in the description of animal companions it says

SRD wrote:
Animal companions with an Intelligence of 3 or higher can select any feat they are physically capable of using. GMs might expand this list to include feats from other sources

my question is ... do animal companions ignore racial requirements on feats ...

e.g. Badger taking amplify rage (Orc, Half-Orc requirement)

Andoran **

Running a scenario on wednesday that has an automatic reset incendiary cloud trap that SHOULD trigger 5 times before the PC's can get out

that description alonw should tell some of you what this is

Im looking at this and the math gets kind of staggering

1st trigger - 6d6 damage

2nd trigger - 6d6 damage +6d6 damage(Duration)

3rd Trigger - 6d6 damage +12d6 damage(Duration)

4th Triger - 6d6 damage +18d6 damage(Duration)

5th Trigger - 6d6 damage +24d6 damage(Duration)

reflex save for 1/2

am I looking at this right ... or do multiple cloud spells in the same area not stack and if so ... what page # is that on

Andoran

so I have a character that got the ban hammer back in August ... and its been collecting dust for a while .... I still havent played it so I have rebuild options still

I rebuilt it once and tested it in an non PFS Game ... unfortunatly I really felt like a Dalek (EXTERMINATE !!) so I scrapped the Idea for the most part -----this is currently an 8th level character

during a discussion at Dennys with some friends the following Idea was explored

Barbarian 1
Fighter 1 (because the lvl of fighter was not an effected class I have to keep it
Inquisitor 3
Druid 3+

I know what your thinking ... OMFG this is a mutt !!!

the Idea behind this build is to synergize everything to a druids animal companion as well as Wildshape / rage

the build goes as follows

Berserker of the Society (+3 rounds of rage)

Str 14
Dex 12
Con 16
Int 14
Wis 14
Cha 8

lvl 1 Barbarian(1)
(lvl1)Raging Vitality
(Human) Racial Heritage(Orc)

lvl 2 Fighter(1)
(f1b) power Attack

lvl 3 Druid(1)
(lvl3) Boon Companion,
Nature Bond(badger)

lvl 4 Inquisitor (1)
Travel Domain

lvl 5 Druid (2)
(lvl5)Extra Rage

lvl 6 Inquisitor(2)

lvl 7 Druid(3)
(Lvl7) ?????

lvl 8 Inquisitor(3)
Solo Tactics,
Teamwork Feat(Amplified Rage)

lvl 9 Druid(4)
(lvl9) Shaping Focus

the reason for the badger animal companion is for the amplified rage teamwork feat (with Solo tactics)making Rounds of rage +8 str +10 Con(Raging vitality)

and the Shaping Focus feat is to synergize and boost the Wild shape feature Preliminary math makes-a raging earth elemental
at 9th level +12 str +10 Con
at 11th level +14 str +12 con at 11th

I am fully planning to put the animal companions 4th level stat into inteligence to get it extra rage feat

as well as running with Wild Dragonhide full plate (the pricetag HURTS)

I also know I'll be dealing with a lot of table variation (GM's wont take kindly to earth elementals wielding Nodachi's)

my current issue is
2nd trait
7th level feat
Deity / Domain for inquisitor part (Im really leaning twords travel because of the full plate use)

Im willing to look at stats as well

feel free to toss your feedback at me :-)

Andoran **

so we all know that in order to use a Feat / trait ect from additional resources you must own the book

My question stems from the moving of Boon Companion from Seeker of Secrets to the Animal Archive

as I have yet to get my hands on the Animal Archive I must rely on the SRD for definitions ect.

the Wording between the 2 books is Minuscule

Seeker of Secrets - "to a maximum Bonus equal to your character level"

Animal Archive (Via SRD) - "to a maximum effective druid level equal to your character level"

I understand that nothing in Archive is legal for PFS until this coming week...

I also well understand that the most recent printing of a feat, trait ect. supersedes the previous but for those of us who may have bought seeker just for boon companion suddenly those peoples cost raises by 1/3rd for something they already had that was legal

my question is if we already own Seeker of Secrets ... will ownership of this book suffice for legality to use Boon Companion ?

