"Plumie is my bird...my good friend who seems to be missing at the moment," Wren answers Arval, assuming Plume went to find help.

"SQUAWK!!! PLUMIE!! GET HELP!!!!" Wren begins to howl and whine, stunned and shocked by the sudden attack. Plume, her invisible, incorporeal, and non-existent bird companion, fails to go get any help.

Wren looks from new face to new face to see if any can help.

Wren looks around at the party.

"Oh, poor Stitches, I feel so badly that he is sitting alone, probably worried about what happened to him. We should continue on, day or night, with our search," Wren suggests.

"I would want to go explore the town," Wren says as she begins to walk that way.

Wren shuffles over to examine the area where the wraithling stood.

"Oh, Arval, that was some nice swordwork. It reminds me of this one time where...blahblah...two different coconuts...blahblah...and she didn't want to undress...blahblah...half an hour later...blahblah...still undressed...blahblah...and that's why you don't sleep with cabbages."

Wren gives a furious look to the captain, a seething betrayal of his elven calm. He leaves, going back to where the girallon was being held to see what else might be in cargo.

Chains? Cage? Nylon ties? How was it being held? Any food/drugs around?

Wren gathers herself, moving past the bocking battler, and moves into the room. She draws a wand as she moves. Unable to move on map right now, but can move to any square within one of 'Lena.

"Oh poor, dearie. We'll have to put her out of her misery," Wren looks again at the child, this time with much more pity. "Careful now. Don't let this hit you."

Wren activates the wand, pointing it towards the wraith.

Wren nods along with this very simple truth. She seems surprised that it knows that fact. Wren peers deeply at Kawrock.

"Tell me, Kawrock, are you a male or female of your kind?"

Vladlena wrote:

Wren is quick to agree with Vladlena.

"Oh yes, if what Eldon said is true and he singlehandedly slew the two alchemists, then it is unlikely that Stitches, I mean, 'Brodur', created these wraithlings," Wren says, staring again at Kawrock, looking for lips in the beakman's...beak. "Brodur is an alchemical and arcane construction, not one of necromatics."

"No, wraiths can only come from other wraiths here...and there must be a full wraith about. I don't suppose you have seen it yet, have you?" Wren asks, looking to all.

"My suggestion is that we slay this wraithling and any others that we find."

Wren returns Eldon's graceful bow with a nod of her own chickenlike neck. A yellow teethed smile is returned as well as she listens intently.

Eldon Appleton wrote:
"What say you, milady of vibrant colors? I'd be interested to hear a fresh opinion on the matter."

Wren's elven eyes flicker briefly to the hut beyond, her eyes using the little light to seek out the wraithling.

"That is an interesting conundrum, Eldon. I shall ponder upon..." Wren's response is cut off by the Kawrock's shrillings.

Wren's jaw drops as Kawrock speaks.

"It...speaks?" Wren points at Kawrock and then stunningly at the others. "It sounds like it has feelings...too?" Wren takes a moment for this to sink in.

"I had heard rumors of the Birdmen of Tian Xia, but I had not thought they were...sentient," Wren looks again at Kawrock, blinking her eyes. "It's not very bright, is it, Eldon? I guess their brains are very birdlike, are they not? A literal birdbrain! It is fascinating!"

Wren looks again at the rest.

"How dangerous is it? Does it have lips? Or is it like a chicken?" Wren scans Kawrock up and down as she ponders his shrills. Finally, she deigns to see how sentient it is by answering.

Kawrock wrote:
"Did you pluck the poor birds yourself? How many birds have you slaughtered in the name of fashion? How many chicks went cold an hungry? I see no reason to trust this.... this...mother plucker."

Wren looks down at her feathered armor, realizing that it might have a point.

"Oh no, I didn't pluck anything for these. I have spent my life unlocking the natural magicks within feathers. They are my conduit to the arcane world," Wren says slowly, so Kawrock can understand. "My beloved bird, Plumie...I'm sure he's around here somewhere..." Wren looks around for the bird to which she was speaking earlier. "...Plumie gave me most of these. I would clean his nest, you see..."

Wren points to a few feathers mingled into her 'armor'.

"These here are owlbear...I found them in the woods. And a few more are pegasii and peryton. I do love finding exotic feathers..." Wren's eyes glint towards Kawrock's plumage.

Wren approaches a group. Bedecked almost entirely in feathers, Wren's plumage reflects that of a great feathered duster. Her 'armor', seems to be handcrafted flowing garment of woven feathers, full of color and pattern.

"Are you sure this is where I should go, Plumie?" Wren says to the imaginary parrot on her shoulder. Her elven features are etched with worry as she approaches the group in Hergstag.

