Through the information gleaned from the old maps at the Sothis Exhibitionary and the Charcoal Rubbings, you were able to ascertain this location for the Pyramid of Ascension and its Valley.

To the Pyramid

Please do not click on the Red section around the Pyramids. Thanks guys.

Session 4

Arodus 1 (Late Night), 4708 AR

Resting at the Grand Temple of Sarenrae in central Sothis, our heroes quickly dropped into an exhausted slumber. Their wounds tended, their bellies filled, they knew the first few moments of peace since they reached the Land of the Pharaohs.

Arodus 2, 4708 AR

Waking early due to the Temple rising with the dawn to give praise to the Dawnflower, the heroes took their meal while discussing what to do. During their discussion a priestess arrived bearing a message that had been delivered.

Written in Elven and addressed to Allerund Lastri the message said only this: The Black Reliquary, Sapa the Crook Bearer
Beneath this lay a stylized arrow rune

Immediately suspicious, and relatively certain that the Black Reliquary must be the Crook Bearer's private collection, the group decided to use the hours of daylight to investigate the Sothis Exhibitionary instead. Arriving shortly after the museum opened at noon, the party made quick study of the exhibits.
Obasi, in the midst of his searching for the mask came across an old map that just might be the key to finding the location of the pyramid of the Four Pharaohs! Allerund and Olen ran into Neferet/Lonicera while she was perusing another exhibit. Incensed that they had not met with her as yet to share the documents they purchased with her help, she confronted them with harsh words. Realizing though, that likely she was being subjected to well placed suspicion, she decided to tell them the truth, if they would listen. To prove it, she showed them the Replica Mask here at the Exhibitionary, mentioning that it was not genuine. Obasi was called over to make a quick study of it and also determined it a fake, however well made and valuable.

Realizing the need to speak in private, the group agreed to meet with Lonicera in an hour at the Ziggurat of Nethys in central Sothis. Once she had left, Allerund was called over to look at the map Obasi had found. Using clues from the charcoal rubbings, the map made an interesting sense. It took some thinking, but eventually revealed what they believe to be the way to the Valley of the Pyramid of Ascension.

Meeting Lonicera at the Ziggurat, she ushered them into a room that she had lent from the clergy for study. In privacy, she told them of her role with Julistar expedition. Imploring them to share information with her regardless of the danger, she found herself subject to the suspicion of the group. Allerund and the others refused to let her see the documents because of her affiliation. They did let her know small bits of information, but nothing that would be of any use to Julistar should she return to him with it.

She, in contrast, tried to earn the trust of the heroes. She told them of where Julistar and the Expeditionary is staying, alarming and unsettling Obasi most especially. The Expeditionary taking shelter with the corrupt magistrate Khelden did not sit well with the normally well-balanced Sorcerer.

After telling Lonicera to keep out of the way and hidden, lest Julistar realize that she had betrayed secrets to the enemy, the party left to do reconnaissance at the estate of the Crook Bearer. Arriving outside of his large oasis-estate, just outside of Sothis, in the early afternoon, they decided to take a 'close' look.

Using Invisibility magics, Olen scaled the wall of the estate and began to study the Black Reliquary. Finding the doors too well guarded to try unlocking with his picks or magic, he used instead his Cayden granted ability to step through dimensions. He leapt through the basalt walls directly onto a Spectral Scorpion trap. His eyes going wide, the trap thankfully did not strike true and faded unceremoniously. Blinking in the gloom and noting the trailing eddies of magical energy in various parts of the room, Olen proceeded cautiously. Using a Message spell to stay in contact, Olen was on the verge of turning back until the others could join him when he spotted the mask!

Seeing that it lay beyond only one trap as he saw it, it was too tempting a target for him to wait. Moving to the edges of the swirling magic of the abjuration, Olen looked for a way to perhaps bypass or negate the trap. Seeing the method, he attempted to bypass it. Just then a large razor-toothed gecko leapt upon his shoulder, Olen slipped, triggering the trap. Startled, the gecko fled up the stone walls as the Spectral scorpion materialized and struck. Unlike the first, this one struck true, piercing Olen in the thigh and pumping in its magical venom.

His limbs turning as responsive as stone, Olen tried to stagger away or heal himself, but he body betrayed him, becoming locked in place. His lifeblood continued to pump freely from the thigh wound given by the scorpion...something vital must have been pierced. And yet, he could not move...only watch himself slowly die from exsanguination.

Contact through the message spell having been lost, the rest of the party quickly formed a plan. With invisibility magics cast all around, they quickly ascended the wall. All save Obasi, who made it to the top, only to awkwardly fall back to the ground outside. Groping around for help, Allerund gave him a hand in ascending the wall. Using a summoned
Giant Bombardier Beetle acting as though an interloper from the outer desert as a distraction, they tried to gain access to the Reliquary.

Amyrta tried her crowbar, but the thick iron doors and strong lock held. Obasi moved in and used acid on the lock in an attempt to weaken it. Slowly melting the lock began to quickly take too much time as the beetle then was butchered by the guards. Stepping behind one of the nearby Date-palms, Obasi summoned another before the guards could react upon the strange effect of a summoned creature being dismissed. More puzzled than anything by a Blinking Beetle, for so it appeared, the guards rushed it. With a final creak the door finally was pried open, Olen standing woozily in a pool of blood, the many layers of abjurative magics making his position clear.

Acting with alacrity, the group used another of Obasi's summoned animals, this time two celestial greyhounds to probe for traps. Two more of the Scorpions were triggered but failed to harm the dogs. Quickly then giving a potion to the nearly dead Olen and grabbing the mask from the wall, our heroes made a quick escape using the dogs as a distraction. All of this would have worked so much better but for the clumsy sorcerer falling off the wall again. With much in the way of chuckling from the others, he was helped over the wall, and they were away into the city. This time with the mask and knowledge of the map that should lead them to the Pyramid of Ascension. For once, it seemed that they might actually be ahead of Julistar and his cronies!

