What is the issue with Jordan Peterson? His twelve rules for life are kinda self-evident.

Likewise, light, frivolous, or outright false accusations of those are also offensive, and arguably harmful, as they diminish real cases.

A big part of the problem, I think, is that some people came out swinging against Erik Mona with some pretty unkind insinuations--about him, about the freelancer, and about everyone who supported the change. And if someone comes in telling us that we're stupid, fragile, SJWs, snowflakes, or any of the other phrases that we hear so often from a certain other crowd, we're really not going to be inclined to assume good faith.

Some posters assumed the worst of the freelancer, Owen, and Erik Mona. It led us to assume the worst of those posters. A lot of us did make an effort to extend good faith to those who were extending it to us. I may disagree on some issues with Oppsylum and Nerve Eater, but I had no issue talking to them respectfully about these issues, because they did some due diligence in being respectful to us.

But someone who comes out the gate insulting me and implying I'm an idiot who doesn't understand that obviously Paizo isn't literally advocating the return of slavery, without first asking us what we're actually concerned about to make sure he has it right? And then refuses to back down? Who shows zero empathy towards the freelancers' discomfort?

Yeah, I'm kind of going to assume he's a racist troll. Or just a normal troll who's really obsessed with this slavery issue for some reason.

And I might spam him with "sheep shalm" a lot, but it's only because "sheep shalm" is the best joke I've ever told literally ever and I would rather focus on my swan song than someone who thinks he can sue Paizo for child neglect or whatever's going on over there.

It goes both ways, people have assigned me some heinous point of views based on the worst possible, and then some, interpretation of my words. I admit that sometimes my reaction has been "somewhat" inflammatory.

Paizo will tell you to buy your books however is best for you. Yeah they'd prefer you subscribe, but they understand that's not always an option. They still make money off the books that Amazon sells, unless you think Amazon gets those by magic.

Paizo has also stated that they depend on their subscription model to predict print volume and cash flows. Also, whatever commission Amazon takes for selling books from Paizo is the lost revenue I was talking about.

Or to put the issue I was exposing in simpler terms, Paizo would prefer you would buy directly from them, but, arguably, is not giving enough incentives to do so.

Maybe my issues only applies to South America or Peru deliveries, but the shipping cost differences (no free shipping to here) justify buying the PDFs and books apart rather than subscribing. Plus I can track through Amazon, but not through Paizo.

Yes, people probably should care more about other people than they do. The issues is, exactly, that they don't and buying from Amazon is way cheaper than buying from Paizo. That is lost revenue for Paizo.

One thing is to include content warnings and making a setting in which everyone can be represented, other, very different, is deliberately removing things for the setting as to avoid offending someone. The former one is good, the latter one almost inevitably leads to to a never ending downward spiral.

Are you implying that the average consumer cares more about the salary of the delivery man than cheap prices? Because it is them that determine which business practices are successful.

Right now, I could buy the Absalom and Monsters of Myth through Amazon and save around 60 dollars in shipping to Peru. So, yes, Paizo shipping is excessive, it barely compensates the free pdf which not really that big of a bonus since AoN is a better tool for rule searching.

Personally, I think the world, COVID and COVID measures aside, was doing better than ever in general terms. It is just that the media has tendency to acentuate the negative. "COVID deaths acheive new record low" doesn't grab as many eyes as "Newly discovered COVID variant from Tangamandapio could render vaccine ineffective!".

Do you think transphobic and racist comments are just differing opinions, Leon? That's very interesting. See, the way I see them, they are a part of efforts by some posters to maintain this as a space they control, a space minority posters must either toe the line in, force themselves to be invisible in, or leave. It wasn't long ago that trans people largely stayed silent on these forums for fear of being mocked or othered or harassed or threatened, as has, in fact, happened a few times over the last few weeks. I'm sure you wouldn't prefer a return to those days.

Main issue is that people here seem to have have different definition of what racism or transphobia is.

Personally, I think it would be better if Paizo had incremental degrading suspension system, depending on the transgressions you get a multiple hours to days of suspension that increases which each repeated offense getting a longer suspension, but said increase decays naturally overtime without further violations. Currently, someone might even be inclined to reply to a post just to force the mods hand. However, I don't think Paizo has the infrastructure to implement such measures.

More importantly, it is important that people know when and why their post are deleted at the very least so they can know how much is to much and appropriately correct their behavior. I made a similar request over a year a go.

Finally, Paizo needs to update their community guidelines. It is completely possible for forum newbies to engage in inappropriate behavior because they were unaware of the addendum to the guidelines in the Off-Topic subforum.

I’m the opposite, you’ve (everyone) has my respect until they don’t. Respect is given then kept by being earned.

Respect is valuable. Common Courtesy is what I freely give. I am kind to everyone until they lose that.

People often say Respect when they mean Courtesy. Maybe not you, but there is a subtle and vast difference between the 2 words for me.

Respect:
a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

Courtesy:
the showing of politeness in one's attitude and behavior toward others.

I do not personally admire anyone until they have shown me they are worthy of my admiration. I can be polite to anyone and everyone and it costs me nothing.

Respect can also means:

"due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others"

Which is the definition, I believe, gets conflated with "courtesy".

Hi James,

When it's said that Sorshen "seduced and betrayed all of her fellow runelords", is that LITERALLY all of them, throughout all of Thassilon's history? Or just the final ones? Or just at least one of each school/sin?