"This is place I should go? Here, you say, Plumie?" The imaginary bird says nothing, a constant companion to Wren who is used to the woman's imaginations.

Wren straightens up, addressing the assembled menagerie when she gets closer.

"Hello. My name is Wren. I am looking for a tengu named Kawrock, a pair of halflings, a human, and a dwarf," Wren says, mindful of how she looks in her armor of feathers. Her armor is a rainbow of colors: several striations of yellow and red, blue and green, indigos and puces. Several portions seem to be comprised solely of feathers from a parrot.

"Let me explain why I'm here," Wren says, explaining more.

"You see, I was traveling a lot in Ustalav where I discovered people dallying...blah blah blah....demons...blah blah blah...an old rusty pitchfork down to my friend in the University....blah blah blah...under the exact same tunic!! Blah blah....and so I...blah blah blah...'mother, it's my body'...blah blah blah...onions! Like I said, onions!" Wren nods happily as if that explained everything.

"I am a friend of a friend...and know of a certain stitched fellow." Plumie, who does not exist, neither confirms nor denies what she is saying.

Wren quiets down, certain she has adequately explained things, and waits for the group to respond.

GM Spiderbeard:

"Brodur? You mean 'Stitches', don't you?" Wren asks, confused. "The one the outsiders call 'The Beast'? Oh..that poor dearie..." Wren shakes her head sadly, taking another sip of her minty tea.

"Oh, you have halflings on the case? That is good. In my experience, their little noses are good at ferreting things out. And a human, too? They can be helpful, indeed. And a tengu? I have heard that they are...feathered. As long as you don't have any piddlespotting dwarves in the group...they are mostly useless in my opinion. I would like to know how their investigation goes and to see how we can prove Stitches' innocence."

Wren sips her tea again. Her eyes widen at the idea that *she* might be able to defend Stitches in trial.

"Oh, you want me to defend Stitches?! Oh, dearie! I could do that. People do love to hear me talk," Wren says, completely clueless about how little people like to hear her talk.

Wren thinks more, sipping more tea.

"Oh, I'll do this. I'll do this for Stitches. I'll do this for all the misunderstood...oh, my birdies friends are misunderstood as well. Oh yes, dearie, oh yes," Wren seems quite excited.

Wren things again, again sipping her tea.

"First, I'll go apply to be his counselor...then maybe go speak with Stitches? Or should I go to Herstag to meet with your friends? What would you suggest?"

Wren smiles, stepping into the home.

"Oh, thank you, dearie," Wren replies to the human who is likely half her age. "Tea would be lovely. And what a lovely house you have!" Wren states, looking around. She reaches to pet the parrot on her shoulder, but it is not there. She frowns briefly forgetting.

She looks around the parlor, admiring the decor.

"Oh, I do remember my good friend Professor Lorrimor, I do miss him," Wren says. "He taught me so much when I was so lost. He was a good bird, he was."

Wren assents to the confidentiality.

"Oh, of course, dearie, you can trust me with anything," Wren says with complete conviction...forgetting entirely that she is a gossip. Thankfully, very few people choose to willingly talk to her so the gossip only goes as far as her pet bird, Plume...and that bird is gone.

GM Spiderbeard:
Wren clutches the note in her hands, reading it and reading it again.

"Plume! Plumie!! We have to go!" Wren screeches, looking for her parrot, a frantic bustle of packing. "I have a note. From someone! And it's about Stitches!!" Wren hopes that her enthusiam her golem friend induces the bird to come out of hiding.

Sadly, it does not. Plume, Wren's longtime companion does not come. She is alone and has to the meeting alone. This makes her nervous, but she thinks about poor Stitches and the sad way the golem had been treated and makes her way out the door.

She considers going back to the inn to find her avian companion, but instead preens her feathered 'armor' and keeps walking to the meeting site.

She raps thrice on the door with her wand when she arrives, already missing Plume and wondering who sent the note.

Wren offers her biggest yellow smile to whomever opens the door.

Greetings Mortals--

GM Spiderbeard has graciously offered me a chance to RP with you yahoos. I am eager for the chance to play with all you new faces...wait?! WHAT?!

Tural?! (Arval.) I know you.
GM StephNyan?! (Eldon.) I know you too.
Bigrin, too?! (Whiskeyjack.) Oh hecks yes.

And I've known Kawrock for a long long time.

Well, nice to meet you, Vladena. :) I am a fast poster who loves hooks and RP. I appreciate it when others push the action along and I'm not shy about voice my opinions about stuff.

Wren the Feathermage played the first book of CC about 3 years ago; the PbP ended when the GM disappeared midway through Book 2. I've kept Wren mostly the same, just tailored her to the build specs for this game. You can read about her in her alias.