I think you touched on the most important parts Donovan Vig.

I personally prefer players to play what they want. I don't usually go with the whole 'standard party make-up'. I tailor things a bit (or a lot, if necessary).

Ask Pygon though. I made a fighter, so do whatever floats your boat should be cool.

Btw, my fighter has a Heavy Repeater as well, but its more of a fire and forget weapon than anything else.

Now that is customer service!

Cosmo, take notes!

Spoiler:
Just kidding Cosmo...you know we love you.

You came awfully close to having an age of 'absolute zero' If it was only -273.15

When I first spotted it I thought you meant that all motion had stopped, making you effectively immortal. And unmoving...right.

Don't trust Cosmo...he is evil.

Sorry to say that I don't recognize it. It does sound familiar though.

I'm sure there is someone on the boards here that will know. Perhaps even some of the Paizo Staffers.

Well...my way too detailed character for LB1 is finished and should be in Pygon's email at this point. Wakeful nights are annoying...but productive apparently.

What are the rest of you going to play in that adventure?

Lets give Daigle and Pygon some time to weigh in as well.

First, let me also mention this...

For LB1 (DM Pygon), My character is going to be...

Geddoe Hydarion (Male Human Fighter 5, War-college trained)

Geddoe

David, there are a few things that definitely need to be addressed though. We only get to play once a week, Saturday mornings, as you know. One thing we need to know is this, do you have any idea why you disconnect so much?

That would be very disruptive, especially if it happened in combat or in a social situation with consequences. Try and do everything you can to look into/fix that problem, okay?

Might be a good idea to start posting character ideas. Sorry folks...I'm the fighter for this one!

I'm not sure you really do...await such a thing...

Spoiler:
Carol of the bells eh? You know that I am going to remember this right?

I appear to have killed the thread...at least until Yoda8MyHead gets here and praises my little song.

Cavorts evilly

This specifically came to mind when thinking of Laori Vaus...and the interesting image of 'cute evil'. Leave it to Richard Pett.

Sung to 'God rest ye merry Gentlemen'

First, I didn't try to compose this, it just popped into my head. It actually took me a little while to realize what song it was I had set it to. I am seriously disturbed. Good thing my wife likes me that way.

Your blood and tears
don't fret my dears
Your pain is for our gain!

Reveal your sins
and flay the skins
Your life we take away!

Your bones we crack
The rod will smack
Your teeth we break away!

For all our sendings are
sufferin' and pain
sufferin' and pain
All our sendings are
sufferin' and pain...

Rip out the nail
the sweat in pails
until your roastings done!

Points pierce the flesh
now eat it fresh
Feast on you just for fun!

We let the pain
drive us insane
until it becomes joy!

Its time to play
Don't scream today
Now that your just my toy!

For all our sendings are
sufferin' and pain
sufferin' and pain
All our sendings are
sufferin' and pain.....

Cheers folks! Horray for evil!

Do not trust these! My wife bought a set of Pewter dice years ago from our FLGS! She refuses to roll anything else. Her luck has increased to such a frightening degree that I despair in my games sometimes.

As for why I don't tell her not to use those dice...well...do you really have to ask?

They are a really good product though. Very sturdy, you could certainly kill someone with a sling and one of these dice.

Session 3, Part 4

After Daile sped off into the darkness, Allerund began picking his way slowly towards the Warehouse, healing himself with potions in the process. He rounded the date palms and tents quickly enough to see the Elemental streaking towards the open doors of the warehouse, unbeknownst to him, right behind the sprinting Obasi. Thinking the Elemental following him, Obasi charged into the warehouse, dodging past the mercenaries whose eyes went wide at the approaching fire elemental. The elemental surged into the warehouse before any of the mercenaries could react, instantly beginning to set the oilcloths and dusty shelves ablaze.

Outside Allerund approached and watched the ensuing mayhem.

Amyrta and Olen took up opposing positions on either side of the beleaguered Kemesarian. The Mithral Scarab lay against the nearby wall, unconscious from her wounds, for the moment ignored by the combatants. Obasi, still invisible, ran up to where the Scarab lay and checked to make certain she still lived, fortunately, she did. He was not a moment too soon. Seeing their master so locked in mortal battle with two of the enemy, while two of the mercenaries charged towards the interlopers to engage them, the third ran for the prone body of the Scarab, intending to rob the heroes of their rescue. The Elemental, meanwhile, had at this point gained the room past the shelves and reveled in setting fire to yet more of the room.

To aid his companions, Obasi used his magics to summon a Giant Scorpion and set it to attack Kemesarian! Seeing a possibility to bring and end to one of his old foes, he bade it attack, while he retained his invisibility to protect the Scarab. The legionnaire, raised his metal shod fist and slammed it down towards the unconscious Mithral's face. Using his Attack of Opportunity (AoO) granted from threatening someone attempting a coup de grace....With not a moment to waste, Obasi threw his body across hers, taking the blow to his shoulder and only succeeding by a hairs breadth. The mercenary was momentarily stunned, not knowing how she survived.

After an abortive attempt to enter the room by leaping through the burning shelves, Allerund picked his was through the flaming brands and fit an arrow to his bow, hoping to aid the combatants as the elemental was even now joining the fight by Kemesarian. Making one final strike at Olen and scoring a long gouge on his ribs, Kemesarian unceremoniously ran, straight towards the burning portion of the warehouse while the elemental and mercenaries closed in. Nearly tripping from the deep stab administered by Olen and a head-ringing blow delivered by Amyrta, Kemesarian only just managed to stumble away. Once out of their reach he quickly began fumbling at a pocket of his robes.