I'm asking because I'm rather interested in what Alaznist's sexual/romantic orientation was, and if she ever had any partners, affairs, or romantic friendships. So I was curious to know if she and Sorshen ever had any such attachments.

She seduced some of them, betrayed others, and seduced and betrayed a few others over the course of the thousands of years.

Alaznist, in my mind, didn't have much of an interest in romance at all, and so I mostly avoided that topic. The way her sin, wrath, interfaces with romance and sexuality means that an exploration of her preferences in print would be impossible to publish information on if we wanted to stay true to her chaotic evil nature, since that sort of content isn't appropriate for publication in a Paizo Pathfinder product. Alaznist is the most violent and sadistic and cruel of all 7 runelords. That's wrath for ya.

Alaznist and Sorshen never had friendly relations. But Sorshen certainly betrays Alaznist, most notably in her role in Return of the Runelords in how she...

So, you could say she is bi-furious?

Incorrect argument about first name not being doxxing though. Any identifiable information is in fact doxxing. It is not limited to a specific name. Especially in instances when attempting to cause harm. Which intimidation legally is extremely harmful.

The personal definition of a first name isn't doxxing does not hold up in a court of law especially considering I had the users full name, state they lived in and multiple social media account names in under 10 minutes just by having his first name.

Harassment:
noun
aggressive pressure or intimidation.

Legal Defintion:
Go to Clickified.
harassment
(either harris-meant or huh-rass-meant) n. the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands

Dox:
verbINFORMAL
gerund or present participle: doxxing
search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the internet, typically with malicious intent.

So, with those definitions, by default, doxxing is harassment. It is a form of intimidation, not informative in the slightest.

I was not arguing that it was not doxxing. I was arguing that what is generally understood by doxxing is associated with calls to action and vigilantism. It is a loaded term and it is worth clarifying that it was just first name rather than full info and a call to action. Just look at the examples of doxxing in Wikipedia.

So, let me get this straight. Previously, I've been told that calling a call to action that lacks any sort of due process a "witch trial" or "lynch mob", even though technically correct, is wrong, because the long past history of harm associated with said terms.

However, calling that stupid, childish and reckless power play a "doxxing", even though it is a word loaded with a history of harming innocents, disproportionate retribution and internet vigilantism and implies a call to action, because it is technically correct.

I am starting to think that certain people in this forum would rather win instead of having a honest discussion.

I'd like to remind certain posters in this thread that "reverse racism"does not exist in any way shape or form, and there is no systemic oppression of white people in America (or most places in the world, really).

Diego's story also really makes me question what Lisa is even still doing at the company. Does she collect a paycheck as CEO? It's disheartening to see such mismanagement, and though I wish the best for Jim and Mike, I do wish other people could have at least been *considered* for the position.

Exactly. Prejudice or Discrimination can be specific, but Racism/Sexism/etc are historical, structural and systemic. That is what makes them -isms.

No, but it requires a college course in Newspeak and Doublethink to make that artificial distinction. The whole racism = power + prejudice is made to excuse racism against white people by obscuring language.

Using the first name is still very threatening, and carries the implied threat of releasing the full name.

People have been successfully doxxed via just a first name before as well.

Again stupid, childish, and bad; but, to give an extreme example, is like conflating accidental manslaughter with an assassination or murder 3.

There is world of difference between "I wouldn't be so cocky, Jhon" and "I wouldn't be so cocky, Jhon Doe from 123 Evergreen st. Springfield CA 12345, phone number 999 888 7777, and email address jdoe@gmail.com. It would be shame if someone contacted your employer at management@abcde.com. Actions have consequences!".

Both would be breaches of privacy, the latter would be closer to what most people associate with doxxing. Both would bad, the latter would be worse.

It was definitely doxxing. Jeff admitted in the thread he did it to 'show he was serious' about the issue. Read: Intimidation Check but rolled a 1.

As for the lack of communication I see it as one of 2 things, neither of them great.

Either their legal told them to stop engaging or they are deciding on their own that to not engage is a good idea.

I know we weren't given a timeline for when a follow up would happen, but the radio silence really speaks volumes. I stopped posting in here constantly for the same reasons KC lists. I am tired of arguing, but that doesn't mean I am not still watching. The union is a good move in the right direction, but that isn't reflective of Paizo or their Leadership. The workers had the votes lined up, there was no way to stop the Union from happening, just delay and raise angst.

Accepting the inevitable is not progress.

Do better Paizo.

It is worth noting that he "only" call the person by their first name. While a childish power move, it lacks the "call to action" part generally implied with the word.

What’s “rude and vulgar” about wanting more diversity in leadership?

The racist implication that people who share their skin tone form a sort of monolithic gestalt collective for starters. Representation is cool, but representation for representation'sake is harmful.

Do you think the persons were hired because their impressive CVs or because Lisa Stevens, like Robin D'Angelo, feels uneasy around black people?

Man am I tired of this particular refrain.

Wanting more diverse people in positions of power is not representation GONE MAD. It's basic math comprehension revealing worrying hiring trends and underlying biases within the industry that need to be addressed. The only way to address them is through ACTION.

Basic statistic comprehension will tell you that is perfectly plausible to have 5 randomly selected individuals in majority white country be white before taking into account any regional or cultural variance that could skew chances even farther.

To give you an example, if you go to an Evo tournament you are likely to find that more than 90% of attendants and competitor are black and/or asian. Does this means that there is a systematic antisemitic, anti-white or anti-latino discrimination problem or some cultural quirk?
