I hear he mans up pretty well, so I'll keep watching. Yes, he is not a wimp by any means. And I'm not talking about physical prowess so much as his mental endurance and what he is willing to do. Plus think on this, what if you had a shonen hero like Naruto, Goku, or Luffy with a high INT score. Stuff I've watched so far: Boku no Hero Academia: I think people have done a fairly good job describing it so I'm just going to say, Tsuyu Asui is best girl. Koutetsujou no Kabaneri: Follows a familiar setting of humans being brought to the brink of extinction while living in isolated settlements while a monstrous threat tries to invade their walls. Shown in other anime like God Eater and Attack on Titan. Hopefully unlike AoT there will be less pointless hypothesis on the nature of allegory and fanboy/girl-ism. That SAID, HOLY SHIT! The animation reminds me of a more up to date 90's style which I love. Plus I'm really big into movement either of the characters and or environment and there were parts of the show I loved for that reason. The "shot out the window" being a great example. You'll know it when you see it. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable: I was worried that I wouldn't care about Josuke as a MC with Jotaro being in the show but it seems like he'll fit right into the JoJo verse without being overshadowed by his predecessor. Macross Delta: Macross is f***ing dead to me. I mean if you want the cartooniness of Macross 7 taken to not 11 but 21 with with a HEAVY MAGICAL GIRL TRANSFORMING IDOL GROUP theme (no I am not joking they actually transformed) where people stop running for their lives in a live fire fight to cheer on the posing mecha then you might be up for this. This is not Macross. This is not Macross Plus. This is not Macross Zero. This isn't even Macross Frontier. This is Macross "I block your missiles with my hologram parachute shield that has my winking at you 'teehee' kawaii desu face on it". The younger weebs will love it to pieces, me not so much. Kiznaiver: Something tells me Trigger is going to make me fall in love again with this one. The ideas behind the show appeal to me greatly. Mayoiga: Shows like this end one of two ways. The mystery is great and worth the ride or mind boggling stupid and doesn't work within it's own logic thereby being a complete waste of your time. Only time can tell. Also calling it now Pitan and the other dude, brother and sister. I've watched others but those were the ones that made impressions one way or another. Still more shows to look at this season so I can't wait to look at the rest. Think I'll check out Flying Witch and Kumo Miko next.
Shows I'm looking forward to are: Diamond Is Unbreakable - Cus JoJo's Ushio to Tora - Loved the manga and watched the first season. Boku no Hero Academia - I agree with the comment about Bones when they spread themselves thin but I really enjoy the manga and Deku is boss. Macross Δ - Cus Macross As far as what I'll watch though I will catch two episodes of almost everything. Gotta find those hidden gems out there.
Someone mentioned Legend of Galactic Heroes at some point? Either in this thread or another. I just found out about this and if you guys already know that's cool but...oh my god. My little weeabo heart never dreamed of this day. OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! /sqqqqqqqueeeeeee @ Alzrius oh god you are so right on the LH characterizations. Even the author in the final volume is apologizing about never doing anything with Mitsune. >_< I refused to get into Negima! because of my hate for Love Hina.

If you don't mind I would like to supplement this. In the Western market indeed we have seen a massive explosion since at least the early 2000's in popularity and more so the availability of Japanese anime, manga, and light novels. (Joy!) I, myself, was part of the last generation of anime clubs getting fansubs via the US postal service. In Japan the growth while present has been more steady. At least based on market reports of the sales of foreign and domestic animation inside Japan. As we can see the market enjoyed growth concurrently in Japan during the Westerner explosion before hitting a dip for a four year period. Since 2012 to 2015 reports say that growth has continued (yay!). So despite all the doomsday predications that were abound in 2010 the industry is quite healthy. Oh and might I also say in regards to information. Bless sites like livechart. They make a weeb's life so much easier.

There are similar elements which you pointed out but the focus of the next arc is really about something else. Which they do a poor job in the anime of showing. Spoiler: Ranta being a bigger ass than usual and Haru trying to figure out as an inexperienced leader how to deal with him. In fact in the novel the whole issue of moving hunting grounds was a big source of contention between the two of them and Mary didn't shed a single tear over it when it was decided as she expected it and had already prepared herself emotionally.

