Personally, I prefer Linux, as it allows me to do a lot of cool stuff, and understand how everything works. If you need help with it, there are plenty of resources available, the Ubuntu Forums being one of the better ones.
Anyway, use what you like, and have fun :)

I highly recommend starting with the 9th Edition Core Set. It has two fairly balanced decks, and a really good tutorial to help refresh you on the finer points of the rules. It also has an activation code for Magic Online, which would otherwise cost $10.
If you can, try to purchase it from a local game store. You're on your own for that, but it's really good to find a place where you can play with other people in your area. If not, there should be plenty of places to pick it up online. But really, try to find a local store first. =D
For some more in-depth discussion, head over to Magic's own website, where they have a column called Magic Academy. This should help with a few other aspects of the game.
Once you get your hand in a few games, the pre-release for the next expansion set, Planar Chaos, is coming up next week. Pre-releases are a fun, low-stress way to enter the tourney scene, and will really help launch your playing level.
Read through some of the articles on the Magic website, and places like Star City Games offer respected 3rd party coverage of the game.
Hope this helps!
Short Answer: So far, none yet. (Paizo just announced their new product releases until April or so, and no AoW...)
Long Answer: AoW Hardcover

1) Your wife-to-be must've seen through the rotting flesh to the heart of gold underneath.
2) I haven't heard of a groom's cake, though it sounds like a cool idea.
3) Congratulations!!!! =D
WOW.
I just wanted to say that those tips could be applied to nearly any gaming section. Well, some of them may only be needed for particularly interesting encounters (or if you have a lot of time). But wow. That's preposterous.

Wow, sweetness.
If you can, I suggest that the files aren't .doc or .xls. (or at least have the option to view them in browser, or to download them for later)
Other than that, that's awesome.
I can't recall seeing any in the recent past, though my memory on adventures has been shaky. You could try incorporating the Githyanki Invasion from Dungeon #100. That should give you some ideas.
Hm. That's interesting. With the current initiative system, I picture the first person in order as sprinting ahead to complete his/her action first, followed by those slower. As previously stated, they gain the advantage of moving while everyone else is still flat footed, and after the first round, may act with a decent amount of information.
I'm not sure if the extra info that higher initiative characters receive is worth the extra time/mental shift though... (Though it's still a cool idea)
I fiddled around with the NWN toolset a bit (nothing fancy at all, mind you), and I've been meaning to play around with the NWN2 toolset too. I'm pretty busy with classes right now, but I'd be down for making an AoW mod. I just need time to read up on the scripting engine ... =/
I'm nearly certain that of the many tweaks, changing the adventures to suit 6 players was not one of them. (I'm pretty sure there was another adventure added, as well as handouts and some slight changes to the adventures to make things flow better).
I highly recommend the hardcover.
Hope that helps!
I think having a war based AP would be amazing. Something reminiscent of LotR's grand battles would be sweet.
I'm thinking something with a military structure, and the PCs eventually leading the climactic charge would have grandeur written all over it.

Now my interest is piqued too ...

I am an avid video/computer gamer, so I didn't read anything new in the article. However, I do appreciate the First Watch section a great deal. I really like being able to see and read about things I may not otherwise know about.
My problem with the two-page spread on FFXII is that it's all information that can be gathered on a place like 1up.com. I think that having a product or two 'showcased' each month could be intersting. In this case, however, the game is about as high profile as is possible, and has almost too much coverage already.
We'll see how things shape up over the coming months (with different products).

the Fenslerfilm versions of the 80s GIJOE "Knowing is half the battle" PSAs they used to run after the main feature are friggin hilarious!
You can see these at http://www.ebaumsworld.com/gijoe.html
They're really random, but if you like and understand, "internet humor" (in the vein of the Chuck Norris jokes), you should love these. I've known about these for years, and still get a kick out of them.
Very well deserved!

I must say, the cover was quite impressive. My sister was the one that got the mail, and she was pretty tripped out.
Oh dear. This ... could get interesting.

Hellchain Weaver.
Oh dang. I got creeped out just from reading it. (I finally got time to read it last night. It was dark and kinda rainy outside, alright?)
My players have been acting like they can handle anything I throw at them. We'll see how long that lasts.

If you guys've ever seen the G.I. Joe videos (try ebaumsworld.com), there's one with some kids Ice Skating (the "Do you know my dad" clip). At the end, this guy randomly says, "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

that's really, really funny.
Although my parents don't have any interest in playing D&D themselves, they don't have any qualms with me playing. Of course, I don't DM an M rated game (it's generally family-friendly), but most people I know just tell me I'm a geek rather than launching a crusade.

I suppose one good thing about DnD not being too mainstream is that most people wouldn't bother to steal books.
Lilith wrote: I've been blessed with the ability to do different voices, accents and mannerisms when I DM. haha. I do this too. I hope my players appreciate it. I don't usually think up what voice I'm going to use until about 5 seconds before I introduce the NPC. I slowly build up a personality from that voice (and the description in the adventure) to try to make him memorable.

Haven't started yet, as we're in the middle of another campaign. We're going to do Shackeled CityC after, then hopefully AoW. (yeah. we're waaay behind on the APs...)

I just thought about looking up these books (I was skimming the 30th D&D Anniversary Dragon, and came upon the Encyclopedia. I recalled flipping through them in bookstores when I was really young, but didn't play D&D then). Although I'm bummed that #2 is missing, at least you've notified Wizards. Thanks for supplying these!
