There is quite some surprise in this blog. Not sure what to think about it yet.

Also, calling Germany, Austria and Switzerland only Central Europe is kinda ... daring :D

I'd just call them Germany ;)

Lantern Lodge

Any news on chronicles for this module?

Lantern Lodge

Hi,

I tried to catch up with my PFS chars and create them here in my account as well.
Unfortunately the char name is already set and I cannot change the name or the Avatar (in fact, at Avatar Image it just says none).
Error message is: That avatar name is already in use by another account

Lantern Lodge

Is this too trivial?
Or too difficult to answer?

Come on...I believe in you guys :)

Lantern Lodge

Since I am thinking about making an adamantine spiked gauntlet a bonded item for a char of mine:

How many Hit points (HP) does a standard/steel spiked gauntlet have?
Only RAW answers please.

Consider:

-It is neither a "light blade" (2HP), nor a "light metal-hafted weapon" (10HP) or "light hafted weapon" (2HP).

-Adamantine has HP/inch 40. Since there is no source that defines the thickness of a spiked gauntlet, there is no way to determine this RAW.

-If one would assume, that it has the same HP as medium armor, it would at least have 20HP. The problem is, I could also say that my gauntlet stems from a full plate (45HP).

-----
Also, even if we can determine the HP: In 3.5, one could not sunder armor.
Can you sunder armour in Pathfinder (in a combat situation)?
I cannot find anything about this in the books.

Lantern Lodge

Baden-Württemberg is the place to be ;) .
A big PFS-Scene here could potentially also attract gamers from Alsace and Switzerland.
And with english-native-speakers maybe even uk, dutch, other european gamers for a Convention.

Like I said, I am excited about this addition.

Lantern Lodge

Lets you perform any Combat Manuever without provoking at -2 CMB.
I post again my list and add my Tiefling boons. If somebody has Xenophobic, he might get some use out of them

Offer:
-Tien Library Training
-Monastic Combat Training
-2x Taint of the lower planes (Tiefling)

Want:
-Treasure Map
-Extra Trait
-Goblin Boon (would even give an Ifrit for this)

Lantern Lodge

I like the reroll for buying stuff.
We should not forget that PFS is a marketing tool.
Also it helps to keep our local gaming stores alive.

I will adopt this idea.

Lantern Lodge

+1 attack against Onis
and
Skill Specialization Knowledge(Geography)
or
Tien as bonus language

Lantern Lodge

Offer:
-Tien Library Training
-Monastic Combat Training

Want:
-Treasure Map
-Extra Trait
-Goblin Boon (would even give an Ifrit for this)

Lantern Lodge

I have the pleasure to announce my third VL.
This time I present to you: Kyle O'Hara
A Canadian that brings the Society to your troops stationed here in Stuttgart.
And since he is also fluent in German, he will help to grow the szene in general.

I am very happy with this addition.
Welcome to the team Kyle!

Lantern Lodge

The Bonekeep was lucky we ran out of time, otherwise we would have pillaged more than just 5 rooms ;) .

Lantern Lodge

I have the pleasure of announcing Benjamin Falk as my 2nd Venture Lieutenant (the first being Jan Pralle, which I missed to announce on time ;) ).
He will add the city Freiburg to our area.

Benjamin posts as Hayato Ken.

Welcome on board!

Lantern Lodge

This statement should make it very clear:

Quote:
At 6th level, an eagle shaman's wild shape ability functions at her druid level – 2. If she takes on the form of an eagle or roc, she instead uses her druid level + 2.

Teleological interpretation suggests that you can make use of the templates provided in the preceding paragraph about totemic summons.

Lantern Lodge

At level 6 you should be able to use shift into a young roc. In do believe the shaman classes can apply templates to wild shape as well as SNA.

Lantern Lodge

Like I said in my first post, I had to take a few days off. Now I am back.

