I'd love that...

I want to know what Cayden went through.

I really liked the John Wick segment, I have always loved his work, and the "make the game you want to play in" part, really inspired me with my cinematic combat project I'm working on.

I do find that battles that are on the battlemat with the group I'm running tend to be less RP and more wargame...kinda pisses me off personally...and I'm getting sick of it.

1st thing, you need to make notes for everything int he area that could be used cinematically.

try to hit all the senses. Sight, sound, touch, smell, taste.
(Taste is easily tied to smell...)

Have the opponents use the scenery cinematically to encourage to players to do this also.

Make sure you know how most of your scenery will work. How strong is that table? When the characters cut the chandelier, what will happen?

Describe the scenery at hand...

I use a pair of Chessex mats, I have recently started using the hex sides, since I prefer the movement on those.

However I use Wizards tiles also...they make quick dungeons easy.

Really, that's it? Oh joy! Rapture! Thank you so much! I'd hug you if I wasn't deathly afraid of a lawsuit!
I've seen some people recommend bumping up the HP a little bit, too. YMMV.

I'm one of those:

Under Beta, I upped the HP to 80%...but you also just drop the CR by 1.

I think someone has already converted the RotRL mobs to Beta...

Same here. I used to have a guy who would only play a character that took vow of poverty. Geuss who doesn't play with us anymore...

Wow, that's lame...he just left the group since you didn't allow him to use it any more?

Woohoo!! GratZ

The way I look at the economy is this...if you stop spending all your money, the things you love will not be there when the economy recovers...so buy the stuff you love...support the places you love...

I try to buy something from my favorite restaurants at least once per month, and I maintain my Pathfinder stuff even though it's expensive in my budget.

I would tell the offending person to change their alignment to neutral (evil tendencies). If they continued down that path, they would become NE.

I do like the alignment system from the Book of Divine Might.

Where you have numeric values from 1(slightly) to 9(fanatical) for your 2 chosen alignments. There is no True Neutral, you have to have at least a 1 in C or L and a 1 in E or G.

So a true Neutral might be a C1G1 or an L1E1. To gain benefits or penatlies and to register as evil/lawful/good/chaotic you have to have at least a 3. A Paladin might be a L5G3 if he follows a god of law, or a L3G6 if he follows a Good god, or if he's Lawful Stupid, he might be a L7G7. Demons would be C9E7-9, Devils L6-9E7-9, daemons would be c/L1,E9.

The far ends of the spectrum are fanatics.

I think this aligment system is great, and it allows easy shifting by the DM.

DM to the "neutral" player commiting evil acts. "Move your alignment to C1G1 to C1E1 please, as your recent actions have shown your true nature."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Are you talking about the prophecy? The one who is supposed to bring balance to the force?" AKA destroying the jedi order and only leaving a few Jedi to fight a few Sith...balance...good job guys!!

If you wanted to have a "fight duration" stat, just fix it at Str rounds of combat, or 2xStr. Anything past that takes a strength check, just like Con checks to keep running.

Besides that type of skill should be CON based, if it refers to how long you can fight. But that also hurts the players and causes extra DM Tracking.

Actually they can re-design it, as long as the name isn't trademarked ...therefore Paizo could re-design the Samurai, but not a Purple Knight PrC...

While re-designing the generic class, it has to be dissimilar enough to not be a re-print.

My mistake for the studded leather. Indeed it is not allowed for a druid.

In that case the reinforced leather armor is still valid (CA+3, penalty 0, 160gp), being only made of leather, with no metal.

Also, many of the other suggestions posted would not be acceptable, as the original post mentions a limit of 200gp.

What if just the studs were made from Ironwood? That would work I think, and only be slightly more expensive than normal studded, since the studs would be small...

I miss the old days when we have lots an lots of different types of armor.Ringmail and Brigandine, Lamelar, etc.

RIFTS
One of the best post-apocalyptic worlds IMNSHO...the rules are cumbersome...the fluff is great.

