Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Yep, we unleashed them a little early. Element of surprise and all that. :)

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Looking good on this Kickstarter, 8 hours left. And yeah, short stories, GM screen, lots of extras. Great deal, folks, get in before it closes out!

It needs to hit $15K to turn into a Boxed Set, and that would be completely awesome.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Wow, I don't know what to tell you, Galnörag. I know some screenshots went to Adam but I don't have them (and I have asked him to forward them).

The PDF seems to work for some OSX configurations, and I'm just not enough of an expert to troubleshoot the particular display bug you see. It could be an OSX issue, a PDF issue, or a configuration I just don't know. The delights of electronic publishing. :(

Foghammer, thank you for the review!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Right. That was resolved as "won't fix", because the error is in the OSx Preview. As I understand it, I'm unable to fix it without changing the Apple codebase.

Recommendation: Use Goodreader rather than Preview.

Sorry not to have a better solution, but it's the best I can do with the tools I have. It might be worth submitting a bug report to Apple, might not.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you Foghammer!

Galnörag, as far as I could test it, this book has worked on iOS devices from day 1, though the choice of reader matters (GoodReader seems preferred). I haven't heard anything one way or the other for OSx, but of course we'd love to fix it if there's a problem.

Can anyone tell me what the OSx display issue is, or (even better) provide a screenshot?

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Should be first week of June. Judges are discussing the options now, and we should have finalists soon!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Should have mentioned it sooner: Mr. Pett provides 50 Strange Timepieces on the KQ blog, continuing the Whispering Homunculus legacy of strange and whimsical things to bring to your next game.

I await the "20 Strange Tauren, Er, Minotaurs" entry with interest.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I don't have a HeroLab data set in hand. When I get one, I will absolutely share it with everyone who picked up the PDF.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Hm, good point. I really don't know what an album or a single mp3 would cost to compose and perform. But yeah, might be a great stretch goal!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Yeah, I'm mostly sure it won't hit that level. But then, I thought that about the last couple of stretch goals as well.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Uhhhhh. Wow, I dunno.

If we hit $30K, I will definitely have a major announcement, but I have to run the numbers first.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

4 hours left. Composers are emailing me on Kickstarter offering to compose the score.... Uh guys? This is a tabletop game, not an app! :)

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you, Chris! I have to agree, there's a lot of great stuff happening in this project already.

And we're just $44 short of the final stretch goal.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Less than 9 hours left, $750 to go. Thank you to all the backers!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Yep, down the last 16 hours, and people are still piling in. The hardcover is a limited-edition book, available only to the Kickstarter backers.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

NybbleMe, yes, the Roc should be on the list. The omission is an error.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I'm very happy to be put to work on The Raven's Call, and I have some ideas that I think will pleasantly surprise the backers.

And I think some of it will be ruthlessly plundered by anyone running the Linnorm Kings....

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Rampant speculation is much more fun. But yes, I think the series will have a great second installment.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thanks for the suggestions! I think we'll see at least one of those happen this year.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you Ravenmantle!

To possibly win over a few additional backers, there's one last surprise for this project: Paizo author and Tales of the Margreve designer Tim Connors has accepted an invitation to pitch an adventure for this collection.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I'm honored to say that Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens is a backer for this project.

The Open Design crew will definitely be raising the bar on the book!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you! And now, of course, one of the Legends seats has opened up. Watched pot and all that.

Also, we're closing in on the next goal, which would net the backers a book of "you see this" art to show off to players. I always find handouts helpful, and art especially. Heck, in Ye Olde Days I kept a file of magazine pictures that could inspire adventures.

I would love your support. Project details linkified

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

This book has legs--because it hit #3 on the Paizo sales chart for last week after being out for a month.

Congrats, Adam! Staying on top of the chart is a sign of great word of mouth, and this book's got it.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

KTFish7, if you have finished the Hero Lab files, please send them my way. I'll make sure that everyone who buys the PDF gets a copy of the data files as well.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Marc, I'm not sure how you feel about it. ;)

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Hey Marc, what do you think about renaming this class the Strider?

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

A belated "Thank you, Liz!"

While we're talking about it, the Robot Viking review came out today. The key three words for me: "pretty damn awesome".