First event is going to happen in Karlsruhe.
Date: 12th of January
Time: 7pm
Location: Vorholzstraße 32 Südweststadt (76137).
Adventure: Pathfinder Society Scenario #4–01: Rise of the Goblin Guild

Also, I applied for 3 Tables/each 3 adventures at a local Con in Karlsruhe (2nd of Feb.).
As soon as I have confirmation from the Con-Organisation, I will post something more precise.
But thanks to the Venture Cap Frankfurt and his Lieutenant, who will help me running those tables, if they are going to happen.

Lantern Lodge

Amazing news!
For the the mini cherry on top of the regular cherry on top of the sundae of awesomeness that is this new way of adventure reporting...
...I would recommend grouping the outcomes by region instead of regarding each table. That way, regions with fewer players have the same power to influence the story line as the big ones like California.

Lantern Lodge

Hallo zusammen,

My name is Wolf and I am the new VC for Karlsruhe and Stuttgart.
I always enjoyed living campaigns, but PFS has unfortunately never found a foothold in Germany.
I just came back to Germany after working abroad for a while and was unsatisfied with the lack of PFS presence in my region. So I reached out to Mike and got the chance to make a difference

We face the challange creating a growing, self-sustaining PFS community in a country where players are not used or don't want to use english material for their role-playing experience.
Give me some time to get this thing started. As my fellow german VCs know, active players here can almost be counted on two hands (maybe four hands ;) ).

I just created a yahoo group for PFS in Germany, so that we can coordinate our efforts between Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe more easily in the future. Please make your player base and GMS aware and invite them to join:
http://de.groups.yahoo.com/group/pathfinder-germany/

Locations for gaming will be announced as soon as possible.
I suspect over the Holidays, there will not be much movement in that direction. Also, I will probably take a few days off.
I keep you guys posted.

Merry Christmas, und danke für die Glückwünsche!

Lantern Lodge

asthyril, could you please ask that in this thread:
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ocia?Racial-Boon-Trading
I want to keep this only for offers.

I ante up

OFFER:

- Nagaji/Wayang/Kitsune boon

WANT:

- Ifrit

Lantern Lodge

9 people marked this as a favorite.

Hey Y'all,

This here should be a platform to trade boons.
After this years GenCon there have been some changes affecting the value of certain boons (Aasimar, Tengu and Tiefling are, sadly, now open to everyone).
There was another thread about trading boons, but it had way too many off-topic posts. So I decided to open a new one.

If you feel like discussing the pros and cons or other off-topic issues, I kindly ask you do so in the old thread:
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ocia?Racial-Boon-Trading

...and please stick to the following format:
-----------------------------------------------------

OFFER:

- Kitsune

WANT:

- Ifrit

Lantern Lodge

Hi Mike,

I would like to see an addendum to the Guide that list basically all the stuff that is legal in PFS consolidated in neat tables (incl. the stuff from the Additional Resources).
Allthough split into categories not sources (not like the Additional Resources page ;) ).
(Split into equipment, traits, spells, feats, classes, etc...)
That would be very handy and since it would be an addendum it would not bloat the actual Guide.

Off-topic:
Please allow the demon-bloodline from blood of the fiends. No reason not to have it legal (given that the Deamon Tiefling is allowed ;) ).

Lantern Lodge

Another question concerning the Braid:

the GM at my table said that the Item was updated so that non-monk characters also benefit from it.
Is there an updated version of the Chronicle available to download?

Lantern Lodge

I find playing down in PFS always dissappointing.
Thus far, the only adventure that was really challenging or "life threatening" on the appropriate tier was "dawn of the scarlet sun".
Quest for perfection is however not really difficult and can easily played up.

The challenge in this adventure lies elsewhere. The players have to think very tactical. And it is very important that you know the encounters inside out and prepare them.

Lantern Lodge

Ok guys,
lets make a trading platform out of this thread.
So no off-topic please.

Here is my offer. I only need an Ifrit. Please don't ask me if I want the tarrasque racial boon instead. If interested send me a PM.

