Thank you Scipion and Smerg for your thoughts and insights. I especially liked the example of play you shared Scipion. That gave a pretty clear idea about how a game session will look. So far the game looks promising. I will also be checking out some of the linked articles on that website Smerg. There are a few that caught my eye. Thank you both again. If anyone has any further insights feel free to share. Greetings, I am looking into Mouse Guard as a possible RPG to play with older children ages 10 to 15 at a school where I work. I am inspired to do this because of my own love for the Redwall books and because I have read in a review that Mouse Guard really encourages teamwork and cooperation. However, I have a few questions about how the game plays. 1, Just how simple are the rules? Does a person need to read the whole book before playing or could I explain it to the child as play progresses? 2, How important is a table top map to the game? Could it be played without a grid map and miniatures? The children have visual impairments so this may be something of a hindrance if precise movement of figures is required. 3, What dice are used? I heard that it was only d6's. 4, Is it possible to create adventures that mimic the Redwall books style or is the style very different? Is there magic? 5, Just how pronounced is the teamwork in the game? The more the better. I'd like a game where combat is not the focus. instead I want problem solving and critical thinking skills. That will help me sell the idea to parents and my supervisor. If someone could help me out with these questions that would be great. I noticed that the book itself is on back order on Paizo. It is still being published right? As a side note, how would the game work in a PBP format? Greetings, I am sorry to say that upon returning from my Christmas vacation I discovered that the book had been left on the front porch during a rainstorm. I guess the person I had watching out for it was late in picking it up. Either way the book is soaked and has wrinkled and crinkled to the point of being slightly discolored and nearly falling apart. I would be happy to send the book back to you as proof. Is there a chance of getting a fresh copy please? Also, on a different note, I have recently encountered an English company called Spartan Games that creates a game called Firestorm Armada, among other great games. Firestorm Armada is a very interesting looking game that I would love to be involved in. I have noticed that other American web stores carry Spartan Games' products, but I hesitate to purchase from a company I haven’t used before. Is there a chance that Paizo could carry Firestorm Armada? Here is the website if you haven’t seen it before.
Greetings,
Concept: “I put no stock in religion. By the word Religion I have seen atrocities from every faith be called the will of the Gods. Holiness is in Right Action, courage on behalf of the weak, and in goodness. What the Gods desire is in your heart and in your head, and by what you do every day you will be a good man…or you will not.” Description: Brother John is a simple looking man in brown robes. Under his robes, however, can be seen the outline of armor. A simple sturdy sword hangs from his hip and a large kite shield is slung over his back. The symbol shown upon his shield and stitched upon the breast of his cloak is not recognizable as belonging to any of the known gods of this world. It is a white cross upon a brown field. There is little else of note about Brother John, save for his eyes. They are a deep blue and seem to be able to look into a person’s very soul. There is no judgment in his gaze, however, only a sense of acceptance and peace. Character: Brother John is a Human Cleric of Healing and Good. He is not aligned with a single god for he feels that none of them carry the whole truth to the people. Instead he prays to many of them and seeks to combine their wisdom into one set of teachings that can help everyone. He is a man of peace, but is not unused to the arts of war having been a soldier before taking up the cloth. Because of this he tends to have a practical outlook on things. Me, I can post Sunday through Thursday once a day. I may be able to post on the weekends, but it is not certain. Thank you for the feedback Mr. Frost. I have taken it to heart and shall pay closer attention in the future. Considering that this was my first experience with submitting material for publication I'm satisfied with the outcome. I'll probably clean up my submission a bit and then share it with the hopes of getting some feedback from the community. I just read the confirmation of receipt for my Trouble with Secrets submission. Here's wishing everyone good luck. I don't envy Josh the job of going through all of these excellent submissions. Also, sorry for your loss sir. I shall offer up a prayer for your family tonight. Please don't be offended. Well, it appears that I spoke too soon for myself. I was reminded today that we have family coming to visit this weekend, and that Saturday is the day we're going to see the Pumpkin Festival. Somebody forgot to put it on the calender I guess. Seeing as how I haven't seen the Pumpkin Festival in about fourteen