here that could make an interesting article. Send in a query and pitch the idea.

Anyway, I finally got to look at the article, and it was great. I don't say that to brag; what I mean is I wrote the article before the new Dragon format, and the editors had to patchwork it a bit. They did a fantastic job of keeping most of my material while making it fit the new format. Some stuff got cut, unfortunately, but they left the creation myth in its entirety which was my favourite bit. Yay for the editors!

As a friend of Amber's who did some proofreading for her prior to its submission, I'll have to agree with her when she says the editors did a good job reworking the article to fit the new format. When I first read her article after she sent it to me, I absolutely loved the creation myth; it was interesting, and added depth to a race I generally ignore in my games. They're no longer "dwarves that are more grumpy than usual." I was glad to see it made the "final cut" in its entirety.

For those of us who have no idea what these are, could somebody give a little synopsis?

I haven't received my copy of 325 yet, but I heard from somebody that the Duergar article was awesome. I forget who it was who told me that, though. ;)

Excellent, Mike. Since my most recent query was entirely Class Acts articles, I'll go forward that to you right now. Expect an e-mail from me shortly. :)

I also have a suggestion that may or may not be useful. Have you considered using an "auto responder" on the dragon@paizo.com and dungeon@paizo.com accounts? At least that way, people know the e-mail was received. When you have a large backlog, you can alter the message to indicate that, too.

Thanks for your assistance, Mike!

edit: Also, would you and Wes like me to resubmit my recent submissions? One was a Gaining Prestige, one was a spellcraft and two were Equipment articles. Sorry if I sound like a pest. ;)

Just a quick question about something that may be impacted by the change:

Does this change affect queries (and submissions) sent recently? I sent a query on September 24th, and have yet to hear back. Two and a half weeks sounds like a long time to get a reply back for a query.

Of less concern is some submissions I had sent shortly before that date. It's less of a concern, because I know submissions can take longer. I just want to make sure nothing goofy may have happened in the process. :)

I'm pretty sure there's one in the book "Relics and Rituals" by Sword and Sorcery games.

My most recent inquiry took about 10 days or so to get a reply. I wouldn't sweat it yet, Johnny.

A friend of mine has an article in #324. I'm looking forward to getting my copy so I can give it a read. :)

Another friend of mine has an article in #325. I'm anxiously awaiting that one, too. :D

As to the topic at hand, I have heard good things about The Seafarer's Handbook Big Jake mentioned, but I do not own a copy (yet). However, FFG is one of my favorite 3rd party publishers and I highly recommend them.

I shall keep this in mind the next time I submit a query. :)

I liked the column. *shrug* I'm certainly willing to see where the column goes from here, and how it develops.

Seeker, you've pretty much written an article query for Dragon right there! You should flesh out the format a bit and email it to Paizo.

Heck, if you don't want to do it, I'LL write it. Great springboards, man! I especially like the idea of naturally-occurring curses that spawned our real world superstitions.

I agree, Seeker. You should flesh your post out a little bit and send it along!

For those looking for more Eberron stuff, hopefully the query I submitted recently will be accepted. :-)

As Jonathan Drain pointed out, though, the folks at Dragon have indicated they plan to accept less stuff that is campaign specific. Given that, I'll be pleasantly surprised when my query is accepted. ;)

The Order of the Stick is a must read for D&D fans. You can find it at http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript

Did anybody make it to the Paizo booth? I heard that was quite an experience in itself. :)

Indeed. I even managed to walk away from your booth with a free copy of AEG's "World's Largest Dungeon"! Very sweet!
