I think Hasbro is hoping most folks aren't starting new 3.5 campaigns. Them hoping it don't necesarily make it true though Yup, I'm mid Savage Tide, and plan on running Shackled City, then Age of Worms, then Eyes of the Lich Queen, then the Eberron 3 module campaign...then the pathfinder campaigns!
They should be on 4.5E by the time I'm done with all those...

Now you still get the same drama, but it's when the DM rolls to critical on the dragon's breath weapon... except the drama really wasn't yours...
Here's another example I can see happening: Trapbait steps into the corridor, DM rolls a secret d20 versus Trapbait's Reflex save...20! Automatic hit with the instant death falling block trap...
Here's another conundrum, if the new system is so great, why are they talking about removing "slay Living"? Does this mean all insta-death spells will be removed?

We aren't quite ready to announce the details yet, but I saw some pretty nifty pictures of some greens (miniatures sculptors do their sculpts in this green material) and I was pretty darn excited. In the not too distant future, we will have unpainted metal miniatures of our iconics, the Pathfinder goblins, and other cool villains and monsters from the series. If the quality of these miniatures is any indication, you guys are going to love them. Expect some more info in a week or so.

Ooo, That sounds pretty sweet. I'll be watching for them.
Rune Scryber wrote: Sounds cool, although I don't have much time to paint minis anymore. I haven't really collected minis since the mid 80's. All of mine were at a friends house when he decided to join a new church. The pastor came over to his house and told him demons were inhabiting the minis. My friend melted all of them. Ugh...and I don't suppose he paid you back for destroying your property in the name of God?

For the big vs many pdf's
If I have 1 pdf that isn't protected I can extract the pages I want and have those open when I have a need for them. If it's protected, I can't do that. 1 pdf file is better than 10.
I think the DRM is a pain and kind of insulting to me, the customer. There are things I like to do with my pdf's but can't if they are password protected. I'm not a pirate and I don't like being treated as such. I know the security features are used in business, but it ain't cool to tick off your customer.
I still like the pdf and it looks cool and it's neato keen. Thanks for hooking us up with it.
I'll make due with the protections and multiple pdf's. (but I shouldn't have too do that.)
seacrest out.
ps. The art rocks!
Sorry, but unfortunately this is a case of thousands of rotten apples spoiling the few...

I dare say, the rad presentation of the Realms in 3rd Edition is one of the things that made the transition easy for me from AD&D 2nd Ed. Recycling is GREAT! when you actually recycle the exterior, not the interior, A New edition is like taking the soda out of the can, and putting it in a new can!!! Not really recycling...just repackaging the original product.
I do however agree, that the 3rd edition realms had a very cool package! The regional starting areas were excellent.
Do you think 4E will even be close?
I may have misread the design post about the turn sequence, I had read it as, On the Dragon's first turn, instead of "on the Dragon's turn, first it..."
Anyway, from everything I've read, it's not really going to be D&D anymore, it seems more like WoTCs FAntasy RPG...25 spell levels? huh?
For those who think that 4E is not a major revision...
from Wizards... http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ask/20070823a
Q: Dear Sage
Will I be able to convert my favorite character to 4th Edition?
A: We learned the hard way with 3rd Edition that accurate conversion really doesn't work. Thus, we're encouraging everyone to start at 1st level and learn the new system from the ground up.
While you'll certainly be able to reinvent many existing characters with the new system, there's no way a conversion guide could adequately cover the vast array of options that have been published over the lifespan of the game.
We'll eventually revisit many favorite parts of the previous edition, and along the way we'll also explore plenty of new territory as well.
This tells me that 4E is not 3E...
Also the description of what a dragon can do in 1 round, and the fact a Fighter hit the dragon for 500 dmg in 1 round is a bit disconcerting.... sounds like DDO...DDO isn't a hugely popular MMO...

Marc Radle 81 wrote: I think you may be confusing 1E with Basic D&D a little.
I started playing under 1E (of course it wasn't called that then, it was just AD&D) and loved it. When they switched to 2E ... well, I was less than impressed. We all stuck with 1E for a long time in fact.
I played some 2E but really didn't like it much. THACO? Come on.
Any way, I think it really is, to some extent anyway, what you grow up with. For me, playing AD&D as a 12 or 13 year old was the Golden Age. When 2E came out, D&D died a little for me.
Third Edition is actually what rekindled D&D for me.
I'm a 24 year D&D Vet. I started in 6th grade with AD&D, we had our many monty haul games back in the day.
2nd Ed...I say FHACK0 THAC0! I quit 2nd Edition years before 3rd edition came out...I was playing Earthdawn, Deadlands, and 7th Sea! (oh and White wolf games)
When D&D is bad, other new systems which are way more innovative and impressive are designed...
When 3.0 came out, I was impressed...
I like 3.5...I doubt I will like 4.0, I dislike being railroaded into an online format. I spend 8-10 hours a day working on the computer, I like to be able to sit down and crack open a book, not a computer to plan my D&D games!
I like being able to lie in bed and read my brand new book or Dragon or Dungeon the day it arrives!!! I think WoTC is making a huge mistake...and by my Pathfinder Charter Subscription tag, I will still be able to crack open a brand new periodical and lie in bed!
What say you? WHAT SAY YOU?!
My party decided to split up during the Blue Nixie encounter, after they were chased off by the crossbow wielding guards after the botched sneaked attempt. 1 by land 2 by sea...they commandeer a dinghy, the warlock and rogue attempt to get close enough to the ship to climb on board, alas they are spotted...
"Oi, who goes there?" guard
"What are you doing on my boat?!" in a drunken voice
much comedy ensues
Characters bought a launch (stormwrack) to get to Parrot Island (my Parrot Island was 2 miles away, not 200 yards). The Fighter (who has 3 ranks of sailor, fails spectacularly on her landing attempt at the beach, and causes some minor damage to the Launch...but ends up with the nick-name, CAPTAIN CRUNCH!
To make this battle fair, you need to have it in an arena that isn't just a big colosseum. Perhaps a hall of columns, where the wizard won't be able to just blast the fighter into non-existence in 1 round.
Xaaon, my first level 65 character in everquest (a dark elf mage)
of Xen'drik (I love Eberron, what can I say?)
Extreme Explorer/Loremaster, any race (thirst for knowledge)
Shifter Monk (inner rage)
Xen'drik Drow Scout (dark side)
WArhammer Dwarf Giant-slayer! (more rage, mixed with a big orange mohawk!!!)
in that order!
Just tell her.
I always told my Ex, would you rather I play D&D or go to a strip club drink'n with the boys?
You said she's kinda slutty, is she a intellectual nympho? or a stupid slut? if she's the latter, enjoy it while it lasts, but keep your money for gaming, and don't blow it all on her. If she's the former, maybe she'll want to test her wit in a fantastic adventure.

I'd buy the Celstial Codex, and sad as it is, I'd probably buy the Flumph Codex.
A book I wouldn't buy?
Piles of The Realm: a scatological exploration of Waterdeep and beyond.
I think a Feceflinger PrC wouldn't even be fun to read. ~LAUGHTER~ Good one! ah but you fail to realize, WAterdeeps sewers would be extensively covered...in fecal matter...and you find out what happens to what beholders eat!
CD Player? how archaic...I have Psy trance in my IPod, dunno what psy-trance is? di.fm check it out, it's free...
