Further goodies for sword mage types are available in the Maegriel's Manual posts (1st one is up, another next week) at Kobold Quarterly.com.

Monte tweeted about the article recently, and it has been getting a lot of favorable attention lately.

Have just completed a review of the Open Design's Iron Gazetteer on my blogsite. This is by the same folks that do Kobold Quarterly and is a great resource for Dwarf Characters and for DMs wanting to add Dwarf material to a campaign.

Thanks for the review! The gazetteer can be found right here on the Paizo site.

Sanity/Madness Rules for Fantasy
Qadira Wolfgang Baur (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly),

Good critique, and some of the same issues did come up in the multiple playtests the article went through before publication.

FWIW, yes, it was originally a 4E article, and some of that is retained in the free conversion on the site.

OTOH, it's a freebie for Pathfinder fans to use, adapt, ignore, or embrace as you like. If there's no comments to the author on KQ.com saying "Thanks!", the odds of future free Pathfinder content do go decline. It's just human nature not to put effort into things that don't provide even a social reward.

So, if anyone enjoyed it or would like to see more free Pathfinder material, please do give Scott a thumbs up on KoboldQuarterly.com. Just sayin.

Sanity/Madness Rules for Fantasy

Kobold Quarterly has posted some variant rules for sanity/madness, using a Mind score and different forms of temporary and lingering madness.

It's a freebie written by Scott Gable.

Linkie. Part 2 goes live tomorrow.

Thoughts?

Glad you like it, Zylphryx!

Yep, the sanity rules will be translated to Pathfinder and published for free on KQ.com this week. I hope that Adam and friends do more Pathfinder or 3.5 content for a future issue.

James, thanks for the feedback!

I'm surprised to see you say it is a "lot" of 4E content. By my count, KQ#11 offers 14 articles (not counting reviews, letters, etc), and only 3 of those are 4E-only articles. One of those 4E articles will given the Pathfinder rule treatment this week on KQ.com. So, 2 of 14 doesn't seem like a lot.

On the other hand, several articles are dual-statted, so maybe that leads to the impression.

In any case, you'll see more Pathfinder-specific content next issue. The game is still new enough that freelancers are getting their queries sharpened up, so there's a lag.

Qadira Wolfgang Baur (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly),

KQ12 is already in editing. Given the time it would take for someone to write the Baba Yaga adventure even as a 32-page adventure, we're talking more like KQ14.

But you know, I'm having lunch with James next week and maybe we'll swear a blood oath of some kind. Ideally involving some chicken bones.

See, but I'm editing this magazine and writing this demonic fey adventure at the moment, plus some Paizo material....

I will tentatively put it on the calendar for 2010, but like James, I'm overbooked.

Qadira Wolfgang Baur (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly),

I swear, if Jacobs does not seize the day, Open Design might. After all, Baba Yaga is now canon for the Zobeck setting....

And she fits right in with the Northern/Germanic/Slavic tone of the setting! Hm....

Uh, we print plenty to go around to the game stores; we do not underprint demand. Your FLGS can order from IPR or Alliance and get it whenever they want, just like Endgame does.

Or you can order it here at Paizo, if they refuse to carry it.

Darn roommate, they oughta get their own copy! :)

The subscriber download is the usual one, direct from the KQ Store. Log in with your email address and password, click "My Account" at the top of the page, and you should see the subscription listed under Previous Orders. Click View and download your current issue.

Lou, curious to hear your review of it here or elsewhere.

Aberzombie, I know it's impossible to please everyone, so we're just continuing to print the best material we get. Some of it is 4E, of course, but I'm happy how quickly Pathfinder has been embraced by the writers.

Qadira Wolfgang Baur (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly),

Yep, the tracking sheet is part of the PDF for the issue, but it is not printed in the paper version (because we ran out of room).

However, it will go up on the KQ.com site in a week or two. Whenever the schedule of other free content permits, basically.

Apparently there's podcasters who love it as well, at Happy Jack's.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more discussion of the new Pathfinder ranger variant here, though. Worth doing those in future? Or would people rather have more Pathfinder articles like the Torture one by Hank Woon?

I know Tome of Secrets and some others have done classes, so.... Just wondering.

The letters section in #11 made it sound to me like Wolfgang is getting plenty of queries for PFRPG and OGL material.

I am, but I think it's fair to note that the big upswing in Pathfinder queries has been accompanied by a (perhaps not surprising) downswing in OGL queries.

I can't print articles that aren't written and submitted, so if you have been sitting on an OGL query, now's a great time to put it together and send it the kobold mines.

Dario Nardi's Artificer

And probably Monte Cook's best "Game Theories" column to date. So.....Thoughts? Favorites? Traps and diagrams for future installments?

Sometimes, the Shadow power source is strong. Other times, not so much.

We've bumped up to 93%, but need a couple more people to make this fly. Illusions, shadow demons, creepy Shadowfell locales and a lot of things to make a party of brash heroes think twice.

I love this adventure; hope some of you join us in designing it.

Ok, Kobold World Enterprises is in on the dice idea. Only downside: candy made by kobolds.... Probably not going to pass the health inspection.

I always love hearing from Ed, but I gotta say, having new talent like Stefen Styrsky speak up is also great. He's only been a round a year or so, but already has a string of credits.

I dunno, I think it's good that people can still break into the industry.

This project actually offers something that others haven't in the same way: your patronage includes the print edition, as published by Paizo.

For most Open Design projects, that's been optional.

Sunken Towers of Azlant
Qadira Wolfgang Baur (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly),

9-Merlokrep avatar

This project would be complete from the design stage by the end of the year, if enough people support it to move ahead.

All three of the Pathfinder and 4E projects currently under consideration will be available to the public eventually (if they go ahead, that is). So, you could always pick this up after the design/patron stage.

You'd probably miss out on a few inside bits like the discussions with Paizo, some chances for feedback and for designing something for publication, but you'd gain the chance to wait and see it when it's all done.
