The Good: Super glad you posted this so I can frakin' steal it. This was a personal top 32 for me as it solves a problem, has cool visual and description.
The Bad: Its a magic item, don't restrict it to salt water!
The Ugly: For its size I want more swim speed, also while frickin' love this thing its clearly niched materiel and questionable superstar for lack of flair.
Overall: With a slight modification I'm using this, love this and think its superstar for me, but I'm not a judge...

:) I really appreciate the feedback on this! The saltwater restriction was really only so that players still had to fumble around with rivers, because that's hilarious. Since I hadn't seen any underwater submersibles in Pathfinder, my idea was to make it not VERY powerful - make it tempting for parties to want to use it for rest, but fragile and slow enough that they'd have to be careful.

:) Gaming tonight, but I'll drop my little guy in here!

Sea Nettle Submersible
Aura moderate conjuration; CL 11th
Slot -- ; Price 16,200 gp; Weight 100 lbs.
Description
Dry and dessicated, this small jellyfish fits easily into any belt pouch. Once per day, as a standard action, when placed in salt water the creature expands until the size of a raft and seems to twitch and wriggle, almost as if it were alive. This summoned craft has a hardness of 1, an AC of 11, and 20 HP.
The magical craft's buoyancy requires riders to enter through the bottom of the large jellyfish from underwater, which hosts a transluscent door made of the jellyfish's fragile but waterproof skin. The submersible holds enough air for 6 people to survive for 9 hours.
The jellyfish responds to the will of its owner, moving at a swim speed of 20 ft in any direction. It is not an intelligent creature and has no will of its own. If the skin of the jellyfish is breached the craft immediately expels its occupants and floats to the surface at 20 feet per round, and cannot be activated for 24 hours.
Construction
RequirementsCraft Wondrous Item, summon nature's ally VI, water breathing; Cost 8100 gp

I loved the Patchwork Cat, it was SO cool! I could see my witch carrying one of those around.

...and I'm glad to see that people in this thread liked my item, but I'm not going to mention its name since I'm not sure if we're supposed to wait or not.

Andoran Dedicated Voter 2013

Me too! I'm really curious as to who it was.

Thanks for the stats :)

You guys are a little touchy - I wasn't "threatening" to "expose" items.

I was simply stating that I've seen so many, so many times, that I've begun to memorize them and would happily offer proof. Relax.

I sit and play my desktop computer games, for hours, and vote on my iPad. The only thing I can think of is that I always have my security settings high. I just think it's an issue with Chrome browser for iPad, it has to be.

I used Safari for a little bit - at the start - I think those are the only votes that got recorded.

I just put a *ton* of time into voting, really reading and considering each vote. It seriously annoys me that it looks like I've done a pittance when I've learned so much while reading each item. Gah.

If you somehow lost your votes, that sucks. But...you know, chill. It's just a tag on an internet forum, and the decision is still up to the judges in the end. Everything's fine.

Andoran Dedicated Voter 2013

With all the gore/pain items we're seeing, I dunno - I haven't seen anything as useful as that nipple ring from BoVD. There just seems to be a glut of masochist items. It's getting a liiiiiittle weird.

Huzzah, I saw it! I didn't get culled. That's such a relief. I think I put an extra number in the weight field by accident, though. Nooooooo...

I'm sure they'll get a pdf up here soon. It is around, anyone who backed the original kickstarter received it about a month ago :) In the meantime, you can also up-bid on the kickstarter for Gamers 3 to get the PDF - the price there at the moment is $10.00.

FYI - there are rules for a 'pile of dead bards' in this module! If you add $10.00 to the Gamers 3 kickstarter, you can get a 'pile of dead bards' miniature. It's actually a game mechanic, and the miniature is beautiful :)

Andoran

Yay!

The spikes are totally drilled into my brain. Now I've got all these bothersome holes, with the con being over.

Hugo, Daigle was grinning ear to ear. It was so funny to see someone to excited over a flumph!~

Not that they don't deserve it!

Giving my hubby's awesome module kickstarter a friendly little bump.

Today is the last day to get in on the kickstarter, folks! Also...a mound of dead bards miniature!