The Elemental and Mercs engages the valiant Olen and Amyrta, landing glancing blows to both and scattering yet more embers throughout the building. The melee became swift and furious, scorpion, elemental, mercenaries, all exchanging blows. One of these punishing blows proved too much for Olen, as the elemental delivered a clout that sent him sprawling, unconscious, possibly dead. Amyrta's fist gained renewed fervor as she quickly dispatched the two remaining mercenaries engaging her. The merc trying to murder the Scarab took a last half-hearted attempt before fleeing out the back door. In the confusion Kemesarian managed to choke down his invisibility potion and slip out the back in the next few moments.

Turning to face the elemental, Amyrta thought she was alone, neither Obasi, nor Allerund could she see. Yet, she still faced it. Slashing at it with her kama, it returned the favor by dripping flames across her, trying to add her form to the pyre. Alas for the elemental, it was not to be. To swift to be caught by the fires, she danced away from it just as the summoning magic that sustained it failed, sending it back to whatever fiery place spawned it. Obasi, realizing that Olen's death was likely at hand, reached over and used his Wand of Cure Light Wounds to attempt to save Olen. Fortunately, he was just in time to do so. Seeing there were no further enemies to be defeated, the PCs quickly fled the burning building so that they may find some place to rest and recieve healing. After asking Obasi of their options..they quickly decided on the Temple of Sarenrae. The grandest of all temples in Sothis. Arriving there in the dead of night...our exhausted heroes collapsed into the soft embrace of the priests and priestess of the Dawnflower.

Next Session, Arodus 2, 4708 AR

Session 3, Part 3

Spoiler:
Anyone wondering, Daile is not a canonical NPC for J1. She, aside from this little side-quest, is in the adventure solely to appeal to Allerund's character. Not romantically either. She is there to make him wonder why this other group of tomb raiders also have an elf with them. A coincidence? She is also an old character of mine, who ironicly, happened to be just the right level for immediate inclusion in the game. Its interesting the ways things work out sometimes.

While around the warehouse, Olen and Amyrta circled the building, heading for the north wall, the guards within prepared for their escape. Three moving towards the entrance, two going for the secret door. The hooded man, holding Mithral hostage, moved towards the room with the secret door.

Looking around in surprise after hearing the signal arrow, Obasi and Allerund froze, trying to spot anything strange. Fitting an arrow to his bow, Allerund took a few steps towards the warehouse, looking to see more. Placing himself directly in Daile's firing path. The shaft left her greatbow with nary a whisper...singing through the night sky to lodge itself in Allerund's throat! (Crit, confirmed. Card Effect: 2d6 Bleed)
Staggering in shock, Allerund ran to where Obasi looked at him wide eyed and managed to growl for him to get down. They quickly got to the lee side of the tent near where they were standing to take cover. Once under cover, Obasi tried to stop the bleeding with his wand. Fortunately for Allerund, this was enough. Unfortunately, in the night, they had not spotted the shooter. Not before running for cover.

Seeking to quickly end the elf and to eliminate the problem of the sorcerer, Daile decided on a cruel action. She produced her Fire Elemental Gem and shattered it on the street. A Large Fire Elemental swirled up in lambent flame from within the crystal.

"Destroy the elf, Allerund." She said to it.

The vortex of flame and ash streaked of towards their hiding place, far faster than most men afoot. Streaking towards the men, Allerund looked at Obasi and hoarsely asked,

"Did you do that?!"
"NO!" Obasi shouted back.

The elemental towered over them and began to pummel them with tongues of living fire, burning Allerund severely. Obasi, luckily managed to avoid being singed. Stepping back, out of range, Allerund and Obasi took turns firing arrows and blasts of acid at it to little effect. Surging forward again, it set Allerund ablaze, his clothing and hair igniting like kindling. Staggering away and swatting at the fire, his skin blackening and splitting in places, Allerund shouted for Obasi to use his magic to become invisible and flee! Taking his own advice, Allerund greedily consumed a Potion of Invisibility and then dropped to the ground, smoldering. Obasi, seeing Allerund vanish, prepared himself for a desperate measure.

Under cover of the darkness, Daile circled around the other side of the tents, not knowing that the elf she so wished to kill had just made himself invisible. She circled around and began sighting down her arrow, looking for the target.

Back at the warehouse, a short distance away, the group of three Chelish Mercenaries burst from the front doors, setting up a defensive position, not yet realizing the bolt-hole had been locked from the outside. Their task was to buy their master time to escape, with their lives if need be. The hooded man, the morally bankrupt Kemesarian, last seen administering to the antiquities auction by the PCs, dragged Mithral towards the exit room. Olen, calling upon the power of Cayden Cailean and the view of the room he'd had a moment before prayed for the veils between worlds to part and become a doorway. Stepping through, he came face to face with Kemesarian and immediately recognized him before trying to run him through with the point of his rapier! Stumbling back, Kemesarian, unsheathed a wickedly curved falchion upon which he meant to spit the annoying priest.

A fierce duel ensued. Amyrta, hearing the mercs trying to smash the secret door open, returned to that point to lay in wait. As the door finally smashed open, she floored one of the men with a crushing blow before triggering her Bracers of Repulsion sending them staggering. Leaping over them, she burst into the main room of the warehouse in time to see Olen step back from the man while waving his free hand in eldritch passes and saying "I think I got the wrong warehouse.... after having cast Charm Person.

Kemesarian, however didn't fall for the weak magics and attempted to seperate Olen from his head. Having noticed the duel going on behind them, the guards at the front doors started returning to save their master.

