Chad Newman arrived at the airport in his chariot to pick up myself, Hillary, and Landon. That kicked off an excellent first day- sorting shirts for GMs, checking into the Westin for myself, James Anderson, Michael, and Adam (quite the Northen California contingent!) l, running a slot of 8-23 to iron out some kinks at Scotty's before committing to it this weekend, stepping into the VC dinner for Wendy-Ann and John, and finally getting some Starfinder quests in thanks to Stephen from NYC. Time for some rest!!
That's great! We have a Bay Area Pathfinder group that JohnF is one of the Venture-Captains of. Around the middle of our About page you'll also find our names linked to our email addresses if that's easier. Looking forward to some more ACG in the Bay!
Yep, in the Bay Area we primarily use Warhorn to organize signups and events (in particular the RSS feeds for stores makes it easy for some people to know when new events show up) and also use Meetup to reach that audience. The people I've asked haven't found us through the Events page, but I definitely went from Paizo -> PFS years ago, so a better Events page likely would've made it easier to find nearby games and drop by.
This program is fantastic! Thanks so much for all the hard work on this, we have a lot of venues in our area that will certainly appreciate it. If anyone has time to put together a poster/flyer template, please share with the rest of us! Venues in our area should have something hung up to show off their support for the benefit to be available, but I'm interested to hear if anyone else has other ideas for promotion.
Here's the current signup list: 1. Kivuli Greyfeather - Level 3 Unchained Rogue