Andoran

Oooh. I never get to play out Munchkin, our decks were stolen. Could be fun!

Andoran

Aaaugh I think I'm gonna explode!

I'm switching between frantically painting miniatures, drawing up maps, and pulling my hair out in anticipation.

I wish Thursday was just here.

Andoran

Boy, this sounds fun! I can't wait!

Andoran

I'm really looking forward to visiting the farmer's market! I don't normally get to.

Having never been to Washington, I just don't know what to expect!

Andoran

I didn't manage to get into either of the terrain events due to the event process problems, either. So I'm not really doing any scheduled events.

...but hey, it's all about having fun, right? As much as I'd LOVE to attend those, there's gonna be a lot more to do, so you know - go with the flow. Or something.

But I feel your pain!

It looks like you tried to sign up for MinionQuest, which does conflict with those seminars. If it filled up shortly or immediately after, that would have blocked you from the Terrain events due to the glitch. I'm sorry.

Aww, man. I didn't even want to sign up for that, I must have mis-clicked. That blows.

Oh well, thank you for looking. :(

Ross Byers wrote:

It looks like you were affected by the same bug as the person in this thread. (Basically, if you had a conflicting event that filled up, it became impossible to 'uncheck' the event and clear the conflict, because it was already unchecked.)

I've manually shoved you back into Sean's seminars and we're updating the site to keep this type of error from occurring again.

Ross, I don't suppose you know if it's the same thing that happened to me above? I'm kind of bummed out that it didn't let me into either because of some conflicting thing, when I had no conflicting events to begin with.

Sorry, hope I'm not being a bother, I'm just antsy to hear what happened and if I'm marked as in any of the terrain events..

It says that the Styrofoam one is full, but that the plaster brick one I signed up for isn't...if it isn't full, why wasn't it added to my schedule?

So I re-add it and click 'save changes'... and it tells me:

"You have signed up for two or more events that conflict with each other.

Your registration for these events will not be counted until the conflict is resolved. "

But my schedule is literally only:

Game Room
The First Annual Open Jousting Competition (4th-6th level division)

...so I have no conflicts. I don't know what's going on and it makes me so sad, I really want in on these.

So what is the problem? Trying to negotiate with somebody while the rest of the party is trying to kill her is obviously futile -- but since she could be the only one acting hostile, going full defensive and attempting to negoatiate is a perfectly valid tactic, especially against a foe who could take down the entire party singlehandedly.

I have to disagree - and despite what was said above, I did allow them to roleplay. The problem is that in 3.5, the PC could have just made a single diplomacy check. If the check was good enough, I could have moved her from hostile to neutral and had her stop to consider, so perhaps there could be roleplay.

The way the skill challenge is set up, she goes from 'wanting to rip you in twain' hostile, to 'ooh, hey, you're kind of cool, you can go!' friendly. There is no in between. Why would you continue negotiating with a monster trying to murder you while it is trying to bash your face in?

Because of the skill challenge and how it is set up, the roleplay has no freedom.

Andoran

YAY! I'm going to go download this.

One thing I find annoying in planning my trip is that the hotel does not offer shuttle service to/from the airport. The approximated cost for a cab is $60 (about the same as getting a service to drive me) which is somewhat startling, but considering the distance somewhat expected. If I rent a car I have that cost in addition to paying $60 in parking. The PaizoCon rate is still a good deal, but I'm a bit miffed at the add on expenses, particularly the internet.

You know, my husband and I will be flying in Thursday and are encountering the same issue. Maybe people should start a thread to share rides to/from the hotel, as far as sharing shuttle services from the airport to reduce costs?

Andoran

This reminds me of the one time I ran our group in 4th edition. We had played the 3.5 conversion of Tomb of Horrors, that was brutal.

So we thought "What better a chance to try 4th edition than with the same module we beat with only one death?"

An individual you don't really have a chance of persuading in 3.5, as they are extremely hostile, has a skill challenge attached to her in 4e. The players would not have known, so I had to inform them of the skill challenge. It was something like...they had to roll 5 diplomacy checks successfully to make her non-hostile.