Andoran **

so I remember somewhere where it was said that when rebuilding a 1st level character you could rebuild into a race boon ...

my question is .. can you rebuild into the boon granted by completing the retirement Arc

Andoran **

ok ... I started running my group through this today .. and my question is based on one of the contingency plans included in the Scenario

1st - the Group was able to Capture the Red Raven (Tremor sense / Earth Glide / Blessing of Fervor / Huge and trip= OP)

now in the Scenario there is a Line about his Cape being Retained as Treasure if he is captured or Killed ... but it does not show up on the chronicle Sheet

my question is ... how do we as GM's of this scenario handle his Cape ... is it just hand waved or what ?

Andoran

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

a friend of mine pointed out to me something about acrobatics and its raised some questions in my Mind

the way that Acrobatics is Worded is when using it to move through a threatened square you move at 1/2 speed

By RAW Acrobatics is not a move action ... its a mode of movement and seems to support moving normally ...and making the acrobatics squares as 1/2 movement

SRD wrote:
In addition, you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics. When moving in this way, you move at half speed. You can move at full speed by increasing the DC of the check by 10. You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes. You can use Acrobatics in this way while prone, but doing so requires a full-round action to move 5 feet, and the DC is increased by 5. If you attempt to move through an enemy’s space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity.

whats your thoughts ?

Andoran **

so .. Im prepping this for next week ... and I ran into something

the group I'll be Prepping this for contains a paladin of Iomondae - Cheliax Faction

at one point ...

spoiler:
the Chelaxian is to read a manuscript that summons an Ice devil

now due to RP this character has remained ignorant as possible (even including excuses as to mispronouncing Asmodeous's name)--(dont ask)

my question ... this event ... beyond the RP aspects of it ... should I require him to take an atonement spell if he chooses to go through with this ? reading the faction mission its not obvious (but its highly hinted at) whats going to happen

Andoran **

so a thought Crossed my mind ... and Im not sure if its ever been asked

this is not a situation that I am currently looking at .. just a general question

for the sake of argument Lets say you GM a 7-11 and your highest character is a 3

procedure says ...
assign the character# you wish to apply credit to when you report the scenario
hold the credit till your character is of level (in this case 7) to be able to receive the credit

now

lets say that through a series of unfortunate events the Character Dies a few times ... expends Prestige / Boons / Favors / money and has nothing left ... and dies again ... no way to bring him back ... (I am ignoring surviving PC's pitching in to help res for a reason)

what happens to that held credit ... is it wasted ... applied to a new # ?

Im more curious than anything if this has ever come up before and if so what was the answer

Andoran **

had a question about the following statment

PFSGtOP wrote:
If you play a non-1st-level pregenerated character, you can apply the credit to your character as soon as she reaches the level of the pregenerated character played

fair enough ... I play a 4th lvl Pregen playing in a 6-7 subtier as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with doing that but how does the GM whos examining my chronicles know ... especially if there is a date discrepancy (played 2 months before the chronicle before it)... is the GM of the scenario supposed to make Note on the sheet ? (e.g. lvl 4 Kyra was played) or is this an "honor system" type thing ....

I recently played a lvl 4 kyra in a 6-7 Devil May know Pt. 2 and this just struck me

Andoran **

I was having a discussion with someone today about some players I know that have some VERY Complicated builds

the conversation had taken a turn to understanding the builds as a GM and Convention settings

as far as I am aware if the player owns the Additional resources in question... offers explanation to the GM of the feats / Items ect used in a timely fashion . the player is well within his power and rights to use them ... regardless of comprehension

the person I was discussing this with seemed to not agree and said that if he didn't understand it and the event organizer didnt understand it the player is getting a pregen

it was my understanding that campaign rules were Written in stone and could not be altered by players or GM's

I know I would hate going to a Convention having a character that I had $50+ in Additional Resource Material (physical books) and have a GM inspect the character then not understand my build before the table started ...and hand me a Pregen

so the bottom Line ... if a build is so complicated that a GM has a hard time understanding it ... but is legal in every way(owning additional resources/ calculations are accurate ect.) .. does that give the GM the right to tell the player "no here's a Pregen" ?