I have been waiting for a city based, more social based, pathfinder adventure for a while rather than "Get in a hole in the ground and stay there." You're good. I understand the pressure too for wanting to take double CWI which I wouldn't do under normal circumstance. But with the population of Kintargo always being accounted for it very much a soft timer. "Well ten more people died this week, hope that __________ was worth it."
Jaçinto wrote: Eh, our group is in the "That feat is stupid. Remove it from the game." You shouldn't need a feat for things that really should just be features of the game. Give it time and there will be a feat for blowing your nose, implying you can't do it without it. Well if that's your group's feelings on the feat then I would expect a house rule to already be in place so it wouldn't matter. By itself I would never take it either but the familiar archetype is a RAW solution to almost double the amount of crafting you want to get done without forcing another person to take any feats. Wand monkey + speed crafting is not a bad deal. I was just giving an option to where you don't have to take a feat you might not want.
Jaçinto wrote: he wants us both to take craft wondrous. I want to debate, with the group, that people should be able to work together on magic crafting to reduce time or meet requirements. I know by RAW, magic crafting has to be done solo but I find that ridiculous. One person has the skill, another cast spells into it, etc... Cooperative Crafting feat does this. Since he is a Wizard he could take the Valet (Familiar Archetype) by himself which grants him this via his familiar.
Alzrius wrote: short quote to save space My point is no one in the show (I mainly am refereeing to the main MC here) so much as blushes (aside from Darkness) at any other character's attire. Compared to Haruhiro in Grimgar looking at either Shihoru's or Barbara's breasts. Shiroe blushing upon seeing female Akatsuki for the first time. So on and so on. The "standard" is almost every male MC under the sun at one point "checks out" the the female lead for better or worse. Kazuma comes off very much as "zero @#$%s to give" when it comes to the women around him. Which is a reversal of what I would expect from a guy that sleeps besides a goddess ever night. Now I haven't read the LN so it might be different there. So that is what I am comparing. NOTE: I forget if he was all like "WOW!" with Aqua at first meeting but once he got to know her, all in the space of 5 minutes, it is clear that "switch" was turned off. Just so you know I just googled the LN illustrations to compare with the anime art, that's all. As for Aqua again. It's everything about her that is parody. Not just her outfit but how it relates to everything else about her. She is the female protagonist to the male protagonist in a "trapped in a fantasy world" story. The person that usually gets loved by fanboys to no end, has some sort of immediately noticeable endearing qualities, and normally is the instant love interest of the male protagonist. She is the part of Asuna, Akatsuki, Albedo, etc. but the worst of all worlds. Competent? No. Compassionate? No. Selfless? No. Loyal? No. So on and so on. Funny? Highly so. She has ZERO redeeming qualities as a person. She IS a rotten apple. Good looking to be sure but rotten to her core. I mean Albedo was...well, you know what she was probably but she did have good parts to her that make her enjoyable. That pretty exterior isn't there as fan service in my eyes so much as it's directly opposite to who she really is as a person least to who she is in the beginning. She just isn't titillating imho and it doesn't feel like she is meant to be. If you disagree that's cool, this is a great conversation btw, but that is my take away as someone that likes shows like Shokugeki no Soma. Or Greylurker right there nailed it on the head.