Outside, Obasi stood facing a towering elemental alone. He had little options. calling upon his magic he took the risk to cast a spell of invisibility upon himself. The Elemental, taking advantage of his momentary inaction, swung its flaming appendages at him. His spell nearly disrupted, Obasi called upon every last vestige of strength he had and finished the spell. Disappearing right from beneath the Elemental! Nat 20 spellcraft roll...not kidding!
Allerund, still hidden by invisibility, rolled through the dirt to extinguish the fires still burning on him. Once the fires were out, rolling to a crouch he shouted to Obasi "Get out of there! Head to the warehouse!" An arrow then thudded into the tentpost near him. In the gloom he then noticed the elven archer standing there, trying to listen closely...

Tauntingly, she said "You're Allerund right...?" After a pause, and no response from him..."Ahh...not talking I see."

Turning to the Elemental standing still a short ways away..."Go and kill them all!" With a glance back towards where she was sure Allerund was standing near...she then raced off into the night.

Part 4 coming soon.

Session 3, Part 2

Using the knowledge they gleaned from Xaven and Hrokan, supplemented with local knowledge of the city by Obasi, as the hour climbed towards midnight, our eclectic adventurers arrived outside of the warehouse. Attempting to be as cautious as possible, they agreed that Allerund and Obasi would stand back and keep a lookout while Amyrta and Olen slipped around the building to get a closer look. Moving like moonshadows, the two disappeared into the night.

While Olen and Amyrta were seaching behind the building, Obasi and Allerund seemed compelled to have a heart to heart discussion. Perhaps the two men, so different in their outlook on life and destiny, might share some small commonality. Their conversation were so deep and intense, that the gentlemen lost track of their whereabouts and the fact that they were standing in the middle of the main street. Unfortunately for them, Julistar's elf was returning just then. Not being distracted by confusing emotions, her eyes went wide in surprise as she threw herself into the leeward shadow of a nearby tent.

Around the back of the warehouse, Olen and Amyrta, through sheer luck, which apparently Cayden Cailean seems to have granted his priest in abundance, noticed a cleverly concealed door in the wall right where Olen had been planning to climb the wall. Slipping back to the ground, Olen and Amyrta quickly came to agree to a plan, they would wedge a piton into the frame of the secret door, preventing it from opening. The only problem was to muffle the sound.

Behind the tent, realizing that she hadn't been seen, Daile unlimbered her Greatbow and fitted a signal arrow to the string. Sighting upwards, she fired it into the night, releasing a piercing scream! The guards within the warehouse began to scramble to battle readiness and to make their escapes.

Using this sound to cover their hammering, Olen and Amyrta pounded the piton into the door frame. Olen then proceeded to climb up to the narrow window to see what was happening within. He reached the window just in time to see a dark cloaked man slip out of the small office. Dropping down, he turned to Amyrta and quickly realized they needed to see more of the building. Moving quickly, they ran to the south wall of the warehouse and Olen climbed to that window, finally getting a full view of the interior of the warehouse. A clutter place, with hard packed dirt for a floor and rickety wooden shelves holding oilcloth wrapped bundles and piles throughout the building. He also saw the cloaked and hooded man open one of the far doors and pull a near unconscious Mithral Scarab from a different storeroom.

Next...let the games begin!

I've had a song for Laori Vaus to sing flitting around in my head all day.

I'll have to compose it tomorrow when I have time and the warewithal to do so.

A cheerful song about death, blood, torture and pain.

Session 3: Part 1 The Fires of Destiny

1 Arodus, Late Night, 4708 AR

Spoiler:
Note anyone who is planning or also running J1 right now. This entire session is a side-quest designed entirely by me. The kidnapping of the Mithral Scarab is not suggested or in the written adventure at all. I did add this bit of storyline because I though it would make them hate the Expeditionary all the more. It also let me bring the Antiquities dealer, Kemesarian back into the storyline as working with the Expeditionary. This has an impact on Obasi's storyline. Back to the journal!

Having finished their interrogation of the two nefarious henchmen, Xaven and Hrokan, Obasi and the others were forced to decide what to do with them. The master of the inn they were staying at, the Overlander's Emporium was already convinced it was the orc-blooded fellow who was responsible for the fire. Knowing this they decided to press home that advantage.
Beechum

Spoiler:
Folks that are familiar with the series may note that the name and image of Beechum is from the game Suikoden III. I tend to use Suikoden characters for imagery for my games a lot. Other similar sources are Magna Carta and occasionally the more fantasy type Final Fantasy stuff. Adding imagery to my games tends to involve players more, IMO.

They bribed the man with the master crafted scimitar taken from Hrokan after the battle to pay for his damages. Obasi then appealed to the innkeep, asking if they might leave the two knaves here for a few days before deciding what to do with them. After a moment to think, he agreed. The half-orc and halfling were quickly installed into the wine cellar below the Overlander. Hrokan was rather helpful, by virtue of the charming magics that Obasi had previously used upon him. Beechum seems to be taking a liking to Obasi in particular and offered to introduce him to his daughter, the next time that she comes around. Obasi reluctantly agreed.

Their preparations included then, lengthy discussions about how to rescue the Mithral Scarab from this Warehouse and what to do with their documents while pursuing that lead. Making their way across the city to the local Bank of Abadar on the Pathways of Enlightenment, they were greeted by a priest upon the stairs of the chapel enjoying a late night smoke. Seeing as obviously these people were in some grave trouble and hurry, he ushered them inside. The Priest, Father Mikhail was forced to refuse them the use of the vaults at such an ungodly hour as that, but found himself suitably persuaded by the arguement of their platinum-tongued negotiator, Obasi. Once the offering was placed onto the collection plate, Father Mikhail asked their purposes. They set him to copying their documents with deliberate falsehoods in key areas and then to place them in the vault when finished. After they left to rescue the Mithral Scarab, he closed the chapel for the night.