Andoran **

1 person marked this as a favorite.

so I have a character that is only going to be able to play First steps Part 2 (which I played today)

Upon Looking at the chronicle I noticed that the GM did not record Prestige / Fame ...

I know the feelings of the Community on how this should be handled and know how I would handle it

I am looking for some official Binding Comment on how First steps is handled from Either Mike or Mark so that we can put it into the Forum Binding Topic

if you

A play them out of order,
or
B don't play all of them (part 3 Specifically)

I know getting them to respond is sometimes difficult but on this one, as often as this comes up, I believe its needed

Andoran **

I'm assuming that the answer is no but never hurts to ask

Additional resources wrote:

Additional Resources wrote:
In Chapter 2, nothing from the catfolk, drow, hobgoblins, kobolds, orcs, and ratfolk entries are currently legal for play.

fairly straight forward

and I just wanted to make sure that the magic items listed with catfolk, drow, hobgoblins, kobolds, orcs, and ratfolk fall under "their entries"

have a character Im looking at .. and while it doesn't hinge on anything from there the Rending Claw blades from pg 95 in catfolk would be a very nice addition

Andoran **

today at my FLGS we had an interesting situation come up and I dont know what to tell the player in question

during Pneumbral accords (table of 4) 1 character died ... 1 escaped ... and 1 was a question Mark (dunno about the 4th one)

the question mark was unconscious at -9 HP while the survivor hid (and remained undetected throughout the night)

come morning the survivor escaped .... while the character at -9 was branded (therefore going to be a slave in the shadow plane)

the easy answer would be if the character was Andoran (which hes not) since andoran can spend prestige to be broken out of slavery

the question is ... what do I tell this player ... is his character dead ?... or is there a way to rescue him from the slavery

I know the 5 PA rescue mission to retrieve ones Body is in the Guide to OP but the character is technically not dead

edit - character stableized at -9

Andoran **

planning to start running this on wednesday ... and in my prep I saw mention of Cheating ... but cheating was never defined (i.e what they consider cheating)

anyone have any Ideas on what the tourney officials deem as "Cheating"

Andoran **

so I had a friend of mine bring this up and its a very interesting question and AFAIK its not been brought up (Could be wrong)

his question had to do with the Idea of going to PaizoCon next year

he keeps track f his character on Google Drive along with monetary expenditures / PA Expenditures and the like

his question was what I would think if he chose to Scan / photograph all of his chronicles add them into a slideshow and attach them to a particular character via Google Drive

he had some very good points ... it makes you much more mobile (Smartphone / Ipad / Android Tablet and a bag of Dice)

I suggested he post about it ... but Im awake and bored so I figured Id post it since its a Very interesting option

Andoran

so Im looking into making a bard for PFS

and Im trying to figure out the top end of bonus's I can grant to my allies

thus far Im up to +6 att/dam with a 1 time boost to +8 (note this is allies ... not myself

if I UMD Prayer I can hit +7's

the calculations are done up to 9th level - again Im looking for top end

just to break it down

Flagbearer +1 Morale(Banner of Ancient Kings makes it +2)

Inspire Courage +2 Competance (+4 between Banner and aasimar Favored Class level boosts)

again this needs to be PFS legal so no Warpaint / Master Performer / Grand master Performer

if anyone can come up with some other things Im missing ... please let me know

I know about Lotus Geisha just not sure about loosing Bardic knowledge

Andoran **

getting ready to run either this or Curse of the Riven Sky to Normalize my regular group for Eot10 and ran into something and not sure if this has been brought up but

Additional resources:
Other: Unless prompted in a scenario or granted by a Chronicle, the rules for duels, performance combat, and siege engines, and all variant rules in Chapter 5 are not used in Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

now looking at the Ruby Phoenix chronicle

Chronicle:
If you used the optional performance combat rules when playing the adventure

is it a choice whether to use the performance rules or not ?

yesterday one of the tables at my games day was playing 3-21 and ran out of time ... they were most of the way through the 2nd to last fight (See Guards) and still had BBeG to deal with ... the table GM asked me how to deal with this ... I know he itemizes the gold ... and if the PC's have compleeted their faction specific mission they get those ... the question came to the XP ... 0 or 1 ?