years I'm not about to miss it. So, I'll have to bow out myself. Still, I hope that you guys and gals can get a game put together. Thanks for the link. I'll look into it. Hey everyone, I know it's been a while, but I was thinking about trying to set up another game day. How does the 18th of October look? Same time and location as before, or we can meet a little later. The latest I'd want to meet would be between two and three in the afternoon. If we can get four other people besides myself confirming that they will be there that would be great. I'd love to give playing a shot too. Rise of the Runelords is the best in my opinion. CotCT sounds fun when I read it, but it doesn't inspire me like RotRL does. Second Darkness looks pretty fun too, but I'll have to reserve judgement until I've read more of the series once they come out. Skinsaw Murders starts out aimed at 4th level, and Hook Mountain starts out aimed at 7th. You might want to do an abbreviated version of Burn Offerings and Skinsaw to bring the players up to 7th and then go from there. Create fog and then change course. Other great ideas can be drawn from the movie Master and Commander. Other than that, and what was mentioned above, a lot depends on what kinds of ships your campaign is using. If using 17th century style Man'0'War vessels then pouring on more canvas is a good tactic. If it is closer to 14th or 15th century technology then try tacking into the wind with your lanteen sails and moving at an angle which denies that same wind to your enemies if they try to pursue. If going even earlier to oar powered vessels or cogs then double or triple up the oars, running them out if you don't have them out already, to gain speed while looking for a reef that you can hide behind. The main thing is to have charts. Good charts will help you find hidden rocks or reefs that you can navigate through safely, while chances are that the enemy will lose the bottom of their ships unless their charts, and navigators, are at least as good as yours. Rise of the Runelords (Pathfinder Beta). Here is a link to what I have up so far. It includes the information about character creation. Also, Shaun, you are welcome to join us. I have no problem helping you out if you need anything. Feel free to ask. Ok, everyone feel free to Request Access to the game. I'll probably be back later today and add more background stuff. Please let me know if any of you lack the Campaign Setting book or the Player's Guide. Well, I'm thinking about starting up an interaction heavy PbP game of Rise of the Runelords. I love the amount of information available on Sandpoint and would love to sink me DMing teeth into it. The catch is that I wouldn't be running it here on Paizo's message boards but instead on a site called RPoL.net Role Play On Line is a pretty cool message board site with a lot of cool features that make a DM's life a lot easier. Still, I'm not sure if that is something that you or anyone else are interested in. If we can get three or four others interested in playing in a game on RPoL then I'll look into setting it up. If the idea interests you that is. What do you think? Hey, good to see you as well. For a while I thought it might just be the Captain and me. :) Yeah, I'm glad to be alive, even if work is forcing me to be a grumpy parental sort. I hate being grumpy and authoritative towards teens. Anyway, that's three of us. Now we just need to hear from wither Damia or Jinn, and Master Tarlane of course. :D I'm curious, is there a possibility of ordering some stuff from the Specialist Games range by Games Workshop from Paizo. I know it isn't in the current line up, but I'm wanting to passably place an order for some Battlefleet Gothic ship miniatures and I'm curious if I can order them through Paizo instead of directly from GW. No special reason for this, just wanting to support my favorite gaming store. Not a big deal if it isn't possible, I'm just curious. Greetings, Just letting everyone know that we are nearing the date of the second meeting of the Pathfinder Society in Fremont. So far the plan is to meet on the 13th at the local HobbyTown USA at Noon and then play to around six or seven. So, I'm looking for a head-count of who out of those in the group plans on being there, as well as if anyone else wants to DM this time. Please respond here instead of E-Mail if you can so we can keep the information centralized. I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and yes I plan on being there if we can get at least four others attending, and I'll DM if nobody else wants to. That would be great. I'll drop you a line and we can discuss details. In the meantime, if anyone else in the Fremont area, or willing to travel there, would chime in if they are interested that would be wonderful. I know of a few local pizza places and the like if we want to have a meet and greet before settling down to game. A quick question for those who play Fantasy. I've got three regiments of Chaos Warriors assembled, 12 models each. I also have two boxes left unassembled. Which would be more effective in the game; using those boxes to make my three regiments larger, up to 18 models each, or simply building two more 12 man regiments?
