Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos addresses Smeed.
"It appears that the lady has decided to be very generous with you. More generous than I personally think someone like you probably deserves. Should you or your employers remember or discover anything further about what happened to Larur, I hope that you will recall that generosity, and the ease with which we dealt with your security, and that you will pass on your discoveries to us."
Intimidate d20+3=16

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos shrugs. "I felled the beast, so I will heal it."

After first ensuring it is secure, he sings a note of power and heals some of the damage on the baboon. Then he backs away quickly.

CLW

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Having done his part by neutralising the foe, Zavos is content to let the others deal with restraining him.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Trying to stop the loanshark without any bloodshed, Zavos hums a note of power.

Sleep spell, Will DC 14

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos moves up while drawing his weapon, and skewers the baboon.

Initiative (1d20+2=12)
Sorry folks, I didn't think fascinating it for 2 rounds would help. Guess I was wrong :(

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos calls through the door, "Would you prefer to discuss the murder evidence with us, or with the gendarmes?!"

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos steps to the side, and waves Kelne towards the door.

"That rudeness was uncalled for. We should speak with this gentleman."

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"We can speculate about possibilities as much as we wish, but I think we won't get any answers until we start asking questions."

Zavos starts knocking on Smeed's door.

What information are you trying to get from the neighbors...?

Whatever we can get about Smeed. Whether Larur was here last night.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos accompanies Amunyet, and takes the lead role in discussions.

Diplomacy (1d20+8=27) Not including any aid from Amunyet or others.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos looks around to see what else is in the area. Perhaps a neighbour may have seen Larur here last night.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"Would that include the payment that Larur brought you last night?"

DM Rimrock wrote:
Do you want to keep the wand and take a rank in Use Magic Device? Remember, you have gained a level.

Nope, I've levelled already, and it doesn't look like the beta has made UMD any more viable at low levels. I think we're better off with the cash, unless someone else wants it.

"I could ask around, see what my various friends may have heard about Larur."
Gather Info (Diplomacy) if needed (1d20+8=15)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos suggests that it is better for Zindit to take both spider climb potions. He would rather have the shield of faith or wait til we get new stuff (ie another longbow). He cannot use the wand, yet.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos offers helpfully, "Well everyone, I'm not really sure what else we can accomplish here. Unless someone else has an idea, i suggest that we gather up the valuables and head back to the Goblin."

;)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

As disappointed as he may be to give up feeding the birds, Zavos will rejoin the others.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Oblivious to the activity elsewhere in the shelter, Zavos helps Geezer feed the pigeons.

"I don't know any thugs. I have heard the name 'Splithog Pauper' before, but I have never met him. I just send messages on my birds for Father Padrick. I can't see so well no more, so Baslton helps me with the messages. Would you be so kind as to fetch me a bag of feed from my room there so I can feed my birds?"

Then the man adds "My name is Geezer Pidge. What is yours kind sir? And what was all the fighting about? I can still smell the blood."

"I will be happy to help you with the feed in a moment."

"I am Zavos. My friends and I were attacked by a group of armed ruffians working for this Pauper fellow."

"Why would Father Padrick allow crimnals to operate here? Or would Baslton do that? I assume that is the initiate?"

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"Not to worry, Granther, the fighting seems to be over."

"Do you know anything about the activities of this 'Splithog Pauper' and his thugs?"

Diplomacy check (1d20+7=18)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

While the others are involved in their various business, Zavos goes to the deck to calm down the cowering old man.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos looks around and gathers the rest of the party.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos pursues the beggar, and attempts to Daze him.

Is this the same beggar?

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos hefts his rapier and prepares to back Kelne's play.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Seeing that he has no bowshot at the fleeing beggar, Zavos tags along with Kelne.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Just double-checking. The beggar got completely away in 1 round?

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos decides to stick with his apparent strength, and attempts to daze the beggar again.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos continues to try to keep the beggar dazed.

Gotta love unlimited cantrips :)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Sorry bout that, lost track. You did exactly what I would have.

"Take him alive, Kelne."

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos calls out, "A little help would be appreciated!" and attempts to keep his opponent dazed.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos tells the boy, "Get back inside."

He then attempts to daze the beggar.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos continues to watch the boy, ensuring he doesn't flee.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos sees the congestion ahead of him, and chooses to try to stop the fleeing boy.

Move down to where I can see him, cast Daze (DC13).

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos does what he can to distract the half-orc from Tessirda and Kelne.

Aid another on whoever attacks half-orc next (1d20=15)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Yeah, I expected that it would miss. Looking forward to having a BAB. :) (and I can also take Finesse)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

As his foe is too close to risk casting a spell, Zavos draws his rapier and attacks.

Attack on Half-Orc (1d20=19)
Roll to confirm crit (1d20=11)
Damage if 19 is a hit (1d6=2)

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos casts Cure Light Wounds while behind cover, and reaches around the wall to aid Kelne.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Hoping to disable another foe, Zavos casts Hideous Laughter at the guard looming over Uhz, then races to the top of the stairs near Kelne.

Will save DC14, or prone and unable to act for 1 round. Move to D7

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Sorry, I was waiting for the bowman.

Zavos moves to where he can see the foe D3?, gestures and speaks a word of power, and the bowman feels his mind start to cloud.

Daze. Will save DC 13

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"Shouldn't we speak with the priest first? Surely if anything is going on here, he will know about it. And if he is behind anything unpleasant, we should deal with him first.." Zavos suggests.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"You are correct, Zindit darling. Everyone inside."

Zavos follows his own advice, and heads for the door.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

"Perhaps we should see if we can discuss things with the head priest?", Zavos suggests.

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos nods to Tessirda.

"What is the situation, my lady? And how can I assist?"

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Is NPC Sorda with us?

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Assuming that Zavos is also in the vicinity..

Zavos bows and says, "Lead the way, my lady."

Zavos Szmyr (Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1)

The Rake

Zavos shares the information that he has heard with his new business associates, especially Kelne and Sorda.

word on the streets wrote:

You do hear something interesting about the blot: The Overlord has offered a 500 gp reward to anyone who can determine what the blot is and if it possesses a threat to the city. No one has yet to claim the reward.

You also learn a bunch of interesting stuff about Saul. In his younger days, when he was still "in the game", he moved around alot from boss to boss. Then his son Orik was involved with a scandal involving a local prostitute named Lavender Lil and an alchemist named Falk. The alchemist was murdered and the son fled the city. The clincher here, is that the alchemist was Clegg Zincher's brother. Of course Zincher was pissed off, and tried to have the gendarmes arrest Saul. However, when they went to his house they found it was burning, and before they could put out the fire, Saul's wife perished in it. They caught Saul trying to flee the city and he was charged with the murder of his wife and arson. But, get this, Zincher requested to the Overlord that they spare Saul's life and instead just chop off his hand, and the Overlord agreed to the request.

He also kids Kelne, "Surely by now you should have learned that if you need information about something, it is much more efficient to come to me first."

DM

Spoiler:
While Zavos is interested in pursuing the relationship with Sam, he will first ensure that she is not looking for more than he can give (ie. exclusivity, permanency, financial solvency...).