Andoran **

my Search Foo is weak and Im fairly certain this is still a no but figured Id check if there had been something official yet (for Good or Ill)

GM'ing a scenario ... does the GM have the ability to scribe spells that appear during the adventure in either scroll form or Spellbook form

Andoran **

so in the additional resources it states that

Additional resources wrote:

All weapon special abilities on pages 134–149, except unholy, are legal for play.

my question is what if it appears on a chronicle Sheet

:
2-25 You Only Die Twice

Andoran **

so I ran a game today in which my group decided to play up in a 3-7

the Scenario they ran was #3-6 Song of the Sea Witch

during the 1st encounter - due to a combination of Terrible Rolling on the players part ... and my Dice were hot .. the players made the decision to Run away ... tell Amara Li that they could not succeed and gave up on the scenario

I'm curious on how to handle that, while I know they gain 0 Gold and 0 PA ... what about the experience ... do they get 1 or 0 for that ...

Again this was the 1st encounter in the scenario and it would have TPK'd them but due to the circumstances they were able to get away without everyone dying

Cheliax **

so - I have a 6th lvl Undead Lord of Urgathoa / 1st lvl Fighter

and recenty after looking deeply into the guide and the forum I was able to confirm that I need Onyx listed on my Character Sheet in order to cast the spell

the question ... is how much on each Gem, and I am looking for suggestions

my initial thought was a 250(10HD) a 500(20 HD) a 750(30 HD) and a 1000(40 HD)

and yes at my current level with desecrate I can animate 40 HD worth of undead

whats your guys suggestions

Andoran **

any Idea what time frame this will be released ?

Andoran **

Unfortunatly .. due to lack of planning and time I will not be able to attend this year ... tho I DO plan to attend next year, I was just looking at the schedule for 2012 and noticed that Blood Under Absalom was not listed

are the specials not offered at PaizoCon ? or is this an oversight ?

just curious

Andoran

Claw—contact (curse); save Fort DC

is how this ability is formatted .... I am assuming that that means the curse can only be transmitted via claw

I'll be running something where a critter has this and the group has a habit of Grappling so I just want to be sure

Andoran **

so there is a plan to start playing a sanctioned module tomorrow in my normal group and I have a question about Timing

we know that sanctioned modules are designed to take place over roughly 3x - 4hour sessions, and that these can be broken up into multiple weeks

so my question is ...

if a character starts playing a sanctioned module are they allowed to take their character to another game while the sanctioned module is in progress, or is their character effectively "Locked" until the sanctioned module is done

Are GM's limited the same or are they fine as long as the character they are applying GM credit to doesnt break tier

Andoran **

I Live in Utah County .. Roughly 40 Miles South of Salt Lake City, my question is what Cons are out there on this side of the states ... I know California has a bunch .. and then theres PaizoCon Both of those are sorta outa my reach,

Im looking for things in :
Western Colorado
Southern Idaho
Eastern Nevada / Vegas
South-Western Wyoming
or anything in Utah Other than Conduit (fairly certain thats the only one there is in the state)

Andoran **

asked this in another thread and I think it got overlooked which is cool

so I'm planning to run a special at a games day in the Near future and I had a question about reporting it

due to the non standard reporting of it I was wondering how to do it

the standard tables are straight forward ... but what about the overseer ... since this is a 1st time for me I have to ask about how that part is handled ...

is it already "accounted for" in the reporting area ... or is there some special thing that needs to be done s that the overseer gets credit for GM'ing it

