was that ever released??

I think I saw them selling it on their website, Fantasy Flight games. I didn't pay too much attention since I just visit their site for stuff on Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader.

I don't embarrass easily. For Ash Wednesday Mass, after receiving the ashes, I noticed all the altar servers and a few parishioners were standing while others were sitting or kneeling. I kept standing. My son leaned over and asked, "Why are we standing?" I said, "Because the altar servers are, and they're nervous enough without me helping make them look wrong."

I think that mini-lesson in etiquette sunk in. My son Christopher is pretty bright.

:D

Nice, I was an altar server when I was a kid. It still brings back memory watching the servers ring the bells when the priest held up the communion, only messed up once doing that. hah.

Ah Jovian Chronicles, I love that setting, own all the books and almost all of the early Heavy Gear books. The system is okay for low to mid level settings. The game we played was a cloak and dagger operations set in the Jovian Chronicles world, none of us used mechs and went undercover to other stations. It was a fun setting. Go Venusians! ;-)

What a flippin' awesome film. Sam Rockwell (not to be confused with Chester Rockwell) was over the top incredible. The special effects were also amazing. This is definitely a thinkers Sci-Fi film. This was also an amazing emotional drama too. Do not miss.

The music was also well placed. Can't say enough good things.

I was thinking about picking this up for the wife. Glad to hear it's a good film. Did you see Sunshine? What did you think about it?

Moon is an excellent film, I just saw it last night. Great piece for scifi fans with a great premise. The plot is great and Sam Rockwell is at the top of his game, it was interesting seeing him act like this considering he was the security officer, Guy, in Galaxy Quest.

Sunshine... *shudder* I was enjoying it until about the midway point. At that point I just had to get up and leave the theater for a bit and vent with a coworker. One had to already put up some suspension of disbelief for the intial setup and then what they did... it's on my would not recommend list.

Instead I'd recommend District 9, this and Moon are my top scifi films of 2009.

Here's an interesting use...
I was playing a warmage in an old game (major rumble in a forest) and the opposition had a phoenix that flew around us setting the forest around ablaze, also allowing for their forces to escape. My warmage was casting sleet storm left and right so that the fires didn't spread enought to block our path. While the DM ruled it didn't extinguish the major blazes, but it helped a lot. It was open to interpretation, but that was an interesting use of sleet storm.

This is a totally cool idea. If the location were acceptable - comfortable, clean, and with the sort of equipment on hand that I might want for my game (large table, snacks available for purchase, easy access to dice/minis to buy on short notice, etc.) I think I'd find it really useful. If you figure you can fit four tables set up like that, at $40 per five hours, fit in two slots per day, that's a couple hundred dollars of potential income just from the "rent". You'd need a lot of space to fit this stuff, and you'd need to be pretty reliable about maintaining it, but it strikes me as a cool source of supplementary income that also gives groups of people a real reason to shop at your store.

I have no idea if this would even be feasible, from a business standpoint, but from the perspective of a customer I find it appealing.

EDIT: Ooh, maybe have a couple cheap desktop computers on hand off to the side with a printer hooked up and a bunch of character generation tools installed (the DDI Character Builder, one or two 3.5 or PFRPG-compatible generators, etc.) specifically for "rent"-paying members to use.

And work out a deal with the local pizza place to offer discounts to your customers while...

Reading all this makes me think of fantasy flight game's event center

Just noticed their website since i go to their page for info on dark heresy. Yeah, more of their own products and such, kinda more like a gw shop in some ways.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a face to face gaming group, playing 3.5 or Pathfinder rules, in the Northern VA/DC/Maryland metro area. Ideally, I'd like to do something on the lines of Savage Tide, Rise of the Runelords, or Crimson Throne, but I'd be open to other things. Evenings and weekends preferred, as is a relatively mature group (i.e., ages 18+).

I live in Alexandria, Virginia.

I might be interested in a weekend game.

Hah, I'm pretty familiar with Alexandria, been working in the area since '02. I'm kinda interested in a game, though time may be an issue. It depends on where the game is and when.

Well, at least the ps2 players are still available for sale and are reasonable in price, so you can still play ps2 games if you really really want to though yeah, that's a bummer about the noncompatible one you got.

Also, a new game coming out is MAG, if you're into massive first person shooter games. that one supposedly can go up to 256 players... O_o

I'd love to promote it. But to do that, I'd have to find people who are into RPGs who aren't beyond the bend crazy.