The problem is, that she starts AS hostile and doesn't wait. So this person was smashing them up against the wall, trying to kill them, all while the cleric screams "WAIT, NICE LADY, WE WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND. PLEASE BE OUR FRIEND."

There was NO way for my players to roleplay it. It was just so jarring. He asked if he could talk to her...she's set to immediately attack, so my answer had to be "No, but you CAN participate in this skill challenge..."

It turned out to be far worse for RP than I had even assumed it would be.

Andoran

Hey, that sounds like a fun time. :) Thanks for the information!

Andoran

My husband and I are also looking for tickets. I made a booboo and didn't buy them fast enough.

I would love to surprise my husband and tell him we can actually go. :) Worth a shot, I guess! Thanks!

Andoran

Hi everyone,

I've never been to a gaming con before, and I'm so excited for Paizocon to be our first gaming con. I know other cons have miniature painting related activities...does Paizocon typically?

Andoran

Man, that's such bad luck. Was really looking forward to that, too, and I totally forgot until today. Ffffff-

*What's with the italicized descriptive text? That's not how wondrous items are written.

*Reflex is a game term. It needs to be capitalized.

*The channel energy ability is a class ability. It needs to be lowercase and not italicized.

*And purify food and water is a spell name, which should always be lowercase.

*And Craft Wondrous Item is a feat name and should never be italicized.

*And the price and cost values for wondrous items, actually do need "gp" next to them.

*Any amount of research into any wondrous item would reveal these things. This designer didn't do their homework. Or they're lazy. Or they're both.

*This many missteps are a clear indication to me that the designer isn't ready. And that's even before I assess what the item does. If I go that far, it's magic chopsticks that have a SIAC effect for making purified spicy food. And, for some reason they can also set undead on fire as part of a channeled energy attack. Who knew Sarenrae loved chopsticks and spicy food so much?

*I actually do like the catch on fire element of a channeled energy attack connected to the sun goddess, but that's not enough to redeem this item.

*Vote to Reject.

*Agreed. Reject.

*Agreed. Reject.

*Rejected.

This is a case where I truly appreciate the feedback. Thank you for posting this, Neil, and thank you guys for all giving constructive feedback. I can't believe I made as many silly mistakes as I did - but it leaves me with the feeling that at least my idea was strong, and it's the execution I need to improve upon.

Thank you SO much for the advice that's wrapped up in this, I'll make sure to do better next year!

Whoo.

Okay.

I went over a billion things in my head after submission. I cut down a lot of the lore, so I really would love to know the honest truth on this item.

Hashi of the Impassioned Dawnflower

Aura faint varied; CL 4th
Slot Head; Weight --; Price 4,500 g

Description:

This pair of long and tapered chopsticks are made from a dusky rose quartz, engraved with images of a shapely woman embracing and raising the sun. The tips are shod with gold that glows a faint pink.
The chopsticks are intended as hair ornamentation, and are worn at the back of the head.

Intended for priestesses of the Sun Goddess, this item brings her wrath upon the undead. If the wearer has the Channel Energy ability and uses it to damage undead, those affected take an additional 1d6 fire damage and risk catching fire as holy blue flames engulf the enemy(reflex save DC 15, 1d6 fire damage each round until successful reflex save).

This item can be used for eating, as well. When removed from hair, the hashi can be used to purify 3 pounds of food per 24 hour period, as per the spell Purify Food and Water. Any food purified by the chopsticks becomes significantly more spicy.

Construction: Craft Wondrous Item, Channel Energy, Purify Food and Water ; Cost: 2,250

Oh man, I submitted for the first time this year. How can anyone stand waiting almost a month to find out who won? So anxious!

That being said, I really can't wait to see what people made. I've always found these forums a little weird as far as layout goes, but I think I'll start frequenting now.

Andoran Dedicated Voter 2013

Does anyone know if the word limit includes everything - as in "aura" "cl" and all that...or just the description?

Andoran

Yay! Hotel booked. That woman was really nice, too.

Airfare is pretty reasonable right now too, time to buckle down and pull together the funds for that. This is going to be so awesome.