More to come...

Its a goblin flea market, obviously, for buying 'used' goblins!

Curse those Andorans and their supposed freedom! Its all because goblins are evil little knee-biters...they aren't people. At least, not to the 'enlightened masses' of Andoran! I am starting to think that Andoran should have another revolution! Or just be like Galt and keep having one. Better yet, a Goblin Revolution!

Or it could be a junk sale. Considering that goblins raid all kinds of junk heaps and such for raw materials to make shoddy goods from...

Dennis da Ogre...

For whatever reason, the Sorceress/Wizardess will always live on as the most scantily/impractically clad kind of female character, with the rare female warrior (especially if she is a gladiator) who comes close.

As to the power they draw...that pic was of Jeane from Suikoden IV, and her power, aside from scarily strong attack magics was the Beguiler Rune. Think short duration Dominate Monster. Oh and of course regular and constant distraction to the rest of the party is a power as well.

KaeYoss, you never cease to amuse!

Though do note that my profile now lists Calistria and Zon-Kuthon as patron deities.

Much of the same scenario has gone through my head too...for the sadist and the masochist...

Flight Attendant from Hell...LOL! I pretty much though Valley Girl Sado-masochist.

"I am going to whip you until you coat the floor in blood!" says the mysterious masked man.

"Like, okay!" Laori says with a smile and head bob. "So when is my turn?"

Pax...you mean Henry 'Jones' Sr. Right?

Kewl Eyebite. I am still not sure who is going to run next, so I am only sure of what I'll be running for Lilith's game.

Which game it is will more determine what I play than simply what I want to play next.

A few things I want to play

Rogue (possibly Wilderness variant)
Fighter (likely the Thug variant)
Shoanti Barbarian or Spirit Shaman or maybe Druid
Possibly a Sorcerer in there somewhere

Thats mainly it for now.

Okay, its settled. When Lilith runs J3 I am soooo playing a Soulknife.

Be afraid.

I do admit that if many priestesses of Zon-Kuthon wear the skin tight chainmail like Laori Vaus, then perhaps its for me too. ^_^

The true question Yoda is this.

Was it Zon-Kuthon himself that you find so alluring, or was it thinking of the religious practices and a certain follower of his?

Hennet is a "kinky bondage fetishist..." Quite right.

Being turned on by Zon-Kuthon is a very delicate question.

Do I like self-mutilation? No. Piercings are perfectly fine though and often quite enjoyed! Removing ones upper lip completely? Not very sexy.

Leather? Absolutely!

Whips? In proper circumstances.

Chains/Tied-up? Proper circumstances.

Hardcore Bondage (ballgags, straight jackets, asphyxial erotica)? Not really my speed.

Some intentional pain? Absolutely.

If I had clerical abilities, I am sure I'd be more devout. Goes and changes his patron deity in profile. Now its Calistria and Zon-Kuthon.

I think I qualify as a lay follower now.

Vance, do you endeavor to use quotes like the the news does? To sensationalize?

I also said that I really didn't think it was worth making a thread about.
I also totally understand why Sebastian was upset.

If you are going to quote someone, please do try not to misquote purposefully in order to attempt to strengthen your case.

Vance. I posted a shortly before you about an hour ago. I was there in the chatroom when this happened. It happened while my attention was elsewhere, but then I realized that Sebastian was upset and asked about it. I saw some of what was written about this topic. If you are going to give someone so much grief about something like this, read the posts people put.

First, I assure you I am not an alias of Sebastian or a clone.

Second, I frequent the Chatroom, I am going there right now.

Third, if you are going to blatantly ignore a post that was about this particular subject, then you don't deserve an explanation. If your eyesight is poor, then no foul. If you are just jumping to the end to post excitable comments based on vague assertions, see the beginning of number 3.

Once again, this guy (I really don't remember his name, its not a conspiracy) really did help Sebastian with campaign suggestions until he learned it was 4th edition. Then he said that he wouldn't help a 4th edition game. He wasn't rude though he was abrupt about it.

Let me also say that I don't care much for 4thn edition, doesn't mean I can't help Sebastian figure out some ideas for a game. Its mechanics I don't like. Roleplay is still roleplaying. I just feel that 3.P does that better.

I personally don't see much use in a thread like this, but if Sebastian needs to vent, let him vent.

And out springs one of those Chatroom goers!

I wasn't watching the whole topic when this particular event happened...but I was present in the Chatroom. The chatroom functions allow you to scroll up to see what lines have been posted beforehand and catch up if you haven't been paying attention. I started paying attention shortly after said event.

The poster, whose chatroom moniker I do not recall, did quite specifically say that they were now completely uninterested in helping Sebastian if his game was 4th edition. Note that this person had been contributing before this with enthusiasm. I am sure that Sebastian felt the rug had been pulled out from under him and I can understand his being upset be this. As for the contents of this thread...I haven't bothered to read it. I was there in the Chat, I saw what happened (if a few minutes late to actually take part) and that is that.

As for Sebastian taking this as far as it has gone...

He's a lawyer, what else would you expect from such evil?

Spoiler:
I mean it....EEEEEVIILLLL!

R, as stated above.

I can handle PG-13. Take it much more saccharine than that and I am liable to kill myself. Blood guts and gore, good. Do characters visit the brothel? Yes (in detail, no). Would the best time to kidnap or kill a villain character be while he is having sex? Absolutely (no clothes or weapons! Les threat).

My thoughts at least... ^_^

Hoists a cup of Sake in Mikes Honor!

Can't get rid of you now, can they?

Ignore the Dragon posting above me. Look at him! He can't even keep from drooling acid everywhere. This is obviously an attempt at misdirection.

You shall not fool me, Sir Wesley! Oh, you shall not.

