Hey folks, my guy and I are visiting London for a few days this week and would like to get our group some souvenirs from a gaming store here. We googled it, but that proved fruitless. The dice from Herrods were a little out of our price range, though it would be cool to have sixers with diamonds in them.

Any hints would be great! Thanks!

Ok, you guys, I don't even know what to do. I held off watching the very last episode of BSG for months, but now my boyfriend is almost through the 4th season, so the ending is nigh. We're trying to think of what to watch next and are drawing a blank. He'd like something more science fictiony, but I don't really know what to picks. Firefly is out, seen it bunches. Um. And that's all I've got.

Any help would be very appreciated.

My dad's book was messed up, so he emailed Customer Service and we got THIS.

Thanks so so so so much. We really cannot deal with how cool this is. Consider us and the Polyhedron Patheon of Paizo forever allies and boon companions.

This is a shameless plug for the blog my gaming group and I are starting, called D&D&D Street on wordpress. The core group (me, my dad, and two others) have been together for several years, and we've introduced three newbs this summer. My boyfriend is one of them, and this was his idea.

The idea behind the blog is to show how we play as a group, becuase we have some really interesting sessions sometimes, and to show what we do as a community. We game at my dad's house on D Street and throughout the years, my family has grown from the American midwestern norm (divorced mom and dad, one bro, two step parents) to about a dozen people I consider my family. We have lots of fun and really look out for each other, go on real world adventures, and play lots and lots of D&D.

The blog is still in it's infancy, so there's not much up yet, but there will be! Check it out!

D&D&D Street!

Hey there everrrrrybody.

What's up with item cards? How would a DM use them? Would a DM need to buy several packs of cards to be sure they had enough variety? Have other DMs succesfully incorporated them into their games? What's that been like?

I'm really diggin' the CoT item cards that have been released and want to incorporate them into my game. I was thinking about just getting that pack of cards, but at the same time, I feel like I still would need more. Not that I'm complaining, just trying to figure them out.

:D

We have a tiny problem in my group. No one wants to be a cleric. There are 2 players left who haven't rolled up characters, and one of them has to be some type of healer, or at least throw healing spells around. The only other divine caster type is a paladin, and I know a bard could throw around light healing as well, but those two classes combined aren't nearly as effective as a full blown cleric or druid. Also, we're playing Council of Thieves, which looks like it may have undead, but who knows, right?

How you all can help: Give me badass cleric ideas.

The guy who can most effectively play a cleric doesn't want to becuase they are 'gay'. The other player should not be a spellcaster, ever, becuase of mental handicaps. He does an ok job, but I know the group will get very aggravated at his lack of....ministrations, if you will.

The party layout is here.

Please, Paizo no Kenobi, you're my only hope.

I'm leaving work right now and it's going to be a few hours before I can check the internet again. I shall return, though. The Moon's in Capricorn, I'm keeping my promises. Till midnight at least, who knows what happens then.

In all versions (excluding 1st and AD&D) a rogue's sneak attack is limited to a 30ft range. Are there any feats that increase that? What books?

Thanks.

So my boyfriend is a hip hop producer and loves to sample music for his beats. We were fiddling around on teh intertubes last night and found these! Aren't they neat?

Some people argue that what this dude is doing is just like mash-ups, a la Girl Talk and the Grey Album. But in all reality, what this guy is doing is sampling from a whole bunch of youtube vids. Imagine the awesome songs that could be made that started off as youtube vids. Gives me shivers. OR! Rick rolls for all!

I likes it.

I love fuzzy creatures and all the variable personalities that can come with fuzzy friends. Use this thread to post pictures/stories/whatever of your pets or your friend's pets or your family's pets.

Gillyweed Goblin is a rat terrier/pointer mix. And is the best.

Chou used to be my cat but I couldn't take her with me when I moved so now she's my dad's cat

And Nyquist is my boyfriend's cat, he lives at a music studio. And sometimes he gets squished.

Heya.

So, here's the rub. I'm teaching four of my friends to play D&D using Pathfinder rules and the Rise of the Runelords AP. I'm pretty excited about it, shaping young minds and what not, but also I haven't played with Pathfinder rules yet, so I'm looking forward to the changes and such.

I've read most of the AP and am pretty familiar with it, so that's not a concern, and I know 3.5 rules fairly well too. Anyone had any roadbumps with the new rules and new players thus far? Word of wisdom to give to a new player?

And I'll be updating this thread with our progress regularly, and maybe getting a few people to join the boards, so watch out!

So, thanks to player arrogance and a nasty critter, last session we had a near TPK. Only one character got out alive and, to put it nicely, the rest are 'off the wheel' for good now.