Andoran

Lemme know what you think ... and what advice you'd give

Andoran **

so I have a games day that I organize and run on fridays at my local game store ... I am expanding this in steps

my second step is for 1 month from now offering year of the shadow lodge and seeing how that goes

my 3rd step is the possibility of attempting to host a Convention at the games store ... this is of course a consideration ATM and 5-6 months out .. at minimum (as myself and only 1 other person are in the loop on the Idea ATM) and it hinges on a lot of things ... one of which being how successful will year of the Shadow lodge be

My question ... is if this becomes a reality ... how do I do it ... what are my time frames, I know there are other questions I have not asked and am probably missing.

I know the easiest way to do this would be to go through a VC or VL but we currently do not have any in the state

any kind of advice / answers would be nice

also theres a way to maake a store "Official" and for them to be able to get a free scenario a week ... the games store I HQ at is interested ... but he cant find the info ... and I keep forgetting to ask

Andoran **

ok ... dont kill me for starting yet ANOTHER one of these this is a question based on a lot of things that Ive seen

I understand ... that the racial boons are Con Draw only (I can Deal)

now the clarification I am asking about ... is this restricted to Gencon / PaizoCon ? or is this any Con with more than 15 tables planned ?

and yes there is a reason I am asking and its more than an Idol question

Andoran **

While I realize that this is for Magic Item Creation I was curious if this was legal in PFS

CRB wrote:
If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5.

the cost is almost PFS Prohibitive tho for some Items it might actually be worth it

basically just pay for the extra Item + 50%

E.g. Phylactery of Channeling energy (11,000).. and a + Headband of Inspired Wisdom(4,000 + 50%)

Andoran **

Friend of mine pointed me to this PRC ... I have a character concept Im working on that would benifit ... I see that its listed as being in Adventure path #2(which is not PFS legal) Im just making sure that Im not missing something ... and a reprint somewhere that makes it legal

if you have some insight on this ... assistance is welcome

thanks

Andoran **

Just curious how one goes about becoming a Venture-Lieutenant

the information to become a captain is plain ... but nothing about becoming a Lieutenant

Andoran **

planning to set up a Weekly Game day in Pleasent Grove Utah at Blackfyre games

1st couple of weeks we're planning to gauge interest .. Running some "Soft mods"

Fridays 3:30pm MST ... starting May 11th

May 11th were looking at running 2 tables of We Be Goblins ...

with the possibility of a Season 0 scenario for more experienced players ... stay tuned to the event Schedualing for more information on the weeks to come

Andoran **

being a 1st time GM I was prepping an adventure and ran across something Odd

there was an NPC who had a Spellbook "Containing all prepared spells + 6 others and all cantrips"

while on the Chronicle it only lists 3 scrolls (these were prepared by the NPC)

I assuming the way to handle this is if there is an Arcane book user they can copy spells as per the FAQ ?

Andoran **

I'm not ready to start making waves just yet,

but at what point should one look at alerting management to the lack of action by a Regional coordinator ?

again Im not ready to Make waves or name names ... just looking to get an Idea on the subject

Andoran

I've been noticing some issues with reporting lately,
I Spoke with the GM who Ran the 1st mod in question and was told "it isnt showing up for anyone" ...

the Mod in question was "Crypt of the everflame"

I have not asked about the 2nd scenario "Edge of Heaven" since that was a different GM and I would like to give that one a few more days before I start asking questions

anyone else having issues ?

or advice ?

Andoran

so I'm setting up an Undead Lord of Urgathoa and came across a question regarding the Trait Deathspeaker

Pathfinder SRD wrote:

Deathspeaker

Your have experience in dealing with undead.
Benefit: Your experience gives you a +2 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks when dealing with undead, as well as a +2 trait bonus on Charisma checks made to influence undead (for example, as part of the command undead spell).

and how it interacts with this

Pathfinder SRD wrote:

Command Undead

Using foul powers of necromancy, you can command undead creatures, making them into your servants.