Shadowrun
Great near apocalyptic setting. The world has changed, splintered and been transformed, but it's not quite fallen...yet. I think that's where Equinox comes in.

Osirion (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Companion Subscriber)

Doesn't bother me, I can see people coming into my office...

Though the Evony change is pretty lame...

YES! I love the new poison rules! Deadly poison is good!

And I'm VERY happy the DC rises with additional doses...and the duration increases, that's a nice touch also...

So some of the WH novels have to old school feel, that's good to know, I only have the Grey Knights novel, and haven't gotten around to reading it...

I think some class ability substitutions would work for Monk or Bard SDs.

I'd also make a class ability substitution for the Shadows themselves...I'm not a fan of that part...I'm a Shadowjack fan, that's more the flavor I'm looking for.

I personally, don't like the PF rogue. I think they made them even more of a combat class, and I think they are both to powerful in and out of game. When I say out of game, I mean that they mechanically are too easy to step one everyone elses toes, and I don't like that their abilities are near impossible to defend against (its almost all on the attacker, not the defender).

Now they have an autosneak attack in surprize rounds, too?

I like that anyone can find traps. Every group I've played with for years now house rulled that. So that's good that it is finally official.

I like thay in 3.5 a rogue could take feats and PCs to sneak attack undead, constructs, etc. . . But I hate that in PF just any rogue can do it. It takes away the threat that those monster types had, and really unbalances those types of encounter themes. And it makes no sense that a rogue can get in and hurt something that may not even exist and serves no function to a zombie or golem (like a kidney) while no one else can land a lucky blow. At least than it was possible but the rogue had to give up something or go into a specific class to do so. It also usually cut down the sneak attack, as well, which helped mantain party diversity and that some classes are better against some creatures.

I know that rogue is the most popular class, it's just always been way to powerful in all the groups I've played 3E with, and now seems even stronger. And now even way more custimizable. Normally I wouldn't say that is bad, it is just that rogue particularly has always (3Ewise) outclasses all other classes in the shear number of things that you can do with the base class. While that's still debatably valid in all editions, I really think all classes should have a lot more possible options or kits. That's just my opinion, and I know a lot of people here don't agree.

Well you could always auto sneak during the surprise round, now it allows you sneak attack even those that aren't surprised as they seize the moment. (personally I don't like that for my rogues, since it's too situational)

I'm going to link they sneak attack for non-humanoids to be a skill related ability...Knowledge (Religion) to know that smashing the zombies head kills it...

NOW, the rogue doesn't have to make the roll, the Cleric could make the roll and tell the rogue. Anything I can do to have my players feel knowledge skills be worth it, I do.

I have a completely opposite view than you of this. When my players make choices on background, deities, domains, quirks, feats, or skills I try and fold all of that into whatever I run. So if a player of mine chose to be the "trap breaker" rogue, I would continue to use traps as normal or maybe even include a place where there were many traps. Otherwise I would feel like I am just punishing my players for making character choices.

I loved Eberron, I actually got into Eberron while waiting for DDO...

Then DDO didn't live up to Eberron...but we'll see what it's become when it goes Freescription next issue, since I dropped DDO about a year ago now.

I love Golarion, and if someone made a NWN Golarion mod, I would be sorely tempted to finally buy NWN...but with everything going on in my life right now, and ramping up to do CAD outta my house as a second job...I wouldn't have time for it...

Since I'm also working on my art and my R. Scott Tilton Studios Pathfinder Compatible publications...it's a wonder I sleep at all...

(especially since I got Bloodbowl 2 weeks ago...heh..that's been taking up my City of X time.)

I must say though, my rules for my publications are coming around nicely.

Has anyone considered eliminating the Cure: x save(s)?

For instance:

GIANT WASP POISON
Level 4 poison, injury; Save Fortitude DC 18
EFFECTS
Frequency 1 round (4); Effect 1 Dex damage

So once poisoned upon injury from the sting of a giant wasp, the victim would make one Fort save each round for four rounds. Period.