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Yep, the best way to get an answer to a KQ question is the subscription email. Give Shelly a shout!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Worth adding to Joseph's comment: If you don't want to participate in the behind-the-scenes elements, the first couple rewards are just the basic PDF support or the PDF and a pile of extra goodies.

Also, we're about $250 away from adding another 32 pages to this project, making it a 192-page book, plus a 32-page supplement and a great set of 1" scale battlemaps.

The deal keeps getting better, but only for 12 more days. No matter when you sign up, if the project hits the next goal, you get the extra materials.

EDIT TO ADD: I do want to sweeten the $150 deal a bit. If you have ideas (character naming, your face used for art reference in an illustration, something else), let me know what you'd like to see!

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

If there's ever a second-edition Pathfinder RPG (many years from now!), I sincerely hope they do consider a spell-less ranger or similar Woodland Strider sort of class.

Now that I think on it, Strider would have been a much shorter and perhaps better name for it. Hindsight, bah.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

We're about $1,000 away from going from a 192-page project plus full battlemaps to a 224-page project plus full battlemaps.

And yes, with several Paizo regular freelancers participating, it is going to be insanely great.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you! We're getting closer and closer to that next tier where we add another 32 pages to the book.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

It's been interesting to watch the reaction to Nick's involvement. I have some high hopes for his adventure, and Richard Pett's as well.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Nightflier and Foghammer, thank you for those kinds words! We'll keep pushing to make every release great.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

One other option in this glorious techno-future we live in: print on demand gets you a copy from DriveThru or RPGNow. Worth a shot.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

When the authors are David "Zeb" Cook, Tim & Eileen Connors, and the amazing Steve Winter, it's hard for them not to load it up with great ideas.

I think I like Winter's piece on the hows & whys of monotheism in RPGs best, but from a practical perspective, Connors and Cook both deliver really playable ideas for any fantasy game.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Um, wow, this book has been reviewed by the San Francisco Review of Books.

San Franscisco Review of Books wrote:
Game designers and those just curious about the process will all surely find something within these pages to capture their attention and imagination. Some of the articles are a little technical and hard to understand, but most are very accessible for even the most novice gamer. Highly recommended for gaming nerds everywhere.

Vic, can we get that added to the product listing? It's rare to get noticed outside the gaming circles (though if anyplace has a strong games press, it's SF).

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Huzzah! Can't wait to see the adventure.

And let's talk Thursday at PaizoCon, definitely.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Thank you for the review, Endzeitgeist!

And yes, Watcher, it was the work of many hands but hey, it takes a village to write a Bestiary. I'm thrilled with how well this one turned out, and heartbroken that Daigle won't be able to lead the next one.

Hey, Watcher, I have this idea...

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Expanded Spell-Less Ranger is going well. The New Paths series will definitely continue!

That said, expanding the archer, shaman, and white necromancer could take the rest of 2012, which means a print book would appear at earliest in 2013. This isn't a series I want to rush.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Seldriss wrote:
Will this book come also in printed format or only in PDF?

Seldriss, this is a PDF-only release. At 15 pages, it just doesn't work in print.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I leave the firearms question to Marc.

However, I wanted to know who to blame/credit for designing the ranger i the first place, and I remembered it first appeared in Dragon Magazine (well, actually, the Strategic Review). The original designer is Joe Fisher. Details here at Grognardia.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Subscriptions are important.

::whistles innocently::

Seriously, thank you for sharing this slice of history. It's always interesting to see behind the scenes, and yeah, the publishing business is never for the faint of heart. Thank you all for toughing it out through the lean times, Paizonians.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I could not possibly comment on the template issue.

Maybe Adam Daigle or Wes Schneider will spill the beans, but I would not count on it.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

There is definitely some crunch in this book, though a lot of the emphasis is history and adventure hooks. I wrote a new Thassilonian monster for it, for instance.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

This Homunculus thing has gotten totally out of control.

(Also, you might win 1000 ducats.)

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

The editor on this was quite sharp, I think, but more eyes are always good at the proofing stage.

NybbleMe, if you want to submit an application for editing, I am currently looking for a freelancer. Send me your proofing catches on this one, and a list of credits.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Nightflier, that is great feedback, thank you.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

I can't believe I'm considering this, but I need to talk to Jeff Grubb about Tinker Gnomes.