Lilith has claimed

J3: Crucible of Chaos

As a future adventure she plans to run. Anyone who wants to run a specific adventure, state so now. Lets start getting some of these together so that those who are going to run them can start reading them and getting ideas and doing whatever prep they need. Partly I realize its rather difficult to prepare for a game by not reading the product you are going to run. So lets leap that little hurdle.

If you want to know my favorite level...let me simply say that I am a fan of Dungeon Grrrl's Black Days of Kor Kammor Campaign Journal, which is very extreme. Unless I am playing a 1-1 game with my wife though, I rarely go to such lengths.

For content, I am perfectly open to whatever. Gore, torture, mutilations, etc. do not bother me. I actually tend to prefer such things in a game, as they tend to create more atmosphere. Thus far, I've been very cautious in J1 with you guys. I do believe in there being romance and relationships in games, but not with the kooky mechanics of the Book of Erotic Fantasy.
If a character is in a relationship, long or short-term, then play through it. That doesn't mean we have to play out every step of what goes on.

A good example is this, if you have ever seen Berserk (anime and manga)? I am quite happy with that level of grittiness. Beyond that might be much even for me and Berserk is rather harsh. I am fine with tame too, I just might have a character go do something in character that they might do if a game is tame or not.

Ok...well I think we know that was a plug for Pygon's program. ^_^

When you run a game Pygon, is that the system we will be using? Or do you want to keep that in reserve for RHoD?

Speaking of which, aside from Eyebite, does anyone have an adventure (shorter than RHoD, which I understand is pretty large) that they have been wanting to run? I know you, Daigle and Lilith, said you have a lot of the modules, but are there any in particular you like the concept of or have wanted to run?

Part of the reason I ask is that I tend to create characters with a relative obsessive fervor. I like to have as much time as I can to get one together so I can toy around with things to get it just right. Once we know who is running the next adventure, we can start making sure we all know of any rules variants and stuff like that to be prepared for. Or is everyone on board with my idea that we try to keep rules consistent between us all?
If that is the case, then please give me feedback on the various little tweaks we are currently using, if you like them, dislike them, etc.

As for rules, here is one more that I don't play with, Death from Massive Damage. I'm not even sure if its in the PF Alpha Rules or not, but I never liked it.

Speaking of Salvatore - while they are a bit up and down, I generally enjoyed his first books (I prefer the Legacy of the drow series). And then I read the Cleric's quintet omnibus.... Awful, horrible, terrible, not very good books.

I'd have to agree on that. I wasn't expecting Drizzt level Salvatore...but jeez. The series had some interesting and fun characters...but otherwise.

A poor read was the book The Ruins. Recently a movie of the same name. I read the book and consequently was warning people not to see the movie. The book strung you along, being just at the readable level, until the end. At the end you find out the whole stupid hill was essentially a giant carnivorous vine plant. There was no chance for the people to survive from the beginning! The end. I actually had to do a double-take at the book and say "Wha...?"

Why, whatever do you mean? Tease? Surely not!

Then again....

Since we are posting fanservice stuff...one of my favorites...

From the video game series of RPGs Suikoden

I give you....

Jeane

Seoni does have competition...and the scantily clad girl in W3 as well!

Congrats PH! Glad to hear deed was done. And Scotland and stuff? Sounds like a nice trip. Good for you. And to top it off with some CoC...even better.

I know Pygon currently doesn't have any GameMastery Modules, but he is expecting LB1 when it comes out.

So for the sake of what folks already have then.

Lilith: Open

Daigle: D2 Seven Swords of Sin and Open (though unless you've changed your mind about wanting to run, we'll keep you at the bottom of the rotation for now)

Pygon: LB1, especially considering you don't have any others yet or even this one.

Eyebite: W2 River Into Darkness and open to those others you have.

We'll consider W2 reserved for Eyebite to run, LB1 for Pygon (again, as he needs to expand his Paizo library ^_^) and D2 for Daigle, seeing as he has already run that one and probably shouldn't play in it.

I am not putting these out there to try and lock anyone into a certain adventure. I just think it'd be good to know who has played or GMed certain ones to make sure someone doesn't inadvertently get run through one they've GMed.

Now for the big question? Who want to run next? I expect about 5-6 more sessions of J1, so it might be a good idea to start getting things in line for the next now. So.....? Volunteer or be voluntold! :p

Ok folks...now begins the listing of what modules you possess so we can start planning the next arc of our little rotation.

I have the following

D0 Hollows Last Hope
D1 Crown of the Kobold King
D1.5 Revenge of the Kobold King
D2 Seven Swords of Sin
D3 Demon Within
J1 Entombed with the Pharaohs (Currently GMing)
J3 Crucible of Chaos
TC1 Into the Haunted Forest
U1 Gallery of Evil
U2 Hangmans Noose
W1 Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale
W2 River Into Darkness
W3 Flight of the Red Raven

I've also skimmed through Guardians of Dragonfall and am not to sure about that one. Aside from J1, I really have not done more than flipped through most of these. I didn't want to ruin the chance I might have to play in one some day.

Depending on the game and whatnot, I think I might prefer to try out the PF Rogue.

End Session 2

There were again, no deaths. Amazingly, not even any villains died. They were extremely lucky! Two enemies captured though!

A few notes to anyone reading this thread, especially to prospective GMs of this adventure....

So as not to reveal things to those who don't really want to know, Or to my players (No reading guys and Lady!) this shall be spoilered.

Spoiler:

I found that the backstory of this adventure needed a little work. I know that I said I was not going to do much to change or alter the adventure, that started changing once session 2 loomed closer.