Would make poisons more deadly, or at least more dangerous, for sure.

I'm also wondering if this was done, would it make for simpler adjudicating of multiple doses? You could just tack additional dose durations onto existing durations.

For instance:
A fighter is in combat with a giant wasp and is stung on round one. At this point he'll have to make Fort saves for 4 rounds. On round three, he is stung again. Instead of having one 1 round left, the second sting adds 4 more rounds for a total of 5.

Doing it this way might make for a "back-door" way of making some of the weaker poisons more potent… kind of a way to "advance" a poison, similar to advancing a monster.

This is fine for the low level poisons but would you really want to face Black Lotus extract with no cure option.

Black Lotus Extract
Level 14 poison, contact; Save Fortitude DC 20
Effects
Frequency 1 round (7); Effect 3 Con damage; Cure 1 save

Unless you are a druid or a monk or have a source of neutralize poison available this one is probably fatal nearly 100% of the time. Making 7 DC 20 saves is going to be hard or nearly impossible for most characters.

Doug

Yes, I think that's fine. Poison should be deadly, and Black Lotus Extract should be extremely deadly!

Get ahold of a palladium alignment chart, LE follows Aberrant, CE follows Miscreant and NE follows Diabolic.

When I play an evil character, I tend to play LE, a power hungry bastard that keeps his word, and gives his word as to what will happen if you cross him.

What I so much hate about bloodlines is their inevitable "touch of poop" abilities. Why can't there be some passive ability? A golem bloodline sorcerer could, for example, be in no need of sleep, starting at 1st level.
The logic, I think, was that Jason hates crossbows, and prefers casters to go "Pew! Pew!" instead when they run out of normal spells. I gave the giant bloodline Powerful Build at 1st level to (a) mirror the SRD half-giant, (b) avoid the "touch of poop" syndrome you allude to, but (c) still give them something cool to do in combat. The claws for the dragon bloodline are a similar trade-off. I know people are calling sorcerer melee abilities "traps" after 5th level, and they are... but they're nice to have until then. That's like saying a potion is a "trap" -- anything with a limited shelf life that still helps keep you alive once or twice is better than nothing.

Osirion (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Companion Subscriber)

I only have 2 problems with what you've proposed thus far...

Ashigaru should not be Pathfinder fighters...they were conscripted to fight and given a crash course in very few weapons, Expert or Warrior should be the typical limit of their ability. Using Seven Samurai as an example, the peasants were still effectively untrained, except of course for Kikuchiyo, who while a peasant would clearly qualify as a fighter at least.

I also have a problem with ashigaru having access to katana. The katana was the weapon of the samurai, perhaps just give them access to mass produced no-daichi and wakizashi.

How could string theory invalidate the existence of God? Wouldn't it validate it, since more realities = more chances to actually find the truth of the matter.

Then again God is in the definition is it not?

Is science actually God?

God is everywhere and everything supposedly, that would be energy then? Photons perhaps? Then again there's space between the smallest atoms...so is God a jiffy? Since that is the time it takes to cross a plank?

Or if we live in a matrix, a freethinking AI, in a preprogrammed world, God is the architect?

Can't we all just get along? =D

I had no problem with barbarians and rage points, but the person playing the barbarian looked like they were playing poker...since there were so many and we tracked them with poker chips.

IF dazzling display is unchanged, that combined with howling rage might get a bit broken...like the rogue does dazzling display followed by a terrifying rage of the barbarian...the puny monsters flee in terror at the sight of Fahfrd and the Grey Mouser....or Gotrek and Felix...

Osirion (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Companion Subscriber)

I'm going to use the idea of the Combat reaction, the execution should be different, block is not in my solution, as the concept is sound, but the execution isn't what I envision. I like cinematics, like the ability to use your shield to block you while you step around your opponent, preventing an AoO for moving, binding your opponents weapon (ala Errol Flynn).

So it will just become an option in the combat system I'm developing.