Well it's not like anyone comments on the ultra low cut of the guild staffer either in the show. As far as the difference between them visually, if you look at the LN illustrations you see the mini-skirt is about the same length but the transparent under skirt is shorter in the LN. For the anime they seem to have angled the rear of the skirt upward so they could draw the curvature of her butt. One interesting choice is they don't give her or any of the other fan-service the "shiny" polished treatment. Which I think further brings the point that it is there for parody not for ogling (See: High School of the Dead).
One good thing I read is one of the authors did say that the players are in no way required to sign the Compact but it does lead to 'bigger and better things'. (More contracts with bigger payouts.) But I'm stating right now there is no chance in Hell (pun intended) of me signing ANY contracts in Hell's Vengeance for ANY reason. My character doesn't need Abigail's permission to do their "job", if the rest of the party wants to sign up, cool, grats. But F-that and I'm glad that choice is there.
Lemmy wrote: I particularly love how he dragged Aqua with him to the fantasy world not because he liked her, but out of spite! XD One of the things I love about Aqua's design is the fanservice is there if you are into that but she is just so reprehensible as a character you couldn't care. It runs counter to the argument some people have of "you only like X because of her boobs". Example: Camilla (Fire Emblem Fates) Yet Eris who is very modest is extremely likable the moment you meet her. Overall a good parody of the "trapped in a fantasy/game world" genre. Sundakan wrote:
The pacing is slower than the novels, and the fact they have had once or twice entire three and a half minute sequences of silent slice of life montages doesn't help. It is a bit slow for me and this is coming from a mega-fan of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. So I can see where some people would have problems. The story really picks up with Mary and their adventures later in their 2nd farming location are much more suspenseful even if predicable on what would happen. (Being ambiguous as I can.) I have to say though my favorite this season is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The Town Without Me) aka Erased. Best anime mom ever...next to 'Eva'. ^_~
I have a character idea for Hell's Rebels that could be easily classified as "not optimal" and I understand that. But I like the idea and I would appreciate any and all advice to push this particular envelope as far as I can take it. Basic concept is a gnome School Savant Arcanist that is preferably of the Mage of the Veil school. It just fits the idea of the character and AP so well, but you can see what I meant by it not being the most optimized build right off the bat. I would hopefully be the spymaster for the Silver Ravens and she would specialize in infiltration (along with any other Roguish member of the party, never go alone I say), and decryption as well as, of course, illusions on the battlefield. I figure things like Magical Lineage (Ghost Sound) + Threatening Illusion for instant flanking buddy would be a nice trick. Pattern Seeker campaign trait for +1 DC to patterns. Craft (Alchemy) for utility and justification for using alchemical power components like silver to boost disbelieve DC's. Potent Magic of course, Gnome FCB to level 12, Spell Focus (Illusion), Greater Spell Focus (Illusion), etc. But I'm a bit of a loss to fill the rest in and also when to take what. Lastly, my friend who is also playing says he has never seen a good Arcanist at high levels (anecdotal evidence I know) and worries about my ability to handle Devils, Hellknights, and anything that can see through illusions. What are strategies you would recommend when faced with such enemies? Thank you in advance for anyone taking the time to help me out.

I'm currently trying to download the Player's Guide, but the process seems a little backlogged due to the Humble Bundle volume. Just start the personalizing process and keep clicking the link every two minutes or so, that way you do not get logged out. Clicking the link before it isn't ready doesn't "reset" the process. Might take 10-20 but you will get it.