I specifically needed to do something to make Lonicera more dynamic. The characters were so suspicious of her that I had no idea what to do. I came up with a rather decent idea actually. First, she had to be altered into a real scholar, not just some hussy bard trying to get by on Bardic Knowledge. I decided to use this instead

Lonicera Moonthrush: Female Human Bard 3/Savant 3 (dragon compendium)

This makeup gives her a great deal more access to skills and useful knowledge that might make things interesting.
Also, where the adventure prints that she is rather likely to betray the Expeditionary if the PCs get the upper hand...I have instead made her more of a third faction. Shes struck out to get the mask herself and beat everyone else to the pyramid. Being a Savant as well as a bard gives her an interesting array of abilities that might actually serve to get her some ways into the Pyramid alone, who knows?

1 Arodus (Wealday) After Sunset, 4708 AR

After retiring to the Overlander's Emporium to rest and to study the relics recovered from the Malhitu Auction, everyone decided to do something a bit different.
Allerund and Obasi purchased a room so that Allerund could rest and Obasi could attempt to decipher the scrolls and papyri. This was fated to take a few hours of painstaking work...
Meanwhile....Olen Marroguin sought to offer a prayer to Cayden. Fortunately, the Overlander has a rather large stock or exotic liquors available to the discerning palate. The Mithral Scarab said good night, but stayed for a drink or two at a spot near the door. She was shortly joined by a hale and doughty dwarfwoman, Amyrta Stonefist. The two tradeswomen exchanged greetings and talked a bit about their 'business'. After a few hours of drinking, talking, resting and study ensued, the Mithral Scarab left the Overlander unobtrusively while the dwarfwoman came to speak to the devout priest. Olen appeared to be quite generous in his offerings to his deity.

Spoiler:

Around this time, little did they know that they were being watched. From the candlelit window near which Obasi was studying the documents watched hateful and scornful eyes. Xaven Neversword and the mysterious Daile Talenthias kept vigil over the doing of Allerund and Obasi. Having tracked them to the Overlander, Xaven was still frothing at the bit after his Creeping Glyph failed to bring down the stupid Priest. Nearby, Hrokan the Assailant sat brooding, waiting for the moment he might be needed, while Daile sighted down the arrow notched into her bow, prepared to end the osiriani man if necessary.

Finally! A breakthrough in the codes. Obasi, through dilligence and will finally managed to begin his journey to understanding the ancient scripts meaning. (Information I won't reveal here!) He quickly related this information to Allerund and the extremely dangerous implications that might result. Allerund and Obasi quickly made plans to tell the others.
Below, over beer and tea, Amyrta Stonefist introduced herself to Olen. Through her manner and tone, perhaps foolishly, he came to trust and believe her story. Following an incident of a horribly drunken dwarf hurling the contents of his stomach nearly directly on Olen, he led her upstairs to meet his companions. After a suspicious receptionn, Amyrta produced her letter of introduction from Shevala, also offering a rather painfully playful pinch to his lower rear quarter. The pinch came compliments of Venture-Captain Shevala. After some strained introductions at that point, the party began to fill Amyrta in on exactly what they are investigating and why. Amyrta shared with them some information about the scholar Imvius that raised some alarming questions about the presence of the Paracount Julistar being here. The fact that the Paracount is also a Demicardinal of Asmodeus was not all that well recieved.

There then came a knock at the door. They quickly took up defensive positions, expecting....something. From the other side came a scornful nasal voice.
"My master, the Paracount Julistar, requests that you meet with him for discourse." Scepter said to them.
A terse exchange followed, with the party scoffing at the idea of meeting with the Chelish Nobleman. Finally they sent Scepter away using Julistars feigned lack of interest in the artifacts they procured as an additional reason not to trust him even a little. Incensed, Scepter led away his two guardsmen and returned across and down to the street to the abandoned home in which Julistar and some of the soldiers were waiting.

In a quick decision, the party decided to tail Scepter. Obasi cast Invisibility magics all around, though he stayed behind to guard the documents. He covered the windows with the heavy curtains and locked the door upon the rest leaving in pursuit.

Spoiler:

From across the street, Xaven stood straight from his squat. Daile looked over at him questioningly. Gesturing at the now closed off curtains in their room, he mentions that he saw them all disappear...looking down into the street, it was readily apparent that they disappeared right on Scepters heels. Xaven looked at Daile questioningly.

"Go ahead Xaven. Take Hrokan with you and try to take the osiriani alive if hes there." She said, sounding bored by the prospect.

Those that pursued Scepter sneaked out into the street and followed him through the rapidly cooling night to an abandoned house. Entering behind him, they came down a short hallway to see him disappear into a room with a heavy looking door. A room guarded by some of Julistar's mercenaries. Using their magical stealth to their advantage, they moved to the door and listened in on the conversation, completely unnoticed by the watching guards. Those guards yawns and the sounds of gaming within were the only sounds to be heard, nothing of Julistar or Scepter. After a few moments, they heard the guards mention Julistar and Scepter talking in another room, one they couldn't hear into. Just as they were preparing to break in and capture Julistar, the door opened. All told the Paracount walked out with an entourage of 8 chelish mercenaries and Scepter, too long of odds for the PCs to try and handle. Pressing themselves as flat against the walks of the corridor, the PCs dared not move or they might give away their positions! Fortunately, standing in the corridor was not what the Paracount had in mind. After the escort left with Julistar, the party followed.

Back at the Overlander, Obasi sat quietly in the room, keeping watch. He noticed not a thing until the door opened and a maniacal halfling threw a thunderstone at the center of the room. Reeling backwards, the invisible Obasi stared in shock as Xaven's eyes swept the room for the documents. A swift fight began, as Obasi charred the halfling with a Scorching Ray! Attempting to brain the osiriani sorcerer with his truncheon had little success for Xaven, the advantage of surprise lost. After a few moments and blows exchanged, he fled into the hall, passing Hrokan, where he lay in wait. Obasi pursued, only to be nearly cleaved in twain by the keen blade of Hrokan's poisoned scimitar. Staggered from the blow, the tough sorcerer rallied and managed to resist the insidious effects of the poison coursing through his blood.