OFFER:

- Tiefling

WANT:

- Ifrit

Lantern Lodge

Totally worth it to stay up :) !

"To create an aasimar, dhampir, ifrit, kitsune, nagaji, oread, sylph, tengu, tiefling, undine, or wayang character, you must have a Chronicle sheet that opens the race as a legal option at character creation."

Lantern Lodge

Can not wait any longer. Almost 10pm CET.
Sleep will bring me release ;) .

Lantern Lodge

Wayang, Kitsune, Nagaji...
and this was supposed to be sarcastic.

Lets focus on the mainpoint. Keep the racial diversity at the gaming tables to a minimum.
And please don't disappoint gamers who travel far and spend a lot of money to get convention boons by opening up those races to the general public.

Lantern Lodge

Jiggy wrote:
To be fair, this is only true if the same races get opened up.

Which one is missing ;) . At this point there seems to be a boon for every imaginable race out there.

---------------------------------
Also, the additional ressources page does not list races thus far:

Quote:

Additional Resources for Your Character

Last updated Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Below is a specific list of Paizo Publishing products and the equipment, traits, deities, spells, feats, and classes contained within that are legal for play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

Lantern Lodge

I am hoping for the opposite.
Lets keep those races restricted for a more enjoyable and "realistic" gaming experience.

Also it would make the racial boons useless.
Which would be a slap in the face for many diehard PFS players.

Lantern Lodge

Sorry, my bad. I get a little confused with the different time formats (am/pm). Should still be mathematically 18:00 but somehow I mixed it up with 8pm in my head ;) .

Lantern Lodge

Is there going to be a warhorn page for sign up to the games?
Or how do you handle?

Where can I see the available scenarios.
EDIT: I found the Excel sheet with the available scenarios.
BTW: On the 31th of may is a module starting at 8am that is set to take 10h. This would conflict with the interactive starting at 7pm.
I would like to participate at both events. Is this somehow possible?

Lantern Lodge

Awesome! Allready have the ticket for PaizoCon. Unfortunately I couldn't get a spot in the banquet. I hope I can still get the goodies.

And I have to attend GenCon while I am in the US of course.

Thank you for the hint.

Personally, I can say that I believe that there's a lot of players I've met that don't uwas the Field Guide. I was recently on hiatus from gaming for about a year, and I'd always had a big question about what I really wanted to o with PP. I dint realize for a long time that I didn't need to save up all of the PP for a True Resurrection, since being raised in PFS is different.

I am the only person that I know who's used vanities.
I played in LG as well, an I loved the regional nature of it, and the rewards that actually made a player feel like they got to be unique in the settting. Since I've used my Craft(weaving) since Season 0, I am fairly confient that my Osirion fabrics/carpet merchant is the only one like mine. I have an Artisan's shop, and both a trade caravan and sailing ship to transport my wares. Additionally, I have two seneschals, a prsonal porter and various background workers at my shop, sailors on my ship, and traders on my caravan.
Oh! And I carry the Pharoah's Crook of Order, a specific gift from the Ruby Prince himself. (it's an actual weapon from a faction mission reward. NEVER seen or heard of anyone else with it.)
... And soon, I am certain that I shall die, and be able to take the title "the Risen" with Resurrection for only 8PP. (any takers? Kyle?)

So, yes, I feel there's plenty of unique things in PFS. And with our higher ups promising a more interactive environment in Season 4, I can only it will get better.

Your excellent post made me a lot more excited about PFS.

I guess I haven't seen a lot of good things lately.

But I still think that stuff from the field guide, which is always and to everybody available, is generic and bland to me.

Matthew Pemrich wrote:

When you said "unique," I thought you meant truly unique, as in, "there is and only will ever be one of these Boon Chronicles."

I know there have been things like that in different Organized Play settings.

Truely unique would of course be even more awesome, but I would be content with it beeing extremely rare (e.g. only players that participated in an interactive adventure only available once at a certain Convention).