Been waiting for the Player's Guide to personalize too for as long as it's been out Spectrevk. It sucks, I know. But I figure at this point we aren't going to get it till the Humble Bundle ends or they do something to unclog the system as it were. Or just get lucky. Hope this doesn't delay a possible game you were planning. The only thing I would say about this is that it would be nice to have a warning on the HB site letting future purchasers know that they may have to wait due to the traffic here on Paizo. Much like you would let anyone on a site know there might be a delay with a shipment or order they purchased. Paizo might not of known about the issues that would arise before hand and that's fair. Shit happens, it's cool. (Least in my book.) But now they do, so be fair to your consumers Paizo and give them that info so they can make an informed purchase. I seriously doubt it will hamper the donations/sales and hopefully curb the amount of b$!~~ing. (Criticism = cool. Talking out of your ass about contract law = b!@~*ing)
I'm not sure if I really would be into this AP. Evil just isn't my bag, be it in games or not. To put it like this I felt genuinely horrible playing Knights of the Old Republic during a full Dark Side run. (Poor Mission.) Great story though. If I do play I think it will be a Lawful character which is EXTREMELY rare for me. A pragmatic individual that takes part in things not because they likes it but because the alternative would bring about utter chaos and devastation and do more long term harm than good. Order and control are there to protect people due to them being unable and unwilling to handle themselves properly. Basically they are the kinda of person that would strip you of all your personal freedoms because, "It's for your own good." They would also try to act as a buffer to try and not make things any worse then they already are. That would go for the party as well as any shenanigans Thrune's side tried to pull. Slaughter a rebelling village to the last man, woman, and child? That's a pointless waste of lives. Send them to a work camp where they will be safely keep under watch and productive to society as a whole. But if they thought for a second dropping some kinda of magic plague bomb (that would make Hiroshima look like an act of mercy by comparison) would save one more life than it would take by ending the fighting early, they'd do it in a heartbeat and not regret it. So maybe LN, maybe LE. Not really sure. As far as class, not sure yet. Something martial I think would fit the image in my head best.
magnuskn wrote: BTW, isn't "oriental" now more of a racist term, at least in the USA? To some Laowai, (老外, old outsider, slang: foreigner) yes, it is. However to quote my co-worker here in Zhangjiajie just now on the general attitude of the word in China. "Would you care if I called you Oriental? Some people think that's racist or rude." "That's stupid, just don't call me Japanese." *Rest of office laughs.* As far as my personal views as someone that lives primarily in China and Japan, it's just an antiquated term. It's much more common to use and hear Eastern/Western when talking about regional and cultural differences as a whole. As far as an AP I really like Minkai and all things Japanese, but seems a more Chinese themed AP would be the way to go considering we have already "been there, done that". HOWEVER, SE Asia and Korea have been woefully underrepresented in almost everything in fictional media, being eclipsed by Japan or China. So if there was another Tian Xia AP I would like to see some of the regions inspired by those cultures included if only for a book or two.
I had an idea like a decade ago for a campaign that I dubbed "The Cell". The group would all be newly arrested prisoners in an evil empire like country sent to a work prison located in the middle of a swamp. The prisoners were all equipped with collars that were linked in groups of four to six people with one person in the group designated as the "Key" (The character with the lowest HP). Everyone else were called "Bars" and they all formed the "Cell". If anyone in the Cell ever wandered more than say...45-60 ft for more than 2-3 rounds from the Key they went boom. If the Key died they all went boom. If everyone but the Key died then the Key goes boom. As they went through the story the Cell would experience changes in its rules from tempering to remove the collars making some parts more forgiving or harsher. It's been years so I don't remember the in game world reasoning at the time for all this but the meta game idea was to make a more tactical teamwork focused group as they had to be way more aware of positioning and protecting vulnerable party members (aka the Key).

Agreed, Crit Focus is too situational at that point. Even with Falcon bracers (GET THESE) you're getting only 10% chance to even confirm a crit anyway. Not that you shouldn't take it (your choice), but NOT before Manyshot which is a promised 100% damage increase every full attack. Also agree you can ignore Dodge. IF you want a defensive feat get Iron Will. You'll be hit more by mumbojumbo in the back rows more than you will sword and arrows ideally (not always). Plus in a game about WITCHES this goes double. It's not a necessary feat either though.

Well with Armor Expert trait, Shattered Star's campaign trait Serpent's Runner (Armor), Comfort enchantment, and Mithral you can completely negate the 6 ACP. If you can grab Mithral Hellknight plate somehow you can do it without the campaign trait. Course you have to use a little extra gold and traits but just stating it can be done for those that won't allow the Celestial Plate.
I found the magic system alright and performed well enough with it. Though I had a single Air mage and only used the basic one rune spell, but I can understand other people's frustrations. I just wish exp divided evenly among the party and not just people that hit. Created some aberrant behavior on my part. Beat the game on Old School and Hard.

You're almost guaranteed to roll a few 1s, even if you have a good fort save and cold-weather gear. Plus, the DC goes up for every previous save. Some (12) rogue archers with Inubrix arrows kicked the crap out of the AC fighters in our Shattered Star campaign. Inubrix ignores all armor and shield bonuses. Use a few if you ever want to wound him a little. Also Inubrix means the weapon does one size category smaller in damage and has the broken condition.