What could only be described a brawl followed. Blasting the brutal half-orc in the face with his Acid Wand, Obasi narrowly avoided being skewered through the breastbone by a fierce lunge from Hrokan. The giggling evil of Xaven merely stood farther down the hall, seemingly doing nothing. Obasi realized his mistake only a moment later as the unseen Creeping Glyph burst under his feet, sending his sense reeling. Blasting desperately with fire and acid, Obasi put up a noble fight, but victory seemed to be swaying towards the villainous rogues. Out of sheer madness and desperation, Obasi flung himself back down the corridor while releasing a string of incantations and flicking a pearl of fire at Hrokan. The fireball burst with a deafening roar in the enclosed area.
As the smoke and flame cleared, the corridor had become a mass of flickering flames! Xaven lay blackened and unmoving on the ground...Hrokan was nowhere to be seen. Stepping over to Xaven, Obasi aimed his Wand and came within a hairs breadth of loosing its stored magic on the nasty little man. Instead, sense came back to Obasi before he could act on such an impulse. He grabbed the man and dragged him into the common room, in time to see Hrokan stumbling towards the innmaster.

Outside, the Expeditionary formed up to watch the building begin to burn, realizing that to try to rescue Hrokan or Xaven would associate the Paracount with the two bandits. While they stood there, Allerund and Olen ran inside, leaving Amyrta to block the doorway invisibly. From her vantage point, Amyrta saw what the others had missed, a lithe elf woman, who came walking up to Julistar. The elf said the same to Julistar as he had obviously been thinking, that to associate themselves with Hrokan and Xaven at this point would void their charter. Thus they marched away from the building without a second glance. The pale haired elf slung her bow across her back as they walked quickly away.

After Obasi looked to the innmaster and proclaimed that Hrokan lit the fires above, an invisible Allerund readied to put an arrow through the bellowing brute heart. Before he could loose the arrow, Obasi fired a handful of magical force bolts that pummelled the badly injured half-orc.
Attempting to keep from being involved with the Sothan Guard Corps, they quickly petitioned the innmaster for a place to question the men. He gladly let them use his storage room out back.

The interrogation, made possible by using spells of enchanting on Hrokan revealed much. A great deal of background information about the scholar Imvius and his true origins were told, Lonicera Moonthrush was exposed as Neferet Anu, pointing out, with some confusion, that Lonicera had not been seen by any of them since the auction. Julistar was supposedly rather upset about this. And that Hrokan seems to think that the Mithral Scarab is even now in Expeditionary hands, enjoying the ministrations of Chelish Legionnaires.

And legionnaires trained in the martial traditions of Hamatulatsu are not gentle men.
The fate of what to do and what to do with these despicable men still remains to be made.

What shall our stalwart PCs do next?

Long time no see DarkArt! Nick certainly does seem to want to keep his dirty little games secret doesn't he! Either that or James and the crew are having to pry his hands away from pressing the 'Submit Post' button. Or the PostMonster is running interference and keeping such evils from seeing the light of the messageboards and indelibly searing themselves onto our corneas...

We may never truly know the depravity that lurks in the depths of the Logue. And no matter how many times James tells us we don't want to know...
that shall not be enough. We are not children, you must let us make our own foolish mistakes.

I wonder if this cherry red stove is hot? I am going to check....brb.

Seriously though...I am one of those who is prepared to be subjected to the greatest of horrors...

Don't worry Allen, I certainly don't think you guys went overboard, I am just admiring the ruthlessness. Messageboards don't often convey the right tone.

You are totally right too. I saw how you were running things at first, they are the ones who tried to ratchet things up. Seriously though, what is it with your games and people making such funky characters?

Turin...I would seriously dread anything further that you could cause with that monstrosity. Considering though, do you have the Advanced Bestiary? If I were you, I'd get it. A book full of cool templates is a great resource.

I add my hearty congratulations to those already given to all the wonderful folks at Paizo.

Great job folks!

Eyebite,

What are Obasi's other Weapon Groups? They are not listed on his character sheet or profile, I missed it and hadn't noticed until now. He should have...

Sorcerer: Basic Weapons plus either Spears and Lances or Crossbows. Being Human, he gets to pick one additional Weapon Group as well. Choose wisely!

Daigle, Olen is missing one Weapon Group too! My house rule for multiclassing with Weapon Groups is this. When multiclassing, compare the number of extra groups granted by the class. If this number is greater or equal to the current number you have, add one weapon group.
So Olen, as a rogue gets: Basic Weapons plus 2
as a cleric: Basic Weapons plus 2
Thus he gets: Basic Weapons +3 groups (i.e. 2+1) and +1 for being Human for Weapon Training for a total of Four + Basic.

Pygon, do you mean Heavy Blades? Martial Blades is not a Weapon Group. Also, as an elf, you get the Bows Group for free. So you have 1 more to pick from.

Lilith, Amyrta gets either the Axes or Picks and Hammers for free, so choose one please. Oh, and your 'Perception' is +x in the profile.

Oh and remember, Crossbows do weapon damage x2 at point blank range.

I've been using MapTool. It works pretty well, it just takes some getting used to.

Party Update then!

Allerund Lastri (Male Elf Ranger 6) Ranged Specialty

Olen Marroguin (Male Human Rogue 3/Cleric 3 of Cayden Cailean)

Obasi the Hex-Tongue (Male Human Sorcerer 6)

Amyrta Stonefist (Female Dwarf Monk 6)

Ahhh...this should be getting fun.