One player rolls up a half orc fighter/druid (we are gestalting, since only 3 people can play) with no history. The player, due to some mental handicaps, has a very hard time coming up with histories for his characters. I need to introduce him to the other characters and have the brillant idea that he is the bodygaurd of the other new character, an elven rogue/wizard from Absalom who is part of the Pathfinders.

It says in the Pathfinders Player's Guide that half orcs are incrediably rare and usually herald from either the northern raiders or live as outcasts in the south. Are there half orcs in Absalom? Where would they come from? And would a Shoanti ever accept a half orc as a team mate?

This tavern is very disheartening. Night will be falling soon and only a handful of patrons sit at the tables, eyeing us warily. I suppose I should be used to the looks the common man gives adventurors like us, but I still wish that they would see that we are not here to cause trouble or steal from them. The sight of Vehmic, even cloaked and hooded, made the patrons make warding signs. The bartender, a sullen fat man lazily wiping a mug as he glares at us, and only grunts when I ask if it is okay if I perform for our supper. I tried to sing something light, a few tunes about harvest and summer love, and it seemed to work a little. The glares are slightly less muerderous and one man almost smiles when Rufus does a short improntu beat on his buckler. He reddened and went to sit by Crowley when he saw that people where watching him. I noticed Quattro was talking to the bartender and then saw coins pass between them. I was quite curious to see what the ingenious smuggler did to get such a fine meal from the man and I found out later that Quattro gave him 20 dragons! That's more than the innkeeper makes in six months, I'm sure of it. It was very kind of Quattro to do that, even if he couldn't afford to. As we were eating, a man stomped in a gave us a note as he said ,"The town of Barovia needs heroes. I suppose you will do." Before I could reply, he was gone in a cloud of angry mutters. The note was very strange and reminded me of the Slaughterhouse boys.*

[the note is pinned to the page] ((Will be reproduced when I can!))

Barovia is where we are being sent to find the Lightbringers. After the man left, I found out later he was a Vistani and not to be trusted, I went to talk to the barkeep about Barovia. He didn't know much and only said that it was a sad, cursed place full of wolves and Vistani. Sounds great. Sometimes I wonder why I do this and then I remember Saltmarsh, how we could have prevented the horrible deeds done there and how we didn't. I remember that girl being attacked in the alley, the rats that swarmed out of the sewers, the valiant priests and warriors who fought the walking dead. I remember that horrible horrible man who tried to sacrifice me to his demon-lord and I wonder how many other young women fell to his blade. Then I don't complain about the flea ridden beds, weak ale, and muddy boots becuase I know we're trying to bring a little light into this dark place we live. Tomorrow we leave for the town. I will write when I can.

*Author's note: The Slaughterhouse Boys, like their name suggests, ran the Slaughterhouse of Saltmarsh. They helped bring the Ripper, the murderer of Saltmarsh, to unlife and held a peice of the Gem of Tharzidun. The craziest of the brothers, Stephen, kidnapped Lia during the zombie invasion and attempted to sacrifice her to a demon lord. The Gem fragment was recovered and give to the Church of Boccob to be destroyed.

I'm at work and really really need to find the dating system for Greyhawk. I've looked online and can't find anything. I know it's in the Gazeteer, which I unfortunately don't have with me. Basically, I just need to know what the current year is and the names of the month. Silly, I know. But, I'm working on a campaign journal for our new Expedition to Ravenloft arc and would like to post a link to it on the boards today.

If anyone knows offhand or could dig that out for me, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you!!

So, my players are at level 13 at the end of CoBI. They completely bypassed the Gianganto-Croc and the Eely Demon, which is probably why they are still 13th level. I know SoSc is written for 15th level characters, so I want to have them at least halfway to 15th by the time they show up in Scuttlecove. We're currently playing through "Prophry House Horror" with the Jade Ravens and then taking a break to start something else and for my mental health.

What do the esteemed minds of the boards think would be a good side-trek? I read somewhere (perhaps in the "Adding another villian" thread) about two Cults of Demo who act out each heads unconsciousness. I've been toying around an idea with dinos and horny monkey wars but don't have anything down on paper yet. I'm at work, so I don't have any of my magazines to reference.

Oh! And then theres a module in Dungeon #120 called "Lost Temple of Demogorgon". Would that work?

From My Crazy Roomate
So, this writer (blogger?) is M. P is the roomate. Hilarity ensues. M swears it's real.