There are two kinds of people who play these kinds of games. One group is best represented by the 40 year old man whom I watched get up and leave the room crying crazy tears because his character had to pay taxes on gold (I was a player, not the GM, I was totally stunned and didn't say a word during the whole thing). Another representation is the 27 year old man whom I was stuck listening to for about an hour gloating over how he'd found the perfect arrangement of feats/skills/class/prestige class/etc. to get some crazy totally munchkinized bonus on his character sheet.
The other group is the rest of us.
Unfortunately, where I've recently moved (northern Virginia) seems to be swarming with the first kind of people and the second kind of people are in hiding.

wow... that said, I live in the northern virginia area, and yes, we stay hidden, lest we meet the first kind. we're more like closet gamers. heh.

That said, everyone in the group have bought their own copy of Pathfinder paper copy, doing our part to increase the sales. :-)

The user interface they got from experience with iphones and all probably will be interesting. I don't own an itouch or iphone, but the few times i've messed with them, I've been impressed.

To address the price, looks like the lowest model is starting at 499 and that's just the initial price offer, it'll probably drop in price within a year or so. I can see myself picking one of those up at that point instead of a netbook.

Exactly. A lot of people seem to forget that what the camera sees and reality honestly have almost no bearing to each other. Get shorter actors, and if really neccessary, make the sets a little smaller, and BOOM, suddenly we have a giant Conan if that's what you really want.

Yeah, they do that all the time with Tom Cruise. *rimshot*

They are targeted at a single class and character level, my one gripe about them is there is no real way to make them into a campaign which would be fun. The pregen character in the adventure I have has a massive cache of healing potions.

There is one series of three adventures in that book for rogues and they do have something in common running through it and you can get a PC to run it through one after another. The first one is rather interesting and enjoyable. I'm not a big fan of the second one really, though I should read it again to get the feel of it before running it. The last one looks like it'll be fun to run.

Yeah, to further elaborate Hank's explanation, decimation was originally a specific punishment meted out in the Roman army, basically punishment to the whole unit. Everyone's divided into groups of 10, y'all draw straws, etc. and odd man out gets to be beaten to death by his nine comrades, hence the 10% dying. Something like that. Fun times.

Does Houston have a part time law program? That's also another route, work during the day and then evening classes. It can be exhausting to and it takes four years to graduate, but it's an option if the school has it. One thing DC area law schools do have in spades are evening programs.

I do like the expansion on the magic stuff and how the 2nd and third level spells are limited to a few.

The ability to appraise for magical items... hmmm... I dunno if the prerequisites might be too low for my taste.

The back to back fighting feat, that may cause issues, what happens when someone grapples one of them? Does this additional person who would be in their square cause the odd man out to be ejected? Would he somehow stay in there and instead lose not only his ac bonus but also his dex bonus? I kinda thought that when one fought in a five foot square that ensures the dex bonus, when you squeeze into a smaller than fight foot square you lose the dex bonus, so when you're in the same square as another, I have to wonder how they'll still retain that bonus.

I enjoyed the toxin adaptation.

Head executioner and Head interrogator
One to put them to the question, one to end their suffering

Devil's advocate - someone to always play the opposing arguments for major decisions.

Head of a major military faction/mercenary unit. It may be the king wants to keep them happy and keep them tight with the running of the kingdom.

A close friend of the king, previous adventuring buddies (and drinking buddies) who the king keeps as a close advisor, who can kick butt for him (kinda like Hand of the King, but with less title)

Aerial commander? In a world with fly spells and magic carpets, let alone flying wyverns...

Also maybe specific leaders of various racial/ethnic groups in the kingdom, like a representative of the dwarves who make a significant contribution to the kingdom, maybe they have a nearby dwarven hold and mainly want to stay in there, but has a representative that has a large sway.

Royal stooge... I mean someone the king keeps around so if something happens, they'll take the blame for him, but he's given a generous salary.

Royal Sage and/or Head Cleric
Someone the king may consult for divinations or prayers to the gods.
Plus, in the case of the cleric/priest, he's kinda beneficial if he can heal, gotta make sure the royal line stays healthy, and to ward the place from evil (or good...) influences.

Totally agree, they'll stop laughing once they get cut off at the ankles. The gnome serial killer illusionist is funny, I may have to try something like that on my players.

The funny part is the latest group of characters made (for the playtest), 2 of the 3 are halflings and both are evil, one halfling has 2 skeletons minions for his bone oracle and the other has a huge pet (looking like an evil knight) for his summoner... On second thought nevermind about making evil small races as antagonists, my players are the antagonists! All that's missing is the halfling anti-paladin.