Truely unique was technically possible in LG. If you could convince someone to write an Adventure especially for you (Which actually happend. Also an argument for a regional structure).

Lantern Lodge

What is the “event lottery” and how does it work?

Lantern Lodge

Ahh ok,
it is not as bad as I thought.

Fromper wrote:

Also, there are special boons and stuff you can purchase with your prestige points from your faction in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide. I just picked this up and started looking at stuff my characters would want. For instance, Taldor faction characters can get noble titles once they have enough fame and spend a couple of PA.

That is exactly what I would call generic. There is nothing special about it when every one can get it. Even worse, it is unrelated to any event and it has no impact on the course of the campaign at all.

Fromper wrote:

There are also convention boons, which are special rewards that a small number of people get just for showing up to a big event. These occasionally include the much coveted race boons that let you make a character of a race not normally allowed in PFS. For instance, I have a friend with a tiefling character.

This on the other hand is more like it. If only a certain amount of people have access to it, it has more value than a generic title for 5pp.

Kyle Baird wrote:
There's been unique intelligent items on chronicles before.. Is that special enough?

That is also pretty cool ;).

I would also like to see a handfull of unique adventures/interactives that actually shape/impact the gaming world.
I understand that this is much more difficult since PFS does not have regions. Maybe only on big conventions like PaizoCon, Origins or GenCOn.

Matthew Pemrich wrote:

While technically possible, with the kibosh on PvP there'd be no way to transfer these items from player to player. The amount of work involved in keeping those items in circulation would be immense, particularly from a programming and organizational standpoint, even if PvP was an option.

I am not sure if I understand that. Why would you transfer anything from player to player?

Lantern Lodge

Hi @all,

1)I wanted to ask if there are actually any unique rewards (Items, bonuses, special titles, maybe a customized prestige class) for Pathfinder Society games?

2)And would it be technically possible to write that stuff in?

PFS is pretty cool and superior to other living campaigns, but the generic aspect makes it less enjoyable.

In Living Greyhawk for example you could get pretty imaginative stuff in specials (and in certain regionals) that gave the whole thing a special touch.
I am not looking for powergaming tools but for flavour.

Lantern Lodge

OK, so it is still a bit dubious?
Does anyone know how Pathfinder Society is handling this?

Lantern Lodge

Cheapy wrote:
Yes, [...].

Do you have any rule quotes for me.

I would like to have it by the book, not just the intent of the rule.

Initially I was leaning towards "no" because certain animal shamans specifically mention a subdomain
e.g.

Quote:

A bat shaman who chooses an animal companion must select a bat. If choosing a domain, the bat shaman must choose from Air, Animal, Darkness (Night subdomain), and Trickery (Deception subdomain).
where as the eagle shaman does not mention a subdomain:
Quote:

An eagle shaman who chooses an animal companion must select a bird (eagle). If choosing a domain, the eagle shaman must choose from the Air, Animal, Nobility, and Weather domains.

Don't get me wrong, I want it to be true, since I really would like to have the Feather Domain ;) . But I would need to see a specific rule for that.

Lantern Lodge

Hi,

can an animal shaman, lets say a eagle shaman, take the feathers domain?
After all he can choose from the animal domain, of which the feathers is the subdomain.

Lantern Lodge

Hi Erian,

Is this baby dead? Would be a bloody shame, now that you are almost finished.

Anyway, merry christmas. Hope you find new motivation and a bit of auspiciousness for the Future.

Lantern Lodge

Great work thus far!
What are you planing to implement next? What will it looks like when its "finished".

Lantern Lodge

Hi,

great work.

Maybe you can add some Macros, which will alter the Skill list based on the class you choose. If you take a Bard for example, you get more perform skills (five or six) and less profesions.

And a Macro which will extend the place for weapons if you choose the fighter class.

It is certanly not the kindness Paizo is so famous for.