So excited to have a full slate! We're starting on Wednesday, October 12th, but if I can get everyone to check in with an intro post starting Sunday, October 9th up to the 12th that'd be great! Here's the suggested content: Intro Post (after October 9th) Character Name
Any pre-scenario purchases Any "big" purchases your character has made or would like to make in his/her career. These are along the lines of mercantile purchases, such as a house, shop, mode of transport, etc. This section is more for flavor than any "real" reason :) Day Job roll (if any)
I was a Tier 5 volunteer and ran two games of the RPG (Wounded Wisp and Twisted Circle, both of which I've run before which was nice) and GMed the first slot of the ACG as well as the ACG Special. Being my first Gen Con, I wish I'd ignored the advice, and signed up for more slots to get in more Pathfinder! The emails sent out ahead of time were quite helpful, and I knew what to expect from the RPG side of things. I did convince a friend to try out PFS Sunday morning, and we were able to get a ticket for #8-01 the night before and get seated together which was awesome. He had a great experience (I did as well!) and throughout the weekend I was impressed by how friendly and supportive everyone was. The ACG is not yet the well-oiled machine that the RPG side is, and that showed. The first slot was a bit chaotic, as I made a few trips up to HQ with many large print requests. I would be very interested in a "Slot 0" that took place on Wednesday which allowed volunteers to sign up for various pre-convention setup tasks. Having more structure around setup beforehand as well as mailing out ACG-specific instructions would significantly reduce confusion and allow GMs to GM instead of muster or organize. Some potential checkboxes for next year:
I'd also be interested in some pre-convention planning events. It'd be awesome to get all ACG volunteers together in a Google Hangout to walk through some of the above, help walk through expected setup requirements, answer questions, and get the group to put names to faces ahead of time. A timezone-friendly group chat might be tough to coordinate ahead of time, but facilitating the conversation as soon as possible will help the convention go more smoothly. During the convention, it was occasionally difficult to find people, get questions answered, or hear about time changes for events. A few volunteers gave me different times to show up before the ACG Special to help setup, and having a way for head volunteers or organizers to reach people (Facebook Messenger group, Slack team for Gen Con volunteers, iMessage thread, etc.) would have facilitated conversations and better planning. I also didn't know about the GM meeting on Sunday, but I may have missed it in the emails that were sent out. Putting that on the schedule (maybe as a "Slot -1") would help me remember that I could attend to share thoughts in person and see everyone one last time before heading out. Lastly, I'd like to emphasize how amazing the convention was. I loved meeting Pathfinders from all over the globe and get in so much gaming- can't wait for next year!
Greetings folks, We've just scheduled September's Game Day for San Francisco, and we have our first table ready for players to signup! If anyone else would like to run something please let me know either here or on the Facebook event. Signups are available on our Warhorn page. Please reach out if you have any questions! Cheers,
Answer 1A (Online Play): BigNorseWolf is right on the money, there's also a Chat server where you can ask all kinds of questions about online play. It's a really fun way to play Pathfinder- I highly recommend it! Answer 1B (Starting Out): If you already have a local store with Pathfinder, then you've got a great opportunity to meet new friends and learn the game! I was pretty intimidated when I first started out, so I sent an email to the organizer and made sure I got scheduled with a group who was happy to introduce me to the game. (In fact- he ran a great starter scenario for me to learn!) Answer 2 (Bloodragers and making legal characters): Here's a bloodrager guide, but seems like your question is more "how do I make a legal PFS character?" If so, then I lean on Hero Lab which has a checkbox for PFS Legal which makes things easy. I also own (and read!) the rule books, so this should just be a helper, not a replacement for the rules. Answer 3: The Pathfinder Reference Document or PRD is amazing, and has all the main rulebooks inside it. The Archives of Nethys is a fan-run website which catalogs most of the other rules/options/flavor that are more specific to the world of Golarion and the general campaign which PFS is part of. Both are good to read through and help you decide which character to make next!
Dropped a few comments in the doc! A few notes: Really loved the flavor you put into the Cycle Thrall- I think that's such an interesting take on a cleric that uses the elements to break out of the life/death cycle. Also a huge fan of the favored keeper- a holy person with a familiar that shares the connection to their deity is awesome! And the martyr has a slim chance of being the highlight of a campaign- which is rad. It's exciting to see an open playtest doc!
Howdy there! I'm running #7-22: Bid for Alabastrine during the second session of PbP Game Day 5. Play will begin on October 12th, 2016! This scenario is awesome and and roleplay-heavy, with lots of opportunity to take advantage of the PbP medium. In addition, the outcome will have huge ramifications for the future of the Pathfinder Society! Looking forward to running- please let me know if you have questions ahead of time. Quote:
Had an amazing game, finally had a chance to play The Confirmation. Three brand new players gave us all a chance to look at the rules again, and the new portable Core Rulebook was very handy. I didn't realize how much I just keep Hero Lab on my tablet (time to bump the "split screen" feature request!) and may not take the time to correct my hunches for flow's sake. Our GM was a VC named Michael I believe, but the jet lag may have caught up with me since I don't recall where he was from! Totally played up the excellent NPC in the scenario, and it was a blast!
Worked the ACG area as a roving GM. Didn't get a chance to play a round, but it was a good morning of organization and setup! Kevin Hanley is a master of organizing the ACG, and I'm very glad to have met him! Thanks to Bob + Jon Cary for their printing skills, and if you haven't seen Bobby Harring's epic kilt- you must do so!
Super pumped for my first Gen Con! I landed at around midnight, and it was a smooth flight from San Francisco. Heeding advice from the boards, I went straight for the convention center. The Will Call line wasn't out the door, but it was surprisingly long! I was glad it moved quickly, took around 30 minutes to have everything setup. I'm boldly waiting for some grub at Steak N' Shake. It looks pretty epic- going to scarf down some grub then get checked into the Marriot and hit the hay. Got some early morning GM checkin and ACG to play!

It's my first Gen Con, so I'm following the advice and going with a Tier 4 GM schedule. I'm hoping to squeeze in a few play sessions with generic tickets depending on how I feel tomorrow and Sunday. Really excited to see everyone!

These are awesome!! I put together some handouts which have goofy scenes + a reminder about the boon your badges represent. They are also available on the mighty pfsprep. |