P: Hey...hey.
Me: Yes?
P: Talk to me.
Me: HA! You're a girl. About what?
P: Did I ever tell you about my movie?
Me: Nope.
P: I'm going to make a movie. It's about a spaceman, in space.
Me: Ok.
P: He falls out of the spaceship and he floats between planets.
Me: A dude just floats by himself in space?
P: Yeah, he has food and water and air. Cool, huh?
Me: Yeah, but you might want to add some action to it.
P: Well, maybe he gets picked up by humans.
Me: Why humans? Aliens!
P: Aliens are everywhere.
Me: I know. Dude, there's one outside right now!
P: C'mon...you can only see aliens with infrared.
Me: Infrared?
( Looks at me like I am the most un-informed human on the planet )
P: Uh, yeah, because they're usually cloaked.
Me: Cloaked!?
P: Yeah, but even if they're not, they move too fast, you wouldn't be able to see them anyways.
Me: Like Superman!
P: No, Superman is fantasy, c'mon.
Me: Right, we're talking about the REAL beings from another planet that move faster than a speeding bullet.
P: Right.
Me: Do they do anything cool like solve crimes or something?
P: You know what, you never take this seriously.
Me: Sorry.
P: Yeah, just wait until they come, then you WILL be sorry, cause I'll be prepared and you won't.

[Sorry is this a double post!!]

So, my palyers bypassed about half of the dungeon at our last gaming session and is gearing up to go fight Kala. THe cleric, a Radiant Servant of Pelor, wants to call a planar ally of some type to help out in the fight.

My plan, since I don't think they need that much help, is to make the summoning fail becuase of the pervasive Abyssal qualities and becuase Kala has place wards around the temple itself to protect it. I was thinking a modron would pop in, say "We're sorry, your call could not be completed at this time. Please try again later," and then pop out. Is this fair to the players? I don't want a TPK on my hands but I also don't want them to walk right through this big, very important fight.

A couple of things to mention-they are currently in a rope trick. Would a summoning work there? If they tried to do it in the mudpool caves, would Kala 'feel' it and send something to stop it?

After a long hiatus from Shackled City, our group has started playing again. We've just started the chapter after Bal-Hamatun and just finished dealing with the riot.

My character is a halfling rogue/thief acrobat who was left at the Lantern Street Orphanage. I was wondering about how halflings are treated and what they're up to around the city. Our DM and I have talked about it a little, but intergroup tension leads to bad communication lines.

Thief-acrobat is a 5 level PrC, so once we hit 12th level I plan on taking level in Whisperknife, from Races of the Wild. A whisperknife is a halfling avenger type who will take out people who mistreat other halflings. To make it feasible for the story is why I was curious about the state of halflings and other small folk.

Thanks in advance!

So I read that some DMs are thinking about leveling up the Jade Ravens and having players use them as PCs play through Prophry House Horror, since it's a cool adventure.

There are five players in my group, so I was going to use the Ravens and Tyralandi, or maybe another PC created by a player. I haven't quite decided yet.

So I was in the middle of leveling up the Ravens when I started wondering what kind of career path or PrC the sages at Dungeon had for them. I figured Liamae would be a Mystic Theurge and Tolin would keep progressing as a Fighter. Kaskus and Zan I wasn't too sure about. Any thoughts?

Last night, the clever druid of the party decided that in order to recruit dino's in the aid of Farshore's defense, he should awaken the dominant male (I don't know anything about dino pyschology, so I've been treating the herbivores like big cows and the carnivores like big cats) of the herd and ask him to recruit other dinos to the cause as the herd makes its way to Tanaroa.

The ankylosaurus, now named Herman, has an Intelligence of 9 and Charisma of 13. He's in charge of three other female ankylosaurus and is bound to run into more herd of herbivores. From what I know of herd mentality, if Herman was to run into another group of ankylosaurus he would probably take it over and bring those other dino's with him.

I don't know how this should play out. Should I roll randomly on the encounter table to see if they make it there and if they run into other dinos? How should I resolve the 'really really smart cow' issue when dealing with other dinos? I want to reward ingenious solutions but I don't want to make this part of the module a cake walk.

Spoilage, just so's you know.

I know that druids are one of the best classes to have on hand for this AP becuase it's set in the untamed jungle of the Isle of Dread, but I was curious as to how other DMs have handled having one around.

The PC is a LN halfling druid who is a cannibal from the Amedio Jungle who's a big believer in the 'laws of nature'. That's not a big deal, really, and just adds to the roleplaying. However, I've noticed that several of the encounters that the party comes across in HTBM and TOD are just hungary or territorial animals that the party stumbles upon. A druid, IMHO, wouldn't just kill them outright and the player has been playing the druid that way as well.