I respond to all of my emails. If he didn't email josh@paizo.com, then have him email me again. If he emailed and hasn't heard back from me, he may have been lost in the spam filter--have him email me again. Was he emailing about Pathfinder Society? What specifically was he attempting to contact us about and to whom did he send his email?

It's possible that it's just a language-barrier issue, but you like to jump to negative conclusion well ahead of any explanation. Please give me (and Paizo) some credit. We want to help and we will. :-)

Ok, I only wrote that he contacted Paizo. Certainly not about Pathfinder Society (probably about support or material for reviews) and I don't know which one of the Paizo-Staff he addressed.

Original Quote (It's quoted out of context):

Translates into something like this (please keep in mind that my english is bad and the translation might be partially wrong):

By now I don't think much of Paizo anymore, since they never answered even with a single word on my numerous Mails I sended them over the past few years.

----
But I am glad to hear that I was mistaken and I still can say Paizo is actually a nice company ;) .

Lantern Lodge

Ok, if the main problem is to attract more players, i'll tell you what you have to do:

Promote in Europe!

Honestly, there is lots of potential. The only problem is that you only focus on America and a little bit on England. I understand, it's convenient 'cause the speak english, but come on.
In France, Netherlands and here in the greatest country in the world (of course Germany and not Kazakhstan ;) ) are at least as much players as in the USA. Even though we received little to none support during the Living Greyhawk days, Ekbir, Adri and especially Sunndi had a very interessting, active and healthy community.
At the moment we don't have PaizoCons, GenCons or Society Szenarios in our language, but if Paizo would support those countries even a little bit, they would make tons of money.
There are a many people dying to help Paizo to conquer the world of RPGames and defeat the evil Wizards from the Coast (like Wormys_Queue who translates nearly everything Paizo-officials write about Pathfinder). Just talk to the communities. They are usually organized in Forums and easy to find.
For example:
I recently read that the admin of germanies biggest D20 community (dnd-gate.de / nearly 4000 users) tried multiple times to get in touch with Paizo, but never received an reaction. Is this called ignorance, arrogance or just bad business acumen?
It is certanly not the kindness Paizo is so famous for.

...And please forget about this re-play-nonsense.

This post is written in a harsh tone, I appologize if anyone is offended, but this is an aggravating topic for foreigners.

I think PFS lost something when this aspect was taken away. I agree that a zero-sum game leads to no fun for a lot of people. But even with no in-game or in-world benefits for one faction winning and another losing, these boards and meatspace games are full of faction rivalries. I'd be hard-pressed to find a thread of 50+ posts that doesn't, at some point, get derailed for a bit by people bashing (in character and jokingly) other people's factions. I love that everyone gets so into it! But after a while, when people see that the name of the faction and even their modus operandi and flavor don't mean anything, some of that enthusiasm is bound to dwindle.

I think the baby was thrown out with the bathwater here, because sure, having an in-game benefit for members of the "winning faction" might sow resentment and cause people to just all play the same faction to guarantee a win. I don't see any reason that one faction can't be declared the winner of season 0, have a short blog post about how that played out in-world, advance the timeline and start over. I don't need a bonus for my PC. I would just love to feel like this living campaign was affecting a living campaign setting. With the level of character wealth being tied to faction prestige, I think people wouldn't resort to sabotaging one another's missions for the sake of the overall standings in a race for control of Absalom. In the end, everyone's party is more likely to survive if everyone has as many prestige as possible, and I think most gamers can meta-game enough to know that. But a meta-plot for PFS reflecting the results of our gaming would be awesome and go a long way toward tying players' choices in game to a large scale result that they can see and follow, whether their faction comes out on top or not.

QFT.

+1

Also I fell like I was misleaded with false promises. The rivalry is the the icing on the cake. I do not want to play a game where everybody is always happy. There need to be the possibility to loose. And I am conviced that players won't abandon their factions and join the winning team. It's cool to be the underdog.
How can you abort this Idea of a meta-plot without even trying if it would work out?
After all, thats what attracted gamers to participate.
Do we have a say in this matter?