(Tangent: Did you guys have a scene in Ravengro where the townspeople were angry about stuff? And the party had to calm them down? Yeah...Wren spoke there. Good times.)

As a player, I know what's happening, but Wren herself will play along with however GM SB sticks her in. I haven't had a chance to read the last 200 or so posts of this game thread, but will do so later.

-Wren the Feathermage

p.s. Remember, if Wren does things that are weird, embarrassing, or just strange: blame Kawrock. It's totally his fault.

+1 for the new loot formatting. I recognize that all groups account differently and I'm getting acclimated to the form. Usually, I keep a running tally of purchases in the OOC that accounts for stuff. Example.

Yes, Wren had some charges. About 492.5 or so, and I marked them as best I could on the sheet.

I'll start using red font to type in my notes, so it's clear what I have edited. I don't want to screw up the sheet, but also want to minimize confusion.

Just want to put this out there: It's harder for me, as a player, to stay involved and focused as Wren when there are too many delays. Wren doesn't have an active opinion about the treasure...she's already found the feathers and the magic scroll. She's not sure the treasure is worth hauling around if there is no place to spend it.

To be honest, Shorga, Wren has always considered Ursa to be the smarter of you two.

Wren is delighted to head back to camp...she just can't wait to show off her new feathers. She's sure others will be so jealous, but there is nothing she can do about that. Her beauty is a special kind of beauty.

Additionally, Wren is happy to not have lost any of her friends on this trip. Nope, no sirree, no lost gnomes today. It is a dang day of victory: feathers *and* safety.

Back at camp, Wren will flaunt and show her new feathers to all, happily twirling and showing off, so happy is she.

Later that night, during her watch, she will spend some time trying to unlock the magics within the feathers.

Seeing so much energy to go down the hole, Wren declines to get wet and/or dirty and instead volunteers to stay up top with Shorga and keep watch.

"Remember when you used to talk, Shorga? You forgot how, huh, dearie? You've lost your wits on this island. Poor dearie. We'll get you fixed up soon enough."

18 hours and no other volunteers? Sheesh.

Wren will bring the rope up and knot it. She will take 10 to climb down the knotted rope.

Wren will cast light as necessary and has low light vision as well.

Wren helps as much as her weak little elven grandma arms will help, tossing another lit rock down the hole.

"Be careful, Halfsie. Me need you up here."

Wren encourages Shilyn and Travis to break and smash on.

"I'll keep watch out here, dearies."

Wren keeps watch.

"Oh dearie, it looks dangerous down there. Did you want light as you go?" Wren asks with concern.

She picks up a rock, casts Light, and tosses it down the hole.

How far down does it go? And shouldn't we just knot the rope to make it an easy climb check for whomever? (DC5)

Wren climbs out of the hole, not wanting to fall through to anything.

"Should we chop through? I have my dagger..." Wren holds up her claw-like dagger that would be utterly useless for the task.

"Maybe we could burn through it? Or I could research a spell to summon 1000s of woodpeckers to beak through it? Yes, that would be keen too."

Wren looks at Shorga to see if he has a solution.

Wren jots down the names of the ships and their general location (along with the others they've discovered) in her notes, using a long feather pen. She coos happily as she does such.

"Travis, dearie, what did you say the name of that last one was?" Wren records it as cleanly as she can. "Finding them like this is so much nicer than dropping into them, isn't it? Now, the question that comes to mind is how come there are so many crashed boats here? And if we can assume that there will be some survivors from each wreck, does it not stand to reason that they might still be someplace on this island? Where have they gone, Travis? Hmm?!"

Wren looks expectantly at Travis for an answer...whether idle speculation or reasoned hypothesis.

In general, Wren is in good spirits as she explores the island, happy to be around such lush greenery and wildlife, especially the birds. Among them, she is home.

When the party reaches the area of the treasure map, Wren smiles and coos excitedly, petting and talking to Shilyn.

"Ooh! Shilyn, this is exciting isn't it? It reminds me when...blahblahblah...two cannibals...blahblahblah...something tastes funny..blahblahblah...atop the hill overlooking the nudist..blahblahblah...and two of the largest balls..blahblahblah...twine and fur..blahblahblah...and so, we had to leave quickly."

Wren coos excitedly at Travis's find, cawing and clapping with delight.

When Travis is finished showing the items around, she asks to see the locket and dagger, for her raven-esqu curiosity is too much for her to wait much longer.

She casts Detect Magic while waving a feather over the items, examining the auras (if any on the locket).

"So...you say that those would help Jask, Travis? That is excellent news!," Wren says, removing her backpack and taking out her waterproof bag. "You should put them in here so they will be safe." Wren opens the bag for Travis.

Finding little else of interest, Wren is happy to move on.
