Chris..welcome.
I think the pathfinder additions make don't really unbalance the Core Classes with regard to the splat book types..but I'm willing to consider stuff on a case by case basis.
As to campaign worlds I'm tempted to use the Wilderlands from JG/Necromancer.Mainly because my maps of the Goodman World have corrupted.
OK people, I'm moving this to a discussion thread so we can do character creation. find it here
no problem at all
(Frantically scratches Dungeon interludes off list of possibles)
I've been talking to dabbler on YIM and he has a character concept so as soon as Rusty and Larcifer confirm they will be taking part I'll move this to a discussion thread for character creation
Hi Larcifer..I'm in the UK..Scotland to be more specific..you would be the fifth player of a maximum six should you join us
Tom can you let me know what other Goodman scenarios you have?
Welcome Tom...ok looks like Whiterock is out then..but that leaves me 50 Dungeon crawl products to use...yes I have the lot, and I may throw in a couple off Necromancer scenarios as well(But not Rappan Athuk me thinks).
I just noticed that Ambriel lists her languages as common and Chelaxian...I believe they are one and the same in Varisia.
Typo corrected..that'll teach me to do things half asleep
Yes 1st level...I'm almost certainly going with the Goodman Games stuff which appeals to my old school sensibilities.
We have two alternatives with this...I can run Castle Whiterock which is designed to take PCs from 1st to 15th level or I can cobble together various Dungeonn Crawls into an adventure path...
The more I read, the more I like the pathfinder stuff so lets go with it(gotta learn it sometime)and we'll go for the racial hitpoint modifiers I think
Dabbler Asimar and Tieflings are ok..any of the low ECL races shouldn't unbalance things too much. But nothing from the Enviroment or Races splat books.
Rusty, welcome aboard. I have no problems with DMing for players in different time zones and I intend to post two to three times a day most days..I work shifts so the times I post will vary wildly from week to week(as Dabbler well knows) but I'll let you all know what the schedule will be as and when it changes
No problem Cry..I had thought you might want valid IC reasons for things so I've started that part of the story here
That ..dream, vision, delusion, call it what you will... occurs one or two days before the scenario starts.
Hi Captain, nice to hear from another British gamer(Dabblers in Gloucester and we go back a couple of years).
I'll probably run it as 3.5 as I'm still finding my way through Pathfinder and the differences it makes to the rules. Having said that I'll go with Pathfinder if the demand is there..it'll just be a steeper learning curve for me.
Dabbler, I'd advise you to grab the Pathfinder Alpha freedownload just in case
Well despite the somewhat fudged ending it was....EPIC and a fine ending to RTDs run as executive producer.
Now if only we could get Joss Wheedon to write a story...sigh
Ok good question mate and nice to see you on these boards.
32 point buy..any class from the PH and the Complete books except Samurai, Wu-jen, Shugenja, Ninja and Warlock. No Psionics.
Treat Knowledge (local) as a class skill for all classes
I'm not bothered how you do your dice rolls Invisible Castle or rolling at home is ok by me(I trust my players not to cheat)
So I'm thinking about putting my 34 years of DMing experience to use here(its got to be good for something). Have a few options in mind maybe Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk or something from the Goodman Games canon possibly even Castle Whiterock.
Anyone interested, I'll be looking for a balanced party of 5 or 6 characters.
Sharinda wrote: Sharinda looks at the newcomer with a peery eye
"Aye then. Oatcakes and honey for the bint, and two Varisian ales. We just got summat in recently from a new supplier called Crystalrock Amber Stout, if that'll please yeh. If I recall it came from close to this Korvosa burg, least that's where the peddler said he was out from."
Sharinda gives the newcomer's getup a once over.
"Would yeh be needing anything by way of grub for yerself then madam?"
The woman shifts her gaze monentarily to Sharinda
"Not for me Lil' one I'll be eating later"
She gives Andrea another predatory smile
So Sweetie worked out who I am yet?she asks the now shaken girl.
That's Ok Cry we know real life gets in the way of our fun ocassionally.
BTW I'm on GMT and am hoping it doesn't disrupt the flow of posting too much
Just don't call Andrea a Dancer she's not that kind of girl.
For Cry

Certainly my friend, Old Korvosa is by far the cheapest part of the city to live in
Old Korvosa
The following costs are averages that vary by size.
Rent per Month
Apartment Suite (Bridgefront) 1–3 gp
Apartment Suite (Garrison Hill) 8–16 gp
Apartment Suite (Old Dock) 2–9 gp
Tenement Flat (Bridgefront) 5 sp–1 gp, 5 sp
Tenement Flat (Garrison Hill) 4–8 gp
Tenement Flat (Old Dock) 1–4 gp
Studio (Bridgefront) 4 sp–1 gp
Studio (Garrison Hill) 2–4 gp
Studio (Old Dock) 1 gp, 5 sp–3 gp
Apartment Suite: Some buildings do not have ground-f loor
businesses and instead contain nothing but living spaces.