When the hungary TRex came charging out of the jungle, the druid rolled so well on his wild empathy and what not that the TRex wound up leaving the party alone. This happened again with the Nest Mother of the terror birds and one of the random terror bird encounters. I gave the party full XP becuase they did handle the encounter well and did 'defeat' the monster, albeit without any bloodshed which I thought was apropriate for a team of druids. I haven't read all of TOD yet but I know the party fights several of the legendary monsters on the island. How have other DMs handled druids in those encounters? Did they end up killing the animals anyway? Would that make them lose their druid-ness or would that be lost by repeated slaughtering of animals?

My brother and I joined a new campaign last night. I was wondering if the wonderful users of this board could help us in making a two bard team effective?

The concept is that they are twin brother and sister descended from an elven trunamer (a spellcaster that discovers the true name of things, from Tome of Magic) and a human bard with some fey connections. Our parents loved each other very much, but their father's need to research and learn more about Truespeak was almost anathema to their restless mother. Once they were older, she would take them with her on her wanderings and taught them legends, songs, and how to play they're instruments. The brother, Kobol, would con women out of their money and whenever he got caught, be it by an angry husband or the authorities, Thracia would talk them out of killing her brother.

They're both level two half elf bards. Kobol wants to focus more on becoming an archer, and eventually, some kind of bandit king. I was thinking he could multi class into a ranger for the free feats. What prestige classes would be the best for an archer? Maybe a Darkwood Stalker (complete warrior) with some tweaks? His feat is Weapon Finesse.

Thracia, my character, will be more of a spell caster. She already has Spell Focus (enchantment) and I was thinking about multiclassing into a warlock to become an eldritch theurge (complete mage) later on. Would a specialist wizard be a better choice? Her Intelligence is high but not as high as her Charisma. I'm not sure if a sorceror can specialize the way a wizard can, or else I would do that. I was also thinking about just sticking to a straight bard to become a seeker of the song (complete arcane) or taking cleric levels to become a heartwarder (faiths and pantheons). Obviously, I don't know where to take the character. I don't want to stray to far from the original concept of a fast talking bard.

Thanks in advance. You all are the best!

I’m a newbie DM, so maybe some more experienced DM’s/players can help me out here I’ll make you the most delicious cookies in all of creation.

I’ve played DnD since I was about 16 years old and always with my father’s group. They’re not very munchie, preferring to make characters that are interesting and have depth instead of one that can take on an army by itself at low levels. We’ve always emphasized teamwork and group harmony, all that hippy crap that doesn’t happen in the real world so much. I then meet a new group and start to play with them, where it’s a huge group of players (8, on average, and sometimes as many as 15) so getting any attention from the DM is always a battle. Granted, they usually play WOD but I don’t think that’s an excuse. I started STAP in January and invited two players from the other group to join.

Now I have a problem. The guy, let’s call him Jimmy, is an uber munchkin. He’s playing a whisper gnome (on a side note, does anyone know if Races of Stone has official errata? I haven’t been able to find any. The whisper gnome has no lvl adjustment and should, imo) rogue that can stand alone as a tank, pretty much. I let him role up his character at home and according to the way we role for stats (4d6, reroll one’s, add the three highest rolls and a roll of all 6’s or 1’s is a 20) he says that he rolled TWO 20’s. That’s a 1 in 1300 chance. Now he’s got a 22 dex, 22 intelligence and nothing under a 15. I was okay with that, I figured that it would balance out in the end. It hasn’t. Now, at 5th level, he’s able to bust into a room and take out most things before the party even shows up.

I don’t know what to do. My first thought is to kill him when raising him isn’t an option. But, then my conscience kicks in and I start thinking about how it’s not me vs. the player. I am just a facilitator who tells them what happens when they do things. Then again, it’s making all the other players upset (my original group) which makes me want to smack him down even more. The god’s have enforced a level adjustment by killing him, so how do I control the rest of his outrageous stats and abilities?

So I ordered a back issue of Dungeon #140 ten days ago, on the 13th, and it hasn't arrived yet and I was planning on running "The Bullywug Gambit" for the STAP on Sunday. I was wondering, since I already bought it and would be willing to buy a PDF copy should one be availiable, if anyone could point me in the right direction? Would that still be license infringement if I were to download it?

Granted, the mail for today hasnt come yet so there is still hope. It would just really suck to have to cancel Sunday's session until the module gets here.

Like I said, any help would be very appreciated and I'll make you cookies.

In my both of my groups, players have often asked to see more D&D articles on fairies other than what's in the MM. Politics of the courts, associations of the courts in the mortal realms, stuff like that.

I do like that fey bloodlines have become a more prominent addition in 3.5, and I've also seen a prestige class or two. But, Dragon/Dungeon.

Thoughts?