Prerequisites: Channel negative energy class feature.

Benefit: As a standard action, you can use one of your uses of channel negative energy to enslave undead within 30 feet. Undead receive a Will save to negate the effect. The DC for this Will save is equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Charisma modifier. Undead that fail their saves fall under your control, obeying your commands to the best of their ability, as if under the effects of control undead. Intelligent undead receive a new saving throw each day to resist your command. You can control any number of undead, so long as their total Hit Dice do not exceed your cleric level. If you use channel energy in this way, it has no other effect (it does not heal or harm nearby creatures). If an undead creature is under the control of another creature, you must make an opposed Charisma check whenever your orders conflict.

now at 1st glance I was like oh hey thats cool +2 to my use of the Feat and the spells when I get there... and the more Ive thougth about it the less Certain Ive become .... some Key Lines from the Feat are

as if under the effects of control undead

If an undead creature is under the control of another creature, you must make an opposed Charisma check whenever your orders conflict.

but Im still not convinced ... since the feat says the Undead Make a Save with the DC being 10+ 1/2 cleric Level + Cha Mod.... Im just not sure thats gonna count as a charisma check (but some of the rest of the trait covers that)

whats your thoughts on it

Andoran **

Guide to Pathfinder Organized Play wrote:

Permanent bonuses from equipment, feats, racial

bonuses such as those granted by spell effects do not
contribute, as the duration over which the Day Job check

nor can you aid another.

so that is nice and Solid ... so we know that MW Tools ect. apply to craft

my question comes from some other gear specifically related to Sleight of hand (yes I know I need thieves Guild)

Like ---

Clothing, Scarf, Pocketed
Jewelry, false
Wrist Sheath

they list as Permenant Bonus's (which would cover the criteria listed in the guide above) but they are situational ...

My Gut Says that "No they could not be used as such"

But at the same time the RAW Seems to support it ... maybe not the RIA I have searched and searched for some extra clarification on this but Im not finding it

if anyone has a source with something Solid ... please lemme know

Andoran

so Ive been working on this for a PFS Game and wanted some feedback / opinions on the build

this build focus's on the whip and its utility

Elf

Str 10
Dex 18
Con 12
Int 18
Wis 9
Cha 7

Traits: Prehensile Whip
Traits:

Fighter (Lore Warden)
Magus (Kensai)

Im leaving in class features (feats) gained and at what level for feat tracking purposes as well as fighter training

(1)Fighter(1) +1 (L1) Equipment trick (Rope), (Fighter)Weapon finesse
(2)Fighter(2) +2 (Fighter)Improved Trip,(Bravery Sub Lore Warden)Combat expertise
(3)Magus(1) +2 (Kensai)EWP Whip,(Kensai)WF Whip,(L3)Whip Mastery,
(4)Magus(2) +3
(5)Magus(3) +4 (Magus Arcana)Close Range Arcana
(6)Magus(4) +5 (L6)Improved Whip Mastery,
(7)Magus(5) +5 (Bonus Feat)
(8)Magus(6) +6 (Magus Arcana)
(9)Magus(7) +7 (L9)weapon specalization whip, Fighter training,
(10)Magus(8) +8
(11)Magus(9) +8
(12)Magus(10) +9 (L12)Greater Whip Mastery

2nd Trait is undecided
Bonus feat at 7 is undecided as well because it provides some wiggle room
Magus Arcana at 8 is undecided because I want the character to work before I go there

plans are Mithril shirt since Canny defense will work with Light armor and the 10% ASF can be overcome at 7th lvl by Arcane armor if needed (Wiggle room from the bonus feat)

Agile Enchantmeent for the whip at the earliest possible point is a must for this build

also I am avoiding the scorpion whip due to the intense table variation that I see and the lack of Dev Clarification on how it works (unless there has been something solid said)

I realize that the 1st 2 levels are not going to fall in line with the Idea of the whip and plan to use the ECB as my weapon to get through those levels