The largest and nicest of these buildings contain apartment
suites, one-story dwellings with one or two bedrooms and
all the amenities of townhouses. An apartment suite never
fills a floor on its own and usually opens onto a common
hallway. Apartment suites can be purchased or rented.
Tenement Flat: Tenement flats lack their own privies,
baths, and kitchens. Instead, they share communal
rooms dedicated to these purposes. Two or three of them
can squeeze into the space of a single apartment suite.
Tenements are only available for rent and cannot be bought
by their residents.
Studio: The smallest of all dwellings, a studio consists
of a single open space, often with just enough room for
a bed and one or two other pieces of small furniture.
Studios share communal privies, baths, and kitchens.
They are only available for rent and cannot be bought by
their residents.
Hope that helps.
I would recommend the guide to you if you want a fuller idea of what Korvosa is all about
Totally and whole heartedly agree with the sentiments expressed above
Nuff said

Ok so Andrea lives in a tenement flat(rent 1-1.5 gp a month)in Bridgefront near the paintworks
Bridgefront: When the people of Bridgefront ran out of
room to erect more buildings, they started adding makeshift
floors to extant structures. Over time, these makeshift floors
gained their own rooftop lean-tos. Spaces between buildings
became fair game as well, with ladders and long poles crossing
gaps over increasingly narrow roads. Bridgefront occupies a
narrow spit of land at the base of Garrison Hill, reaching only
three blocks inland from the strait. In those three blocks,
though, live more than a tenth of the city’s population,
including almost eight-tenths of its poor and destitute.
O13. Hessim, Newby, and Sage Paint Manufactory:
This curious place is a twisted and sagging shopfront that
displays hundreds of tiny jars and pots, brushes, canvases,
and easels. Even from the street, the building smells of
turpentine, linseed, and oil.
For the past 108 years, the manufactory of Hessim, Newby,
and Sage has made the rich pigments of Old Korvosa into
paint, a fact the trio of smiling, ingratiating elderly owners
is proud of. The three men are incredibly short and wear
thick optics to see. Although soft-spoken, the old men are
both nervy and strangely defiant. From the simplest flake
white at 1 sp a pot to the most dazzling Newby Violet at
40 gp a jar, the pigments of Hessim, Newby, and Sage are
unsurpassed for brilliance, realism, and permanence.
I got the guide to Korvosa today on pdf and am working out where Andrea lives now(i can be such a completist when it comes to my characters)
I'd like Andrea to do some checking up on Lamm ...using her gather information and taking 10(and even taking 20 if possible)whenever she can manage to.
She will be circumpect..no point in giving away her interest too much
but basically she wants to know
1) Lamms base of operations
2)known associates
3)connections with any outside organisations..slave rings, dodgy traders..that sort of thing
Arrrrrrrrggghhh I just rechecked things and I overdid the knowledge skills
lose the history and geography...and add one rank to knowledge arcana
so it reads
Knowledge Arcana: 4 ranks(+6)
Nature: 1 rank(+3)
The Planes: 1 rank(+3)
Slaps self round head a few times and retire to corner mumbling
I have one question for all those who complain about random hit points..do you roll random weapon damage because if you don't have one you shouldn't have the other. If your characters are going to have fixed HP then your weapons should do fixed damage..then you can work out exactly how many hits it will take to put down the fixed HP monster..
Removing the ramdom elements takes most of the uncertainty out of the game and wheres the challenge in that
Well Andreas Journal is up and running here
We will probably lack a cleric so the parties interaction with undead should be more cautious than the usual 'it's ok we can turn them' attitude that most have
All in all working up to a most interesting game
Well here it is my first online campaign journal set in Cry Havocs CoCT game. I only hope Andrea survives long enough to make this worth while.
Tristan Lidu this is all your fault:)
For Demidian
Now all we need is a couple of meat shields...err fighting types to go up front and let us rear rankers and flankers do our jobs.
Ilove the make up of this party a real bunch of outcasts in Korovasa.
The druid because he's a druid, the rogue for being Varisian and Andrea is doubly damned by race and class
Oh yeh I can see it now my pretty redheaded girl(all 5'4" of her) in the middle of a bunch of massive half orcs...am I going to feel slightly out of place...you betcha. Sounds fun
Of course there is a game of medieval fantasy with detailed combat, scarce and frightening magic and truely nasty Monsters but I can't get anyone to play Chivalry and Sorcery (3rd Edition)
Thanks Havoc...happy to be here...how are we doing character generation.
I think I'll stick with Andrea's background as written ...which of course means she is doubly damned for her race and class in Korvasa.I like a challenge.

Druid with an axe...don't you think the trees would object...:)
A few words to introduce myself since I'm new on these boards. I'm 48 been wargaming since I was 5 and roleplaying since I was 14(every version of D&D from Original upwards) so I guess that makes me a grognard...in addition I have played virtually every one of the classic systems (and some not so classic)
I've hung out on the Necromancer boards for the last couple of years so some of you might know me from there though my participation of late has been sketchy.
As to character background....well hows this if we run with CoCT
Andrea Greenholt...half elf Sorcerer. Chaotic good. Follower of Desna..venerates Shelyn and Calistra
One of Perishial's byblows(though she doesn't know this), the product of his liasion with a younger daughter of one of the minor noble houses Andrea was brought up in a family who despised her ...she and her mother were treated more as servants than as family members and it was only when she could sneak away to read in the library that she found any peace. As she recieved no formal education other than her mother teaching her the basics she is entirely self taught in a variety of esoteric subjects(the plan is to give her low rankings in a lot of knowledge skills)including some books that she definitely should never have come in contact with
Her mother disappeard when she was 12 leaving her as the focus of the families disdain. As she matured into womanhood the unwanted attentions of various males both within and outside the family began to press heavily upon her and when one particularly objectionable member of the species pressed himself upon her shortly after her fifteenth birthday she shocked everyone, including herself by thwarting his lust with a show of magical energy seemingly from nowhere.
As the young man lay writhing in pain(he would never father children for his line) Andrea fled from the family house and disappeared into the stews of Old Korvasa where she spent anxious weeks avoiding assorted villians and the searches of her wrathful relatives.
She was reaching the end of her tether when an elderly varisian woman came across her grubbing for scraps in a back alley. For somne reason unknown to Andrea the woman, Jessena, took pity on her and brought her into her home where for the first time in years she found herself being treated with kindness. Despite herself she found herself pouring her story out to the old woman who offered at the tales end to teach Andrea how to control the energies she feared so much. Despite some misgivings Andrea agreed and set out upon the path of the sorceress.
That was two years ago...six weeks ago Jessena was murdered her meagre possessions stolen. Andrea found herself alone again and swore vengance on the murderers if she could find them.In the last few days she has linked the Murders to Gaedren Lamm and waits only for an opportunity to avenge her Mentor. She has spent a lot of time in Calistras shrine praying to the Dark Lady for aid in her mission
Further details will have to await character creation
I would also be interested in this game...not bothered by which rules set or scenario.
My choice of character would be elf ranger if 3.5 or half elf Sorcerer under pathfinder
1st edition Boot Hill (mainly because my character had Gun Accuracy 99 Gun Speed 100...gods he was good)
Gaaaaaaaak!!!...my bad over the Pelor/Pholtus confusion..long time since i seriously played in GH(but wasn't Pelor equated with Pholtus at some point)
and not all St Cuthbertian clerics were for smacking people..only the billets were concerned with that.
I did create a paladinical order of St C that was very much into smiting evil...but were at least tolerant of other good religions.
Does anyone else find it ironic that WOTC are holding on to Pelor a god whose tenets included intolerance of other religions and whose priests were always described as had a do as I say or be smitten group?
Just thought I'd mention it as it seems to fit the Wizards mindset nowadays.

I think it's the sort of thing that works better with the written than the spoken word. My group has a distinct aversion to even romancing NPCs as most of them can't divorce the Dm from the NPC...you can tell we aren't immersion RPrs cant you.
Or at least thats the situation nowadays.Back in the days of 2E I ran a homebrewed world campaign for a small group the core of which sprang from the Night Below boxed set. During the five years of game time adventuring we had two major romances...The parties mage married the Jenelleth NPC whose dissappearance sparked of the entire campaign and fathered triplets...(all girls who were my worlds equivilant of the chosen of Mystra)
The more interesting relationship however occured mid way through the campaign when the party found themselves unwittingly allied with a group of Demons..one of the two Alu-Demons in the party took an interest in the party's fighter..a half Drow who had been struggling with his dual identity for some time( we ran an epic side story where he managed to bring his parents back together...he had been the product of a romantic liasion not rape)
Anyway over the three years that it took to get the story to a finish this character found himself falling harder and harder...even when she revealed her true nature to him he was still attracted...eventually they found a way to remove her demonic essesnce...(it involved an number of gods and a wonderful bit of roleplaying featuring the girls Succubus mother who I based on Endora from Bewitched)
Sigh happy days...we finished the campaign just as 3E was coming out...at that time I was virulently against the new edition(I came back with 3.5) and we killed the game world by having evil win...I have considered the possibility of returning to that world recently using the Midnight rules from Fantasy Flight
I like Wren...she's the sort of accidental hero that appeals to me. Any chance of seeing her stats sometime soon?
Clause 89b)
All players must cease and desist from any mention of any edition prior to the current edition..these have never existed as our legal department has retconned them out of existence
Subclause...Players will not mention the terms TSR,Gary Gygax or Dave Arnesen...use of these terms will constitute a breach of licence
Cthulhu F'thang
I've been reading this thread to occupy my time whilst working on the night shift
Love everything about this campaign...the Lidu/Kale dynamic..Lidu's confused sexuality...Her gradual descent into madness..Kiki's obvious training in the Justin Whalen school of trap detection(just couldn't resist referencing the Movie on that one)
Plus the interludes with Gt Uncle Worrin and other important people in her life...all of which make Lidu one of the most 3D characters I've come across in a long time.Keep up the good work
